    Happy Monday Friends! We have a Brand New Euphonium Solo with Brass Band Version of "The King's Gambit" arranged for you by Anneke Kamerman today. This piece was commissioned by Fabien Décaillet as a gift for his newborn son, Alexis. "The King's Gambit" is aimed at including elements of modern progressive style alongside a more standard virtuosic euphonium style commonly featured in traditional euphonium repertoire. The compositional style focuses on complex and highly syncopated rhythmical grooves with a minimalist harmonic style, found in modern-day rock and pop music. The piece demonstrates extreme range, finger dexterity, coordination of multiple-tonguing techniques, flexibility, and breath control which are normally expected in academic repertoire.

    The game (and the piece) is divided into three major sections which correlate to stages and specific moves in a chess match.
    1) Opening: 1.e4 e5 2.f4...
    2) Middlegame, including Queen Sacrifice (cadenza section)
    3) Endgame
    The overarching design of the piece is shown in the interplay between the euphonium and the ensemble. In the early stages of the piece (the game), the soloist and the band trade blows, but everything shifts at the Queen Sacrifice with the euphonium taking dominance in the game. The Endgame plays out the euphonium’s attaining a position so strong that Checkmate# is inevitable.

    This is so impressive! Such a great solo! You are a master, or better to say a god on this instrument!
    The only thing I would like to mention, I would have the Euphonium in the mix something like 3dB to 6dB louder. The drums could be -3dB.
    And regarding the score: is the Euphonium tuned in Bb? Because the score seems to be in Cm, but the actual key is Bb. I am playing the trumpet and the flugelhorn and both are tuned in Bb.

    • @Matonizz
      @Matonizz  Рік тому +1

      Thank you Artin for kind words and your feedback. Euphonium reads either Bb Treble clef or Concert Pitch Bass clef, with BC being more common which is the reason for part in score being concert pitch. However, the parts come in both TC and BC :)

    Hey Drew and all, you did it once again. Loved how the brass band "fought back" in the duel between to the two sides. Quick question> how many other instruments actually were being played? =) Great music, guys! My hat's off to you!

      Not sure exactly what you mean with this question, but in general, if you see it there above, it's on the recording. Eb soprano, 2 to 4 solos (depending on divisis), repieno, 2nd & 3rd 2 to 4 (depending), flugel, 3 horns, 3 trombones, 1 to 2 baritones, 1 to 2 euphs, 2 tubas, percussion. To save time, we only recorded lines that were needed, with minimal doubling. (Sorry so slow to respond. I don't get notifications on this channel, and Algirdas gets a billion comments a day so neither of us saw this...I only noticed it by chance because I randomly navigated to this video and saw my name in the comments.)
