Just ordered this. I looked at a lot of hand vacs but I finally decided to go with a sure in, Dyson never disappoints. Great video, still good two years later.
I've got the V8 and use it all the time. Despite having several premium vacuums to choose from, the V8 gets the most use. It's super easy to maneuver and does a remarkably good job on my 3 dog household. And speaking of dogs, the cleaner has rarely smelled 'doggy' - maybe once or twice in a couple of years use. And when it did, a good clean out fixed the issue. I've got 1700SF of house to clean and it has never run out of charge. I've never owned other Dyson machines - always thought they looked and felt cheap - but this one gets my 2 thumbs up.
I am currently using the V7 as my vacuum of the month for June and it seems to do a good job, but I don’t consider it good enough to replace a mains powered vacuum.
Thank you for the unboxing and review. I was able to buy a Dyson V7 on a Black Friday deal at half off. With a toddler at home, this will be well needed. I hope it picks up cheerios, where as my cordless Shark had difficulty doing. Take care
Excellent review. I contacted Dyson in Australia and they advised batteries do not come with a warranty as they are a consumable. Replacement V7 batteries are available for AU$85 with free delivery direct from Dyson. It's a simple method to remove 3 screws, to remove old battery and replace with new one. I suggest Dyson should make the battery easily removable without screws. Then you could have a backup battery charged ready to do extra cleaning, if you have a large area to vacuum. Alternatively, they could use the same 2,600mAh battery as used in the V10, which gives a run time of 40 minutes on regular setting.
i just got the V7 as a gift from my daughter and my first impression is good except the battery run-time is not what I expected. It should have a larger battery or an option to swap them. In my opinion.
Thanks my sweets just bought the V7,so your video was very helpful,I have to mount my charger assembly in a wall some way,I have it wired up and charging just need that sweet spot to bolt it on the wall.thanks for your demo on empting the debris from it didn't get that far .
much appreciate your review. I now understand how the canister emptying system is designed to work, which is otherwise not very intuitive. I assumed you lift the red lever slightly and the catch at the bottom of the clear canister just releases: not at all that simple however! This action is very poorly described in the manual. Important I think to also demo the HEPA filter on the motor-end as part of your presentation. Finally, interesting to note that Dyson have dropped the crevice tool from V7 kits currently supplied. Not happy as that attachment is essential for vacuuming the car.
I had a blue V7 Motörhead origin(Walmart special only difference is it didn’t come it’s a crevice tool) Called dyson and sent it back because it had a amber/green colored light when I put it on the charger after running it completely dead. So they sent me another one. Used it today and same light a amber one when I put it on to charge it. Rereading the owners literature that means the cleaner is to hot or cold to charge (basically operating as designed) love my dyson. I’d rather use my v7 to clean up high than using my dyson ball not a big fan of the hose.
I didn’t realise how small this is compared to V11. I brought the v7 for my mum for Xmas , I wanted to get her the v11 but I didn’t have $1299 to spend
Be interested to see what you think of the Dyson V10, I own one and personally never use anything other than medium power setting as the brush bar manages to rip up pet hair and long female hairs with ease without needing the extra suction! I get it doesn't match an upright power wise but on medium mode 27 minutes cleaning with the main brush bar is brilliant for me cleaning several rooms. Thanks for the excellent videos!
ibaisaic There are a few but no one goes as in depth as you do with Vacuum testing and breaking things down so would be interesting. I think personally you'll be impressed at how far they've come since the V6 and V7 power wise.
I love the idea of cordless but the short run time is what keeps me from buying one. With a 3000 square feet house this little vac just won't cut it. Great video Roger
Hiii, I am planning to buy this v7, I am a bit hesitating coz I am not pretty sure that I can use it on my sofa/mattress as well. Can I use these heads on my fabrics?
I just got a v7, brand new out of the box and I fully charged it but it doesn't seem to have as much power as in your video, is there anything else you need to do prior to 1st use other than charge it up?
Thinking about getting a cordless but very few on ebay with the fluffy head. Should I go for a cheaper v6, invest in a new v7, look at a different brand with a hard floor head e.g Shark, or skip the fluffy altogether? I'll be taking it to my student halls, with a carpeted bedroom and hard floors connecting the rooms and in the kitchen. What do you think?
You forgot to show and mention the other filter at the rear of the motor. This filter could be HEPA filter and found by unscrewing that other rear grey cap on your model
This model does not have a filter at the rear that is designed to be removed by the user. If there is another filter you would need to dismantle the motor unit to get to it.
I vacuum every single day I live in a small flat I have laminated flooring I need a vacuum which is good light weight easy to store and easy to use i have 2 kids I am soon going to have another baby so I need something I can quickly take out and vacuum the whole flat with tight corners and spaces should I buy this one
james fallows I have a Vax Blade, but not for long. I would not recommend them. They are good vacuums, but keeping them clean is a night mare. Its going the mile very soon and its getting replaced with a dyson. Not sure which one yet though.
Hello I like the Dyson V7 Moterhead. I am the first person to comment on this video the 17th preson to like this video and the 161 person to watch this video. Would you recommed this or the V8?
Catastrophic Failure is inevitable for the spinning brush machine head. Hopefully you got an extended warranty for this machine, as the wires used are substandard. And they are located where moving parts rub against, and push and pull on them. Eventually these wires snap and break, and if your out of warranty your screwed, and will have to order a new spinning machine head. I have two V7’s and that happened to both machines, ( warranty covered one) I disassembled them and found broken wires in the exact same spot. These machines are almost impossible to repair, as once you release wires from their position , its almost impossible to put them back in place, and they are so brittle that you will probably compromise them trying. Sounds like a Class Action Suit for V7 owners, as it’s obviously a design , and engineering mistake. They new this, and corrected that issue with the next model.
I need a vacuum that can be stored easily, used easily daily, I have 2 cats and have both hard floors and carpets what would you recommend both corded and cordless? I have been looking at the v7. Currently have a Henry but it's just to big store....help!
No cordless vacuum I’ve ever used has the power of a mains powered upright. Some may come close, but only have that power for a few minutes before running out of charge.
Very true (cordless vs. mains), but for me, the good vacuum is the one that's easy to use. I have 3 shedding dogs and am a 'neat freak', so frequent vacuuming is a must. If I had to lug out the mains powered vacuums every time, there would be a lot more dog hair in my house. I owe my vacuum obsession to . . . a lifetime of canine companionship.
It is Li-Ion battery? If it is you don't need a full charge...on the contrary, full charges are slowly more damaging than burst and incomplete charges... (Even the first one...there's no more memory on the batteries..) No matter what the folks are saying about this...EVEN IF THE PAPERS on the product says this. Btw, they aren't giving full warranty on the batteries, no? :)
These vacuums are good but the motorhead is poorly designed, I have replaced two already. The bottom of the motorhead has small wheels upfront but not in the back, this causes the plastic to scrap on the floor wearing out the whole bottom if cleaning hard flooring, carpet not so much. The rear large plastic wheels wear out fast and become loose, poor design here also. I have not had any other issues with the vacuum accept for the motorhead wearing out which is expensive to replace.
I received a V7 as a gift and all I can say - it's a piece of junk. Brand new out of the box, brush bar not turning, no suction, and Dyson will not help. Went with them back and fort per e-mail, without results. I also have a Dyson Multi Ball II, which I purchased in 2018 and in 2019 the motor and yolk assembly had to be replaced. There are no children and only 2 adults in my house - so not much traffic at all. And I received the V& as a gift because I had a hard time with the Dyson Ball Multi II on my steps. (10 of them) All I can say don't buy a Dyson - I'm furious with the 2 I have. Customer service no help at all. Last e-mail yesterday, wished my an amazing day (with a non-working new V7) how cynical is that.

I love Dyson using these funky colors. I wish we’d see more of it again.
i hope im geting this for christmas

Just ordered this. I looked at a lot of hand vacs but I finally decided to go with a sure in, Dyson never disappoints. Great video, still good two years later.
Why didn’t you order the Dyson V11 absolute? By far more superior to this model.
Kitty I’ve seen videos even from ibaisaic the brush bar sensor failed on many models for different reasons

Very informative thank you. I just bought one of the Total Clean V7 today rather than the newer models as it is lighter.
Very informative! I’m buying this vacuum tomorrow and I now know what to expect when unboxing it and putting it to use!
When I opened the box I just thought how long is this going to take me to put it together.Your video was so good thank you so much .
Glad I could help!

I actually have 2 dyson's vaccums, the Dyson V6 and the origin bagless vaccum
Great demo! Thank you!
your video worked like a charm well done!
Could you do a natural vacuuming around your house with the V7 motor head and show us how much dirt it picked up, please ☺️
Great demo ,thank you
Very nice video
I love the idea of cordless but the short run time is what keeps me from buying one. With a 3000 square feet house this little vac just won't cut it. Great video Roger
They are good for quick clean ups and daily cleans of frequently used rooms, but not good for cleaning a large house in one go.
Mine came with a mini motor head but it didnt have the spinning thing and that thing that clips it on to the main body
Hiii, I am planning to buy this v7, I am a bit hesitating coz I am not pretty sure that I can use it on my sofa/mattress as well. Can I use these heads on my fabrics?
I bought a v8 last week and there is no of these attention stickers on it. but i got the new crevicetool with light.
The stickers are on refurbished models.
Thank you
Great job

I plan to do a duel video/videos of several cordless vacuums.

@Erwin Schrödinger "monies"? What? Why should he pander to you, how about you look it up yourself or see how much they are in the US yourself?
Mine cost £250.00 from Amazon.

Hi, great review Rodger, are you going to do an updated review of the Remington Vic vac?
The Remington Vic Vac didn’t work when I got it and I haven't been able to fix it yet.
You said the only difference between the models is the tools. Isn't the extra brush bar power unique to the motorhead?
I consider the Motorhead to be a tool, I was referring to the cleaner itself, though I believe there is a V7 with a filter similar to the V8 model.
Fair enough. Thanks for the great video as always.
Thanks - just got the V7 from Target but it didn't come with a crevice tool. Have you ever vacuumed your dog? :)
I have vacuumed one of my dogs using the Dyson Groom tool.

What happened to the V9?
James Dyson has a crippling phobia against the number 9, so after the V8 he launched the V10.
First comment Roger and nice video was waiting for a v7 wonder if Dyson aren't telling porky pies and it has the power of an upright
