The fact that it’s a KIA doesn’t make a difference. There is a lot to like. I want one bad!

    • @MrOlddave
      @MrOlddave 4 роки тому +2

My biggest dislike is the front bumper. There is a plastic piece under the bumper that sticks out just waiting to be broken. Anyone parallel parking that bumps your car will break it and I'll bet its fragile and expensive to fix. Why decent bumpers are getting hard to find is beyond me.

    • @innovativethoughts

The vehicles has cool tech features but they are cheaply made hunk of junk. It look like they based it off the Land Rover and Range Rover. This is just my opinion. It's not worth the price in which they sells them for. It a v6 with cool tech. However, it's not a good company to their employees either. You would think they will pay people a fair wage. However people still work there because making some money is better than making no money. I just thought I may add that... but anyways back to the Telluride, it's a lot of computers and electronics such as the e brake. This is the electronic parking brake with is on some of the suv crossover. If your vehicle have a push button start then you'll find that it will be difficult for you to let the window up if the vehicle is not started or let the window down. Not good in case of emergency and you need a quick way to get the window up or down. It has a lot of leg space tho. It's gonna cost to fix all the electronics when it goes bad. It's a lot of stuff to go bad. They offer a heated steering wheel. Heated and air cool seats. Cameras and sensors every where. Then it's a Kia. They make it look nice and fill it up with a lot of tech but, it's not well made. I do not know the crash safety rating but I think it will fall apart if in a collision. It's made of plastic and thin metal so that's my take on this vehicle.

@kurt franklin to each it's own. Every company can't satisfy everyone, And everyone doesn't has to work for a company if they are not satisfied working there. With that being said, the good the bad and the ugly is still with the reviews.

    • @PrimeAutotainment

It’s been a while since I drive the Telluride, but both were very comfortable riding vehicles. At the time I had the Palisade, I thought that was maybe softer...but looking back I think the Telluride had a slightly better ride. The structure of the vehicle is nearly identical but I’m pretty sure they use some different suspension components

alexandergoldma I agree ... I have a 2006 Range Rover, it’s paid for and I love everything about it, but my husband has been talking about looking for something newer since the mileage is getting up there at this point. The Telluride is the first newer SUV I’ve seen that comes close to the styling and size of a newer Range Rover without the hefty price tag.

Got my wife a Stinger GT1 the next day. Added 10 year 150K bumper to bumper on both and now set for retirement vehicles. The stinger blows the 2017 Alfa Giulia I had in the weeds. Pierre Leclercq has taken both companies to new highs. Good on them and we the consumer win.

For sure! I can't say from experience with the Telluride - but my wife and I test-drove it's cousin, the Palisade, and the comfort mode was very smooth and enjoyable but the minute I switched it to sport, that transmission was much more sharp and aggressive. Sometimes I didn't always like the way it responded but you could definitely tell that there was a difference between the two modes and that it wasn't just for show.
I didn't test out this day-to-day experience on that test drive but I'm sure when switching the mode to sport that it could provide a little added help if you wanted to pass someone on the highway - especially in those cases where you come up behind a semi and get stuck in the right lane. Not saying it's going to win any performance awards but I like that they didn't just throw those rotary modes in the middle console to give the illusion that you make some minor changes to how the vehicle drives - they do make a difference.

My personal favorite feature is the intercom for the back row but so far its been a great vehicle.

Okay, so my vehicle GMC Acadia is almost paid off (in 2 months) which I absolutely love, I shopped around for a few weeks until I found a mid size suv with 3rd row seating, captain chairs in the middle & good leg room, also good cargo space in the back of all seats had to be used, 5 years ago the Acadia was the best in my opinion. But with my 5 year warranty coming to an end my husband is pushing me to begin looking for another vehicle. So today I went on a hunt for pretty much the same “must haves” in my vehicle, I literally just texted him, & said “I never thought I would say this, but I like the Kia Telluride”
I love the look of the Range Rover but it just isn’t roomy enough for me so I couldn’t get it with still having to tote around 3 kids. I am very impressed, so I’ll have to see this car in person. From the looks of it online it may be a great option.

    A few comments, Nolan...
() Resistance to the KIA Brand. Thank God there are still some folks out there (mainly living under rocks) who continue to proclaim, "Yeah, but it's a KIA." If it weren't for them the massive demand for the Telluride would be even worse and the waiting lines for vehicle, especially the top SX trim, would be even longer. KIA planned for production of 41,000 Tellurides in the first year of production. They've sold over half that number in the first four months of availability. And the situation for the SX trim is even worse. When KIA dealers placed their orders they seriously underestimated the demand by customers willing to pay over $45,000 for a top trim Telluride. KIA responded to those orders and initially focused production on lower level trims. Even now with the plant in Georgia running at full capacity they can't keep up with demand.
() Limited features and options on various trim levels. Every manufacturer designs their vehicles to meet particular price points. They do so in different ways. European manufacturers and to a somewhat lesser extent American and Japanese brands advertise relatively low "starting from" prices and then offer pages and pages of individual options that can be ordered on a particular vehicle. You can probably order an Audi, a BMW,, a Benz, or a Lexus in purple with a pink interior . Want a choice of a half dozen different wheel designs and three different wheel sizes? No problem. Have to have a sunroof or hate a sunroof? Your choice. Want to choose among two, three, or more engines? The list goes on and on. The result is a perfectly tailored vehicle with just about everything you want and almost nothing you don't.
The downside of all that choice is cost, not just for an individual consumer who sees a price balloon as the boxes are checked but to the manufacturer's production costs in purchasing smaller numbers of components from third party vendors and to dealers who end up with units with less popular (or without more popular) options sitting on lots for longer periods. That increases costs across the board for manufacturers, dealers, and consumers.
KIA has a different approach. They bundle a large set of features at each trim level and offer only a few packages and even fewer individual options within each level. In fact, color choices are more limited in the highest SX trim than in lower trims and the only packages available are a low cost towing package and a bundle of features in the "Prestige" package. KIA's approach reduces overall production costs and limits the number of unsold vehicles (especially at higher trim levels) sitting on dealer lots until they're finally sold at even steeper discounts than usual.
The approach is also relevant to Nolan's complaint about the second row seating configurations. Their research apparently suggested that customers interested in the top SX trim were more affluent, have smaller families at home, and are more likely to cross shop more premium vehicles where captain chairs in the second row are more common. Therefore, they made the bench seats standard in the mid-level EX trim and the captain chairs standard in the SX. (The lowest "S" trim also has captain chairs as standard but have a $100 option for a bench seat.) In this case I suspect KIA will introduce a bench seat option for the SX in the next model year but the demand for the SX trim has been so great that I also suspect they're in no hurry to increase demand for a model they're already struggling to meet.
Nolan doesn't like the fact that only the top trim Telluride has LED headlights. KIA could have made them standard on all trim levels. But to do so would likely have meant either dropping some other standard feature or increasing the cost of those trims. And in lower trims, a competitive MSRP is even more important than for higher trims. So what would you give up, Nolan?
By the way, the complaint that the Telluride doesn't offer "bending" headlights stems I think from the vertical stacking of the headlights. My Sorento has the feature and I was surprised to see it lacking on the Telluride. But my headlights are in a horizontal configuration and only the outside headlights swivel. I suspect adding the feature on the Telluride would have meant diminishing the coverage of the headlights pointing straight ahead. That would likely NOT be acceptable as you go around a curve.
() Fuel Efficiency. Historically, KIA (and Hyundai) have been challenged in terms of fuel efficiency. To deal with that issue in the Telluride KIA installed a relatively large 3.8L naturally aspirated V6 running the Atkinson cycle, a design that sacrifices performance to some extent while improving mileage. The result is an EPA rating of 19/24/21. Not great but the combined city/highway mileage is only 1 mpg less than a Honda Pilot with a smaller V6 (3.5L) and one more than the Sorento with a half liter smaller (3.3L also NA) V6.
The Explorer, Ascent, and CX-9 have EPA combined ratings of 23 mpg with their turbo 4 cylinder engines in AWD configurations. But that 2 mpg advantage comes with a couple of caveats. First, smaller displacement turbos typically have a tougher time meeting their EPA ratings than larger NA engines. For example, Ascent owners report to the EPA that their combined mileage is 17.5 mpg's, far short of the 23 combined mpg from EPA testing. Disciplining one's right foot with a turbo is a challenge. Second, turbo 4's can be tuned to provide performance equal to larger NA V6's but physics is physics and the stress put on a small displacement turbo 4 in a vehicle weighing well over two tons is arguably an issue of long term durability to be weighed against a small advantage in fuel efficiency.
() Performance. KIA's decision to offer neither a 4 cylinder turbo option nor a "performance" V6 version of the Telluride is another example of limiting choices in the interest of containing costs. They're aiming for the "sweet spot" in terms of customer priorities in a midsize crossover with relatively good fuel efficiency and durability trumping choices with relatively low "take rates." Those looking for scalding performance from a stop light will have to look elsewhere but KIA is fine with that. And those who want significantly better fuel efficiency can look at an Explorer hybrid. But it will take longer than a buyer is likely to own the vehicle to recoup the price difference between a top trim Telluride and a less fully featured Explorer (or Highlander) hybrid.
() Bottom Line. Nolan's list of dislikes is relatively minor as he suggests. And he had to strain to come up with five. Lots of consumers apparently agree.

However we do on occasion like to load it full of grandkids. This vehicle was what the wife insisted on and all decisions on colors were hers. I must admit it’s handsome and while I’m not much on green period, this Dark Moss is so Dark, you need a sunny day to bring out the green which looks olive to me but admittedly is beautiful, Drives great and after doing the first oil change, not a difficult task like other makes and models and I’m probably a bit of on oddity in that I refuse to own anything that I can’t fully service myself such as oil changes, 4,wheelers, to Harley’s to even tractors I do all my own maintenance. Anyway I think the wife made a prudent choice, and sometimes she lets me drive!

The infotainment has never worked properly, brake and suspensions last as long as a politicians promise, handbrake failed, rear air con failed, many issues with tyre sensors, service light comes on even though you've just had a service ... that thing is a pile of junk

46 K fully loaded? In Northern Calif. where I live the dealership wanted 56K , a 10K matk up above MSRP just because is the novelty .

Dang that’s ridiculous. I’ve heard of that happening almost everywhere though which is a shame. Definitely wait a while to buy one if they keep doing that

Nice car, but no way in hell I am paying 5k over retail at 55k for a kia telluride!!
There greed will be there downfall if quality doesn't hold up and thats the big question.
Sure you can add every feature and perks in the book; however, it just means more gadgets and gimmicks that could go wrong...

Yeah but that rarely happens with Asian cars. Germans cars are the ones that break constantly.

Just put down a payment for mine to be built. SX Nightfall in Wolf Grey. Glad to hear that two out of your 5 dislikes have been corrected. LEDs and 7 seating now come in Nightfall models. However, 6-8 month wait ... 😞
PS They also include a 3 yr 30k bumper to bumper warranty as well. So three standard warranties now.
