Do check out a 3rd version by Crewish. Cover band made up of the road crew which at one time included Tapio Wilska before he found sucess as a singer. He is friends with Tuomas. I mention this because during lockdown Crewish released an album called Twice. And Tapio takes a death metal approach to singing on it. Tuomas did a whole new keyboard track and a bonus, Tarja sang her part of this song. All 3 recorded it seoerately. But the video is hillarious. Now I point out what Tarja does is dictated by who writes the music. When Tarja writes her own songs you see what she can do. Yes trained since her youth and continues to work with a vocal coach. You may watch this concert on Tarja Turunen HD to get a better sound . Tarja was co founder with Tuomas, and Emppu on guitar. Nightwish would have been a folk rock/country band until they heard Tarja sing after her schooling in Germany. Way too powerful for folk rock. BTW Floor met the band in 03. Her band opened for them in Europe that summer. They are still friends Tarja & Floor. Tsrja gave Floor her blessings when the band offered her the gig. Tarja did it live on stage in Belgium fall of 2012. They sang Over the Hills together.

They're so heavy and have so many great songs. They are one of the best live bands ever. They do take time to get though Most people, including me, hated them at first and didn't get it either But it grows. It grows to gigantic proportions

I actually really like that they still take themselves seriously. Just like its not 1993 anymore, its not 2012 anymore either. And this kind of Hipster esque, disingenous post irony has completely overstayed its welcome. Not just in Black Metal, but in multiple different vectors of art and culture.
