Now that I’m retired I’ve collected a number of spinning and bait casting reels. I also watch a lot of fishing related videos. This is the best reel maintenance video I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing this very useful information. God Bless!
Thank you so much for this lesson! I have owned spinning reels for decades and never oiled/greased them. This has inspired me to do it and do it right!👍
Take a can of WD40 once in a while and spray your rod and reel , line and all thoroughly, then take a garden hose and rinse it off and place it in the sun till it drys . It will keep it clean and free of corrosion if you fish salt water .
The handle on spinning reels for right handed is usually on the left side, as it comes default. Would feel awkward for me to reel with my right hand and pull the rod with the left. Weird how it flips for Baitcast, Surf and Trolling reels and yet feels natural.
Thanks for the video. Helped me out a lot. I bought a used rod and reel. The reel was not smooth. Bought the oil and grease you use in this video and it’s so much smoother now. Haven’t tried it out but it is smoother. Thanks again.
eventually u have to clean it out, but id venture an average angler would do it once a year, before the big season they like to fish. doing yourself is easy enough but a professional can do it once a year no pain
Thank you for making this video. I have a reel that is making a knocking sensation when winding with tension & maybe doing this over the winter will help.
Dumb question....is it possible to do this while fishing line is still on the reel? Once you remove the drag and spool, you should be good to go, yes? Great video....very informative! liked and subbed.
Hey: Too much grease is as bad as not enough. If you overload the grease, it just attracts dust and dirt. Keep it light. There IS such a thing as TOO much.More is not necessarily better. Thanks for letting me rant.:
If I dive into the guts of the reel then I'm taking all the parts out and cleaning them before i put new grease and oil in there. There's also a bearing in the front of the reel where the brass worm drive and spool shaft go through. I use the Lew's brand products and they work well also.
I've used the Lucas oil for years is very impressive stuff for out door's activities. 🧐 One battle in each bag just in case someone might need some good stuff for 🎣 and 🔫 Lucas better than WD-40 for heat and stress areas.
Great question Barry.. I actually have around 8 or 9 videos coming out on baitcasters, management, oil, grease, casting, backlashes, Mag brakes, Centrifugal brakes, Spool tensioners, and when to adjust, etc. They have been fun to make.
Nice, its great to hear people keeping older cars instead of replacing at 70-100k miles. my Tacoma has 465k miles and runs like a champ. Only replaced the timing chain water pump and cracked header. Owned it since 80k 🫡..
People often ask me if I’m gonna drive my 88 f-150 until the wheels fall off. I say yea and then I’ll put them back on. No way I’ll be mortgaging a new truck when my old one does just fine for me 👍
I wish I had run across this video a couple weeks earlier. Great advice on how to take care of spinning reels! I have oiled mine in the past, probably not as frequently as I needed to, but have never greased the gears as you have shown here. Thanks for a great informative video!!
I thought I was going to have to trash one of my spinning reels because of lack of maintenance. I took it apart and greased it and it works like new again.
Do you have any recommendations of grease for older fly reels? I have some old Pridex reels that i need to clean up and reapply grease to but i dont want to use a grease that may react badly with the make of the reel.
Thank you for this♥️...I have a question ..Can I put some grease on new bought reels? most new reels I bought is a little try on the inside I was wondering if you can add more grease on it.
Hey boss, I imagine that the "Grease Spray" sprays like a liquid but congeals like a grease. I have never had my hand on those cans before but as long as you can direction the spray to where you want it to go specifically you should be good to go. Remember, Gears Get Grease... Oil the rest IMO
I heard you say;"if you're right handed you put the handle on the rightside", and that's not accurate with a spinning reel as you always reel with the opposite hand and use your dominant hand to cast and fight.

Do you have to grease the bait caster gears I usually just oil my bait caster I just got the Cuardo dc and don’t trust my self with opening the gears to grease them
I use clipper oil and Vaseline. Vaseline is not too thick and very pure. Also, if it needs lube, it needs cleaning. Take it apart, unless you're a moron.
Way better than light oil I had to drop off drips from my dip stick of 5w30 on my line roller but I think everything on a spinning reel should be disassembled cleaned and greased

Hey:

Instead of using that screwdriver to apply the grease , I use a Q tip , it works very well, better then metal to metal .
Plus you get unwanted cotton fibers in your reel
Cut the end off the swab so you don't get cotton fibers in there.

Thanks Wendell, I needed that. Now over to your baitcaster video.

I never did mine before I’ll be doing this as soon as I get that oil and grease

Thanks for the great video, I like to use a small paint brush to apply the grease.
Great idea!
Use a disposable acid/glue brush
I just bout two Penn reels , I oiled them and then looked inside the gear mechanism, they were greased thourghly, surprisingly.

Have you done a video on the care of a Baitcaster?

Good stuff, got the same stuff from Amazon 😆 good price. Need to get that Hot sauce oil 👀

Rem oil and graphite grease from Walmart or a parts store. That's if you don't feel like spending extra for a label. They're the "exact" sane 😂😂

I have a set of those old wood handle screw drivers
There's 2 bearings inside the knob on the handle as well.

Of course.. some come as dry as the Sahara for some reason
Can you use Vaseline for this? I used to use it as a kid for reels. I just didn’t know exactly where to apply it until now.
I wouldn't use vaseline
Nice..thank you for these

Ok for emergency but that reel was loud everything in my opinion should have grease after being cleaned on a spinning reel.
Wth ?
@@davidarwood6264 is that supposed to be a intellectual comment? What does it mean?

Dude. Slow down, be easy. You are slinging that reel all over the place! Lol
I shot this during the winter.. I am going through fish withdrawal
I packed a ton of grease in my gears lol
Lews, super reels!
Get yourself a can of white lithium grease at the automotive store and save yourself a headache.
Does WD40 work?😂
I wouldn't do it
Wd40 isn't a lubericent
WD40 is a degreaser/penetrating oil, not to be used as lubrication for moving parts.
Good for a refresher but please stop waving your hands around while your demonstrating with your hands. Way to distracting.
Way too much grease.
Works like a dream
Don't bother taking apart your reel and putting this on it It will mess up and not work right
Not following your logic brother
The reel body when unscrewing don't pop out and i had to pop out alot of parts. Your reel was more simple
Can I use WD40? InUK we use it literally for everything
I wouldn't....The degreaser in WD-40 will break down the grease and oil, which are necessary for the reel to function properly.
@@wendellfishing thanks a lot for the answer! I won’t!
