I love your honesty and open-mindedness. This actually is one of my favorite songs from Conqueror, because of the groove. Regarding the video, it was intended as a tribute to the “Bohemian Rhapsody” film and contains a bunch of references to it.
From Japan BAND-MAID is a band formed three years later by a woman who came to Tokyo alone at the age of 20 to want to become a singer from a rural area of Japan. Costumes are her idea, not compulsory. Saiki and Misa think that they don't suit the maid outfits and change to the current outfits. At her request, Kanami's outfit is in a style that makes her skirt longer and her breasts not open. They call their costumes combat uniforms, and they always wear them in band activities live performances. It is used until it becomes tattered and can be renewed. They say they wash it by their hands abroad at night and wear them at their next concert. They say they like the crowds who were ridiculing them in maid clothes to be surprised at the performance. To that end, they take their performances seriously.
Hey, thanks for your honest opinion. You are not alone in dismissing BM based on their looks in your first encounter. I must admit that I did it too when BM was suggested to me in the beginning. Since I was already familiar with the Japanese culture, I did not think of the band being sexualized, rather them just being a gimmick band. Luckily I was proven wrong, and the same happened to you too :) I had the feeling that this song would not quite fit, but I needed your input for my "BaldHeaded METAL calibration". It is groovy, but it has what I would call a light-hearted groove. Manners and The Dragon Cries have both what I would call a deep groove. Not very technical, but that is all I can manage with my non-musical background 😄 . So, I still persist with "Flying High" as the next song, and I am going to annoy you until you do it 😉. I have of course alternatives: Play Live - A different groove than all the others you have watched, but I have the feeling it is something you would like. You mentioned enjoying a jam like playing in one of your reactions. This definitely fits the bill. The song structure is also different than the other BM songs, which is probably because it was originally going to be an instrumental, but Saiki liked it so much that she wanted it to have vocals. Daydreaming - Band-Maid doing ballad. I pick this one, because I think you will surprise yourself by liking it. The lead is wonderful here, very melancholic. I still seek revenge - Another song without any MV. Very bass and drums driven, very groovy and funky. Also different from the other grooves you have heard from Band-Maid; I would label it as a mid tempo and darker groove. Not sure about this one. It is perhaps my favorite from the newest album, but our tastes may differ here.
@@BaldHeadedMETAL Check out some of their newest music. For some nonstop nodding check out their music videos, "Warning!" and "Sense. If that's not enough look, at "Dice" and "Blooming." After that you will be programmed to like everything else they have put out.
I mean, it is still a gimmick in the same way that Kiss can be considered a gimmick band. But there is nothing wrong with having a gimmick if that is not all a band is about.
Good reaction as always! You do a good job of keeping it real while being respectful. This song scratches by bluesy classic rock itch. I would like to see you react to Play Live and/or Real Existence Live. Play is a very interesting song that you might really connect with (or maybe not:)). Rel Existence Live is ultra high energy hard rock song with a lot of tempo changes.
Love your honesty. Respect goes a long way. I Love Bubble of course and I Love Band-Maid. I might not like something but respect and humility is key. Peace.
@@GaryHolloway-810 LOL. ☝🏻 WOW, now I'll know when you are angry. BHM knows that Band-Maid and Lovebites are great musicians and their efforts never go unnoticed by us.🎵
@@jkkansasband7056 HAHA. Yep different genres, both awesome. Until Rant & Chill did a comparison vid between them & FECKUD me off. Then he does a Kanami solos vid yesterday but i'm still sure he chucked in a couple of snide remarks. I'm not subbed :)
PS. Manners is my favorite Maid song. Before that it was Don't You Tell Me. Check out the official MV not the live. 3 out of 4 I'd go with the live. Not this time. You might not like it. But I know you'll say so. Give it a shot! Rock on Brother!😊😎
I can totally relate to you. It's partly because of their diversity some bandmaid songs may not be quite your cup of tea. Regarding their costume, I personally find Japan's cosplay culture a bit perverse in general. But to those girls in bandmaid and Lovebites the outfits are 'uniform' or 'armour'. Now reactors are becoming more aware that great rock/metal bands don't have to be male. Sadly though, it's still at the stage where female bands have to sell themselves with their look to push into the male dominated market. Having said that plenty of talented male musicians sold themselves with their looks too, I've seen many bare chests and suggestive body moves. 😁 Anyways it all comes down to how good the music is afterall. Bubble is one of my top 30 bandmaid songs but not in top 10.
I would suggest Moratorium live, real existence live, puzzle live, secret my lips live, and Don’t you tell me live . They are all heavier than their usual stuff :)
Nice reaction. I was not really fond of this song but like you, I like the drumming, especially the tom work and the underappreciated cymbal work. Go Saria...evolved!
exactly western have this straight forward style but in Japanese they can mix genres in a song .... band maid change my perspective in music ,, they have gap in thier music
Excellent! Yes, many westerners are unfamiliar with and confuse the cultural elements at play. BM and LB are not Idol groups. Yes there is Japanese music industry exploitation, but that's not these girls. I've been an active musician for 45 years and in the studio for 30, I understand not liking a band, but outright dismissal shows a certain level of closed-mindedness and ignorance. Too much of that in the western world. Considering how many songs you've reacted to, I knew something was going on in your head contrary to what was being said. 😁 Thanks for the honesty. You got your first like from me. BAND-MAID / REAL EXISTENCE (Official Live Video) ua-cam.com/video/-qQnKILR5u0/v-deo.html
The assumptions many make about Band-Maid (and other female Japanese bands) aren't surprising, simply because they are incredibly few all-female bands in the west - to the extent that many people would suspect a western equivalent would have been 'put together' by a record label, especially if they were attractive. And the ones that were around often seemed to feel the need to out-rock the men in the fast living stakes. The odd thing is that if you look at these female Japanese bands (and there are a ton of them), they are far less sexualised in their appearance than virtually any reasonably attractive western female artist. Oddly it wasn't ever an assumption I made. In fact when I first found out that Band-Maid's songs in the early days were written for them, I was quite disappointed.
I get your point regarding their outfits, but I feel like there is still a difference between how Band-Maid and Lovebites are dressing. Maid costumes are part of otaku culture. You even see them in Japanese porn. They are very much loaded with expectations and stereotypes. Lovebites simply wear white dresses. Not traditionally metal, but it's not the same. Seen people comparing them to Greek goddesses haha. An apt comparison. Said it before, but check out some alt-idol groups such as Broken by the Scream - Sayonara Birthday and PassCode - Freely. Curious to hear what you think of them haha. Oh, and listen to Asterism - Blaze (live) as well for something a bit more different. Great instrumental band.
I think you missed the boat on this song...like you ...I am very critical on my responses. You paused so much with off the wall long comments and really missed the flow and how well this song was written and performed. I think is you listened to it with no pauses you would appreciate it much more. I not saying you should love it but it really is well written and that deserves a fair listen.
They say there are three steps to heaven. I only took one & found BAND-MAID.😇
I thought it was a whole stairway. But one step works for me with my bum knee.
