"Why do you think Slavery is immoral?"
"Because it deprives people of... *Realises he's countering his own argument* ...it's involuntary."
He _wasn't_ countering his own argument, though. Choices are only involuntary if the alternative is death and he said as much, in this debate. The reason why this makes sense is because you can no longer make choices when you are dead, whereas you can when you are alive, however limited your options may be.
@@77Night77Shade77 Gotcha, so torturing someone until they do what you say *isn't* involuntary because you're not killing them. Literally anything that isn't murder (drugging someone, threatening their friends or family, surgically removing limbs, and so on) doesn't count as coercion.
It's almost as if. . . there's more nuance to threats, coercion, or violence than literally killing people

the decreased crime in the 90s was throughout all of the western world, so policing was absolutely not part of it
Yes it was, if policing didn’t change the go to response for riots today would still be to open fire with both rubber and live ammunition.
Fyi we also have incidents were riots were met with gun bayonets.
If policing hadn’t changed there would be far more deaths directly correlated to policing action.
Also followed by a drop in lead pollution
@@draconisthewyvern3664 That's not what is being said. You're talking about changes in police tactics, which isn't related to what's being discussed necessarily.
What's being claimed is that crime, especially violent crime is on the decline. This doesn't have anything to do specifically with the "American Police" otherwise it wouldn't be a "Global Trend" in "Western Societies".
☠DE=ATH☠ globally there were police reforms happening, technology also advanced quite a lot since the 80s and 90s
@@draconisthewyvern3664 Policing refers to the degree of which laws are enforced. Not the tactics or weapons they use to enforce them. Also there's no correlation between these change in tactics/weapons and the drop in crime. As everywhere dropped regardless of changes in tactics or whether or not they needed to respond to riots in the first place. So wrong on every front, good job I guess.

TheSickGman09 I think it was more like he assumed Vaush would be able to say more than just “its part of socioeconomics” which is such a vast category. If you had to debate wether being a four legged animal or bipedal was better, and one guy just kept saying “it’s biology...” that’s not a good debate
@@sheerdumbluck you didnt watch the video huh
TheSickGman09 no, I did
@@sheerdumbluck @Shawn Gladue From 9-12 minutes Vaush goes over some of the socioeconomic factors. Slavery, Jim Crow, redlining mean higher likelihood of poverty which translates into higher crime rates means over policing mean more crimes are reported means more over policing leading to where he points out the argument that a lot of poor black people don't have fathers because they're arrested from that over policing. I literally just started this video and it doesn't seem like he's just says "it's socioeconomics" over and over, and I'm also just paraphrasing. You can argue whether or not those points or any of his other points are valid, but he doesn't just leave it at saying "it's part of socioeconomics".
Matthew Patterson he does later on in the video. Wait for when AJW says “wait... so you’re just going to say everything is socioeconomics.” And his points aren’t very good. More police doesn’t create more crime which creates more police. The police spreading is based solely on police reports. Not crimes. So the real answer to less police in areas is for the locals to just not ever tell the police any crime happened. Which we can agree, is a stupid thing to do.
"It's fine guys you can just choose to be poor"
If you live in the woods and don’t work to find food you die.. society functions the same. Exactly how much of other people stuff do you think you’re entitled to if you don’t want to work
@really dude - Ok. Who's going to provide those necessities? Other people?
Ok. How are those other people going to acquire those necessities? Other other people?
And how do those other other people acquire those necessities? Through magic/on trees? Or work?
And if no one decides to do the work, what happens?
@@TychonAchae We can give enough necessities and people will still be motivated to work. There’s many reasons to work than just survival.
@@christopherlin4706 - That's besides the point. If people are motivated enough to work on their own, what's the problem? If people are 'entitled' to necessities, who's going to provide them? And to those that do? You haven't solved the problem, simply displaced it until you can't any more.
@@TychonAchae Well if you examine our current society, public, private, and hard work can all secure you necessity. But it isn’t necessary that all have to work to achieve necessity. If we provide basic necessities (or ability to buy them), people can devote their energies to higher-minded tasks. Yes it’s gonna involve the work of other people fit this to happen but it has always been this way, and as you admitted, there is no problem with that.
AJW: You want to FORCE people to adopt market socialism!
Vaush: It's better than what we have, Capitalism is very oppressive and forces people to sell their labor.
AJW: ....but you want to FORCE people-
That's it, that's 50% of the debate
All Vaush had to say was," You want to FORCE people to live beneath capitalism."
EdgieAlias but that’s not true. You can freely leave a capitalist system and go to a socialist one. The USA and other capitalist nations aren’t forcing you to stay
Vaush by His OWN STANDARDS EVEN IF every single business became a pure worker coop everyone would still be a wage slave because of the cohersive element of money. The only difference is you’re working for the so called collective.
The ONLY way this is not true is if money didn’t exist.
Secondly the most successful coops like Ace or Pizza Hut aren’t worker coops. They are owner coops. Aka franchises.
An even than, most coops include the consumer making them publicly traded.
The free market has already decided that pure worker coops doesn’t work.

A VAST majority of people get bank loans, which means they would need to have a good credit score, and for the lucky few who do manage to do it are people who have gotten help from others and prob live with other people so that they don't have too many bills to pay that would hinder their ability to actually start a business
vaush looked so excited to bring up the coconut island analogy again
Maybe he has a power feitish or something I don't kink shame
It is a fun analogy.
It's a terrible analogy. False equivalency all the way. You pretty much present it as if the person has no choice, but everyone in a Capitalistic system has plenty of choices in a free market. Your narrow perception of your own complacency makes it seem like you have a false choice, but nothing could be further from the truth. We all have a choice to pave our own path. You just have to have the vision and take action to actually do it. Most people just put their ideas in motion, but rarely put it into action. That's why Socialists just want things to be handed to them without earning anything, because that's easier than the hard work it takes to have things.
@@ohman2784 ok I'm gonna give you another example that relates to real life situations since you're brain isnt capable to applying analogies to real life. Say I'm you're boss and you're the hardest working employee in the store. And you're hey we deserve a raise and you attempted to unionize and go on a strike but everytime you do your either threatened to get fired or you're co-workers get fired. Pretty fucked up power dynamics ya know. But theoretically you could just get a new job but who's to say that job will be better or worse ,how many hours will I get,do they have health benefits for full time workers ,will I be a full time worker, will I be a full time worker but working part time hours so i won't get health benefits if my job has them? That's something that goes through the minds of millions of workers daily. The coconut anology is basically talking about a hierarchy in the workplace issue where the common worker basically has no say over anything
@@l3gacy_-nitro241 Your real life situation/example changes nothing about how worthless and disingenuous the "coconut analogy" is. Even in your argument you admitted that you have a choice, to get a different job. Right then and there, the analogy is automatically dog shit. You make a cute analogy and even put a homophobic sexual spin on it for shock value, but in that situation, someone simply hoarded all the damn coconuts...
Now I'm just going to flip it on you and explain how the stupid stranded on an island/coconut analogy ACTUALLY looks like if you were to even be halfway fair in portraying our current monetary and Capitalist economic system:
I can assure you in the free market, no one, not Bill Gates, not Jeff Bezos, not Elon Musk has all the world's "coconuts"... Sure, they have a lot of them, but many small businesses and private enterprises have their own stack of coconuts off to the side... Sure, several big corporations that own seemingly "everything" have giant stacks of coconuts, but they do not have all of them. What happens is, when your plane crashes and you get to the island, it isn't just two people that are stuck. It's more complicated than to just dumb it down to the "Haves" and the "Have nots". That's the flaw in the analogy that my brain doesn't really like... is that you simplified it so much, that you created a false equivalency that isn't even based on reality, so your real life situation doesn't even apply to the damn analogy! You can't make an analogy basically saying the worker has no choice when the worker or private individual has many, many, MANY choices in this society... Presenting it as if they have no choice because they need to survive, therefore they must submit to their master is just mellow dramatic for no reason.
In a more paralleled analogy, if one of the big stack hoarders was asking you to give them head, then you'd just walk over to another dude with a stack that might be a little smaller, and they might ask you to help them, or carry them so that you earn one coconut to take back to your fire camp. Then, if you do a good job, they'll ask you to help them again the next day, before you know it, you're hired.
You're so good at carrying coconuts, but you feel like you've been carrying coconuts better than others, so you deserve a raise... but why does everyone else in a collective union deserve a raise, too? You are the one carrying more coconuts everyday. Let's say you carry 10 coconuts a day, and 3 other guys carry 3 or 4. Maybe one other carries 6 or 8. Does that mean that you all equally should be paid? If the guy that was in control of the stack of coconuts, or who owned of a certain amount of the trees, he would have the incentive to pay YOU more, because you are a more valuable worker. One other guy is decent, and 2 of the others aren't really pulling their weight... but let's say he decides to give you all raises fairly. Let's say he lets YOU take home 3 coconuts, and let's the other take 2, and the two other guys who don't carry too many per day, get to take one... That's based on performance and work ethic. Who thinks that every coconut carrier should get to take an equal amount?
Then, what you're saying, is that a coconut stack hoarder, he hires 4 people to carry them, too, but he doesn't want to give any of them raises, and those 4 see other carriers getting raises, so they form a union and bargain with the stack hoarder to pay them more or they'll strike or quit. Their union is only as strong as their solidarity. They all have the ability to quit and carry for someone else, but instead of striking, 3 of them keep carrying, but 1 of them actually strikes... They have a weak union... If they all strike, and the hoarder doesn't agree, they should all quit and work for someone else...
See, you've presented it in a way where there isn't a choice, but there's always a choice, and there's the value that people place on their labor. If you feel you are worth more, then find someone that'll pay you what you're worth. Forcing the hoarder to create a CoOp isn't the answer. Not everyone works equally. Not everyone deserves a raise. Some people are lazy and if they just get raises without having to go the extra mile, then where's the incentive to do better and improve? There is none. That is why Capitalism is far superior to any other system.

@@brandon9172 Potholer doesn't talk about it much but he's alluded to having conservative leanings for years. I've actually wanted to see Vaush's opinions on the videos you mentioned for quite some time too.
Ajw whole argument is to hold all trans people hostage to go through agonizing puberty for the small number of people who might regret it puberty blockers and have diminishing side effects.
As we see it's like that, you're a kid who have gender disturbance and medical professionals diagnosed it as dysphoria and you're prescribed puberty blockers to determine and be sure before you start hormone therapy, there's 2 paths and 4 outcomes
1. 95% you do have gender dysphoria and puberty blockers saves you from agonizing puberty
2. 5% you're not and puberty blockers have minimal effects on you health
3. 95% you don't take puberty blockers and puberty hits hard and after the fact you start transitioning with all this baggage
4. 5% you don't take puberty blockers and you turn out fine having no issues at all
THIS IS TRANSPHOBIA he is holding non trans people at higher value than trans people and wanting to make sure non trans people are always better off going through the system even if that's mean that trans people are way way worse for it.
I just saw this debate after I find this Dingus and he seems to know how to iterate his points in a way that seems reasonable to the people who doesn't know the counter arguments but clearly it isn't as this debate clearly shows
Vaush's coconut analogy fails because it's a false dichotomy. It wrongly presupposes that there are *only* two options. The person on the island could choose to fish in the ocean, or go hunting on the island. An analogy needs to make sense in order to work, and in this case, it is so unrealistic that it simply doesn't work.
Edit: added "coconut" to the sentence and corrected a typo.
the shocking part is that this was the less insanely stupid debate you had that day
My brain is still in recovery mode from all the high level tankie ideas. Caleb Maupin is the smuggest human being I've ever seen.
I am sorry but I went full brain dead about a third way into listening to that thing. By the end he was so loud and obnoxious that my headphones were across the room and I could still hear him screaming. (My volume is really low during debates because of hearing issues).
Nah, it was VERY stupid!
I think this guy read more about studies with Vaush than he has on his own.
his "background in criminal justice" is watching yt videos
I agree with @Melesio Albavera, when u look at AJW's comment sections his fans think he won as well. I've been watching Vaush for some time, and definitely wasn't impressed by his performance here, think he came in too aggressive.
@Melesio Albavera his degree of stupidity is much higher
@Melesio Albavera vaush wasnt ill prepared. And he literally had to go in circles because no justice warrior wouldn't accept when he was wrong
@Melesio Albavera so he says.
this reminds me of when the libcap in my class said that it isn’t exploitation if a large corporation moves into a poor village and employs the local people for almost nothing (btw we were talking about Brazil) because the people agreed to work. i still have not recovered from that.
He was stupider here than when he called in
“well you can work and still be in poverty” ....so your choices are: poverty, or sell your labor AND poverty. yeah it’s definitely voluntary
Well if you work feeding pigs I guess you will not be a millionaire right?

Can we talk about how Vaushes ear is just perfectly built for earphones? I bet those things never fall out.
edit: I say "ear" because i dont think it has been fully confirmed that Vaush has two ears.
They're keloids and they apparently hurt really fucking bad, so I don't know if having them is a preferable tradeoff for being useful for earphones. You're probably right though.
@Kyle Peoples Im glad we had this conversation.
@@namelesscompadre4095 Thank you, i was really curious abt this tbh. I dont know though, dropping your earphones is really annoying..
@Chris Wittekind a keloid is not a cyst.
I had no idea what a keloid was, looked it up, and on Wikipedia it says that people of sub-Saharan African descent are more likely to have it over Europeans....so I have deduced...that vaush is indeed black.
This was the first video I ever saw by Vaush, been binge watching all his debates for the past week.
Vaush corners him. AJW pivots, Vaush corners him again, AJW pivots. Typical right wing argument style.
The sad fact is if you go to AJW's channel the audiences are like two ships passing in the night. His audience overwhelmingly thinks he won this, Vaush's audience overwhelmingly thinks Vaush won this. Just reinforces that I watch these videos for the lolz and not because these people can actually be reached. For every person Vaush brags about deradicalizing there is one sending the opposite message to AJW thanking him for saving them from the gay agenda or whatever bigoted, anti-intellectual and pseudo-scientific horseshit these people have fooled themselves into believing is legitimate.
I mean just the conversation alone about puberty blockers in this video demonstrates beyond a reasonable doubt that AJW is an anti-trans bigot. The studies were explained to him. They show the overwhelming majority of kids on puberty blockers go through with medical transition and approve of the results, the effects of puberty blockers are not statistically significantly harmful to those taking them, and this medical practice is approved of my medical associations throughout just about every nation in the developed world. His explanation for his opposition? Low sample size (even though they absolutely aren't for medical research on minority populations) and we need to protect the minority of a minority of kids from non-existent harms to the detriment of the overwhelming majority of those who need these medical treatments. Why? Because only those that are cisgendered deserve protection even if that protection is at odds with common medical practice and all available research. And his audience overwhelmingly thinks that makes him look like the winner of this exchange. I hate these people and hope they die brutally... in minecraft.
This is why the left has to do what the right does: Simplify our arguments to appeal to the masses, then we hit them with the deeper rhetoric. The left needs more outlets for our message in media, art, and in government. It's already happening slowly, and the more fucked up this country gets the faster it seems to go. BLM supporters are going crazy (rightfully so) after George Floyd, and they look to the left to create meaningful change. Same happened with LGBTQ people; they looked to the left to create meaningful change, and they did get it. The left is growing friend.
Dude, the bulk of the right in American politics can listen to someone telling a white supremacist group to "stand back and stand by," in a debate, they can watch someone representing their viewpoint be accused of lying in the middle of a debate and never directly answer the claim that they lied, over and over again, and can still come away feeling that they had the moral high ground in the discussion.
The bar for winning a debate in the eyes of someone that polarized is somewhere between "made them stutter and look around ashamed multiple times" and "made them completely lose it and end the debate early, while crying." The important thing is to have good discussions, for people who still have fully (or mostly) functional brains, even if that's a small percentage of the audience. Over time, with compound interest, good ideas can spread.
I just got back from AJW comment section, and it was exactly as you said. Everyone there think he won. Everyone here thinks Vaush won.
I think AJW says sensible things from time to time, but the things he said in this debate are simply crazy. Sad, even.
AJW: I have two criminal justice degrees.
Also AJW: There's no difference between private property and personal property, you made that up.
...guess he got his degrees form PragerU.
it's more like he didn't know what socioeconomic was. That's day one in criminology class.

8:20 My guy. The fact that when Vaush mentions Freddie Gray's death in a conversation about the overabundance of unarmed black men who've been killed dead by the police, your response is "Uhhh, which one was that again?" should speak absolute VOLUMES about the disturbing rate at which American police officers murder unarmed black men AND boys under HIGHLY dubious circumstances. ESPECIALLY considering the fact that this happened IMMEDIATELY after YOU brought up Michael Brown in that conversation, and VAUSH's response was "Uhhh, which one was that again?" I mean, jfc. The fact that this happens SO MUCH that it's getting quite difficult just to keep up with the ones that have been highly PUBLICIZED??? Come on, bro. What is you doin'?
For what it's worth, I've used the "slaves could have just killed themselves" meme several times in similar debates and it's slayed every time.
