    / discord Welcome to my channel everyone,
    Good evening , Xcom 2 is finally here! We will push fighting this Alien threat for quite a while. I plan on playing through to the end of a normal game to learn for myself how the game works. After normal we move to a higher difficulty and play until we can finish an ironman game.
    With the community mods available this will extend how many different runs we accomplish. I will take on some of the challenging mods and will also be coming back every so often for the DLC's.
    Now i am debating with myself how much i can accomplish before either DS3 or the Division releases, those will be some of my future titles on my channel. but considering i now have 400 hours into Enemy within, Xcom 2 will probably get a similar treatment.
    As always my goal is to learn enough to share tips that will help others clear this game, considering that only 27% of players had finished Enemy within on steam. This time we need to up those odds, so that others can appreciate the game as it should be. This game gets better the more you play it.
    Don't forget to like and subscribe, i am very active with uploading videos. I live stream a minimum of 5 nights a week and once i am well versed in a game i start to release guides that will help you with some of these difficult games.
    Come join us, if we can recruit more of you in our army, we will make room if we have too. We now have 14 viewers among our ranks.

      No worries, i did not find the time to complete Legend Ironman yet and the division releases tonight! so i will be playing the division until Dark Souls 3 comes out next month. I don't think i have much else on my radar so i might just juggle those 3 games for a while.
      Glad you enjoyed the video, what kind of short stories do you write ? Does this make you a writer by trade ?

      It would be great to see your Legendary playthrough with victories and bitter defeats (as it supposed to be). I don’t want to name anyone but I suspect that some youtubers’ Ironman mode isn’t real, unless they are exceptionally lucky.
      And the second question... no, just practicing, since I work with animation it’s useful to solve creative problems.

      It had occured to me that some posted faked footage, which is why i leave my live stream or uncut content up and put some form of highlight when i can. No point in claiming somehting you can't accomplish.
      Interesting work, animation is pretty facinating, i am not creative enough to do something like that. I will need to get creative though i am returning to college for interactive media design either this year or the next. I need a carreer change lol.

    The casualty of the panicked male soldier getting stunlanced to death was so cinematic for some reason. The stun lancer also looked like he was running very urgently too, kind of like "oh no you don't !" last minute attack. I'm king of imagining the other operative looking down from the ship like "come on get to evac!", and then getting devastated by watching that stun lancer run up to him last second and tase him.

      @@RoninJeremy I think part of what made it feel so cinematic was the fact that the stun lancer took some time to arrive on the scene, kind of like in a movie where the dramatic music starts stepping in, the characters take one last parting look before the baddie delivers the killing blow, or killing shock in this situation. Also don't blame yourself for evaccing immediately, since your other guy was panicked so staying next to him could've resulted in him firing on your remaining guy.

    Destroying stairs might be a good strategy. That way, non teleporting aliens will have to either take fall damage(not sure if they can do that intentionally), or stay on the top from where they might not be able to attack xcom soldiers.

    The first time I played Ironman was the original (since the reboot) for the PS3 (It might have been Enemy Unknown), the aliens downed our ship/headquarters and my team went out to defend it but most soldiers where so badly hurt that it didnt go so well, I also recall several generic Xcom "guards" (with blue suits and caps they could only move and fire light guns) joined us just to make up the difference or something. It ended in a massacre. Surprisingly the game asked me if I wanted to retry the stage after every last soldier ended up dead (despite the ironman mode) but I figured it was literally impossible to overcome such odds (like hordes of Mutons etc) and pulled the plug on that run, It was so awesome that I have always played ironman since (and gotten the shit beat out of me in all games, including the classics like X-Com Apocalypse etc)
    Seriously I believe that those that have not played all the way to the end at least once, are losing out on something special, nothing more immersive that literally going down with the ship fighting for your planet all the way to the last bitter breath, I seriously wish I could re-live this particular experience.
    Huge kudos for posting your progress onwards becoming a great Xcom player, you brave brave man.

    • @leessoon
      @leessoon 7 років тому

      I see what you mean, but you should check your soldiers stats and equip a mindshield on the person with the lowest will stat to avoid panic or psi abilities. Not only can it save you from a mind control, disorient, and even stun. Since all psi abilities are practically useless against a mindshield, you can equip a mindshield on a ranger or a heavy, and make them the frontline against an sectoid. Since sectoids love showing off their psi abilities, you can take advantage of this and abuse the psi immunity and make the sectoid lose a turn.

    • @RoninJeremy
      @RoninJeremy  7 років тому +1

      but instead of protecting 1 person from a psi ability id rather have a flash bang and protect the whole group, it also works on sword users, grenade users too. plus lowers their aim.I believe burning does something similar.
      Heck Mimic beacon is also way less situational than a mind shield. But that's what's great about tactical games, more than one way to tackle them.

  • @skynet091287
    @skynet091287 7 років тому +12

    This is WAY too late for the video, but it still needs saying. You should NEVER end a turn with an overwatch trap when concieled! You have no control over targets, and if some enemies survive, they basicly get a free turn against you. The better choice is to get close, drop something that deals damage to the whole group, or something that is very likely to kill in one shot as your opening... By being as close as possible when you start, you almost guarantee that you get some easy flanks, as the AI nearly always take cover from the unity that did the initial damage.
    Overwatch traps should only be used if you have lost concielment on your squad. This can help you too, as having a Ranger stay conceiled and scout targets for a good Sharpshooter to lure them into a trap using squadsight.
    I usually open like this whenever possible: Scout a group with my still concieled Ranger, to see if they move. if they don't, get the rest of the troops as close as i dare to not activate. Open with a nearly guaranteed shot with my Sharpshooter, and then mop up the rest with easy flanks and abilities. It still works if they patrol, as you just put the Sharpshooter on Longwatch, and activate on their turn instead.
    But when all is set and done, just use each death/injury as a learning experience, and adapt in a way that suit your own playstyle...

    • @RoninJeremy
      @RoninJeremy  7 років тому

      skynet091287 I entirely agree with you, i never use overwatch pulls, well at least anymore. the video is quite old.
      i Might overwatch a few soldiers but you really want to hit the first pod hard. one thing that really helps with that strategy is the true concealment mod. without it you are kinda forced to rush and can't really setup for great openings.
      thanks for the comment, really appreciate the feedback.

    • @skynet091287
      @skynet091287 7 років тому

      I always enjoy a good XCOM death montage, and if anything, XCOM is one of the purest "learn by doing" games there is. No one strategy is the best, and even the approach i mentioned can get you majorly screwed over if you get unlucky.
      In regards to mods, i can't really use them, as i play on PS4, so i've gotten used to the timers by now... I'm happy to hear that the new War of the Chosen expansion allows you to double the turn timers though, even if it would be better if you could eliminate them all together. I understand why they don't let you do that, as the game would get the same feel as Enemy Unknown, where as long as you took everything nice and slow, you basicly couldn't lose a mission if you knew what you were doing...

    • @RoninJeremy
      @RoninJeremy  7 років тому

      You are totally right there about not having 1 way to play. That kinda sucks that PS4 doesn't get mods, the long war is a great mod. Even with so many hours in I make mistakes constantly. Just last night I relied on a rocket that I thought would do more damage on a pull and was left fighting 2 pods of 8 at the same time...
      It was a bloodbath but luckily only 1 death, not a bad price to pay for my mistake, just sucks since most of my units are from subscribers.
      I can't wait for war of the chosen next month IIRC, going to try an unmoved play though. Its been a while since I've played unmodded. The new Classes might be a bit too powerful but that may depend on the enemies too.

  • @WoWisdeadtome
    @WoWisdeadtome 3 роки тому +3

    Is this using Long War? Honestly I can't even remember what the base game is like.
    XCOM 2 is almost universally worse than XCOM for one primary reason...strict time limits. Particularly with Long War installed it is vital to use defensive options. Smoke grenades, flash bangs, suppression, and even just hunker down make a really big difference. Use an assault to reveal pods (keep him concealed if you can) and use him to activate those pods when he's not concealed. A sniper dropping one enemy with squadsight is always the best way to start an engagement, assuming you can't hit them all with a rocket or something. Hunker down can be a better option than overwatch in some situations (nearly always for an assault) because dead soldiers deal zero damage and either the shotgun or sword are quite potent at ending encounters once the pod is worn down. If you find a soldier in a bad spot it is often better to just keep your head down and let the rest of the squad cover you by going on overwatch and/or throwing smoke or flash bangs than it is to try and get out of there, you're often most vulnerable while moving. DO NOT run into the same spot to help them or have that isolated soldier run back to the squad. That's how you get your cover blown by grenades and multiple squad members either wounded or killed. Squads should run with an assault on point and a sniper bringing up the rear with the rest of the squad in a loose pack.
    Really, do not underestimate the value of suppression, it really hurts a dangerous enemy's aim and often holds them in place to be outmaneuvered. Gunners in a strong position may well be used to reload and suppress again for multiple turns, which is fine, as their aim isn't fantastic anyway. Suppression also removes overwatch allowing your squad to get in if you've determined it's time to push to finish them off. If the alien does move you still get an overwatch shot at the cost of a LOT of ammo. Expanded magazines are vital for gunners. Disorienting a sectoid will cause it to lose control of anything it has mind controlled, so both animated dead and mind control will end if you flash bang them.

    • @RoninJeremy
      @RoninJeremy  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment, I am pretty sure this was classic not LW. You have very good points The only issue I really struggle with, at least now, is the limited range you have to be in since most maps are really small and often have many enemies. Often moving up even 1 wrong tile creates multiple pods to spawn.
      I agree with you about the timer in Xcom 2 but I usually mod it out to at least start once you are discovered. Sure it makes the game easier but in the end, a game should be fun right?

If you spread people out well enough, get height advantages, and start the assault with an aoe, it shreds any Armour, and you can immediately take actions to flank and shoot vs waiting for aliens to shoot you then kill them. Overwatch is blatantly useless in any situation unless you know something is in cover and will move out of it. Took me a lot of soldiers to figure that out

However, overwatch is not always reliable, especially on Legend.

      All depends on the path of research you choose, looking at the dates of the upload id love to have more information for you but it's also likely it was my first run. It's over a year ago. Thanks for the comment, you are added to the DOS 2 draw.

    • @Mortjep9531
      @Mortjep9531 7 років тому

      neat. i don't know what DOS 2 Draw youa re referring to but i'd gladly participate.
      about the gear etc. i might just be used to base management from other strategy games, but i found myself to get overgeared pretty quickly in the midgame to the point of steamrolling every enemy. that has slowed down in the lategame. i've only destroyed 1 facility so far and i already have endgame gear and face what's seamingly endgame enemies.
      about your dislike to like ratio being slightly high. it might have to do with the fact that you are doing a voiceover while you are showing stream highlights. most people expect the live reaction when they see a facecam, but it becomes aparent that it's voiceover due to the quite slow reactions to the action and lack of syncronization wiht the facecam.
      it's no means a bad idea to do things this way, you just need to refine it more and prepare more (try not to have delayed reactions to what's happening ingame etc.). that is if you haven't already "fixed" this since this is a slightly old video :)

    • @RoninJeremy
      @RoninJeremy  7 років тому

      Mortjep9531 thanks for the feedback . DOS 2 is divinity original sin 2 , in case you didn't know. Great tactical rpg.
      The reactions were live since it was a stream highlight and then voice over. Tbh ive mainly only been streaming the past little while, busy with school so i really toned down the upload schedule.

    • @Mortjep9531
      @Mortjep9531 7 років тому

      it still gets pretty confusing to discern whether it's fully live or voiceover. sounds and feels odd. if you have footage from a stream then simply use the streams reaction. it's so much more geniune and adds charector. anyone can do a voice over but the moments that really define you as a streamer/youtuber are the utmost live reactions, such as the panic at 4:20
      your cam reaction is much more exciting and interesting than the voiceover you are doing. also when you are doing non-scripted voiceover as in this video it really doesn't work well when you explain hits that where crits or explain things very delayed from the action.
      as i said voiceover can work, but in this video it really doesn't work optimal. But i did enjoy it.

      Yeah it is somethign that the game doesn't tell you about in detail. Thats what makes the game hard is figuring out the mechanics, after you figure them out the game is very manageable. Maaybe less so on legendary lol.
