Your getting the hang of youtube very well Sam and your teaching and explaining is straightforward and honest . It takes guts to put yourself out there . Good for you man your videos are really great. A book can give anyone knowledge but seeing you paint makes its easier to understand . Thank you keep up the great work 🖒
Thank you so much. Yes I agree with you, I was having the same problems with my painting years ago and it was my friend Andrew Tischler who helped me with my painting. It was great to have someone to show me a few painting techniques so now I am passing on the information through this UA-cam channel 😊
I love how well you explain everything! It's really helpful the way you explain the color mixing, brushes, and the reasoning behind what you do. Awesome! Thanks.
Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your videos, their quality and your content. Your style of teaching and your artistic voice is extremely enjoyable! Thank you for taking the time to create your content!
Still learing? You must be kidding. I've been painting longer than you've been alive and you are so much better than me. You are an absolutely fantastic artist. I'm learning from you.
I have to agree with the other comments below. So grateful you’ve undertaken this, and that you share with us. I love your work and your style. Thank you!!
You are so welcome, thanks Kathy. Sorry for my late reply, lots of crazy things going on here. I'm finally going to be getting into some painting this week!🙂
Samuel Earp Artist awesome! Been painting for 20 odd years, and still consider myself a learner. Really enjoyed your video. Today I'm celebrating,a painting I did arrived in Seattle. Working on some koi, hanging out to finish to start a seascape..
This is so beautiful! I'm currently practicing on painting seascapes myself. I love how informative your videos are! Watching these gives me so much inspiration!
This is the most helpful seascape video I've found on UA-cam. I'm currently attempting to paint this with acrylics. Thank you so much for doing it and sharing with us, Sam!!!
Great job, and good to see you using Aussie Langridge paints, I just love them! I enjoyed watching this and your take on painting light first and then going in with darks. I did a little wave painting the other day and it ended up too light (I think), but now I see I can paint the deeper tones back in..and alter the colours to brighter with more confidence.. thanks for sharing!
Thanks Samuel, this video was very helpful as I’ve just started to explore seascapes but have been struggling with the foam on waves etc, your simplified tips helped so much. Thanks again👍
Oh! Wow......thank you for including the grid lines. This is a brilliant video, and, the information, and, detail you provide is superb. This sure gives me the confidence to try,try again. Your presentation is also wonderful, and, very easy to listen to. Excellent work,Sam.
Very good yes, but I have a photo of huge breakers engulfing a church. Its the difficulty of getting the texture of the white which is ob an overcast day. Weather to use a sponge or cloth in my otherwise knife painting.
Thanks Ronald, yeah foam can be tricky and it takes practice but it gets easier the more you paint it. I always try and simplify foam by establishing the areas of light and shadow.
Awesome video! Love your work. Your use of color within the water is something that I will keep in mind when I work on my own ocean scapes. Keep up the good work!
Again a great tutorial. I want to learn oil painting . I found your videos are so elaborated with all explanations. I will try as per your instruction and i will show you 😀
Hi Samuel! I am trying to figure out UA-cam too. I live in an isolated area of Vancouver Island and haven’t been able to find art classes which suit my style here. Your videos have helped me immensely! Thank you! This is just the beginning of our relationship! Keep it up. Don’t worry about uploading a large number of videos, you have a life. I can watch them over and over!
Sam...love seascapes...your style is just beautiful. I always think..the brushstrokes and color mixing is what makes an artist work ..and your color mixing is just wonderful...really beautiful work...thanks for sharing your process and nuggets for those who want to learn more...appreciate it so... Can I ask what kind of dagger brush are you using? Thank you for your time..
Very helpful. I also like your kind demeanor. Do you have any tips for sketching. I love painting, and I show some promise..., but I haven't done any sketching. Seems more and more like I might need to learn how to do some of that. Any good but straightforward resources? Any suggestions you have for getting started with some simple sketching? Materials? Ways to practice...etc?
Hey Jessica, glad you enjoyed the video. It’s funny you should ask that cause I’m editing the next video on the moment which is on sketching, I’m hoping to get the video out in the next few days. Loved the video thanks. I appreciated that you showed your sketch and added some art theory into your tutorial. I paint in acrylic so I know my blending time is considerably less than if I was using oils. Looks like west coast NZ surf!
Thanks summer breeze, yeah it does look like the NZ west coast, but the photo reference I used is from the other side of the world, the Atlantic Ocean.
Yay! I'm so glad you found your way through utube.. Now I can bumble my way through your video by hitting pause and replay in order to try and paint this... It is absolutely beautiful! I also learned a lot.. Glad to know about keeping the horizon higher or lower.. =0) Thank you so much for sharing!!! It's gorgeous!! I'll look for you on Instagram also... =0)

Love your stuff brother. I heard you say you can do this in acrylic but how do you apply pure white for the white water when acrylics dry so quickly? I struggle with trying to mix the right color before the paint I just put down dries so I can blend the colors. No hard lines in water. I am assuming this is why you switched to oils?
Thanks Jay. I switched to oils years ago because acrylics dry too quickly and I was finding hard to work with them. You can still make the white stand out with acrylics and it’s all related to the tonality of your painting. I do much prefer oils especially as the colours are more vibrant. Having said that I think acrylics have their place and I’ve seen some great results with acrylics. If you have not used oils before give them a try, personally I think they’re much easier to paint with than acrylics 😊
