Program Notes/Performance Notes:
“The Final Boss” is inspired by Souls-like game called “Elden Ring” by the company FromSoftware. A Soulslike (also spelled Souls-like) is a subgenre of action role-playing and action-adventure games known for high levels of difficulty and emphasis on environmental storytelling, typically in a dark fantasy setting. In the beginning of 2022, I discovered a popular trend of video game streaming by people who play video games professionally. Not knowing a lot about video games, I was curious about why just watching someone play video games was attracting such a huge audience of online spectators. I soon realized that the most popular video game streamers on the internet were people who practiced and analyzed video games with a level detail that is comparable to what my euphonium practice regimen has been for over two decades. As a professional in a very niche career field, I appreciated and related to people doing video games as a profession.
I saw an increasing number of video game stream recommendations being recommended to me by on UA-cam, and soon after I discovered that two of the most popular video games of 2022, “Sekiro” and “Elden Ring,” were both famous for their high level of quality and detail and infamous for the level of complexity and difficulty that caused many casual video game players to give up after only a short time playing.
Soon after, I decided to try these games out myself just to comprehend how truly complex they were. in terms of managing the intricacies of the controller, the battle mechanics, timing, and clues for storyline progression, I soon learned the widespread perception was appropriate; and within few hours I found myself unable to progress any further and was forced to seek help in the form of online walkthrough tutorials-just to understand the games a little better.
As I was searching for information, I found out that most of the top tier video game players would practice many hours on daily basis to, in a sense, make the video game play look as smooth and easy as possible while livestreaming. And this took me back to my teenage years, when I was learning techniques such as double- and triple-tonguing from Arban “Complete Conservatory Method for Cornet,” complex fingering patterns and slurs from Clarke “Technical Studies,” and how much time and frustration was involved into practicing them to make it sound effortless. I was also reminded of how rewarding it was when I achieved relative mastery of a technique.
And so, inspired by the month-long journeys necessary for people to complete the game “Elden Ring,” I decided to write an extremely technically complex solo for euphonium to mimic the learning curve required to beat one of the most difficult challenges in the game-“The Final Boss.”
This would be a solo that required many hours of practice, and just like in the game itself, would necessitate deviation from the piece (the “main storyline”) to practice specific techniques needed to progress further in the music.
“The Final Boss” involves some of the fastest passages, trickiest intervals and most complex range in the euphonium repertoire while maintaining minimalist harmonic patterns and somewhat predictable rhythmical elements-perhaps similar to what you would see from exercises in method books.

I like how it’s actually a decent piece of music (amazing actually) and not just hard for the sake of hard.
That's exactly what I had in mind writing it. Glad you enjoyed it friend!
well said
That is mad skill.
You should totally do more of these rock euph solos! Great job
Thanks Domrow, really would love to dome more of this stuff. Make sure to share this video with your friends. These type of pieces are much harder to produce so getting good views and audience response is crucial for us in order to do more projects like this :)
Great
My euphonium has mostly sat in its case since I stopped playing 14 years ago. This makes me want to pull it out, unstick the valves, and get good again
2:47 “You died.” 😂💀
i love how it says download and play along even though literally nobody else on the planet could play this
But you can surely have more fun practicing it and developing technique than a method book :D Maybe next I'll put DOWNLOAD & DON'T PLAY ALONG? :D
Your tone and range is something I strive for everyday amazing playing 👏🏼
Glad you enjoyed it Jacob!
@@Matonizzi had a great time playing this solo on trumpet! I appreciate you also putting the treble clef version of the song below. Even tho it is my first year of playing the trumpet, I feel like the high D/F was pretty easy at the end. And I obviously did not play the fast parts bc i am still a beginner 😂😂
Terrific, absolutely brilliant! You make it sound effortless, even in a less than obvious key. Deep respect.
Thank you John!

of 👹hell👹🤘
Thank you Michael!
It sounds amazing
Thank you!
I just can't believe your ability. I've been playing the euphonium since I was 7 years old, but I'm still a beginner. I just wish that one day I could have at least a tenth of your mad articulation, tone and sound ability. Thanks for the inspiration and tutorials you have on your channel. It really helps a lot!
Thank you for kind words friend!
Practice practice practice, over and over and over and when you tired over again. 😅
3:01 is just straight heat
Fantastic!
(The costume would have seemed more scary if it hadn't looked like it was recently ironed)
The storytelling with the piece is great, along with the backstory of how you composed it. Great job!
Thank you very much William!
As someone who plays the euphonium, that is way beyond what I could ever play. The fact that it also sounded really good is a sign of your talent. Amazing job man!
Thank you very much!
It's just impossible for me to stop listening this piece. Just wonderful, great job
Thank you John!
I looked over at my euphonium and cried
ну и в очередной раз послушаешь, вдохновишься красотой звука, техникой... возьмёшь инструмент... а из раструба доносится "лучше бы не брал". спасибо, о мастер!
Thank you friend!
insane shredding on a euphonium
Thank you!
It sounds like it takes inspiration from the bluecoats 2016 performance. I love it🥰
As someone who plays a similar instrument, (I play trombone) This is confusingly incredible... I don’t see how this is possible to put together as well as you have...
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it friend :) (I play and teach trombone too btw ;) )
that is some crazy breath control at the end!
Thank you!
This is so fucking badass, I gotta buy a euphonium and start playing again
Your talent is so amazing. I loved this and was so moved by the whole thing. The beat of the background and your playing of the range of the song. Thank you. I will listen to this often and think about how absolutely hard it is to play.
Thank you very much Sandra and for your continuous support friend!
Awesome. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Well done! Inspiring.
Thank you Dennis!
So metal. Absolutely amazing
Just as if I thought euphonium pieces couldn't get any more difficult, you somehow manage to do just that. Absolutely amazing.
Thank you!
Loving this!
Thank you nyancs!
Unbelievably amazing!
Thank you David!
Man! That was crazy! WoW! Incredible performance!
Thank you Bill!

bro sounds majestic
Thank you!
Super cool stylization and playing characteristics in each section! Of course insane flexibility, finger speed, range, etc. Awesome performance!
im amazed he can play this in such a difficult key signature
Much appreciated!
Outside of fingers, the pitches are actually comfortable in this key centering wise. But yeah :D
Love this song/ played near flawlessly and thank you-- for curling your fingers while playing the euphonium valves although I am curious if this would be more sound correct with 4 valves?
He has 4 valves
Great
Thank you Irvin!
I play the euphonium and i am 13 years old i was completely shocked after watching and listening to the music
You’re the best.
It's very cool that you are from space💯❤️
Thank you!
Euphos are so underrated anyways wonderful job keep it up!!
Yes they are. Thank you Madison!
YOUR TONE IS AMAZING I GOT SO MUCH BETTER BY TRYING TO SOUND LIKE YOU I EVEN WENT TO REIGION BAND ADUTIONS

Glad you enjoyed it!
The guitar sweet seems sharp.
Which bit?
Hi sir you played like 🔥🔥🔥. I am beginner can you please tel mi witch mouthpice best for mi
Nice.
Thank you!
I’m very impressed by your tone quality but even more so by the sheer speed of your note changing how long did it take you to develope that?
Thank you. I've been playing almost 25 years now :)
@@Matonizz that’s impressive props to you
The marching band I taught last year used those amazon monk outfits lmao
Nice! :D Is there a video of it by any chance? That was the only thing that I could find resembling Elden Ring that was not covering my embouchure and didn't cost 10k :D
Hi ,dude i am from India nearly for about ten years I have played euphonium in my school band.I am so much happy to hear my instrument noisei know how difficult tonguing is while playing a song excellent tonguing bro it's fascinating.love you from India ..
Thank you and much love friend!
@@Matonizz would you have any tips for us euphonium players that are still playing 3.5 grade songs?
Ya know I though at first “I can play this so this would probably be fun to try” then I saw the rest of the song and I’m in disbelief
Hope you enjoyed the piece :)
Damn Son!!
Thank you!
gawddammm
Thanks James!
When my studio teacher asks who my favorite players are, it’s always been Demondrae and Matonizz. This is why
Very flattering Jarod, thanks a lot for kind words!
This gives off scv Babylon vibes.
hey, I know you've been doing more covers for songs that have been made, but I was wondering if you could do one of those educational videos on maximizing resonance on the horn. I was practicing Vendetta Variations and listened back to compare to you and realized that I didn't sound as full as you yet my tone was clear and open. I asked my band director, as I'm in highschool, but his only response was to be more relaxed and that trick didn't give me the results. Any tips?
Hi Stephen, there will be few more educational videos coming in next few weeks. I'll make sure to address your question.
@@Matonizz thanks
@@stephenrivera4706 vendetta variations is truly a banger
At first I thought he was doing a Carolina Crown inferno solo cover video 😭
Just looked it up :D I can see where you're coming from :D
“Mooooo”
Try and play some of the fast pieces of a piece called audivi media nocte (realy hard brassband piece)
Oooh, never heard of it. Will definitely check it out :)
I can never get my euphonium this clean
It takes time, I've been playing for almost 25 years now :)
eu tbm tenho um euphonium
No place for sticky valves!😀
No there isn't, not on this one at least :D
Jesus! A high E above two staffs...that's crazy impressive.
Thank you Leo!
👌👌👌👌👌👌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you!
cool i play euponium
🎷
Wow.
Thank you Jennifer!
Compartido
Thank you friend!
Matonizz is the final boss euphonium players must go through! Lol
Maybe I should launch a video game? :D
@@Matonizz haha, I've never thought of anything like that! There may be a niche for it!
@@ivanhouston12 I'm hoping :D
You've probably never heard of euphonium masters Howard Johnson
Kwanni Zawandi or the often over looked videos of Freddie Hubbard or Dr Donald Byrd playing incredible ridiculous hard bop lines super fast with articulation and accuracy
You have excellent tone and Great articulation
Good job. Check out these euphonium masters
Thank you very much Richard, I will surely look them up!
is there a version without the tuba?
You mean the backing tracks without the solo part?
@@Matonizz yes!
1:58 is the best part to me 😅
The only reason I clicked on this video is because it’s a euphonium… and I play it in my band
Well hope you enjoyed it :)
this needs to be in the next DOOM game
I’d love to play this but the only problem is I play trombone and I think those sextuplets are a bit too difficult for me. Awesome piece though, well done
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Every time there's a part I could play, lip slurs and insanely fast tounging come along
Thus "The Final Boss" :D
Extremely well played.
good to solid piece
but... and yes it has a but
your king's gambit was i another league completely. this one lacked stuff i instantly wanted to rehear.
if kings was a 10/10 then this one is mayby a 7/10
Thank you and fair enough. Appreciate your feedback friend!
Double it and give it to the next person
