The day Max Verstappen shocked the world

  • Max Verstappen has made his mark in Formula 1 in a massive way but his drive at the 2016 Brazilian Grand Prix is one that will forever stand out. During wet conditions at Interlagos, Max Verstappen would finish P3 in the race behind Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton but it wasn't a simple race. Max would spin on the straight and looked to be headed into the barrier, but miraculously saved it and was able to continue. After pitting for a set of wet tyres, he found himself P16. What followed was an overtaking masterclass. Finding grip where no other driver could, and passing anybody in his way. On that day, Max Verstappen silenced any doubters and proved how good he is even in the hardest conditions. Enjoy!

I grew up with F1 when I was a little boy and I've seen Senna, Schumi, Vettel etc. When we had the era Seb/Hamilton for me F1 became a bit boring also thanks to the rules. And then there was Max and yes people had there doubts, but from the first moment he showed us how great he was and showed us that he was WC material. I dare to say that Max was the biggest talent from the last 20 years and he also woke up F1 🙏🏻

It's crazy to me how there are people who still think he's not talented, he's washed and he's a gifted world champion. There's a lot of hate out there and it's such ashame. Max is one of the best drivers to watch like Alonso and Lewis. His ruthlessness, sheer speed and unapologetic nature is what we need in this sport to lift it up. I am so happy he has had a car to challenge for wins, 2021 will go down in the history books for all those amazing races from Lewis and Max. and to imagine a world where max doesn't exist 🤯.... I think we all need to be grateful for his existence 🤣

Different perspectives do exist bro . There are people who think Lewis is gifted 2008 championship and Felippe is robbed . Ofcourse there are People who think Nico deserved the 2014 Championship, like the opposite of what Lewis fans think about Nico's triumph in 2016 . Lewis was lucky in winning the 2017 championship which Seb deserved more .
Many people consider Alonso's 2010 & 2012 seasons are greater achievement than Lewis' achievements with Mercedes Benz in Turbohybrid era . Seb has won more titles than Fernando , Is he greatest than Fernando??
Alonso won fewer titles than Lewis , Isn't He the greatest than Lewis ??
Lots and Lots of perspectives exists. The same thing works for Max . People will surely have different narratives on a single subject.

People say that either because they’re new fans who doesn’t know what they’re talking about or they said it outta spite from Verstappen fans saying the very same things to drivers that got in Verstappen’s way, like Vettel and Hamilton. When Vettel crashed, Verstappen fans cheered and mocked his legacy. When Hamilton struggled, Verstappen fans did the same. Competitive hardcore fans love to return the very favor the opposing fans did to them and their favorite drivers, and the cycle will continue til the end of time.

Those are different from dry lines") but almost impossible to pull off in real life, with a f1 car. Yet Verstappen pulled it off. I've come to understanding it's more common in a cart. It takes exceptional skill to controll a f1 car like it's a cart. The same with all the spins-turning-to-360s he makes. In the beginning you think he got lucky. But he's been doing it now so consistently, you can't put it all on luck anymore. The only other driver who was comparable in driving skills that I know of was Senna.

I have just watched the race again, and his safe on the straight, just before the Raikönen incident, was immensely impressive as well. What a drive, from 16th to 3 in about 13 laps. Wow! Wow!
He showed what a special and unique talent he then was (and still is) at only 19 years old and only in his second season in F1. He drove around more experienced drivers as if they were driving in a lower category. Chapeau! Hats off (like Niki Lauda once again did when bumping into Max's father after the race).

Brazil 2016 was such a crazy race from Max. Made the field look like amateurs.
I felt bad for Hulk though as he was in a position where he could fight for the podium but got a puncture under the safety car that sent him to the back of the field. Still was able to claw his way back to 7th but it should have been so much more.

Talent of the century. Max is one of the greats that was destined since his karting days, in karting you get drivers winning multiple championships like Max did, what you don't see is others doing it the way Max did it! Total domination exactly like he is doing now in F1, that's not normal.
Max RB19 car is a special car and other drivers could win the championship on it, but one thing is certain with Max as their team mate their fight for the championship will be over by the summer pause!

Remember that it was one race why Helmut wanted to have Max driving for RB, that was Norrisring in 2014 where Max in the wet was lapping seconds faster per lap then anyone else. He then said, we need that guy, a few weeks later they pulled him just out of the jaws of the Wolff and 3 weeks later they decided to put him straight in F1. This to the horror of a lot of experienced drivers but one…. Alonso never had a problem with it.

He and Hamilton were in a class of their own that day. If I remember right they were the only drivers who were habitually taking the really wide line around the Curva do Sol (Turn 3) while virtually everyone else tended to stick nearer the normal racing line. But while Hamilton was barely troubled up front Verstappen for sure stole the show with his drive. From mugging Rosberg around the outside of Curva do Sol to that save to his charge up the field in the final stint. I think this was the race he properly announced himself as a star of the future. Yes we'd seen flashes in 2015 and in 2016 thus far, but Brazil was perhaps his most polished performance up to that point.
