I'll tell ya what: Henry GETS people. He get us poor, unpopular people. And god do I love him for it. He's quirky, smart, funny, cute, and a VERY talented musician. He's a very good man.

"I'd rather be heard than paid." proves he's more about the work than the money.

Listening to this guy talk is at least half the reason I show up to work super tired. Fuck work though, I need this kind of perspective.

  • @adamatomic41

For a guy with only a high school education (as well as being a poor student), I must admit that he seems much more insightful and well spoken than many people I have met who have college degrees.

  • @karmadox

This guy is actually really well spoken. From what he mentioned about his early life - working in a fast food joint with no other skills; life's underdog - it's really inspiring to see how he's blossomed into an articulate and worldly human.

I actually did tell Henry that I downloaded some of his stuff one time, just in passing, in an email. I just wanted to tell him how much I admired him and enjoyed everything he does. He even wrote me a few lines back, saying basically "I'm just a guy, working, trying to get along like everyone else. Don't admire me too much." Which, of course, had the opposite affect. ;-)

What an extraordinary man he is ! Been a fan for 25 years. When I was a shaved headed kid, flirting with neo nazi skin racism, one of his radio interviews on JJJ Australia turned me around. I met him once years later and didn't think to tell him ( a bit star struck). He may never know, but if he reads this he will.

  • @andyjames5769
    @andyjames5769 10 років тому +96

For the last 25 years I've stuck to what he taught me and confronted racism every time I encounter it, and there's been some tense situations. Thank you Henry, for being brave and making a difference! He also put me onto bands and 'black music' for which I will be forever grateful. If there was one person in the world I could sit down with and talk to, it would be mr Rollins. Thank you, so much!

I don't know I'd always call Rollins "easy going" he's a pretty intense dude. Extremely passionate about what he stands for and does. He certainly tells people what they need to hear and never simply what they want to hear, and he never sugar coats it. He is a genuine human being.

  • @MattKoegler

I'm not a fan of punk music (but I love the idea), never really listened to the world he came up from, but man, I like to listen to him speak. I see him as a good man using his fame to promote very good ideas. I salute him for that.

I don't know if this is the greatest Henry Rollins interview. They're all great, really-approve THAT...ha ha...I really think what's great about Henry is how he has said that he's 'not a very spiritual guy'-the truth to me is, if there is a God, he she or it is smiling down on Henry more than almost anyone..his heart and his head is working together so well-and isn't that what 'God' would want from us?

I trust him more than any president I've seen in my life time. That's strange cause my favorite Flag is before him.But that's not his fault Greg Ginn seemed the one to change the music.Henry is so smart, he may not be a scholar as he pointed out but damn he has so much knowledge and he questions everything before developing opinions and I love the part about not shutting up!

I think the thing I love the most about Henry Rollins that really makes him one of my heroes is his complete honesty. He doesn't bullshit, he doesn't pretend to be something he's not. It seems like something so small, but it is really a rare trait for most humans to be that completely honest.

Possesssed666, absolutely not, there must be countless people who's lives have been affected or touched in some way by this amazing soul. I just had to take off my glasses to wipe off the wetness from the tears. Have you ever heard any artist or muso says they are fine with a kid downloading their stuff free because he understands they can't afford to buy it? Such a beautiful genuine soul ......

Having experienced a similar childhood and upbringing in a lower middle-class blue collar family, and having experienced alot of combat as a veteran, I can say with pride and certainty that I really could have used a friend like Henry growing up - and I would be glad to have him on my fire team any day. I honestly think he is truly a good person who passionately cares alot about many issues and all people in general. Although the man has little formal education, he has common sense in spades.

The first time I saw Henry Rollins was in 1981. It was one of his first Black Flag shows. He was a maniacal skinhead/punk rock guy screaming into a microphone and jumping into the audience. It still blows me away, that he has become a humanitarian and a spokes person for the down trodden. If you had told me this in 1981...I would have thought you were out of your mind. Congratulations, Henry!

Rollins is amazing. He's really smart for being just out of high school, it really says a lot about the average American that graduates from high school then just rides out the rest of their days just watching tv and letting everyone else take care of "business." I would hope that we would all strive to be at least a little bit more like Henry Rollins.
