Also, damn quick study as in USA a lawyer qualifies in the individual state and even though some exceptions or exemptions might be made, to practice in another state they almost have to go to law school all over again. And that is with US law, not another planets'. For W to go to an alien planet with a different system and, even though we aren't shown it taking very long ( John's not even sporting a five o'clock shadow!) nailing down the system enough to win the case

I think that's just Ronon. He never had patience for rules or procedures, always took the direct approach to solving problems. He's also something of a hothead. Then again, from what they showed us of other Sateedans, they all seemed to trend that way.

Quite literally being on the run for years eroded a lot of his social skills. But yes it is a fair point that Sateda was comperable to post-WWII Earth based on what we've seen in the flashbacks, so he'd be more familiar with that degree of social culture.

Exactly. He was the harshest critic of the Atlantis expedition because he knew how important it was to keep this a Civilian/Scientific led expidition, because he knew Atlantis being a complete military operation would also invite the politics in. And as we know from SG-1, when that happens things tend to get messy.
So while he seemed like the ultimate bureaucrat and completly uptight, his intentions were entirely noble and understandable. And that's what makes his character great. He seems like a typical political ambitious desk jockey at first, but then you get to know him better and realize that he in fact has no personal agenda or desire to just climb ranks, he just wants to keep the ship afloat and do his Job

In SG1 it was so easy to despise Woolsey. In Atlantis, I started out hating him, but by the end of the series, I could not imagine anyone else in command. Yeah, he sort of had a moral center that started to manifest in his later SG1 appearances, but the writers clearly had an agenda to make him someone the audience would detest. Then they had the bright idea to make him a hero... more or less... And they pulled it off.
Wier played god way too much. Carter was okay, but the SG1 band could only be apart for so long. Woolsey... Well... He was the fine line that needed to be crossed. :D

What I always liked about Stargate was that the episodes had an end, there was only very rarely a cliffhanger. Compare that to The Walking Dead... where every single episode is a cliffhanger that won't be answered until like 6 episodes later... it's just infuriating. Also the characters were good. Of course they had a lot of plot armor and there were some stereotypes like the muscular alien guy or the nerdy scientist, but look at how women are portrayed. Teyla, Sam, Weir, those are strong and good woman characters. Compare that to what people nowadays call a "strong woman" and you see quite a difference. Nobody had to color Sam's hair blue and made her hate men to make her acceptable for the viewers. (I hope I could somehow tell you what I mean without being too confusing, English isn't my first language.

I believe I read somewhere that cigar tobacco is not processed the way cigarette is, less chemicals for fertilizing and curing and none for rolling, so perhaps not so bad, especially with no added nicotine. Cannot think of any using cigars for a smoking study.

Sadly no, when put into a 'jump feet first or die anyway' situation woolsey always hesitated and his character was always that a shrewd slimey guy, he could talk the talk but not walk the walk.
Which is why Wier was in charge, she walked the walk (that is to say if put in a 'do something or die' situation she actually chose to do something rather then be paralysed by indecision like woolsey was) and she didnt talk the talk, she told you to sit down shut up and do as your told.

Any good lawyer knows that you can be an outstanding lawyer defending an innocent person and lose. And you better have a plan for that.
Also, one better knows the local law, which might work differently. No sacred universal legal principles.
He IS a good lawyer though if he quickly picked up that bribery is a feasible avenue. Very open-minded and goal-oriented. Devotion! Commitment! (Well, also personal motivation if you're defending yourself, too.)
