Oh my goodness! That is absolutely unbelievable! You did amazing work and is a testament to what someone can do when they disagree with conventional wisdom and put their mind, heart and soul into something and make something amazing out of nothing. Reminds me of that old saying about "making a silk purse out of a sow's ear" Not to sound condescending, but it makes me proud that you would take the time to make a treasure out of someone else's trash. Great video Victor, looking even more forward to you future content! I did see the end, but you ended the video before I could see you land a fish.
A phenomenal job you did restoring that old reel that was at the bottom of the lake. Although you could not find an anti-reverse device for it, it still works very smoothly. Great work.
I would be proud too. You did an excellent job. Bet it works better than when it was new. When you catch a PB with this reel, you will have a fishing story to tell.
That's a fun project from start to finish. The new bearings and drag sure make it worth while. I've hauled up a couple of lost reels over the years, but unfortunately they weren't in great shape at all, junk reels to begin with before they fell into the water
Thank you, this is Ryobi rebranded for Bass Pro Shop. Mikro lite elite is Ryobi to very smooth. Most of the Bass pro shop spinning rells are Daiwa. Thank you again very interesting video.
i don't think they are rebranded Ryobi even though it is possible it is almost the same reel. Ryobi doesn't have a factory any more and they just order reels from chinese catalogue and then pick some colors and handle and logo. Then it is possible for Bass Pro to order from the same catalogue. However this reel is Korean, not chinese, judging by the antireverse bearing.. so it is very confusing
I surprised to learn that there was no gasket between the two halves of the body. I thought that would be necessary to prevent water penetration of the interior.
what are you talking about? Give me time stamp. Where did u see anything to figure? The cylinders of that bearing were completely disintegrated from corrosion, they were just rust dust. Even the plastic frame of the ARB had disintegrated for some reason, even though it is plastic
It looked like you were going to replace the open roller bearings with a sealed bearing but couldn't find one of those to fit. Perhaps you were trying to go that route because the plastic had disintegrated. (?) @@ifishcatfish
The plastic was there, but the little steel cylinders of the bearing had turned into rust. I have only daiwa and shimano parts but none of them fit. One almost fit but was really tight..
Hey! I've found out huge value from your reviews. Do you atm have recommendations on great reels (2500-3000) in sub 100 category? ALL of my fishing gear (even pliers and cheap sentimental shit from my childhood) got stolen by some narcs last weekend, and I'm trying to figure out a setup for this summer. Cheers!
@@ifishcatfish thank you so much for awesome contents! What about legalis 18 vs. sahara 2022? (I'm looking for 2000s for ul fishing, 3000 size for spinning from shore)
hello sir, I have a rust problem on my baitcaster with carbon body, since the reel was exposed to water and I didn't have time to clean it, rust appeared on almost all the bearings and bearing seats, I have ordered new bearings, but after I tried cleaning many times with WD-40 on the reel body and bearing seat, even though it looked clean of rust, after I re-lubricated it and use it, the next day rust appeared again on the bearing seat and it was very difficult to remove, do you know the solution to this problem? Thank you very much 🙌🙌, sorry for my bad english
wd-40 is bad. Just clean with Q-tip and some engine oil or simple grease. U can wipe it off later. The body is not really carbon if its rusting though...

what a great job you saved a good reel from the trash good going

Fantastic video! Very educational for the novice.

a lot of them are... this guy used it for catfishing and didn't catch nothing, i think, so gears were in great shape..
Awesome project!!! Going to be cool to see you on some fish with it
comin up
Wow! Fantastic job Victor! Drag sounds good! Yep watched to the end and it was a bite!

I have a Pflueger president that is smooth like that one !
That was my first reel as an adult, and it was impressive how smooth it was.
Great video
Victor, I always stay until the end, wouldn't miss it.
thanks Dennis! Cheers!
Well done sir!
thank you!
How about this for a thought, backreeling was for an era where it was used to cover other inadequacies in the drag, line or tackle?
Yeah, once upon a time i foshed with russian rackle and had to use it or lose my fish
@@ifishcatfish you wouldnt want to "red"line the drag on a russian reel
You could always replace the whole arm for cheap... And of course, invest in a anti-reverse bearing...

Damn nice resto on the reel.
thanks JP. Have u hit LaSalle yet?
Gotta have a fishing pole to catch a fishing pole as i always say 😂😂😂
I saw the end! Also I’ve seen the UA-cam “lunatic” that advocates backwinding!
hahahha : )
Today... I've learned something
.. We don't necessarily need an anti-reverse bearing...
As ammatter of fact for the nongest time we didnt have it
Great video. Will you make a video fishing with the refurbished reel?
i already made a video fishing with it, but the restoration is 30 mins long, so i decided to post video fishing with it in separate video
wow very nice
Thank you! Cheers!
I light this a lot!
Where do you order your bearings from?
I surprised to learn that there was no gasket between the two halves of the body. I thought that would be necessary to prevent water penetration of the interior.
very few reels have gaskets. Van Staal and other exotic tackle for saltwater..
Wow, that reel probably is worth twice what it originally cost now)) maybe 5x if you include your time
so?
@@ifishcatfish lol, just saying that, other than for educational purposes, refurbing an older reel is a losing proposition;)
When I disassembled the reel, I couldn't reassemble it,😂
It has hapoened to ke many a time, and i say that honestly. No shame in that
That reverse baring is plastic with 6 long little Pieces that go inside off the plastic lol that is funny you could not figure that out

Why would i have something like that?
