There's a used Evil Undead with an inverted fork and a front Hope 6 piston brake. If the stars aling and the issue on my Demo 8 is esentially unfixable for me i may just end up with it, it's just too cool a thing to look at from a parts prespective
I LOVE watching these races. Honestly, I love watching ALL your videos! But its also nice to hear The Great Dale Stone huff and puff up the climbs ;). Glad to know you're a human, too! Keep up the good work, and lets hear more about the Deviate!
I've been riding lewis lh4 for the last 5 months. They're really good so far, no huge issues except that they were kinda finnicky to bleed when i was first learning.
You also got leaky Shimano calipers lol. Shimano could be pretty good if they just went back to the drawing table and started over as well as offering spareparts for everything inside their brakes. Next year I'll look for something else because I'm done with brakes I cannot trust where the bitepoint lives its own life. If the Lewis brakes are any good and they offer spareparts it could be an alternative. So far I got lots of time to evaluate...
@a8f235 spare parts haven't been an issue. So far I've gotten a new o-ring set and new clamp bolt (I stripped the old one) for free as replacements from Lewis. They also sell their own hoses, matchmaker adapters, brake pads, rotors, etc
I'm still riding my Trust Message on my Transition Spur, such a great combo. Makes the Spur a little bit heavier, but in combination with the progressive Geo such a great ride going downhill. Most of the time it's very hard to believe it's only 130/120mm
I'm really interested to hear how the Trust fork pairs with a high pivot suspension. I was able to demo a few and was always impressed at how well the axle path delt with rocks/roots/etc.
This video brings up the philosophical question, if at the beginning of every trail one says "I'm just going to take it chill" does that make it so? 😆Great video as always.
Just started the video, but that blue tape on the fork is very confidence-inspiring, lol. Rich Drew has one of those forks, and the way the wheel springs forward and tops out in slow-mo video of jumps just never gets old for me. Does the nature of the linkage fork alter the way the geometry changes as the wheel moves through travel, compared to a regular fork?
The rubber plug that the tape is holding has lost its dingle that holds it on, probably due to age haha. There are absolutely geometry changes that are noticeable throughout the travel. Good and bad...
Looking forward to your opinion of the the Lewis brakes! Your Dominion review was very informative. The leaking caliper was unfortunate, but the sloppy finish on those brakes is what deters me. The missmatching of the machined parts would drive me nuts and the lack of attention to detail at that price makes me question the company. My ebike came with Code's and I've tried to make them suck less by using HS2 rotors and Deslackinators on the levers, but I still hate them. Trying to decide what to replace them with next year and Lewis are on the short list. I can't keep waiting around for next gen Saint.
I rode a shout in 2019 and due to carving a notch in the carbon steerer tube it's been collecting dust since then. I have my eyes on a message on marketplace, can you review the support available to perform the service intervals since it is far from straightforward to perform from an at home shop.
What are your thoughts on coil vs air when it comes to enduro in general? Does it depend on the trail in general? Or do you find its worth being able to pump your way through the track with an air shock and put up with the rougher bits?
Very interested in hearing what you think about the Lewis brakes. did you get the LHt's or LH4's? have a set of the ultimates going on a new bike I cant talk about this coming weeks
Fortunately, I may have some of the spare parts available (and service manuals). I just broke my Trust Message steerer tube jumping 5th Horseman on Cypress.
It would be interesting to try a fork like that, I just would never purchase it myself given it'd be mainstream if it was a better option than conventional forks. If anything else would go mainstream over that thing it would be upside down forks, but I have little faith in that happening even though you do see some here and there. Quite pricey to get a complete unit at a more acceptable weight when it's an upside down fork.
I'd like to know how small bump compliance is. Is the weight is less or more than a tradition fork and how it effects riding. Also, the company said during the pandemic they are going on hiatus because of the pandemic and then never came back.
@@DaleStone I thought I saw in a Jeff Kendal Weed video(he had their forks for a while) it was going to be a hiatus. It's possible that they couldn't bring it back so they sold it to Specialized(highest bidder?).
Too many works to fit on smaller screens, maybe try something along the lines of “will this used carbon fork survive a downhill race?” Or just swap out downhill for just DH
Been away, so late to viewing this. I’m sure it’s been asked a million times times in the comments already (but I don’t have time to go through them right now), but I only want to know two things; 1) how does that dang thing work?; and 2) is it effective?
There’s a fine line between bravery and stupidity and I know that’s the sweet spot that you like to hangout in 😂. Interested to hear what you think of the fork.
@@DaleStone it was meant to be a compliment. In this video you are doing so many things I wouldn’t and that creates intriguing content. Changing anything on my bike the day of a race wouldn’t jive with me let alone something unknown, untested and very different from what was on the bike before is wild, it would have me out of sorts on a ride that I would be taking it easy, but to let it rip in a race like that is taking it to a whole nutha level.
The axle path on this fork is too rearward at beginning, makes it hard to react to vertical impact, it's very harsh on flat drops almost felt rigid. And too much rearward movement makes it easy to OTB when you're riding slow tech, the front wheel just get's out the way of obstacles and under you, that's good at rear, on the front it's scary.
@@DaleStone its a fatbike version of the fork. Titled "Crazy Fat Bike Build!" and "Fat Bike First Ride : Just A Fad?", but he's running the original fork for his awesome "Tree Lines : Fat Bike Trials" production because he cracked the clickbait ones
I mean, they're often made out of magnesium wich isn't particularly tough when compared to aluminium, carbon should do just fine as long as it's well engineered
@@Ferrari255GTO magnesium or iirc mag21's were XC not downhill. irregardless, I'd bet whatever magnesium forks you're talking about are not for downhill either
@@TecraTube from what i know most high end fork's legs are made out of magnesium to reduce unsprung weight and improove response, while magnesium is weaker than aluminium there's enough volume of material on fork's legs for it to be resistant enough, since magnesium is a little softer than aluminium and it's often compensated by adding material wich still results in lighter parts
I'm a sucker for weird and quirky things, what do you want to know about this fork (or these brakes) in the full reviews? 👀👇
Service intervals! Must be hard on the bearings? Or is it bushings? I want to know everything lol
Would you choose the fork over a regular fork?
Absolutely not, based solely on the lack of a warranty or spare parts. Performance wise maybe!

It's definitely interesting. I'd say the rearward axle path is far more important on the rear wheel than the front so far.
Even when you say you are going slow, you're fast! 🔥
OH YEAAAHH!! Really looking forward to the Lewis review
I think a review of the TRP dhr evo brakes would be helpful because you've allready ridden competing brakes like the Hayes Dominion.
They're on the list, but about 3-4 down. Some very exciting ones coming up soon... 👀
Lever feel is significantly lighter on the Dominions. Trps were easier to get setup / build quality looks better. For actual feel Dominos win.
Can't wait to learn more about this strange fork!

Pretty confidence inspiring fork I take it. However, you said it yourself, mtb is a fashion based industry. That fork never had a chance.

Those brakes look sick!
That's really cool footage!
It's my understanding that the Lewis brakes are essentially trickstuff clones. I'd love to see any input you have on that in the review.
Aesthetically for sure, but internally I think there might be more than meets the eye!
just from the look, the internal and the function is totally different
