the middle section of this track is ridiculously fast, and Matty hadnt even track walked it. but yes, even with a day of practice, he would struggle to keep up.
This may have been the best video I’ve watched in a long time of MTB. Matt I know how skilled and talented you are on a Bike, to see you reacting to these features as you did in this video was very humbling! Downhill is truly no joke!! Love ya brother!
The fact that Matt hit the drop at 13:13 with no track walk really does show how skilled he is as a rider, on Bernards video the boys were building up the courage and trying to work out the right speed for a while on that feature before sending it.
I think it's a mixture of being absolutely talented, crazy and a little bit dumb. No one should hit a feature like this without seeing it, the consequences are just too high.
Thanks Matt for taking the time to chat to my son Kaiden, take a photo and sign his hat. You're his idol (he even rides a Marin because you do) so those few seconds made his whole weekend. Goodluck today in the main race. Legend!
Matt I think you should start naming these guys you're racing with. They're incredible talents and deserve the exposure. Someone like myself wouldn't know who they are by name (but would like to!)
Agreed. It took a couple of years of asking Wynn to do it at the races, and he finally did.

This was easily one of your most entertaining videos ever. Brought back memories of you doing the enduro world stage thingy a loooong time ago. Just seems so authentintic when you are pushed out of your comfort zone and you still give it your all. Soo good, can't wait for more!
first video of his I've watched and I couldn't look away. Especially for that drop at 13.15. I've watched a lot of the other channels and the other pros spent AGES working that one out - my heart was in my mouth. And he just did it blind. Oof.
@@pittdog231 Definitily. He seems very confident with those big obstacles. Maybe sometime we will even see im in Rampage in a year or two. Maybe also taken advantage out of every one else riding it already.
🤣🤣🤣 dreaming.. Matt’s useless at this stuff .. I still don’t know why you keep sending him , keep him at his dirt jumps .. I can see him not walking on his own 2 feet off Tasmania
nah try playing trackmania or any racing game and you'll realize knowing a map track layout or even map layout in fps games isn't too hard. It's not about knowing the entire layout all at once but knowing what comes next after what you just did
Watch Bernard Kerr. He walks the course and rides it in stages. Makes mental notes of all the features and records on go pro too. Then watches it back. Not any amazing talent for memory. He does this at most of his dh races. Matt had a big disadvantage not walking the course the day before with all the other riders.
Hi Matt I met you at Hardline on saturday and I just wanted to say thanks for coming over and shaking my hand it really was a dream come true to meet you
WOW This really puts hard line into perspective massive kudos riding insane features mostly blind and the honesty showing the self doubt and fear. Your killing it!!!
I love this video so much! I appreciate the raw unfiltered commentary. Ton of respect watching this and as a novice I can relate to this video more than your others. Thanks for sharing Matt!
This is the most relatable video from a pro slopestyle/freerider that I have ever seen ! You portrayed all the emotions that every Mountain Biker goes through before hitting a gnarly trail or line, with the exception that you're doing this on a Redbull Hardline Course. Mad Respect !
One of your best videos mate. Shows the reality and complexity of the sport. Amazes me how certain features trigger different mental approaches. Thanks!!
This is the first video i've seen where you seem worried about the track as you havent done a track walk, but the way you attacked the drop in on the road gap said a lot about the fact you know you're better than you know! Keep it up matt! This shit is SICK
I will forever love your content for bringing the “humane” side to all of it. Like you’re getting tired, not hitting everything first try, being afraid and so on (also bringing up how really fearless you have to be to COMPETE at Hardline - not even DH cup-level fearless)
Mate! You are hitting features by yourself with no track walk, which the others had days to ages calculate their lines and speed. You are smashing it! Looking forward to watching seeding in a few hours✌️
Love this, Matt. It really brings a human element to this, where a rider like you is happy to show the struggle and work that goes into becoming these racers, who now make hardline look easy on UA-cam. You gave me some real heart in mouth moments watching this and I had a really sense of the difficulty of this race!
Between darkfest, the backflip supes and this i am so srsly impressed with Matt. We can’t even joke about Jamie “carrying the channel” anymore. Most versatile rider alive? Damn! Def my fav, that’s for sure.
Matt, I want to let you know I feel how you were feeling trying to get a feel for the trail. I am not a pro rider by any means, and I have felt that same feeling following my friends down gnarly tracks. I have done some bigish jumps (my biggest was probably 35-40 feet), so I know I can do stuff like that. But when I try to follow a friend down new trails, I end up getting so frustrated that I have no problem hitting big jumps, but when trying to hit small drops or blind features, I trip myself up every time. It's something I need to work on a lot, and I could tell you felt similar trying to send it on Hardline. You are an insane rider Matt, and I love all of your videos. It seems all mountain bikers have moments like this no matter the skill level, so you're doing absolutely insane. Keep sending it!
Full props to you Matt. Downhill is really different to anything else. And to do it on a hardline track is insane. It's great to see a trick ferret hitting everything the speed ferrets do.
I watch a lot of people’s mountain bike videos… but yours are just better. They hold your attention better and the editing is just better. Also the brotherhood between you 3 always brings a smile to my face. Just hanging with the boys ! At the end of the day keep up the good work your channel is awesome !
Mad props to you Matt on this Vid, the honesty and realness was legit! Also, the rider who was willing to stick with you and gave you a tow was legit as well!
I love seeing a pro rider not just hitting everything blind and taking his time to look at all the features, Makes me feel kinda normal for doing this. Most other youtube bike guys makes it look easy and as if they're just hitting it blind for the first time.
So impressive Matt! I think some people will see this and think you were maybe sandbagging at the beginning but its amazing to see how you handled yourself so far out of your comfort zone! I had a few heart in mouth moments, just watching! Especially when you took a blind leap off of the drop into the big corner before the double in the woods!
Quite refreshing vid to watch listening to you in your own head, becoming frustrated and overcoming it as it comes, Iv often had similar conversations in my own head when following faster guys
Matt fair play, hitting this without a track walk is insane. Hitting that drop blind at the end of the video deserves serious recognition😂 helluva effort
Matt, you need some serious sprint training or something.... maybe ask BK to train you in a collab video, get ya brother involved too, do a season of UK downhilling or something... learn a bit more of the racing side, which can only benefit you on the trails/jumps!!! It would make for some great content between you all too and massively highlight the UK downhill race scene!?!?!?!? 🙏
I liked this video. Kind of refreshing seeing you struggle. Like you said, not your discipline. But I think it just shows that this trail is next level as one of the best can't just link it in one. Cool to see a different side. Must be humbling!
Braver than a Brave thing....very engaging but slightly worrying to even watch, let alone do, drew me in with Matt's non whinging talk through on how he was feeling about riding 'blind' it gave a real feel to riding the course, great video.
man, I bet its hard to show up to a race like this with the best riders in the world, I bet you feel way out of your league. But I want to say that it is so cool and inspiring to see you expanding your horizons to stuff like darkfest, and now hardline. Matt, you are a diferent species of biker and I have so much respect for you for doing this. You have always been a great inspiration, and I love watching you videos! Keep going, what your doing is amazing!
Tough gig. Coming in a day late. Watching Bernard's vids of the track walk and first rides shows how much help that is to instilling confidence for the riders. No wonder Matt was struggling.
This is the stuff I really like to watch. I can relate much more to this experience, and it gives PERSPECTIVE. Mr Jones is amazing and also it's cool to see him working stuff out as he goes here wow.
Matt! Did you hit that wooden lip drop @13:14 without even looking at it!!?! Dude! You might feel behind when it comes to the level, but you are no lower down the pecking order! You have mad skills bro to hit that stuff blind is next level lad! Well done! So stoked to see you at this event!
Mate you’re nuts 😂 You’re on the toughest DH course in the world, making it sound hard and scary but at the same time just hitting it and making it work. Really cool to watch/listen to and the POV’s of the DH guys just off in the distance is madddd!
I'm so hyped to watch hardline on saturday! I've never watched it live, just been watching your content on the OG hardline. Good luck! Best wishes from Norway!

Seeing a pro rider losing a pro downhill rider after a few turns shows you how good those guys really are. It's insane to see them riding in real life
Their corering speed is utter madness. This really shows where you win a downhill race.
This video really puts into perspective how fast the DH boys are. unreal!
the middle section of this track is ridiculously fast, and Matty hadnt even track walked it. but yes, even with a day of practice, he would struggle to keep up.

Yep
100%
I also think he should do that , but you can see the name of the riders on the list of riders selected to ride hardline Tasmania
Would be nice yeah, but i think Ben is doing the edit of those Videos an he also has No clue who they are.

I was thinking the same.
We all know matt is a hell of a mountainbiker, but it is crazy to see the difference between him an the pro racers on a course like this
The difference I saw was that (in an effort to catch-up) he worked his way through those obstacles faster than everyone else.
