Hi Dr. Phillips -- I started your total mouth care system 3 days ago. I can already tell a difference! My gums are no longer bleeding and my mouth feels amazing! This is incredible. Sad most of the dentists out there won't share this info because then they'd have less in their pocketbook.
Such BS, your gums didn't stop bleeding in just 3 days! I would bet you stopped flossing, so you wouldn't know. Flossing has proved over and over to work. Yet this doctor nut bag tells people not to floss.
@ it worked for, if you bought her products. lol. But why am I so angry? Because I’m tired of UA-camr lies and scams. People need to start using their brains and stop falling for their crap.
I have H Ehlers Danlos syndrome and it really has affected my teeth since I was a toddler, im also autistic with a PDA profile,so doing basic things like eating, drinking ,taking a shower can be very hard for me,I love all that I'm learning, bcs I hate going to the dentist and I'll do anything to stay away from any kind of dr .
I am so happy for your interest and I'd suggest you begin with Zellies xylitol mints. Maybe try the cherry berry mints - and have one or two after every meal and also last thing before bed at night. Zellies are fun and delicious and a wonderful way to protect your teeth when oral care is difficult or not possible. The military used xylitol gum when fighting in areas where oral care is impossible. The xylitol military program was called "Look For Xylitol First" and this began during the gulf wars when two pieces of xylitol gum was added to every Meal Ready to Eat (MRE) pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15116453/#:~:text=The%20Dental%20Command%20has%20created,products%20for%20their%20xylitol%20content.
@@dr.elliephillipsI have been using your complete mouth care including Xylitol mints since June. The last couple of months I have noticed brown staining between my teeth that I didn’t have prior to starting the program. Can you help me with what might be going on? Thank you in advance.
@@mikerodier4917 You need to be brushing those areas better. Your teeth may have been more porous than some people's or your plaque may have been stickier for some reason- but this is just surface debris which needs a bit more vigor when you brush. I’ve had extensive dental work done. I thought I was doing my best brushing and flossing every day but I’ve lost so much enamel over the years- every time I go to a new dentist, they ask if I ever had bulimia or acid reflux. ( I haven’t ) I know acidity is my problem but I didn’t know what to do about it. Im giving this system a shot. Bought closys today and am getting everything else on the list tonight. Thank you for the system and for the reasoning behind your product choices. I hope to return to this video after several weeks with a positive testimonial.
Wow DR. Ellie, you are a legend for all this information. After not taking great care of my teeth, never having learned as a child how to correctly, I am excited to try your system. I was taught to rinse my mouth with water after brushing. I have an incredibly healthy diet these days due to health reasons, and just had all my really bad cavities filled and spent a bunch of money after not visiting the dentist for over a decade except for emergencies. I have been using flouride free toothpaste for like 2 years, as I'm scared of it, (I also don't drink tap water for that reason) and you've convinced me to make the jump back to it and your system as a whole. Thanks again, I'll be ordering the mints and buying all the products tomorrow to start this system daily!
@@charismatic9467 At DrEllie.com I have an oral health video bootcamp with a 20 minute video to explain more about fluoride - my experiences with it early on and my understanding of how to use it for our benefit and the difference when we ingest vs. topical.
THANK YOU! I also have wonderful teeth. I am 60 years old and very rarely floss (i hate it and my teeth are so slose together it is such a pain). Additionally, i am a vet and after learning about seeding bacteria into the blood stream and how bad it was, flossing just seemed like a bad idea to me. Interestingly i have always had an overly acidic overall body pH. My finger tips ate the nickel plating off my flute keys and i never have had a yeast infection, but i do not have any teeth problems. I freaked out around perimenopause when i started having "burning mouth" and loss of taste problems in my mouth. I went into the dentist for a checkup after 24 years thinking something dire was going on. They found nothing unusual and were astounded that i had not had my teeth cleaned for 24 years (i grew up next door to my dentist. His daughters were my besties and they had to have ortho work ... my teeth were always very straight cand white). Of course, THEY cleaned my teeth, but neither they or any other doctor could tell me why i had the burning sensation in my mouth and on my tounge n gums. So ... 7 years later at 60 years old i finally got injectable methotrexate perscribed for autoimmune connective tissue problems and chronic pain severe (FINALLY ... believe me nothing or no doctors were of any help until then!). It has helped with everything and from now on i am using your system. Makes total sense! I love my healthy teeth and want to keep them that way for the rest of my life! I only ever had a single cavity in my early twenties and it was in one of these weird, natural tiny pits that were in the later/buccal sides of two of my lower molars (?). My childhood dentist filled the pits on both sides at the time altho i only had a tiny cavity on one side. Now, many pets seem to have horrendous oral/teeth problems most of which (i suspect ) are induced by what and how they are fed. I could net afford it, but my dogs best mouth health exists thru a rawcdiet with bones! Beatiiful teeth! Oh yeah, I have always been a big milk drinker ... i c4ave it and have no lactose issue luckily!
It is so fabulous to hear your dental story...especially all those years you went without a cleaning - yes!!! ...good for you! When I gave up dental cleanings I wondered how long I would be able to "go" without a cleaning. I was thinking at the time - maybe four or five years....then ten...then twenty ...now it is 45 years :) I continued to get evaluations frequently and did lots of bacterial testing during that time. I even won an "oral health competition" in 2015 comparing oral health among a group of doctors and dentists....it's quite amusing. Here is a link to this competition which occurred at a dental meeting in 2015.... www.aaosh.org/connect/aaosh-medical-testing-in-dallas-the-results-are-in
Thank you so much, Dr. My wife and I started following your system 2 days ago. We love it, our teeth feel really clean. Some products are not available in Canada, but we were able to buy them from the US.
@DOLEWDREW I think it came up to 37 cad We are about 1 hour from the US. We got a 6 months supply of Closys and ACT. Paid the custom duties and a nice stroll for my family.
@@dr.elliephillips Thanks for your reply but Fluoriguard is not available either. I found a Colgate Pro-Relief that has .05% sodium fluoride. But I do have some concerns that I hope you can address about an interview I saw by a lady in Texas who practices biological dentistry. She stated that most mouthwashes are like taking a blowtorch to the microbiome and that Listerine is akin to Roundup for the mouth😕❗She also emphasized that cavities are not caused by a Fluoride deficiency. I would appreciate a commentary on these points she made. Thanks!
@@DOLEWDREW There is a lot of misinformation about mouth- rinse. I have addressed this in all kinds of places. maybe you would enjoy my video oral health bootcamp - where I have a 20 minute video about fluoride and where many of these questions have already been answered in the comment sections.DrEllie.com
I can only buy in the UK the kids ACT the grape flavour, however it still has the same amount of fluoride in it, so I hope that’s ok. I have started on your 5 step dental process, which includes Xylitol mints, and my teeth feel so shiny, and I feel my mouth is really clean. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
@@dr.elliephillipssame here. Cannot get ACT in the UK. I have however got the Closys, and Xylitol toothpaste, and Xylitol mouthwash, and the gum. Can these be used in your system?
Acquired the rinses, brushes and mints and the cycle of placque has been broken. My teeth feel shiny, slippery. I’m 61, disappointed in about getting a crown so that’s when I listened to Dr. Ellie and so thankful for all clear info and advice. I have a great dentist but stuck in the twice a year cleanings and xrays. Will be tough to cancel but it seems necessary to build up biofilm. He’s harvard trained but tired of mindless cleanings and x-rays.
Harvard isn't special, just expensive. They churn out little cogs in the machine. Typical dentistry is very, very outdated and very fixated on creating dependent patients who need expensive work all the time.
My husband and I started your total mouth care system last week and it's incredible how different my mouth feels! QUESTION: You mentioned the mouthwash with zinc can cause sensitivity. Does taking zinc as a supplement to the same thing, or is it only when used as a rinse? Thank you so much, I have learned so much from you!
There’s a book called “[Cu]re Your Fatigue" by Morley Robbin’s where he discusses having a proper balance of copper, magnesium and iron. Zinc interferes with copper metabolism and a lack of copper can lead to teeth issues. So I would recommend reading the book, but it does seem that supplementation with zinc can cause issues with your teeth according to Mr. Robbin’s.
Thank you so much for teaching us! I understood the purpose of each step, except for using ACT (fluoride rinse) at the end. What is the purpose of using this product please? Is it also remineralization (like the toohpaste Crest)?
At night time, can I wear my night guard afterwards (for clenching/grinding)? Does the guard interfere with the ph or biofilm in the mouth when sleeping?
for the listerine cool mint mouth wash, there are two version: with Alcohol vs with No alcohol. do they work the same? or better to get the one with Alcohol ? Thank you.
I went to Walmart the other day and most Listerine bottles smaller, bigger and different flavors, they all have the same ingredients in them. So why does it matter to be so specific and buy Listerine cool mint only in small bottle?
In the whole system package photo on her website it shows the older, alcohol version of ACT. But in this 2023 video at 0:17, she specifically says and shows the "ZERO ALCOHOL" kind.
Thank you! Please, why do zellies ( xylitol) works in harmony with the ACT? What is the purpose of using ACT at the end? I would like to understand. I'm really enjoying learning all the benefits of each step. It helps me have more discipline applying things. 😊
A day’s recap : when you wake up, your mouth is acidic. Mouth wash it back to neutral (alkaline) with Closys. Then brush your teeth. When you eat : mouth gets acidic. At the end of meal, Xylitol mint or gum rebalances your mouth’s pH back to neutral (alkaline). At night: brush, Listerine (twice swish), followed by Act. Listerine is an antiseptic that contains 3 essential oils that kills certain bacteria, and it’s also acidic. That’s why you have to rinse it out with the following Act mouthwash that alkaline’s. Act also contains Fluoride which is what you want to keep on your teeth to Remineralize them at the very end of the process. Cheers!
I literally went onto amazon to pick it up and I saw the bigger bottle. I addded it to my cart and instantaneously you said "Do not pick up the big bottle!" I guess you could say I was caught in the act 😭
Hey Ellie, thanks for your amazing recommendations! I live in Italy, and the only ACT mouth rinse I can find on-line in Europe is the Restoring and not the Anticavity. Would you kindly suggest alternative brands that would be compatible to the American ACT and that I would possibly be able to find on this side of the pond? Thank you again for all that you do!
Hi Dr Phillips. I started your system a few days ago. Thank you for all the important information. Should I rinse brush my teeth as soon as I wake up, or rinse and brush after breakfast?
One thing I dont quite understand. I’m a biologist, so I need to 😌When we finish with the Act, wont it bring the pH down to the Act ph cancelling what the Closys did with pH ~6.9?
Don’t worry…she won’t answer your question because she can’t answer it in a way that supports her cause ($). Does she get paid by listerine? That’s the question. Then you can get scientific
It would help if you see a complete one hour video on the doctor's mouth care system. Also for curious minds the doctor has online oral bootcamp. I would like to remind that the doctor wrote two bestsellers on mouth chemistry and care (check Amazon top list on oral care). In the video the doctor said something like remineralization goes better in a slightly acidic environment.
Closys is in the neutral range - 7.1, Listerine Cool Mint is acidic - 4.3, ACT is in the neutral range - 6.0-7.6. That's why it's important to use ACT after the Listerine, otherwise you are leaving something acidic on your teeth - not a good idea.
I do not suggest you rinse at all during or after using the system. This is because rinsing would wash away the amazing benefits of this system. It would be similar to taking a shower after having beautiful oils applied to your skin at a spa treatment.... Instead, spit out the rinse - several times if necessary. If you find you have a lot of saliva - try using a xylitol nasal spray as another final "step"...after the ACT rinse. You can also have a Zellie mint if you want to get the taste out of your mouth. Water will wash away the benefits. A Zellie's mint will stimulate a flow of saliva and this will be beneficial as it "washes" over your mouth supplying minerals and immune cells that will help to heal your teeth and gums.
@@dr.elliephillips oh that's a great idea i can definitely do that. thanks for responding! I've been doing it for some weeks now and I'm really liking the results
My teeth have felt cleaner since a week or so of following the steps, and I look forward to hearing what my dental hygienist says at my next appointment.

Hi Dr Ellie. Sorry one more question. Do you have an Australian equivalent for Zellies 100% Xylitol gum or mints please? I don't think its available in Australia. Thank you.
I need to check those ingredients.. if they have chemicals or petroleum or dyes I won't use those no matter what. The mouth is so absorbent and I live chemical free as much as I can control and this includes floss, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, etc.. not to mention food, drinks, soaps, shampoos, etc.. I've started a xylitol regimen too and my teeth have never felt more smooth and clean. I'm looking for 1 product well maybe a toothpaste and mouthrinse but like I said no chemicals, dyes or scrubbing agents. Right now I'm using risewell toothpaste mixed with Dr bronners for a little more mint kick. I'm using their mouthwash at night. I'll do another in the morning which is black seed oil, tea tree, Spearmint, xylitol and activated charcoal. Then I have xylitol crystals I'll swish around after I eat and zellies mints too. As well as SMILE gun which is xylitol and activated charcoal. I like this gum because 1 it gets hard after a while and if I chew it long enough it gives me a nice workout to strengthen and tighten my face. I can already see a difference as it tightens my face too. Anyways, anyone have a all in one solution or more consolidated solution?
Very clear but I still haven’t managed to understand if cool mint listerine antiseptic is the same as cool mint listerine which is not labelled antiseptic ?

Hi Dr. Ellie, I just found you and can’t wait to start your system. QUESTION: I have bad plaque. Should I get a professional cleaning to remove and proceed with your system? Or will your system eventually remove it naturally? Lastly, thank you for your passion and dedication! ❤️

Is there a UK alternative i have purchased Colgate Fluorigard as it contains 0.05% sodium fluoride I am unable to get the ACT you state in the UK Many thanks so glad i found your channel and wish i had found it years ago
Thank you so much. I live in Europe and would be grateful for alternative suggestions for the CloSYS and ACT mouth rinses. Also is there an alternative to Crest toothpaste? As I am unable to buy these items here. Many thanks in advance, Emma
Dr. Ellie, I think I finally found an equivalent in southeast Europe that meets your specifications: Dentalux alcohol-free. Its only ingredient I've heard you warn us against is zinc chloride. But other than that, it's the closest I can find to ACT. Let me know if you'd like me to provide the ingredients list. I hope this helps.
@@Moorea2008 Probably at the time of recording Dr. Ellie was not aware that Ultradex contains baking soda which she many times damned in her videos. Fluorigard contains glycerin, you can check her website were she specified glycerin as non-desirable component. So your input is plain BS
Dr Phillips, I'm here in Canada and looking at the ACT wash available. All flavours and varieties contain cetylpyridinium chloride, which is another antiseptic /antibacterial used in other mouthwashes. Is this not a problem for disrupting the ideal mouth flora?
Thank you. Long term Prednisone patient. RDA of calcium and vitamin D3, (4000iu determinded by blood test to achiece 60 ng/ml) and vitamin K2 as MK4 is a tremendous help.
Wonderful video. Exceptionally presented. Dr Ellie you speak so beautifully and have a lovely way of presenting your content. I have a question please. What is the difference between Listerine Cool Mint and Zero mouthwashes? Because the cool mint and zero bottles are the same colour and so look the same. Also on the Zero bottle (which I have) there are no percentage breakdowns given of the ingredient that you stated the mouthwash needed in order to be effective. Thank you from Australia.
Listerine zero has no alcohol in it. The cool mint has alcohol in it. According to the companies own website the cool mint reduces plaque and gum disease and the zero doesn't do either of those.
I have been using this system for about 2 months now and my tooth sensitivity has been reduced to almost zero. However, now I am getting some dark buildup between my teeth that will only come off with floss. Any idea what is going on? Could it be the dye in the Listerine or ACT?
Are you taking iron supplements? Surprisingly they contribute to what appears to be plaque. (some people maybe not others). My teeth are “clean as a whistle” but i have noticed marks since i have been taking Fefumarate
Great - one word of caution - ensure you have the EXACT products. drEllie.com has pictures and links to products so you can double check. Closys has many different formulations - and the one you want is the Ulrasensitive.... Get the right kind of toothbrushes.....and let me know how it goes :)
I eagerly bought the products mentioned to try after dental cleaning, however to my horror my teeth started to develop horrible brown stains! I searched online and found the likely culprit to be the ingredient Cetylpyridinium chloride CPC found in the ACT mouthwash recommended. Apparently the only way to remove it is to get it cleaned at the dentist’s, however I was hoping you have an alternative solution. Also, what mouthwash would you then recommend for those of us whose teeth get stained brown by ACT mouthwash?
Hi Dr Ellie, thank you for your video. Please may you explain why we use the ACT mouthwash rather than leaving the crest toothpaste (with a higher concentration of flouride) on our teeth? Can we go back in with crest after on our teeth for extra protection? I am currently awaiting my delivery form Healthy Kiwis. Thank you 😀
In another recent video... think it was the step 2 one about toothpaste she addresses the sorbitol issue. Basically she says it will be okay to use these mouthwashes with sorbitol as it's not perfect but its the best products currently available that accomplish what she is trying to help us accomplish.
It seems that ACT Anticavity Fluoride Rinse has three flavors. In addition to mint in the video, there are arctic blast and cinnamon, and the ingredients seem to be the same for all of them according to the site description. Is it okay to use something other than mint?
I was wondering the same thing. In another comment with a similar question, Dr Ellie has answered that it should be ok (if it is the exact same bottle, with just another flavour, for example cinnamon). 😊
I can t get ACT in Germany. What can I use instead? I d like to start the programme but I really want to do it correctly - so I m hoping for an answer from Dr. Ellie Phillips. Thanks in advance 😊
Does anyone know what toothpaste is the equivalent of Crest here in Ireland. Crest can be bought online but I don’t see the original formula plus it works out expensive with delivery included 🇮🇪
Going to buy the specified items today and give it a shot. Good information in all 5 vids! I did try the brushing of the gums technique and teeth followed by the mouth rinse. My gums feel better. I usually just ran over them but this time I invested into it! I had to use my sensodyne though..for now! But currently my tooth pain and wisdom teeth feel better. I hope the system will help me! And talk more about how pregnancy kills teeth! Not literally of course but I wish I’d known! I had great teeth before and now some have been pulled. And these darn wisdom teeth…I thought only one left to deal with but no…at 43 the 4th one is now erupting in. I felt around and can actually feel the small bit of tooth! Crazy! 😂 Have a great day!❤

Thank you Dr Phillips. Are there any replacements for ACT, and Closys, maybe from Colgate or Oral -B? (brands that we can find in Europe)? Or, what ingredients should we look for/ avoid in those products?
Responding with what I understand to be the substitutes recommended by Dr Ellie: UltraDex Oral Rinse and Colgate Fluorigard in place of Closys and ACT respectively. Hope that helps.
Thank you for this info. Has dr Ellie ever mentioned these specific brands or the ingredients that they both share? Reviews about them are great and i wish this are the substitutes we need. Do you know if the Original or th mint version of UltraDex Oral Rinse is the right choice?
@@Classicdslr You cannot compare Ultradex with Closys. Ultradex has baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate), an ingredient that Dr.Ellie damned in almost every video. Fluorigard contains glycerin so it is also no go.

Dr Phillips, I would love to hear your thoughts on CariFree Treatment Anti-cavity Flouride mouthwash, because based on your recommendations, it seems to fit the bill for the perfect post-brushing rinse as it also has a high pH, unlike either Listerine or ACT. Their website says it is anti-microbial, anti-cavity, remineralizing and pH-balancing. Active Ingredients: .05% Sodium Fluoride when mixed Inactive Ingredients: Menthol, Natural Flavors, Polysorbate 20, Sodium Benzoate, Water, Xylitol
CariFree was designed for children - and the first rinse in the sequence is basically chlorox.....dilute bleach. This is not my recommendation - and so I have never tried or experimented with the CariFree line. I am pretty certain they will not provide the same long term outcome. The final rinse - does it work? I'm not sure - Just check if it has glycerin in it......because that would be a potential problem you would avoid with ACT.
I'm from Russia and I want to thank you for your system and the hope that you brought to the people by this❤ Can I ask a question? You mentioned that ACT is the most important rinse. rinse with water and Xylitol, she claim it will "stave" the baterias. just make sure not to use this if you have pet in the house like a dog or cat, as it can kill them because their body cannot process it.
@dr.elliephillips I reside in the Philippines and I don't think these products are available here except for Crest. What can I use as alternatives and what brand of Xylitol can I take? Zellies is just available in the US and Canada. Thank you.
Since the formula is so thoughtfully researched please point out or show a photo of the FLUORIGARD mouthwash as a substitute for ACT and the ULTRADEX mouth rinse substitute for Closys since I wonder if there are many variations of it. And Please do explain if there is a difference in effectiveness between the Listerine cool mint antiseptic and just the cool mint. They seem to be alike however one is labelled antiseptic whereas the other isn’t and there’s a difference in price.
Can you get “original”? That’s the only thing that Ellie unambiguously supports which is not a listerine mod. I personally use the original and the feeling after using it in “the system” is unrivalled. It is a whole new level of “pleasant”. As dr ellie has said in other vids, there are caveats to using it so that the experience is enjoyable.

Question, Dr Ellie. Can i use a mouthwash that has menthol, eucalyptus, and thymol or thyme essential oil in place of Listerine? It would be nice not to use something with alcohol and sorbitol, coloring etc.
Dr. Ellie, a question about ACT from someone who chose to remove Flouride from all my dental products many years ago (for better or worse!). Use of ACT is at the very end of your system so based on your instructions, Would it be correct to assume that after approx a minute of rinsing with ACT , one just spits it out but don't follow it up with a water rinse - is that correct? if that is the case, whats your thoughts about ingestion of the residual fluoride in the ACT left inside the mouth (plus any left behind by the Crest). Based on your video, I do see you are not a fan of Fluoride in water, but what is your thought about twice a day exposure(internally and not just topically on the teeth) to the fluoride in ACT , specially if its not thoroughly rinsed with water at the end of each regimen? I do drink water in California so daily expose to fluoride in water is a reality. How do these two levels compare?
Not Dr Ellie, but I had the same reservations and she answered me. Nutshell - the amount of fluoride it takes to benefit the teeth, is minute. She encourages us put a tiny amount of toothpaste on the brush. You just want to give the brush some slip so you can massage gums, and get the paste on the teeth. Don’t rinse with water - you want the ACT to work on the teeth.
@@kimariokiji thanks for sharing specially about not rinsing since it wasn't explicitly explained in the video . I certainly hope that Dr Ellie will still respond to my question about the concentration of fluoride in the ACT(left behind after the rinse) vs. Fluoride in Water or any other source of Fluoride she's not a fan of.
@@HoomanR17i have been pondering a similar issue, so I’m adding my interest… I’m ambivalent toward fluoride in oral care products, against being surreptitiously forced to ingest it via community water supplies. THE FOLLOWING IS PERSONAL CONJECTURE AND NOT ADVICE RE: COMPLETE MOUTH CARE I spit it out… I am aware of the benefits of fluoride topical, however i feel we are so saturated with fluoride in this day and age our bodies contain plenty even in the absence of being inundated. Hi Dr. Ellie, I’m so excited to get started with your program - I have a question about the use of probiotics. I just purchased Pro-Dental by hyper-biotics brand and it instructs to chew the probiotic tablet after brushing and using mouthwash - would this be safe to do right after using your system? Or is there a better time I should take it? Thank you!
Hmmm...good question. I'd use these maybe mid-afternoon - by themselves. This is when your saliva is at its most healing and supportive. I am not sure how these probiotics are supposed to work - since biofilm does not accept "intruder bacteria" but - at least use them up I guess :) If you are interested to learn more about the difference between planktonic and biofilm bacteria - my book Mouth Care Comes Clean is an explanation of the mouths biochemistry in simple language.

Dr. Ellie I’m wondering is it necessary to use the act mouth rinse after the Listerine or can I just rinse with water or rinse with a xylitol solution?
I have been following her steps for one month but I notice my teeth have developed a lot of stains. I was told that ACT anticavity rinse causes stain on teeth. Has this happened to anyone? My teeth look worse than before I started this regimen :(
Doctor has addressed staining in comments under many of her videos. Dead plaque should be removed by vigorous brushing by proper and clean toothbrush otherwise it will stain your teeth.
Same here. Yes, it’s the ACT. My new dentist asked me if I smoked, that’s how bad my teeth are stained! I just started using Carifree that I got on Amazon. It doesn’t have Cetylpyridinium chloride like ACT does (known to stain teeth in some people) but has the same % of flouride. It’s also not artificially colored, which I like.
Sorry Dr Phillips but I followed your complete system religiously for 6 months between cleanings at the dentist. I had high hopes for a great exam, no plaque and high fives all around. Unfortunately I was told I had horrendous staining and was scraped and gouged and polished for a full hour. Also told I had plaque below the gum line for first time ever. Only difference was not in what I ate or drink, so assume it was the Act mouth rinse that caused the staining. Not using it again anytime soon.
Bummer. I'm about to start the system and now you've gotten me concerned that it won't be good for me. There are so many positive testimonials though too. I don't know what to believe 😔
@@YesPlease1Evaluate the evaluator. Why does all that crap start with either faithfully or religiously word? Plaque under gum line for the first time ever - obvious BS - we all get that. Staining is a known issue of lousy brushers. So you can safely assume that the person tried to follow the protocol but missed some pieces which didn't do any harm anyways
Thank you for the information! I’ve always heard so many negative things about fluoride - what are your thoughts on this? Particularly, the negative neurological effects of fluoride.
Some say don't use mouthwash immediately after brushing because it will take away the fluoride. Others say rinse with water because fluoride is toxic. Others say don't rinse with anything. Just spit the toothpaste and let it there for 30 minutes. Others say mouthwash is for the lazy people that don't have time to brush, which is all you need. Sorry but with that amount of controversy how could I trust a specific procedure?
Quoting Dr. Ellie as to why you rinse your mouth out with listerine and not water after the Crest: I am recommending rinsing toothpaste out WITH the Listerine, and then immediately using ACT after the Listerine. The reason for this is that Crest Cavity Protection toothpaste with nothing added is made with silica and contains sodium fluoride. The silica releases sodium fluoride to the tooth surface quickly during brushing. This protective layer prevents acidic Listerine from damaging the tooth surface while it is doing your “liquid flossing” and removing plaque between your teeth. Squish the Listerine quickly in and out between your teeth (this will remove any residual toothpaste also). Spit out and then you are ready for the ACT.
Why not just give it a shot and see if you notice improvements? If you don't see results or don't like don't do it. I can say , that she clearly has lots of experience and knowledge, so her opinion seems credible to me, and for me it's worth trying because my current tooth care is doing it for me.
@@Miquiztli_tochtli To be honest this is what I was thinking is the best way to go. Try the method and see how it works on yourself specifically. Thanks.
Thanks Dr Ellie. I can see from other comments that you say Colgate Flourigard is an alternative to ACT; but Flourigard has glycerin in it, is this not bad for the teeth or gums?
Dr Ellie, I am very impressed with your videos and advice...My Grandpa was a Dentist he passed in 1970's...I have ordered your book KISS YOUR DENTIST GOODBYE, I have ordered all exact products, I ordered Zeĺlies gum(I couldnt find the mints in Spearmint-so I got gum)I plan to try & work up to from Listerine Cool Mint to Original!! I had a dental appt a year ago & they said I needed a deep cleaning, but my insurance wouldn't cover it.They wouldn't do any cleaning at all saying doing a little cleaning when I needed a deep one, that would take 2 hours-long appointments over a period of 2 weeks half on one day & weeks later the other half..So I didn't even get the little cleaning that would've been covered...I have an appointment in a month(with a new dentist), they will see my records & we will see what 1 month on your system does to improve things!! I am excited to see!!😂❤Thankyou for putting this info out
Just a bit concerned about the sodium fluoride, it’s a recognised neurotoxin, and toxic byproduct of industry, which lowers IQ at the very least, followed by skeletal fluorosis in larger doses, please research the antics of the ALCOA. Thanks for the info about xylitol though
It doesn't lower IQ. I used fluoride up until age 30 and my IQ was tested and found to be 164. When I started using the natural fluoride free toothpaste is when all my problems began with cavities. Ask yourself this- if fluoride really lowered IQ then why is Dr. Ellie so freakin smart? She is more articulate than anyone else I have heard in ages. And if fluoride caused skeletal fluorosis why does she look vigorous and not like she is having bone pain? Maybe you should consider the holistic health community that pushes alternative products might be as much a fraudulent money-making industry as Big Pharmas is accused of. I had only 1 cavity in first 38 years of life until I first gave us fluoridated toothpaste and then a few years later gave up original Listerine after the media insisted alcohol was dangerous in mouth wash. I gave up Crest and then Listerine and that is when suddenly I started getting cavities like crazy despite flossing, using electric brush and water pik.
While large amounts of fluoride can be dangerous, it's very difficult to reach toxic levels with properly fluoridated water and over-the-counter products that contain fluoride.
Don’t rinse Act off. It’s a wash to remineralize your teeth. It would beat the purpose and lose money on a product you’re not using correctly. Xylitol rebalances the pH of your mouth while strengthening your teeth. Immediately consume it after your meal, you’ll taste and feel a difference.
ACT is not available in France 🇫🇷 what can we replace it with ? … in the meantime , can we use the Closys a second time after we use the listerine ? thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you Dr. Ellie, I'm from the Philippines, and cant get a hand of ACT. Would you perhaps recommend Listerine's Total Care Cavity Protect Mild Taste Mouthwash (Alcohol-Free)? Has sodium flouride, xylitol and zero % alcohol. I think it's only in SEA countries now, cant find it in Amazon US. It's the one with sky blue color in picture, but the mouthwash itself is clear so no coloring as well.
Hello Dr. Ellie, Thank you for the detailed outline on the mouth care system. I am starting to follow it. I have a question about how many times to do this. I brush twice a day. Should I be doing these steps both times? Asking specifically because the ACT mouthwash has 1X daily usage mentioned on the bottle. So, I am wondering if I do all these steps only once a day, perhaps at night? Or it is safe to do it both times, Thanks in advance!
Thank you for your reccomendations! I am starting your Complete Mouth Care System and trying to locate all the necessary items. I live in a small city in the south of France. So far I have not found ACT mouthwash. Is there anything else I could use or know the major ingredients to look for in another brand? Thank you so much for your help!!
I think maybe the biggest current concern I have is that I’m wearing plastic retainers atm and I can’t afford not to rinse off any product that contains dyes so I always make sure to do so thoroughly. I wonder how much would that affect the effectiveness of the treatment
After you use my system - you could wait ten minutes and have a Zellie mint before putting the retainer back in your mouth. This is actually what I recommend to people with night guards or with a dry mouth for any reason. The Zellie mint will stimulate your own saliva flow - which will wash the rinses away but leave your saliva on your teeth to mineralize them. Water washes minerals and all the benefits away. Stimulating saliva flow will allow this mineralizing liquid to work its magic on your teeth - inside the retainer....a really great idea :)
I saw that sorbitol was an ingredient in the listerine cool mint. But you recommended we didnt chew gum with sorbitol in it? Any reasons why its fine for one and not the other? Thank you :)
On Amazon, in the information down the page of the Crest toothpaste, the first Inactive Ingredient is sorbitol, also. EDIT: And sorbitol is an inactive ingredient for the 0 Alcohol Anticavity ACT. The ACT contains A Lot of other things I have avoided and seem controversial ( and that is the product that is supposed to stay coating your mouth without rinsing, eating or drinking, for about a half hour!) such as Cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC). propylene glycol, sodium saccharine, "EDTA is recognized as a calcium-blocking agent", etc. I'm thinking it's covered by one of her videos, ( I watched several about the whole program in one day so don't recall which one) she was mainly talking about fluoride, but also mentioned green dye and iirc, sorbitol, and said something like it's an imperfect world and she can't control all the ingredients -- that these products are only in your mouth (mucous membranes that can absorb medicines!) for such a very short time, she accepts the trade off, and has used these specific ones for years with good results. But I have big problems with that ACT.
@dl7596 hoping i find a video of where she covers why it's okay to used sorbitol in these products but wanted us to stay away from it in gum. There's always so much contradicting information out there. That fluoride and all these other ingredients are so bad for us. It feels impossible to know what's actually helpful to our bodies!
It is so stupid to see inattentive people questioning someone on smth. The doctor said to avoid consuming sorbitol since some alternative xylitol gums and mints may contain it. You are not supposed to consume toothpaste nor mouthwash
Hi. I’m struggling to obtain act in uk at an affordable price. The ultra dex in the UK has fluoride(sodium monofluorosphate) at 230 ppm. Could I substitute ultra dex instead of act for the final rinse please?
Thank You so much Dr. Ellie. I have just bought your system. I have watched many videos if yours, including the one on your whole system. I don't think you mentioned how long to rinse with Listerine and ACT respectively? I would really appreciate if you could tell me. Best wishes 🇦🇺
You want to use Listerine just until it feels "hot/ spicy" in your mouth. This may be just a few seconds - but if you are doing fine with it ...never longer than 60 seconds. If the time is short - it is still useful - and should be used full strength. Use the ACT for a similar time - to "match" the Listerine step. What most people find is that for a week or two the time intervals may be short = the rinse feels hot quickly. But once the mouth has developed a healthy biofilm - your tolerance will increase and you will suddenly be surprised at how easy the rinsing is. Never force or try to speed this process - it is self defeating - because this is all about your current situation and modulating it gently to health. Even after you find you can go 60 seconds easily...if you are ever sick, stressed or your immune system is down for some reason - you may revert back to the shorter rinsing. This is a great way to monitor changes in your oral health.

I was thinking at the time - maybe four or five years....then ten...then twenty ...now it is 45 years :)
I continued to get evaluations frequently and did lots of bacterial testing during that time.
I even won an "oral health competition" in 2015 comparing oral health among a group of doctors and dentists....it's quite amusing.

There’s a book called “[Cu]re Your Fatigue" by Morley Robbin’s where he discusses having a proper balance of copper, magnesium and iron. A day’s recap :
when you wake up, your mouth is acidic.
Cheers!

Hey Dr. Ellie, do you wash out your mouth with water before going to sleep after using the ACT rinse, or do you not want to do that?

Hi Dr Ellie. Sorry one more question. Do you have an Australian equivalent for Zellies 100% Xylitol gum or mints please? I don't think its available in Australia. Thank you.
Go to a health food shop. They have xylitol gum.
I’m in Australia search for healthykiwis buy online
Healthy Kiwis
I use Epic gum, made in the US. It's very good.
I went against my knowledge about those additives and tried it, my sons ADHD went crazy with those food dyes. My gut was right.
Yeah I'm not taking those nor letting the kids around dyes either. Glad you figured it out though.
Very clear but I still haven’t managed to understand if cool mint listerine antiseptic is the same as cool mint listerine which is not labelled antiseptic ?
Good question.
It may differ from market to market. Check ingredients list, it should have alcohol and should not have zinc

In the video description the doctor shared her resources. Starting her complete mouth care system will reduce teeth sensitivity and you will have to stop Sensodyne to allow normal teeth remineralization
I started her program over a month ago and my teeth are considerably less sensitive now :)
Hi Dr. Ellie, I just found you and can’t wait to start your system. QUESTION: I have bad plaque. Should I get a professional cleaning to remove and proceed with your system? Or will your system eventually remove it naturally? Lastly, thank you for your passion and dedication! ❤️
Start first and have a dental cleaning in a month or two - it will be much easier for the dentist and for you :)

Also on the Zero bottle (which I have) there are no percentage breakdowns given of the ingredient that you stated the mouthwash needed in order to be effective.

Listerine zero has no alcohol in it. The cool mint has alcohol in it. According to the companies own website the cool mint reduces plaque and gum disease and the zero doesn't do either of those.

@DrElliePhillips I bought the correct smaller size Act. However a main ingredient is sorbitol. I take it this is a non-issue.

Dr Phillips, I would love to hear your thoughts on CariFree Treatment Anti-cavity Flouride mouthwash, because based on your recommendations, it seems to fit the bill for the perfect post-brushing rinse as it also has a high pH, unlike either Listerine or ACT. Their website says it is anti-microbial, anti-cavity, remineralizing and pH-balancing.
Active Ingredients: .05% Sodium Fluoride when mixed
Inactive Ingredients: Menthol, Natural Flavors, Polysorbate 20, Sodium Benzoate, Water, Xylitol
Listerine and ACT are made by leading pharmaceutical companies and have proven clinical studies behind them. You did not listen to what doctor says.

No. It is not tested for efficiency.

If you are interested to learn more about the difference between planktonic and biofilm bacteria - my book Mouth Care Comes Clean is an explanation of the mouths biochemistry in simple language.
I just looked at the ingredients in these oral probiotics and the zinc can cause nasty reactions and sensitivity.

Fluoride is TOXIC.! Avoid at all cost
Quoting Dr. Ellie as to why you rinse your mouth out with listerine and not water after the Crest:
I am recommending rinsing toothpaste out WITH the Listerine, and then immediately using ACT after the Listerine.

Or it is safe to do it both times,
Thanks in advance!
You should do it at least 2 times daily but not more than 3. Don't consult labels as everything is told in the video
For the ACT do we swish it like the listerine or just hold in the mouth and tilt head gently?
It’s a mouth wash to remineralize your teeth. Shish away :)
Colgate Fluorigard. Does iherb ship to France?
appreciate if you could advice if can i use Zero Listerine which does not contain alcohol, you didn't mention Zero in you video
Not the same formula. Only “cool mint” (doesn’t have alcohol) or “original”.

@@dr.elliephillips Thank You so much for the time and effort You put into your responses and into looking after our teeth Dr. Ellie. I absolutely love your passion and your admirable intentions - it shows! I think You are a wonderful human and making such a contribution to our health with your system you have finetuned and shared with us. I trust You (and your knowledge of pH 😁) and am going to follow it strictly.
@@ttephi3667 I appreciate your confidence in me and I want to tell you that my family practice what I preach.
I have used this system for over 40++ years and you may know that I have not had a dental cleaning since then.
My kids and grandkids are all on this system - so they are the forth generation using it.
My Mom was the first - saving her teeth from the forceps - and retaining them for 50 years until she died at age 95.
My grandkids are now turning into teens - and not A SINGLE decayed tooth between the eight of them.......
@@dr.elliephillipsHard to believe your grand kids don't eat a lot of sugar following it with a soda )
@@LoyolaMan Honestly crackers with sparkling water today can be almost as damaging - at least to teeth.
My grandkids are certainly not sugar or candy averse - but they do understand how to eat xylitol for preventive benefit.
Do you know that I was the owner of a dessert restaurant in Rochester NY at one point in my career - famous for desserts and chocolates? (I opened it when I was waiting for my dental license to arrive back in 1984). That may seem ironic - but it is actually not.
Hi. What is your opinion on Risewell or Boka toothpaste? Thanks!!
she doesn't like that nano stuff.
