These teams are rich enough to fly around North America and they shouldn’t complain one bit about jet lag. As it is, it’s all fucked up anyway. Why is Toronto no longer playing Detroit like they used to? They are a car ride away. Ridiculous.
Toronto fans that keep saying they want just the top 16 teams as the playoff format are simply the worst. Seriously, stop with that narrative, you look simple.
I did a 10 year comparative NHL study on team travel from 1999 - 2009, and found the same glaring problem. The 2 NHL teams that travelled the least …… Yup, you guessed it the New York Rangers, and the Pittsburgh Penguins, Gary Betman’s two favourite teams. The Eastern team that travelled more than others was Florida. In the Western Divisions, all teams travelled more then Pittsburgh, and N.Y. Rangers. Hell, even Nashville travelled twice as much as Pittsburgh. The poor Coyotes, Sharks, and the NHL team to this day that still travels more than every other team in NHL history, the Kings. These teams have had it really bad prior to Seattle joining. I will do another comparative travel study soon, to see if this 30 year trend is still intact.
@@skyehorvath9063 Yeah, none of that is surprising, other than I had seen Florida was way up there, and that doesn't make a ton of sense, must just be scheduling conflicts or something.
You can't blame the Markstrom for the Calgary missing the playoffs. They got the same quality of goaltending as the Kraken (.895 and .887 for their tandem), better goaltending than LA (.876 and .868 from their tandem before trading for Korpisalo), and better goaltending than what Edmonton got from Campbell (.888). The Flames problem is that they are the fifth best team in an 8 team division. A good team would have overcome the goaltending issues (LA, SEA, EDM).
You named the problem without actually mentioning it. Offense is the issue, more than that it was probably the system and the way players were being deployed. Having a struggling goalie in today’s era is not the worst thing, however having a stagnant offense is probably the worst thing
