A great Kiwi band . . . Enz started life in Te Awamutu here in NZ . A town only 1/2 hour drive from me . . . Great to see them on the channel . They were known at the time for crazy hair cuts and awesome stage costumes . . . Designed AND stiched by Noel Crombie the percussionist . . Well worth a deep dive . Till next time take care Bye from NZ👋🇳🇿👍twa
Noel Crombie on drums joined the band at a gig one night by walking onto the stage and playing the spoons. He just kept turning up so eventually became part of the group doing odd ball percussion as well as designing the weird outfits they wore.
Saeed, that's Neil Finn's brother Tim Finn on lead acoustic guitar with the longer cool gray hair. They formed Split Enz together and were in Crowded House on and off several times as Tim also pursued his own solo career. Tim Finn is an accomplished singer songwriter himself. Neil and Tim even released a couple of wonderful albums together as The Finn Brothers. I saw Tim Finn open for The 10,000 Maniacs in July of 1989 here in Milwaukee. Awesome show!
They come from my hometown Te Awamutu. They lived on Teasdale st. My brother worked for their father as an accountant. I'd watch Neil Finn play the piano at Te Awamutu College assembly's around 1973-74.
Seriously loved in Australia too, I was quite young growing up with their early music and became a bigger fan later - this song has grown to be absolute top class and this version is stunning. Nice intro to your channel.
Yep being a proud Kiwi, this band has so much musical talent, you must listen to Alistair Riddell, he played in the late 70's and still now, he is New Zealands David Bowie!
Love Neil's little giggle at 5:20 when Eddie goes off on a bit of keyboard embellishment! Also, you should check out some of the songs Neil and his brother Tim (he of the fantastic hair and guitar) sing together. Their voices blend together so beautifully. My picks would be It's Only Natural, or Weather With You, from Crowded House's Woodface album.
This song has an "I'm not in love (by 10cc)" vibe, but hey, it's an absolute classic. It's a perfect love song, and the band gives a wonderful performance.
Saeed..if you remember, I commented previously that I was going to see Crowded House tonight, and Neil played this track tonight. It was the first song he wrote for Split Enz and it was their first number 1.
Good reaction to a song that I'd never heard before. It reminded me of a song by Squeeze called Tempted, think you'd like Squeeze as their music & lyrics are very well constructed, perhaps check out "Labelled With Love".
I'm not familiar with this band although I'm very familiar with Crowded House. He sounds the same..His voice still resonates with me. Even in this song that will grow on people like me who don't know the song or this particular group, but do know Crowded House. Thank you, Saeed for ontroducing this to me. Much love to you and your family ❤️ 🫂
@@SaeedReacts. Yeah, early Split End is hard to categorise... it's like punk vaudeville. Like just throw on the track "That was my mistake" - it's insane that that got air play. ;) One of their greatest tracks in my opinion is Dirty Creature, but for that more straight down the line rock/punk - I See Red is a very popular one of theirs. On the album Message to My Girl comes from - "Bullet Brain and Cactus Head" features a piano solo that feels like it dropped out of a comedy western - it's one of the best piano solos I've heard on a pop track.
One of the most beautiful love songs ever.

Thanks for listening to it with me, Debbie! Much love to you and your family ❤️🫂
You need to check out the original, his voice is so much better
Split Enz was so much better than Crowded House.
Crowded House had maybe 3 good songs. Split Enz greatest hits is a Double Album.
Yesssss!
No commentary though, cause other people love to be douchebags and try to make you sound like an idiot. But great band!
Thanks for watching!
Oh, early split enz is so not laid back!
Hope to check out some more songs!
