@@TheShowMeFlyGuy I bought a cheap fly rod / reel combo, came with 15 yards of 1.15mm white running line and 2 tapered leaders. I am ordering a spool of flyline today, do I really need special backing for just perch and panfish here in East Texas? There are no trout rivers, etc, I won’t be saltwater fishing. I was considering 20 lb braid, which I will doubtless never see once it’s on the reel.
@@pastorharrison48 great question! While you don’t necessarily need the backing for big fish that make long runs, it DOES help to fill the spool. By that, I mean that it helps the fly line reach the edge of the spool. I would have at least a little backing just in case you hook a monster while perch fishing. I am a firm believer in the idea of “I would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.” As far as the braid idea, that’s pretty clever. I’ve never heard of anyone doing that but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong! I say go for it. I can mail you some backing if you want though. I have a spool that probably has 30-50 yards left on it and I’ll never use it.
Great question! That’s the line that connects the fly line to the reel. It helps to fill up the spool and allow a fish to run further than 90 feet which is the usual length of fly line.
Man, stumbled accidently into your channel. I was on fly tying. ;-) Got hooked by the djent, what a hammermusic. ;-) So I watched the whole video, because this set is here in Germany also avaible. A friend of mine got it and he was enthusiastic at first, in the long run, the rod was not up to the task. Its usable, at least. There is a reason for the pricetag on Hardy,Grey,Loomis,Vision, Sage or Walton Powell. ;-)
I agree that in many instances, you get what you pay for and if you pay for quality, you usually end up with quality. On the other hand, I have found a few (and I mean few) times where rods of less name notoriety and lower price perform at a similar level as the more expensive rods. You have to look hard, but they are out there.
That’s a tough call! For that amount, I think you are still getting your money’s worth but still temper your enthusiasm. The reel isn’t my favorite but I like the rod and it casts well with the fly line they include. You might look for more reviews online because I am by no means an expert!
Don, I'm Canadian and I own two setups (3/4 and 5/6wt). I paid $109cad and $119 respectively. They're both well worth it and perform flawlessly. NOTE: Make sure the package you're purchasing has the the reel that is machined, very important. The only thing is, I do agree that the rod blanks are a bit stiffer than a higher end comparable rod. That's not a slam, but rather a heads up. So if you're looking for a 3wt setup, stick with the 3wt setup, you will not be disappointed whatsoever. But from there go to a 5wt, do not chose the 4wt. Bump up two at a time - example: 3wt, 5wt, 7wt, 9wt ect.
well our forefathers did not have carbon fibre yaddie - yaddie - yaddie... they had cane and thin line and caught to eat... we are just too soft nowadays... i still fish a 1960's rod, 1950's reels and my line is 50 years old... and i get from pike to trout... glad this shows a big wallet means nothing if you know how to fish

Nice! Anyone know if they still have them?
I wish they still had some because I would have bought another. I think they were all gone by teh end of the day to be honest. Word spread quickly.
On their website you would be able to buy one.
What’s backing
Great question! That’s the line that connects the fly line to the reel. It helps to fill up the spool and allow a fish to run further than 90 feet which is the usual length of fly line.
You wouldn’t happen to know if they still sell them?
Danny Miller I think hey actually sold out later that day. Word got around really fast!
They go for a hundreds now hahaha (Amazon)
but still very good price XD
Great channel content. new subscriber here.
Thank you so much and thanks for subscribing!

35 Buks is a steel, my fishing line alone costs 50:}
I love cargo largo!
Dakota Davis me too! It’s a little odd but you can find some amazing deals!
They are $90 now

Good eyes!
$79.99 on amazon now 😢
very nice... I would buy it.....Thanks, for making the review!
Gregor Sidler thank you and it was totally worth the money. Sometimes you just stumble on a bargain!
Nice
Think this is worth 100 Canadian?
@@MichealBacon thank you 🤙
Check the Spine in china they do not know what a rod spine is
Interesting! Thanks for the tip!
@@TheShowMeFlyGuy let me know if they put the guides down the spine center ????
@@flokijhdfjkvnhsdfjkl will do!
Too funny, great video!!
Bring it out to the pacific northwest
That would be amazing! I love that place. Spent some time along the Oregon coast and fell in love with that scenery!
If you close your eyes it's Alex Jones doing a fly rod review
I hope that you only mean our voices are similar?!?! If you mean more than that, I'm terrified of myself.
@@TheShowMeFlyGuy Just the voice..lol

Me too! I thought it was a one off situation. Thanks for sharing.
@@TheShowMeFlyGuy just reached out the company is sending a replacemnt reel!
@@bodefishing8773 that’s awesome! I’ll probably do the same! Thanks for the info!
nice 😁👍
Thank you!
well our forefathers did not have carbon fibre yaddie - yaddie - yaddie... they had cane and thin line and caught to eat... we are just too soft nowadays... i still fish a 1960's rod, 1950's reels and my line is 50 years old... and i get from pike to trout... glad this shows a big wallet means nothing if you know how to fish
Those fish are dead in a week...
Yep, because someone will catch them and eat them. Trout park fish don’t live too long once they are released into the stream.
i have this rod
Do you like it?
@@TheShowMeFlyGuy haven't got to use much but I caught a small trout and sun fish on the included flies
@@TheShowMeFlyGuy got it for Christmas 2 years ago and the streams around here don't yield much
@@outdoorguy4249 that’s still pretty cool because I thought those flies were trash.
They are pretty bad as i has several fish look but not take
Dude all he did was unbox a rod and rip on old people
I think you’re missing a few other things I did unsuccessfully. Come on!
@@TheShowMeFlyGuy lolol
Maxcatch is good stuff
Agreed! I feel like their products are a great value and worth more than what you are spending! I absolutely love this rod and is one of my go-to rods when I want to throw a 3 weight now!
You're bait fishing. Youre not even testing the rod properly
Bait fishing? How so? In terms of not testing the rod properly, what would you have liked to see different?
