On the "left wing" thing... Svechnikov plays a lot on the left and shoots left, but they might have him listed as RW because he also plays both sides. Pretty much all of Carolina's 1st and 2nd line wingers can play (and have played) both sides. Depending on upcoming moves, the winger group is: Svechnikov, Jarvis, Teravainen, Necas, Bunting, Fast, Martinook, and then whatever happens on the bottom line. How they mix and match in the Rod Blend'Amour system remains to be seen. But I wouldn't look at it as a "deficit on the left side" because that's just not how they deploy wingers.
Yeah, also have to remember that lots of their centers play left too. Sometimes aho, necas, and svech go out together or necas on the left with staal and fast.
@@jacobfleenor1714 Sometimes, for specific faceoffs or deployments. But their centers *USUALLY* stay center. It's Aho, Kotkaniemi, Staal down the middle and that's pretty consistent. Necas (despite the fact that he wants to play C and projects to eventually play C) has never really gotten that position consistently in this system.
@@brandonmiracle9810 True, and i know necas is listed as an RW but the specific deployments are what I was referring to. The only place where not having a "true" lw would bite them is in those special situations and they have guys who can jump in in all positions. Either way, not a real issue that presents itself in games.
I like how Steve out right admitted he doesn't know what he's talking about by only bringing up how Martinook was waived and not his playoff performance
Rod isn't in the HHOF, but HE SHOULD BE!! and Jordan Staal has never played LW for the canes. He takes faceoffs when he's on the ice lol. I appreciate the effort but you have a ways to go outside of leafs world.
The refs sure aren’t fans of Bunting but it’s clear they’re no fans of Rod Brind’Amour either. I’m thinking either they both find a way to make peace with the refs or it’ll be a long season if the PK isn’t near the top of the NHL as it has been these past couple of years. I’m kind of nervous about this one. I think I’d reverse course on bringing back TDA and keep Pesce instead and still find some way to get another proven scorer. How that happens I have no idea.
I love Michael bunting so its sad to see him leave but I am glad hes getting the money he deserves and a good shot with a good team. Wish him all the best
Little rough on the insight here. Hurricanes have enough money to keep the team as is with bunting and orlov only. Also Noesen is signed with us. Excited to see Bunting in the red and black, he will look good with necas and KK on line 2.
I'm confused...you are saying Michael Bunting is 42 years old. The Michael Bunting that was traded from the Leafs is 27 years old. Are you talking about the same player???
Yea i really doubt bunting will get 50 points again without playing with marner/matthews, the guy did not produce at all when he wasnt playing with those 2
Sounds a lot like what Michael Ferland was like here in 2019. I felt like that piece of grit has been missing, outside of Svech, the last few years. I’ve been also calling for this exact kind of move. Now the question is who is getting moved on the blue line. Could be either Pesce or Skjei.
Exactly, Hurricanes get beat up in the playoffs, literally. Firm believer even in today's age thar toughness will always be a trait needed to win the Cup. We haven't had that.
I wanted the Wings to get him, Bunting, Konecny, and Larkin would have made a good line of great agitation, scoring, speed, and aggression with that line. Frustrated how thing are going now
When bunting first arrived he did his job very well and he embarrassed Defenses so they took cheap shots at him and he drew penalties. But the refs started listening to the whining teams complaining and then he became the one getting the penalties for doing the same thing he has done since the start. With no National TV game in Carolina the refs reaction to him in Carolina should get interesting.
leafs wont do much for this season... its all about next season when they buy out tavares and then truly begin hunting some bigger fish... its sad but its true
Holl gone, no big loss, but Ryan O'Reilly, Noel Accairi, Michael Bunting, Eric Kallgren, Luke Schenn...gone, and gone. We're being decimated here and have Reaves to show for it. Let's not forget that Marner, Matthews, Nylander are all sitting on huge contracts over the next year or so starting today, and we could lose all of them too, and be left with Taveres....another fifty-six year drought...back-to-back. Be worse off than the Coyotes. We'll end up being at $60M for four guys, and have the AHL rotating in our team to dress twenty guys. Hoping that Treliving has an Ace or two up his sleeve!
I think the Leafs went all in, expecting to go deep in the playoffs. Didn't work out. They didn't exactly have the cap space to keep them all, considering they still need to sign Samsonov, but consider Marner, Matthews and Willy for big extensions. The Leafs have some work to do.

Martinook was 'waived,' yeah, but it wasn't like we were trying to get rid of him.

Bunting should send half his new salary to Marner and Matthews.
