My favorite Henry quote (on playing shows for sparse crowds): "It doesn't matter how many people are there. I don't care if there are only two people out there. Those two people came out to see you, and it's not their fault nobody else showed up. You go out there and you give those two people the best fucking show of their lives."
That's actually a Chuck Dukowski quote, the original bassist from Black Flag. He said that to Henry early on when he joined the band and there was sparse attendance at a gig. Henry was apparently a little bummed by the lack of people there and wasn't fully into it. The Duke grabbed him and said that quote with the conviction Dukowski was known for, especially back then, which stuck with Rollins thereafter. And rightly so, it's a kick ass quote!

@@tm0675 He's not wrong. You don't have to consider "pepper spray" a verb and can use the verb "spray" before the noun "pepper spray" if you'd like. Your need to correct something so insignificant instead of being amused by the great joke makes me want to spray mace in your face.
go read Get In The Van, getting pepper sprayed was any given weeknight for him when he road dog'd it with Black Flag in the 1980s. guy has gone through some real shit.
Weird, I've seen many recent interviews of him smiling and being pleasant. I think people just assume by his rocker days of his youth and that furrow brow of his and immediately thinks "angry". Sure he has that nickname "angriest man in rock" but he's really calm cool and collected, especially in interviews of the past 10 years.
@@girlanonymous Yeah, really. I rarely see him not smiling and being pleasant. To be fair, though, I've been a fan of his spoken word performances for a long time, which is basically just stand up storytelling. He's always been a pretty charming guy.
This is the goat hot ones interview for me. Murdered the wings, murdered the questions, dropped knowledge and perspective at every turn, and brought some great laughs. Can't ask for more from a guest.
easy to say as one successful punk rocker out of millions of failed ones from the 80s and 90s that are working desk jobs right now to make ends meet. eventually you gotta grow up and carry your load unless you get lucky
@@Filthy_Goblin_44 I think he was saying that artists job was to help us with that. Life is cubicles and taxes and whatnot, let's listen to some Lady Gaga and escape from that once in a while.
Kriskazam Well Kanye behaves like a narcissistic unkind douche bag lunatic and his quotes reflect that. What did you expect? Praising yourself in public is the clear indicator of low IQ and/or Antisocial personality disorder. Google it you will see what I mean
He didn't have to deal with an interviewer who was out of his depth. Sean tends to ask questions that are meant to help you relate to the interviewee, not to test their knowledge or depth in a given topic.
Absolutely. To simply be a person in front of Rollins whom he doesn't want to eviscerate is an achievement in itself and Sean, of course, pulled it off with aplomb.
Just saw Henry speak last night 6 years after this interview and the dude is 62 and spoke intensely for 2+ hours without even stopping to take a sip of water. Legend.
Doesn't like or eat spicy food often, yet he eats every last wing without any liquids and is articulate the whole time with very little drama. Absolute SAVAGE.
Most hardcore guest to date, no liquids, stated right off the bat he doesn't do hot foods. Ate every bite, not just a tiny nibble, but scarfed that sucker like it was his last meal. Then again, from Sir Henry, would expect no less.
I met Henry last year at one of his photography shows. I expected him to be super intimidating and he was so kind and took his time with everyone that wanted to speak with him. He is a real class act.
@@joelab9222 That's around the time I first met him. A friend in Atlanta took me to a "spoken word thing". But, it was just a group of people on a front porch in Athens, GA. listening to Henry banter on about this, that and the other. And in between his planned word constructs, he was just conversational. He would just randomly ask someone a personal question and then want to know more and more about them. My daughter had just been born(so that puts it at 28 years ago) and we ended up discussing her and he dove deep in asking the 20-year-old me how I was handling it, among other things. It was like a therapy session with a really intense and really nice therapist. About 8 years later, I ran into him at an event in Dallas, TX, and as soon as we made eye contact, I saw that light go on and he immediately asked how my daughter was, and that she must be around 8. We chatted for a few minutes and it was like catching up with an old friend.
I also met him after one of the spoken word “photography” shows and he hung around, took pictures and signed stuff, not to mention conversing with everyone. Very humble, gracious guy !!!
I've seen Henry Rollins eviscerate interviewers for being unprepared or unprofessional but I think it's very clear that Sean is well prepared, so Henry relaxed a bit. I'm not 100% sure if that's the reason why, but it was cool to see a fun, goofier side of him
Lol it's cause he's a Punk Rock Hyena. The stand up he did for this is not happening was hilarious. He recounts his youth as a rebellious punk rocker in Black Flag. "and she starts driving really fast. I go like "why are you was driving so fast? There's all these people up there crossing the street." She goes like " You Pussies in Black Flag always talk about the end of the world and destruction! THE DESTRUCTION STARTS NOW! WE'RE GOING TO KILL ALL THESE FUCKING PEOPLE!" That's a snippet of a conversation he had in a car while on acid.
@ROCCO Pazzo Well what do you expect he is a punk? Who would you have him vote for? To say anyone with slightly left of center is sub human is a little retarded. Would Hillary have sucked? You bet your ass, but to say Trump is so much better would be to ignore reality. The sound park episode about a Shit Sandwich and a Giant Douche was practically prophetic.
His analogy about not losing the ambient rage but recognizing he should sharpen his skills- the scalpel versus hacking the forest bit- is amazing. Like, that's a piece of life advice everyone could use- especially since it comes from this "battle hardened" hardcore pioneer who has also fit into other aspects of popular culture without sacrificing his character or sense of self.
Not sure many people caught that, but you did. I believe most people tend to hack away on their paths because pride gets in the way. Tearing down those personal barriers allows the scalpel to move in precision, but as Henry suggests keeping the intensity or rage. NICE!!!
He's _really_ mellowed with age. I didn't care for him for most of my life (especially the spoken word "angry white dude rants about his opinions" stuff). So for nearly 40yrs, I didn't like Rollins. BUT THEN: I recently saw a clip of a show he did in Portland (Keep Talking, Pal) and I was FLOORED. Rollins was *happy* and *funny.* I ended up buying the show... It's hilarious. I'm sure he still has his moments, but I love Rollins now, and I never thought I'd say that.
I met him after a show on a speaking tour. I wouldn’t exactly call him friendly, but he is absolutely genuine in that who he is on stage is who he is in a parking lot by his tour bus at 1am. No affectations or stage persona or whatever
Another tragically underrated Hot Ones episode. I wasn't a huge Rollins fan growing up, never disliked him but wasn't a particular fan either, however I am a fan now. He comes across as quite smart and articulate! What a silver fox! I hope he has another 50+ years in him.
Yup, same here. What changed my mind about Henry was his stand-up special "Keep Talking, Pal." I always had respect for him, but found his earlier work/ talks/energy to be... exhausting, for many reasons I won't go into here as I may have already in earlier comments. Currently, I'm a HUGE Rollins fan. And I don't mean to objectify the guy but... He's aged well and definitely a "silver fox" IMHO, although a lot of my attraction towards him is based on his personality. If he looked like he does now and still behaved the way he did 30 years ago? I wouldn't find him attractive at all. I'm not saying you're objectifying him though! I could be wrong, but it sounds like we're mostly on the same page as far as what makes him attractive... it's what's inside as much as the outside.
What I love about Henry is he just seems like a smart, well-read person who could be anything, a life-coach, a CEO, a rockstar, whatever his passions, or angry, led him to. That's what makes him so captivating and I think why he's been so successful.
Unfortunately too many do. Especially those who ate to old or too rich or too powerful to risk anything in the war. Other people who will die usually don't want war.
He talks about that in his spoken word specials (many you can see on UA-cam) where he'll go to a country people warn him against, roam around the city unguarded, stick out his hand and meet people. The interview was great because Sean came prepared.
@zunka ducks The Islamic Republic of Iran is not the citizenry of Tehran, which is who he was talking about. The actual people on the street are not their government, just like the people on the street here in the US are not our government. The man went to Tehran and spoke to actual people face to face, and he was commenting about that experience. I eagerly look forward to reading your account of your visit to Tehran and your face to face conversations with the people there. It sounds like your world travels and your conversations with Iranian citizenry gave you a different impression.
Finished the wings, didn’t have so much as a sip of water. Henry Rollins is so hardcore the sauces barely tickle him. Also, extremely thoughtful, well-spoken and humble man. Suffers a tad too much of the impostor syndrome when he’s more talented than some people who have to say I’M VERY TALENTED, OK? He’s the real deal.
Henry Rollins is a bad motherfucker, no water no milk, he ate those wings without a hitch, while answering profound questions with even more profound answers. He's a great intelligent human with an awesome yet crazy past, and an insanely great attitude and disposition. Definitely a huge Henry Rollins fan!
When Henry visited Mexico for the first time, me and a group of 10 friends, all crust punks, ran in excitement when we saw him arriving at the back of the venue, he was alone, no security and he thought we were gonna jump on him, when he saw that was not the case he was a bit relieved and agreed to take pictures with us and sign autographs lol
I watch this episode every couple months to remind me that humanity is not doomed. Henry talking about his travels and the people around the world fills me with honest hope. Best episode. Beats Gordon Ramsey by miles.
Has anyone ever seen Henry Rollins this comfortable and upbeat before? I'm just sitting here with a huge smile on my face as he's laughing and chatting away.
You can find the old Dinner for Five episode with him in it on UA-cam. S04E04. Everything that came out of his mouth was really interesting and relaxed.
lebasson hah same here. I feel his image as a punk rocker can give off this kind of "fuck you" vibe but he was such a cool dude. I'd love to buy him a beer and chat the night away man
Agreed. Compared to when he was younger, he seems much happier now. He still has his rage and anger, but he uses is it to fuel him. When he was younger he did that too, but I think it kind of consumed him before. Like someone said in the comments here his temperament has changed since he's aged. He's my biggest role model for sure. He's the real deal. Such a cool dude. I GET NOTHING!!!!
I've never seen an interview of this guy before, but he just found himself a fan. It's rare to see someone so self aware and real as a public personality and I'm compelled to support that energy.
Best guest on this show so far. He's so intelligent and humble. Not to mention, he's hilarious. He still has the energy of a young person but the wisdom and prowess is incomparable. Man, what a guy.
Absolutely agree! I had a chance to meet him briefly years ago after Katrina. I'm originally from New Orleans but had been living in Texas when the hurricane hit. It totally leveled the home I grew up in and my old neighborhood was just wiped off the face of the planet. When my old next door neighbor sent me pictures of it I rented a pick-up truck and headed home. I wasn't with any particular group and some asshat had the nerve to tell me that I couldn't help clean up the area where my neighbors home used to be. She tried to explain to him that her family owned the property but her grandmother was to old to be out in the sun sifting through the wreckage trying to salvage any little piece of her home she has been in for 80 year's. I told him that we weren't looting or being in restricted areas or anything like that and what right does he have to stop someone from being on their own property assessing the damage caused. Well according to him, he was with fema and the area is a bio hazard due to the sewage and whatnot that was in the flood waters and he said that if we didn't comply that her granny would be ineligible to receive assistance from fema and possibly even her home owners insurance. I don't know how much of that sh!t was true and how much was him being a bully with a badge but we were at the coffee shop on the corner kinda just trying to wait out the guy so we could walk back over there and keep doing what we were doing and I guess we were being a bit loud about our outrage at the audacious behaviour of fema guy over there, because when this brunette in her 30s sauntered over and asked what happened, we had the attention of everyone in the café. So turned out that she was on Henry Rollins staff and they were down there helping with the clean up as well and she invited us to come hang out with them and help. Of course we said yes. We had plenty of energy to burn off at this point. So we actually wound up spending several days with the crew. Henry was filming and had appearances to make as part of his fundraising contributions so I didn't think of them as part of his crew just as some cool new friends trying to help make things easier for those who had been hit so hard. On day 3 he showed up on site and EVERY ONE was like Sir-Yes-Sir all the sudden it was like something out of a military training academy. I was kinda freaking out like, should we go, or hide or something? But shortly after that we were introduced to him and he was so nice and so attentive it's unnerving. Have you ever had someone REALLY listen to you, like really listen, not just waiting for their turn to talk. There is no one else I can compare him to. He is so utterly in the moment with everyone he talks to its fascinating to observe. The only way I can discribe it is to say that every second that he spends is deliberate. There is no small talk or polite but forced meet and greet, he was exactly where he wanted to be at all times. And his crew wasn't behaving like soldiers out of fear or duty, it was out of total respect for the professional that he is and the knowledge that he is going to give you the equal amount of respect in return. He wasn't there to get his picture taken or shake hands with the Mayor while he writes a check and says how sorry he is. Nope. He got down in the dirt with the rest of us and busted his ass doing all that he could no matter how mundane or manual the labor was. It was humbling and I aspire to be more like him every day. He really is a genuinely good guy. People can throw shade all day long but when the going gets tough, Henry grabs a shovel and says move out of the way I got this.
jaskoller if you ever get to see him live doing his spoken word ask if he is going to be signing merch afterwards. He said when it's a more intimate setting (like a house of blues and not a stadium show) he really enjoys meeting fans after the show and hearing how they have related to his writing. He likes to hear stories about how different people from all walks of life are able to take something that he wrote about how he perceived life at that moment, and turn it into something that they were able to apply to their situation and it gave them what they needed at the time... Only be said it way cooler and worded it much better lol I'm just trying to give you the jist of the story. Either he really enjoys meaningful connection with fans or he was trying to sell me a book. Lol but if he does come to a town near you, go see him. Tell him hi for me from the people who he helped in new Orleans and let him know that he made a difference and we're forever grateful to him for all of it... (That should get the ball rolling.)
Wow...... I'm very intrigued with this man. I remember enjoying his music some 20 years ago as a "pop" consumer and then nothing. I find myself amazed with how universal he is with his life choices. I'm debating if I should now listen to the book he recommended, listen to the stooges for the first time, or listen to one of his albums. As a 36yo trying to find an educated world view I am very impressed with his life motto.
Ok this one is really good and for someone who doesn't eat hot food, Henry is awesome at it. Still watching Sean absolutely destroy Gordon Ramsey is still my fav. Not question-wasie, but Gordon simply cannot handle hot food well.
Ever hear Henry tell David Lee Roth stories? He and Dave must be pretty good friends. I never listened to Black Flag back in the day, but I will, because Henry is awesome! His podcast with Rogan was cool.
In my opinion this was hands down one of the best ones they've ever done. It was an amazing interview with a fascinating character and interesting questions. I tip my hat gentlemen. Also he dealt with those wings like he was born to it.
Imagine watching Henry Rollins becoming a household name, meanwhile your dad tells you stories of when Black Flag came to town when he was working as a doorman/bouncer/crowd control at the 688 in Atlanta and Henry Rollins with long flowing hair in tiny basketball shorts told my dad “if anyone fucks with Kiera (Black Flag’s bassist at the time), YOU handle em. If anyone fucks with me, I’LL HANDLE EM” Later edit: And I’ve read several of Henry’s interviews dating back to his first interviews with fanzines back in the early 80s and he’s really engaging in down to earth if the questions are interesting but incredibly dismissive if the questions are stupid and ignorant
God dammit I love this interview. I think it went over so incredibly well with Henry because Sean has a knack for complimenting his guests while keeping them entertained and thinking. Fucking amazing episode.
In prior interviews he has said that he usually says yes to just about any kind of job or project offered to him and that he likes to challenge himself kind of as his own antagonist. Gotta respect the guy!
@Baggy Sweater I haven't read the Stay Fanatic book, but I went to one of his spoken word shows in Berlin 2 years ago which I would say was even better than any book of his. A live autobiography. One of the best days of my life.
LMAO I like how in every single mulit-million view video, about any famous successful rockstar, the first comment is always someone saying they’re underrated. You guys probably comment on Elvis videos saying he’s underrated too 😂
@Sandra Henry Rollins is one of the most famous and successful people to come out of the Hardcore Punk scene. The dude is beloved by millions of people, AND critics. How is that underrated? How much more highly rated would you like him to be?
Seems like every interview the guest has to stop and think " wow, that was actually a well researched and thought out question?!" Definitely a rare thing these days...
Henry is so fierce, but also very witty and geeky. You can see the little boy inside sometimes when he talks and certainly here too. It makes me angry when I read about how his step-father abused him.
The nicest and worst men are usually boys inside, difference is what sort of boy. Henry has always seemed to me that he hates injustice, that and passing the buck. He wants the world to be the P Funk block party it could be.
Henry Rollins? This channel is now dipping into Rock history? Fuck yeah. I love contemporary artists but so happy to see an icon of musical history (who is also still 100% relevant) on here.
Nigel MacQuillan I'm a big hot ones but huge Black Flag fan. I kinda thought people weren't going know him. I'm stoked people know this real punk rock icon
Rock/Metal died out in the 2000's but hip hop has been pretty damn interesting if you ignore the shite. I'm sure white kids will find something to be angry at (Trump) etc and spawn some decent bands in the next few years. Let's hope?
To Brandon Rodriguez - It is not hard to recognize something really incredible, If you allow yourself to see it. Saying hes a punk rock icon sells him a bit short. A human being icon is how i would put it. It's not how we are, but its what we can be. The proof right there in front of us.
This is still my favorite Hot Ones of all time. Henry Rollins is a renaissance man and a gentleman, handled the wings, the most down to Earth, and still freaking hilarious!
@@luzst7200 i can understand that a bit after looking up more info about him. He's good and bad. Not the best but not the worst. Sexism isn't right i can agree, older generations most likely have grown up experiencing or seeing it, so I can also understand how those people are used to it or seeing it as well

This! Absolutely this. He's talked about his love for free food on many occasions. I'm surprised he didn't reach across the table and start eating Sean's wings too.

Easily one of the top guests, i could hear him talk for two more hours.
I'm a big fan of Henry and, I don't know why, but it never occurred to me ONCE that he should be on Hot Ones. Scared my wife half to death when I saw his face and name on this and start shouting at the computer.
This was by FAR one of my favorite episodes. Proof positive that you can be punk rock, badass, hardcore, and STILL be intelligent and thoughtful. Did anyone else notice that Henry never swore once?
Sean, I hope you appreciate the fact that you didn’t have to interview Henry Rollins from about 20 years ago. It wouldn’t have gone this well. I promise.
@Baggy Sweater I agree. Plus he's intelligent and realizes the power and value of communication, rather than flying off the handle needlessly or constantly. Alienation eliminates cool opportunities.
It's funny that the 250 dollar designer black flag t shirt got brought up because when I heard about that last year I emailed Henry Rollins about it and his response was "A Black Flag shirt being sold for a dollar or 250 has nothing to do with me. I don't own the name, the logo or call the shots. Call Greg Ginn. If he is able to respond from his cloud of marijuana smoke, let me know what he says, on the other hand, don't bother."

Well I don't really know how to take a pic and link a picture of the email nor do I really feel obliged or care to do so since I don't feel as I need to do so. Henry Rollins is very well known to be responsive to fan emails, and really doesn't try to hide it, I mean here try it for yourself two1361@aol.com. I will send the whole email in text on here since it was really funny and in true Rollins fashion. "Liam. Thank you for your letter. It's all vengeance and defiance to me and I am not interested in being quiet or tasteful. I hope that answered your questions. Henry Rollins"
I've read articles saying things such as 'those who curse a lot are more trustworthy' and 'those who curse a lot tend to be smarter'. I'm calling BS on all that. There's a time and place to cut up, but when you have a hard time controlling what you say, you've got problems.
@@pokesprite266 I never said people who swear are untrustrworthy. Nice try making that implication though . I don't believe just because a person won't/can't control their bad language, they are any more trustworthy than a person who thinks before they speak. Sean put together one of the coolest gigs someone could have. He gets to sit with people we'd all love to sit with and share some food and stories about life. I run out of time to watch a movie at night since his videos are one of those I spend my time viewing.

@@MsFuzzipoo Yup. I find people very often lose their boundaries in their old age, so their behavior and ideas can become exaggerated. Some become super nice, others nasty. And a huge percentage become extremely nosy about other people, even if they become recluses themselves.

I love Uncle Rollins but it was disappointing that he seemed more triggered by the name Kanye West than the actual quote itself
Oh, that did test his boundaries for saying something unkind
Kriskazam
Well Kanye behaves like a narcissistic unkind douche bag lunatic and his quotes reflect that. What did you expect? Praising yourself in public is the clear indicator of low IQ and/or Antisocial personality disorder. Google it you will see what I mean
Fuck kanye west hes a bitch!
This is one of the few interviews Rollins has done where he doesn't think the interviewer is an idiot. Big ups to Sean!!!
He asked great questions!
He really did. I came for Rollins because I love old man Rollins but stayed for the varied and interesting questions. Definitely subscribing.
The one thing I've heard many guests say is"Wow that's a really good question." Sean has gotten better and better at this.
Legend.

I met Henry last year at one of his photography shows. I expected him to be super intimidating and he was so kind and took his time with everyone that wanted to speak with him. He is a real class act.
Wouldn't surprise me if he was sitting on a good size nest egg, and he just donates it to charity.
I met him about 27 years ago. He was exceedingly nice and gracious.
Lucky you. No such luck with my encounters.
I'm not 100% sure if that's the reason why, but it was cool to see a fun, goofier side of him
His questions were very interesting! He was very well prepared/knowledge/seamless and it made for an amazing interview
Sean Evans is well known to his good interview questions.
also dopamine helps
This is obviously different from some random hack interviewing him after a show or something of the sort.
Henry has lightened up over the years. He's extremely intelligent.
Ive binge watched like 50 episodes. Rollins is the only dude ive seen that ate all of his wings and did it without a drink. This guy is a legend.
Guy Fieri did the same.

He took little bitch bites and then threw the wing away.
@@268snake Tell us what you really think. Lol.
NICE!!!

Always got to admire Sean's ability to make the show about the guest
Not sure if you ever saw it, but they had an episode where the "guest" interviewed Sean. ua-cam.com/video/ZxpNXfj5No8/v-deo.html
The lost art of interviewing. Dick Cavett was able to do the same.
I'll take the "that´s a good question" coming from Henry Rollins like a big compliment and an life achieve.
The absolute and genuine joy in his face when he said "cheese popcorn" was out of this world. Happy Rollins is best Rollins
His favorite is Old Dutch (sold in my home state of Minnesota) and when he comes to Minneapolis he asks kraft services for it ❤️ It’s very sweet
Haha I commented on this not having watched the video… they actually gave some specifics! I feel cool 😭😂
@Tanner Edge Same though. Same.
Two eggs and rice? I'm doing it wrong.
This is the show in summation:
Henry: "I don't eat hot food. I can't handle it"
*proceeds to handle the wings better than anyone*
Quintessential Punk!
The only person I've seen keep their composure as well is Alton Brown. Who I think Henry would consider very "punk rock".
The dude has probably been hit in the face with with enough pepper spray for a lifetime, why would some hot wings take him down?
He didn’t touch his drink, either.
Knowing Henry, he probably appreciated the free food😆
Pain turns Henry Rollins into a happy jovial guy, who knew.

Hello 👋 I thought I would see you here
Another tragically underrated Hot Ones episode.
Underrated how...?
What I love about Henry is he just seems like a smart, well-read person who could be anything, a life-coach, a CEO, a rockstar, whatever his passions, or angry, led him to. That's what makes him so captivating and I think why he's been so successful.
but... he actually is all of that.
His remarks on Iran really hits closer to home these days and I really appreciate his perspective... Nobody wants war.
That is why I came back here. I needed some sane reasoning in this insane world.
@Cole Trickle culture war idjit. You can change a culture without slaughtering it's people.
I adore Henry Rollins. Hes very interesting, he doesnt pretend to be anything hes not, and hes very well-spoken. This was a great interview

Exact opposite of dj kaled. Came in with respect of the show, finished the wings with honor and gave great well thought out answers. Killed it!
Rollins is as tough and as genuine as it gets.
must have a warning against him... that was the perfect time to rip on Dj Khaled.
Khaled kept talking about fuckboys and not losing ever in his life, but not only did he lose during that episode, he was the biggest fuckboy of all.
Maaaaaaan the end had me cracking up! To see Rollins in a good mood at an interview is second to none.
I love how Henry listens. He’s also so smart, funny and articulate. One of my favorite episodes, with one of my favorite people.
you know what smart, funny and articulate people have in common? they listen.
Now that's punk.
At one time he was a narcissistic asshole though.
Even if that were the case, what counts is that he isn't anymore.
A couple other guests who brought it: Neil DeGrasse-Tyson, Coco Ruiz, and Russell Brand
By far the best guest on the show! Rollins engages Sean on every question 100% and has fun doing it! What a legend 13/10 man

That shit just made my night. LOL!

You can find videos on YT in his younger years just being a total prick. Rollins has aged quite well as far as his temperament goes.
Agreed. Compared to when he was younger, he seems much happier now. He still has his rage and anger, but he uses is it to fuel him. When he was younger he did that too, but I think it kind of consumed him before. Like someone said in the comments here his temperament has changed since he's aged. Henry? Humble?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Henry Rollins is an incredible man, very intelligent, very strong, and very funny. A great human. Thank you FWF.
@@HillaryMarek I've never met him but your description is exactly what I imagined him to be.
jaskoller if you ever get to see him live doing his spoken word ask if he is going to be signing merch afterwards. Lol but if he does come to a town near you, go see him. chris logan Neil Degrasse Tyson?
What a true-to-himself gentleman. He speaks with the authority of his life experience and from being well-read but has not lost that humility. Total respect. Great interview
Agreed, though some people like to hate on him like it’s cool to do or something
xwinglover - Charles Manson look alike??
I love Henry Rollins. What a combination of intensity, energy, and kindness. Beautiful.
When i saw the thumbnail, i though "oooohhh, there is going to be hell on this show" but, fuck me, i was completely surprised by Henry, awesome, awesome guest, such a humble, knowledgeable and genuine guy, and he cleaned the board without being a hot wings guy and WITHOUT DRINKING ANYTHING WHATSOEVER! Easily one of the top guests, i could hear him talk for two more hours.
listen to him on the Joe Rogan podcast, its about ~2hrs40mins
Thanks, i will check it out.
Rollins is a great dude. His spoken word events are always sold out, and he's an endless source of knowledge and experience.
Hugo Fernandes I agree!!
Listen to him and his music choices every Sunday: www.kcrw.com/music/shows/henry-rollins
Henry is cut from a different cloth. Amazing
Black cloth
@Seth Organ I suppose you are far more artistic and successful. The peasants are always bitching upward.
@Seth Organ My bad dude. In my hurry to shoot down a hater, I became one. Here's to the internet!
You guys keep coming up with guests that I never knew I wanted to see on the show but afterwards am super grateful. This was a great interview.
we need to get joe rogan on this show
holy shit that would be a trip
Dalton Riser already said he won't do it :(((((
well fuck
legitimately has nothing to do with politics what are you talking about?
I'm a big fan of Henry and, I don't know why, but it never occurred to me ONCE that he should be on Hot Ones. Scared my wife half to death when I saw his face and name on this and start shouting at the computer.
That was a great interview.
Henry always delivers some wisdom and laughs all at once.
That's what i love about him and his shows.
This was by FAR one of my favorite episodes. Proof positive that you can be punk rock, badass, hardcore, and STILL be intelligent and thoughtful. Did anyone else notice that Henry never swore once?
Bryan Lloyd even when they were eating the dirty dicks hot sauce!! "I'll let you say it." hahaha
Henry rollins says "this hurts" the same way I imagine he'd say "it's Tuesday"
Sean, I hope you appreciate the fact that you didn’t have to interview Henry Rollins from about 20 years ago. It wouldn’t have gone this well. I promise.
after watching an interview of him with Nardwuar, i agree
@Baggy Sweater I agree. Plus he's intelligent and realizes the power and value of communication, rather than flying off the handle needlessly or constantly. Alienation eliminates cool opportunities.
@@angryeel2864 "Alienation eliminates cool opportunities." Nice one.
@@vforvistian Thank you. I can relate, that's why I said that haha
Well yeah, the Muhammad Ali quote applies - Rollins has evolved.
I love this dude and how he makes me think about shit differently. Henry is a great human.
I've emailed Henry twice over the past 20 years. Always got a heartfelt response. Seen him many times live and never been disappointed. Dude is a walking advertisement for hard work and hustle.
Patrick P good ol weird al
whats his email?
Liam Huggins take a pic of the email and post a link. I'm guessing you are lying and if not that is rad.
I had a great time doing the Calvin Klein shoot day, all 75 minutes of it. I have been using that brand since I was in Black Flag. Flag are a bunch of old men who have to ply their past to pay the rent. They are taking battle hymns and turning them into entertainment. That to me is the ultimate sell out. Calvin Klein wants me to be in some ads, I have been in their ads since 1993 I think. What, I can't do things because I was in a band once? Fuck that. I do whatever comes my way that seems interesting.
A Black Flag shirt being sold for a dollar or 250 has nothing to do with me. I don't own the name, the logo or call the shots. Call Greg Ginn. If he is able to respond from his cloud of marijuana smoke, let me know what he says, on the other hand, don't bother.
Life is short. I ride the big waves on the Sea of Consequence. Calvin Klein ad at 55 years of age? Absolutely. Hopefully they run all the pictures extra large and very, very brightly lit. It's all vengeance and defiance to me and I am not interested in being quiet or tasteful. I hope that answered your questions. Henry Rollins"
Dude literally cursed only like two times.
For a punk rocker
That's **composed**
I've read articles saying things such as 'those who curse a lot are more trustworthy' and 'those who curse a lot tend to be smarter'. I'm calling BS on all that. There's a time and place to cut up, but when you have a hard time controlling what you say, you've got problems.
He's also a TV host, I guess it has to do something with that as well.
@@joemcbee That just seems very judgmental of you. There's no rational reason to think that people who swear are untrustworthy.
He's not exactly a "punk rocker" anymore, you can clearly tell that he's either somewhat or mostly moved on from that specific point of his life.
@@pokesprite266 I never said people who swear are untrustrworthy. Nice try making that implication though . I don't believe just because a person won't/can't control their bad language, they are any more trustworthy than a person who thinks before they speak.
I'd be more likely to believe that a person who doesnt control their language is easier to read because their responses would probably be more emotionally based.
Dude most people just take one bite. This guy compliments the pain and eats his way through it. What a fucking man.
I'd make it through the gauntlet....but Im only taking ONE bite. Rollins...."part animal - part machine".
Him talking about Iran in the way he did was pretty brilliant. Loved it.
Easy top10 favorite Hot Ones interviews
top 1
Easily one the best and most interesting people there is.
Very tru Steve Aoki , very tru
Henry is legit one of the coolest dudes ever.
Henry Rollins is the chicken soup for the soul of punk rock. Love him.
Henry Rollins is probably the most sincere person walking the planet today.
He is in my top 3 humans I wish I was. Although you really gotta wonder if he's legit kinda broke 😂
"I'm not frugal, I'm cheap!" I love it.
"Run. Run. Run. But keep playing, as long as you can." HR
Sean put together one of the coolest gigs someone could have. He gets to sit with people we'd all love to sit with and share some food and stories about life. I run out of time to watch a movie at night since his videos are one of those I spend my time viewing.
“Yeah, this-this hurts.” Continues to devour rest of portion.
That's a true badass
This is the first hot ones interview that I rewatched. I also loved Sean, but I think this was his best interview yet. I think he asked the most thought-provoking and meaningful questions asked on this show to date. Also I fucking love Henry. So glad that they brought him on the show.
Henry Rollins is so fun to listen to, so interesting and entertaining.
Sean is a great, great interviewer
On nearly every episode of Hot Ones, I see someone claiming that it was his best interview yet. Really shows how good he is at his job.
Love hearing anything Rollins has to say. Great musician, great mind and a way with words. I wanna pick this dude's brain
explain to me what fucking instrument he plays
Nathan Justice someone who sings and writes their own songs is a musician
he was the frontman/lead singer of one of the biggest punk bands in the whole world.... why are you so salty about him being described as a musician?
This is my favourite episode ever I swear! He's such a gem and he's so relatable and honest I love him.
Hahhaha his face was priceless when he heard that Kanye quote
Agreed. There's just nothing to say anymore about that Kanye douchebag. Same as with trump. Everything true and vile has been said.
Who knew Mr. Henry Rollins would be such a Fucking Amazing Interviewee!?! ... Hell "the Fuck" Yeah! Sean Is a Legend when it comes to being an interviewer and he's found his match in Rollins!!!
Check out his spoken word. It's fucking awesome.
cavv0667 if you haven't already you should listen to him on the Joe Rogan Experience and Ari Shaffirs Skeptic Tank
You should actually check out his other interviews man. This guy motivates the fuck out of me.
He has a good interview on JRE
No disrespect intended here, but I think that anyone who has followed Henry Rollins' career, even in passing, would know that he would give a great interview. He's intelligent, articulate and willing to say whatever he wants/needs to say to deliver his message. He is a great interview indeed!
Jokes aside Henry seems genuinely happy in this interview. Glad to see that he’s lightened up over the years.
For sure.
Well hello, he had a good interview. All good questions.
Everyone becomes mellow when they are in certain age
@@StarsWithScars Many people do mellow, but not everyone. I've known/seen enough people age only to become angrier and more stubborn in their views, so I gotta disagree with you (and I mean disagree in the politest way possible). I wish everyone mellowed with age, honestly, but some people crank it up to 11 and stay there for the rest of their lives...
@@MsFuzzipoo Yup. I find people very often lose their boundaries in their old age, so their behavior and ideas can become exaggerated. Some become super nice, others nasty. And a huge percentage become extremely nosy about other people, even if they become recluses themselves.
I love my Henry! Such a cool dude. He's so fun to listen to. Just a calm cool dude, who let's his rage out through his music. We all need an outlet.
