China & Japan are different. China has the Great Wall of China & Japan has the great music of BAND-MAID. Plus the Maids don't let people walk all over them :)
The video was originally shot on 8mm film (hence the grainy effect) as the song was inspired by a film where a serial killer captures his victims' deaths on an 8mm camera. Legend has it the song was written as a reaction to criticism that they had become too soft and poppy - hence Saiki's closing line "It's sink or swim, shut up!".
i can relate. it's very subjective. for example Lovebites is not my jam but i still appreciate their talents musically, and i have all their songs in my playlist. I enjoy good music and talents but Band-Maid is like a drug. I bought new dac/amp/headphone just to improve my listening pleasure and for the addiction. I'm a Queen fan btw, if that tells you anything. cheers
Any good music deserves good hifi (recommend CDs or equivalent lossless file downloads for full dynamic range). Your new gear should breath new life into Queen too ('The Prophet's Song' a headphone trip). My first-world problem: All the Maid's releases ripped to USB stick...plugged into the car, but it seems some 'quality' car manufacturers have forgotten how to make car audio properly. The detail and sheer balls is just missing and I'm thinking about parting with some serious cheddar to upgrade the experience. Back in the day you would just throw in power amp, subwoofer and good speaker replacements...but some modern car electronics are too sensitive to cope with power-hungry gear. You need more expensive 'class-D' amps and very efficient speakers and sub (and digital EQ shaping). I'm thinking my music collection deserves it.
same taste in music. I'm 65, grew up with all the greats, Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Deep Purple, The Who, GFR, Sabbath, Dobby Brothers, etc, and the only band than matches Band-Maid in terms of band talent, personality of band & band members, consistency of song writing, is Queen (and Band-Maid beats Queen in terms of the name members being so equal 'stars')
Good review. One mistake many reactors make is to compare Band-Maid to Japanese metal bands like Lovebites and Babymetal. This would be like comparing Guns N Roses to Megadeth or Dream Theater. Nah, you would compare GnR to say Soundgarden or Red Hot Chili Peppers (different hard rock styles but still rock). If you like hard rock but love metal, you're gonna gravitate to Megadeth or Dream Theater (or another metal band not Avenge Sevenfold) over GnR. That's fine. Nothing wrong with that. Now if any of the hard rock bands I've listed don't knock you over, there's no way Band-Maid would. Once again, that's okay. But like you said, you can still respect their talents as hard rock musicians.

Always enjoy your reaction. Good perspective on things. If you want to give them another listen then I suggest the Manners/Black Hole double live. Manners is Classic Bluedy Rock and Black Hole is borderline Prog Metal. Play Live shows off great musicianship and crowd interaction. Dice is a hard driving rock song that is catchy. Different is in a category that I'm not sure what to call...fast, chaotic yet somehow catchy. Speaking of catchy..I have heard other reactors complain Rinne is too catchy for a metal song. But they do have much catchier choruses. BTW...I really wish Puzzle and Moratorium were still on their channel. Most BM fans consider them to be classics and are among their most popular songs. 2 very good hard and interesting hard rock songs.
