Ryan Graves would have made a huge amount of money a couple of years ago in free agency. This deal is going to age well. He is in his late 20's, a top four defenseman, and he has size and speed.

@@joeroganreal Carson Soucy is a decent third pair guy and got 3.25mil. Graves is a decent 2nd pair guy, 4.8mil is not that crazy. The term isn't great, but the Pens will be rebuilding in 2-3 years anyway so it won't matter. This is a perfectly fine contract.

Sid is 35, the Pens will need to be rebuilding in like 2-3 years anway. Giving Graves 6 years won't really hurt them, so if that's what it took to get him signed then fine.

My guys Graves is going to help us win. He’s a top 4 defencemen. 4.5 is fine he’s young. It’s like the Pettersson deal for pens and he’s a good guy for us. I usually like what you guys say but my god you are all way off the mark here. The deal is actually really good.

Might be biased thru my perspective as a Pens fan, but I have no idea why you guys think Graves deserved $2m. I’m shocked a bit by the term but I do not think Dubas overpaid him at all. He probably would have gone to somewhere else for a bit more honestly, and while he isn’t elite he definitely is a big improvement over Dumoulin. Not insanely confused about the signing whatsoever
And as for Jarry, I legit have no idea where else we would have gotten goaltending from. Like I’m super concerned about injuries for how much we paid him, but like I said, what’s the other option? Gibson’s from Pittsburgh and some people might be happy about him being traded here but his cap hit is worse than Jarry’s and he underperformed even in Anaheim, and Hellebuyck is asking for like $10M. What other free agent or tradable goalies would we even be able to land that have a ceiling as high as Jarry’s?
Graves is a slightly above average defenceman, he’s been good with the Devils. He’s basically a Dumo replacement. That’s fair value imo lol
Graves was also making $3.3 million on the deal he was coming off of, I have no idea where you came from guessing $1.5 or 2 million like at least google his contract history before hand.

@@theseanie9958 well, that depends on who you ask. Dubas is getting roasted online for 2 of the signings he made today. And I think the Klingberg singing is actually decent. Lots of offensive upside on a blueline that had terrible production last season and most importantly its only a 1 year deal. Honestly, I think both Dubas and Treliving didn't have a great day.

Dubas didn’t say he wanted to extend jarry. He said that he was gonna evaluate the goaltending market, talk to the pens goaltending coach, Mike Sullivan then make the decision. Obviously based on the market there wasn’t anyone better than jarry. Andersen? Wasn’t leaving Carolina. Korpisalo? Dude has never been a starter and didn’t come much cheaper than jarry. The pens know what they have from jarry and when he has been healthy he has been good.

As a Devils fan I liked Graves, good middle pair defenseman, I wouldn't say he does anything outstanding, but good all around. I'm happy he got his bag and I'm especially happy he got it from not-the-Devils lol.

I'm not thrilled about Jarry, however the entire conditioning team, put in place by a dinosaur of a GM in Hextall, was let go and are being replaced. Hope beyond hope that it helps with the plague of injuries the Penguins have every year to have new eyes in there.
Hopefully not by Dubas guys, Toronto's goalkeepers have had a bad habit of not knowing where their crease is during Dubas' reign
Hopefully Pens finds are bracing themselves. The only thing Dubas is going to do for the Pens is leave them in a heap of losses, bad contracts and no playoff success.
as a pen fan I love the Graves deal a bit to long tho and the Jarry deal should of been 3 but I think the money is right and the only signing I question is why Eller is getting over 2 Mill but other then that I like the moves
Jarry is a career .914 sv%. And his playoff sample size is 8 games. He needs to be kept healthy, that's about it.
You guys are very misguided on Ryan Graves. Fancy stats guys say he is a solid two way, top four D man. The term is a little long, but with where Pittsburgh is competitively I’m not concerned. And someone else probably wanted him, hence the long term. 4.5 AAV is nothing for a top four D man. Ryan Graves is good, man. Fancy stats guys like him.
Jarry wasn't that healthy and our defense was banged up. He was our only real option so I'm sure he played thru injuries when he shouldn't have

As an avs fan I was sad to see Ryan Graves go stellar defenseman at +34 +/- was reliable in his own end with solid offensive numbers and potential I would take him over ever defenseman on the leafs beside Morgan Riely.
Jarry is a two-time all-star, and had injury issues because the Pens have some idiot defensemen who like to run attacking forwards into them. Both he and DeSmith have been injury prone due to their own players doing that to them.
A part of the issue is that Jarry played a lot of games injured because the team really didn't have anyone else. DeSmith and Tokarski couldn't play well enough to taking the starting spot.
You sound like you've seen Graves for 10 minutes, better than Klinberg deal, but Jarry is risky.
In what world did you think a 28 year old top 4 defenseman is getting 2 million a year.
These guys are used to Holl and Jeff Finger contracts and somehow think Graves is a bad deal... im a long time listener but the show is more about passion for hockey and entertainment than knowledge about players or hockey. I get why everyone is concerned about Jarry's health, but I don't hate the deal as much as everyone. What other options did the Penguins have? I don't see any other goalies available via FA or trade that was a clear upgrade other than Hellebuyck. Pens weren't paying what Hellebuyck wants for an extension ($10-$11 mil range from what I heard on the NHL channel). I rather they swing for the fence and get Karlsson if they can. Crosby is only signed for 2 more years, and my gut says he won't play too much longer because I've read that he wants to start a family. They should do everything they can to try to win the next few years, even if they pay the price after Crosby retires.
I don't understand how you try and say the Graves deal is bad and not mention a single defensive statistic.

Those are god numbers, he's not injury prone, it was one injury that kept recurring, he's never missed games before last season, he has one bounce back season this year and does great all of a sudden you have a great goalie on 5.3 for 4 more years and the cap is going up 4 million next year
He has been absolutely catastrophic in the playoffs and must win games, and you don't have much time left with the big 3. Jerry hasn't shown he has it. You don't have time to wait, get him out and get someone new in

Jarry wasn’t a good deal but they wanted to chance it, there wasn’t many goalies to be signed and the Pens had not much of an option and Kyle was already set on Jarry. Graves helps out the top 4 tremendously and gives us a much bigger top 4 than what we’ve had in a long time. If he signed for the Leafs for that same term y’all would be doing backflips. Stop hating

Jarry isn't one of his guys or someone Dubas said he wass going to extend him at any point. All Dubas said at his press conference was that he was going to speak to the staff, tristan, and evaluate him against the market. Also, the contract structure is set up so that the base salary hit, especially with the cap increasing, that could be moved by year 3/ 4 if you had to.

Jarry is good. He’s just been unhealthy for the back half of several seasons. He’s got the Freddie Anderson problem of not having a backup. Now pens are 3 deep in goal and maybe it’s better.

The Graves signing is, obviously, the Vegas effect... Just like the Draft, there's a premium for big, beefy defensemen.
Not at all, Graves and hannifin were the top two contenders if they wanted to bring in someone to slot in to the top 4 on the left side. Trade prices seem to still remain high post-draft and so hannifin is out. Went with Graves instead. He's big sure, but he was a great partner with marino in new jersey last year. He plays well in his own zone and has great breakout passing/ transition game to quickly jumpstart the rush back into thr opposing end. He was a name quickly linked to the penguins as a FA target before their season ended, far before Vegas won the cup.
