I wish I could help you there but I only do videos on things that I have real world experience with. And I really don't see me ever doing a build that combo brother.
Great information. I do have a question. I have a 94 Camaro Z 28 with the LT one engine I am pulling the original transmission and put in a TH 350 in it. There is two sets of wires going to it one for speedometer and then one coming in for the top of the transmission I assume coming from the computer. What can I do about the Speedometer plug-in and if I leave the other wires unplugged how will it affect the way the motor runs
I have a 93 chevy 350 4l60e,,,just rebuilt,,,the flexplate has that butterfly weight on it,,,since I got it back from the trans shop it has a wobble in the van,,,that weighted flexplate is what is called for in my van g 20,,,,why doesn't your flexplat have a weight?
Because a 93 4L60 flex plate is totally different than a 99-up LS style 4L60e flex plate. Your 93 4L60 is basically just a 700r4 with a new name and some extra wires. The 99-up 4L60e is a completely different case with interchangeable bellhousing and “upgraded” internal components and fully computer controlled.
I found one of those with the spacer at O'Reilly. Wtf I had already bought the aftermarket spacer lol. I didn't know they came with a spacer. I'll be darn!
The dished flex plate in my swap came with 5.3 from a yokun 2003 also I've an 03 silverado 4.8 also has the dished flex plate 🤔 maybe the difference you mentioned could be in 99-2002 models? But the bolt pattern for the flex plate to the tourque converter is there i drilled it with a cone drill bit.
As I explained multiple times, the engine didnt determine which flexplate you have, the transmission does. You seem to be misunderstanding alot of what I said in the video so I'll summerize again.....4L60=dished flexplate, 4L80=flat flexplate. Engine doesn't matter.
Alright! Now my only issue is that torque converters in the aftermarket seem to LOVE that 10.75" bolt pattern. Be nice if there was a 4L80E flexplate drilled for that.
What transmission are you using? If it’s a th350/th400 then either use a th400 specific converter or a dual pattern th350/400 converter. If it’s a 700r4 or pre99 4L60 then you’ll have to either slot the holes as explained in the video or purchase an aftermarket flex plate.
@@BadLuckGarage th400 - which is why I'd want to use a 4L80E flexplate. Here's the issue: the 11.5" and dual pattern torque converters I'm looking at (Summit, and I think I looked at Jegs) are nearly twice the cost of a 10.75" TC. Lots of aftermarket TC's for th400/350 only seem to come in 10.75", So I'll be using the dished 4L60E flexplates I have, and slotting them, I'd just rather have the holes drilled in the right spot (on an aftermarket 4L80E type plate) and not have to use that cheesy adapter or weaker plate. The Dirty Dingo flexplate other than being SFI rated, is nothing more than a 4L80E plate with 11.5" hole pattern. I just don't get why they wouldn't drill both holes if they're going to the trouble of making a plate and getting it SFI rated and whatnot. 100% I'd have bought that plate if it was double drilled.
When he said "just avoid these trucks all together" i died laughing. I was saying it through the entire video that those trucks where slow and gas guzzlers. I wish I found this video a week ago. I have a 4.8 that came out of the savana van with a 4L80e. I got ahead of myself and installed a hub spacer ($25 ICT Billet). Unfortunately I have a 700R4 with the smaller pattern (get out the grinder)
Yea I personally don’t see any benefit in using a 700r4 in an LS swap, only negatives as it creates more problems, especially in regard to the TV cable and it doesn’t take advantage of the computer controlled shifting and and tuning that the 4L60e or 4L80e would be able to. Matter of fact the ONLY time I would personally see it as a feasible option is if you were going to be using a carb setup instead of the fuel injection.
@@332ARA Thats what I just said, If you're using a carb then it makes sense. If you kept the efi then the 4L80 would make sense and be the cheaper option. You're choosing to run a carb so slot those flexplate holes and throw the 700r4 in since you wont have the computer to run the 80 anyway.
What about the electronics for the 4L80E? Are there any sensors that the LS engine or computer requires from the 4L80E that would be missing from the TH350?
Those are turned off in the tune. When you’re running an old non-computer controlled transmission, you basically set the tune up the same way you would with a manual transmission.
700r4 uses a 10.75” torque converter bolt pattern like many other transmissions. That’s what’s important and that was explained in detail in the video.
Hey my friend I have a question? I have a 6.0 and a 02 4160e transmission what flywheel it will work for my application can you please let me know if you can thank you!
I am putting a 5.3 ls in s10 and running a 700r4 and I went and bought a flexplate for 2004 chevy 2500 HD with 6.0 with 4l80e trans.it would not bolt up to my torque converter on my 700r4 unless I modified the holes.
@@BadLuckGarage do you think it will be OK to modify the holes on the 4l80e flexplate since I have already bought one? Hey man I sure enjoy your videos I have learned alot watching your videos.Thanks.
Like I said in the video, people do it everyday brother. I probably wouldn’t trust with on an 800hp turbo build, but for a lower power NA build it should work just fine in my opinion. There are companies such as speedway that now sell LS flexplates with a 10.75” pattern for around $70-$80 though. So that’s a lower budget option you have now that wast there back when I first made this video. 👍 Glad you’re enjoying the videos too brother. Swapping a 350 abc out for a 8.1 LS into an 87 burban. I want to still use the tranny ( 700r4/4l60 ) and tcase. Wiring not the issue. I want to see what I will need to use with zero problems. Would the 4l80e flex plate work for this application.
700r4 and early 4L60 used same bolt pattern as a TH350. So unless you get a converter with dual patterns you’ll need to grind the bolt holes a bit. I edited that info out because a 700r4 makes zero sense to do in an ls swap when the 4L60e fits exactly in its place and doesn’t require a tv cable or crude lockup techniques.
@@BadLuckGarage well I have one that was currently rebuild and works great. I was just going to used it in a daily driver build. Till it breaks then upgrade to a 4l80/6l80 what ever I can find
Like I always say brother, it’s your build so you do you. But if it were me I would sell the 700r4 to someone and buy a 4L60e or better yet a 4L80. The 700 is going to require more work and money as you’ll need to buy adapters to properly attach the TV cable to the ls throttle body and there’s the flexplate grinding, and you’ll need to purchase the lockup kit to control the torque converter lockup since it lacks the computer controlled lockup. Or you can wire it to a toggle switch and lock it up manually while cruising. We used to wire them up that way back in the day. Just don’t forget to unlock it when you come to a stop. Lol.
Early 4L60e has a 10.75” pattern just like a th350 or 700r4 so refer to that part of the video. If it’s a late model LS style 4L60e then obviously you just want to use the 4L60e flex plate.
I have a 97 4.3 2wd Gm pick up and my transmission went out. I have a 2005 2wd transmission and I was wondering if I can use that 05 transmission to my 97
I'm running a TH400 with 4l60 plate. The pads of the torque converter do not touch the flex plate when I push the torque converter all the way towards the engine. I can't put washers because then I don't have my 1/8-3/16 spacing. I noticed the 4l60 plate spacer hits the converter and crank and won't allow the converter to contact the plate. What do I do here? Is that normal. Do I have to take it apart and machine down the spacer?
Hello have a 6.0L with a th350. tranny went lost 2 gears put in another th350, it started makin noise. apart again i see the flexplates been drilled for converter holes and its flat not dished. Also no spacer and it needed one thats why it blew up maybe. anyway, found the correct dished flexplate with proper 3 holes and got the spacer for the converter pilot. but now the flexplate ring gear is just slightly colidding with my starter housing. starter needs to be quarter inch longer. Any ideas?
700r4 has a 10.75” bolt pattern. So does the early 4L60. So either flex plate you use will have to have the holes slotted. The late 4L60e(LS version) has an 11.07” pattern as explained in the video. I didn’t talk much about the 700r4 because I really don’t recommend using it with an LS swap as it creates more problems than it solves.
@@BadLuckGarage yea unfortunately I’m gonna stick the ls in my truck and reuse the 700r4 for the tile being because of money, but I’m trying to figure out what plate to use

Yes, depending on the bolt pattern of the stock converter as explained in the video. If you don’t understand how to measure your converters bolt circle, there’s a link in the video description to a video explaining how to measure it.
Hey so I used the flex plate and bolts it came with and got it all bolted up. I can’t spin the torque converter because the torque converter stub is hitting the bolts that mount the flex plate to crank. I’m going to try the oem bolts that I off the dished flex plate see if it clears.
B Hinz sounds like you don’t have your converter fully seated into the transmission. I’m also not sure how your converter snout would be wide enough to make contact with the bolts. That makes no sense to me.
Bad Luck Garage The converter is fully seated in the transmission. I figured it out it was the flex plate mounting bolts. I meant to say that the snout on the torque converter is welded inside the dish part of the converter. Well the dish part was hitting the bolts that came with the flex plate. It was grinding on the dish where the snout is welded to. The oem bolts are shorter at the head by 1/8 of a inch. When I put the oem bolts in the torque converter was able to spin. Thanks for the tip on the flex plate though. Everything bolted right up. No shimming or anything.

Loved it when you showed the gap in the center. Wanted to scream. " Dinner time.....
🤣
Great tips!
Well shit, it’s the great Denmah!!! 👍🏻 Yea I finally decided it’s easier to share a video link than to type out answers to this question 20 times a week. Lol
Good video, swapping a 4.8 in my 84 Square body. I already have the adapter for the torque converter so gonna elongate the holes and make it work for now.
By the way you ja e saved me time and money on several occasions with your vodeos. Keep up the good work brother
Glad to hear brother! Be sure to share the videos you think are most helpful on your favorite social media and help others! Also will help grow the channel and help me keep making content!
I forgot the 350 and 400 turbo's had different torque converter patterns, LOL. Been so long since I played with them. Your right about the 5 bolts though. My friends never put back in all the bell housing bolts, LOL.
Lol that’s not good.
have a 6.0 with a longer snout on crankshaft and wondering witch flywheel to use when using a th350 so i do not have to extend holes on flywheel, dont know what year motor it is, i followed your advise on your flywheel video and bought proper one for the 5.3 i was going to use. thank you love your vids
As long as your not doing something crazy, the4bolts around the dowels it's fine!
*5 bolts
Great information, I have to adapt a Gen V LT1 6.2 to a 4L80, still have to figure that out. lol
I don’t have any LT experience yet unfortunately.
Thank you. I was just wondering about yhis very thing.
94-97 4L60E has the same bolt pattern as TH350/Powerglide/700R4. 98+ 4L60E has the 11.066 bolt pattern.
correct
Everyone that needs flex plate and a adapter Jegs sells the set for the LS to older gm trans for $135 that’s all you will need to bolt it up
You can buy the 4L80 flexplate with spacer and bolts for less than $70 from most auto parts stores brother. Why would you want to pay twice as much from Jegs?
do one with a new transmission old engine. Like the 8 speed auto from a corvette to a 2005 L33
I wish I could help you there but I only do videos on things that I have real world experience with. And I really don't see me ever doing a build that combo brother.
Thanks for this excellent video. You really cleared up a lot of mystery for me.
Glad it was helpful!
This video is great! Thank you
Thank you for this video I've got a th400 that I want to put behind a 5.3 or 4.8 and didn't know what the hell to do
Happy to hear the video helped! Thanks for watching!
Great info...I just destroyed a flexplate by modifying 4l60 thanks
Well I hate to hear that but I’m glad you found the video helpful. 👍
Best video I’ve seen yet on this topic! I’m late, but I’m a new sub for sure
Thanks brother. Glad the video helped you out!👍
Very informative video being that im I'm prepping for an ls swap
Glad you’re finding the videos helpful brother. 👍
Thank you so much man.. im going 6.0 in my 93 c1500! Helped me soo much!
Great to hear!
I found one of those with the spacer at O'Reilly. Wtf I had already bought the aftermarket spacer lol. I didn't know they came with a spacer. I'll be darn!
Yep they come in a kit. Should have come with bolts as well.
Thanks man your help is much appreciated I will now be moving forward with my build
@@BadLuckGarage 👍👍
Great info! Very helpful
Glad you found it helpful. 👍
@@notsure7874 most of the summit and jegs brand converters I’ve seen are dual pattern brother. And ANY th400 converter will be 11.5” pattern.
When he said "just avoid these trucks all together" i died laughing. I was saying it through the entire video that those trucks where slow and gas guzzlers. The only thing useful from them is the intake because it was cale throttle vs. The electronic throttle bodies that came later, which thats completely opinionated.
I have a 99 chevy astro 2wd I have a 4l60e from a 2004 silverado 2wd is this 4l80 flexplate doable.? Thanks by the way my van is a 4.3 vortec. Thanks again 😮
Excellent video!!
Glad you liked it!
I'm swapping a 2004 Cadillac Escalade 6.0 into a 97 chevy silverado and the flywheel from caddy wont bolt up to the 4l80 in the truck so that flywheel from 4l80e will bolt up to it thanks
Great video! I'm trying to remove a 6.7 Cummins from an Allison 1000 in a 2010 step van and replace the Allison with a 1988 GM350 gas engine. Can't find any info if the bolt pattern will match up or, will the Allison 1000 operate without pcm control. It has an electronic module in it. If anyone has input, I'd be really grateful,.
@@glenncivale6824 I don’t really know much about Allison transmissions pertaining to computer control. As for the bolt pattern, just measure it. There’s a link to a video showing you how to measure torque converter bolt circles in the video description.
Great video. so I have a 1999 5.7 2500 silverado crew cab 4x4 obs with a 4l80e transs. Can I swap a to a 6.0 or 5.3 ls using my 4l80e I do have the top bolt 🔩 🤔 on my transs. Thanks in advance.
Yes
Man I needed this video thanks dude🏁
Your videos is so helpful I’m doing a ls swap on my 89 Camaro and I was wondering if I changed my flywheel will it bolt up to it
Hell yea brother!!! Perfect timing.
Hopefully it helped brother.

I know this is an old vid but was wondering if you could expand on bolting a BOP TH350 to an LS. Will it still have the 5 bolts?
@@sarge436 Won’t work.
I have a question so I'm using my 700r4 transmission with LQ9 engine that the bellhousing on 700r4 doesn't fit with the 6.0 what do i do

Thank you I hope you’re doing well I have a problem I have a 2004 LS engine 5.3 that I bought in a junkyard I’m trying to swap into a Dodge dart everything’s in but when I try to install the starter Motor I’m having problems it’s making noise grinding noise no I have a two speed powerglide transmission and I took your advice and buying that flywheel what am I doing wrong I tried Spacing it out with shims nothing is working help please
yep , cleared things right up... thx
LS 5.3 to a 74 TH350. Will the starter on the LS have any issues fitting into the TH350? Is there a hump on the bell housing for the starter? Any video of the two mated together?
The starter doesnt go into the transmission. This isnt a Dodge, lol
Bad Luck Garage ah. The bell housing doesn’t go down that far. The converter cover covers the starter.
I like and subscribed to your account because your honest and upfront. I appreciate the info I’m trying to ls swap an 1987 r10 and just getting all the info I can. Thanks big dawg 👍🏾
Glad you’re finding the videos helpful brother!
I wish I found this video a week ago. I have a 4.8 that came out of the savana van with a 4L80e. I got ahead of myself and installed a hub spacer ($25 ICT Billet). Unfortunately I have a 700R4 with the smaller pattern (get out the grinder)
With the 700r4s 10.75” bolt pattern you were gonna be getting the grinder out no matter what flex plate you went with brother. 😉
@@BadLuckGarage might be better to replace
Yea I personally don’t see any benefit in using a 700r4 in an LS swap, only negatives as it creates more problems, especially in regard to the TV cable and it doesn’t take advantage of the computer controlled shifting and and tuning that the 4L60e or 4L80e would be able to. Matter of fact the ONLY time I would personally see it as a feasible option is if you were going to be using a carb setup instead of the fuel injection.
@@BadLuckGarage I am using a carb. Also I'm using stock speedo cable. And I have the transmission. One swap combo does not fit all
@@332ARA Thats what I just said, If you're using a carb then it makes sense. If you kept the efi then the 4L80 would make sense and be the cheaper option. You're choosing to run a carb so slot those flexplate holes and throw the 700r4 in since you wont have the computer to run the 80 anyway.
Thanks fam. ..going to hook my ls3 to my turbo 400
This video is going to help me get a 5.3 in my 69 impala :D could you recommend me a torque converter?
do still use the TH400 TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER
The th400 and 4L80 share the same 11.5” bolt pattern as explained in the video.
Question I'm gonna do a 5.3ls swap in my 84 c10 suburban and still use the factory 700r4 which flex play will I need to use?
So is this the same for a 700r4? Never heard you mention it.
My man 💪🏿💪🏿 I really appreciate you and you have a new subscriber
Thanks for the sub!
I am putting a 5.3 ls in s10 and running a 700r4 and I went and bought a flexplate for 2004 chevy 2500 HD with 6.0 with 4l80e trans.it would not bolt up to my torque converter on my 700r4 unless I modified the holes.
That’s because your converter has a 10.75” bolt pattern as explained in the video.
I love hearing that some of them are helping people as that’s why I originally started this channel!
What can I do
I have 1993 Chevy C1500 short bed truck 350 truck.
I removed the 350 engine.
I want to still keep my recently rebuilt 4L60 Transmission an Torque convertor

I just installed turn on engine about to bolt the torque converter an does not aligned now Install.1/26/2021
I need help.?
The 1995 454 engine I bought came with a beefer Flex Plate I did not see the Transmission that engine was bolt on to transmission .
I was only able to buy it hear the engine turn on without a transmission they had already sold the original transmission.
I need help what do you recommend
I really want to drive the truck today .
The engine fit good like original factory an sounds good.

Swapping a 350 abc out for a 8.1 LS into an 87 burban. I want to still use the tranny ( 700r4/4l60 ) and tcase. Wiring not the issue. I want to see what I will need to use with zero problems. Would the 4l80e flex plate work for this application.
Definitely a big help
This great information, what about for a 700r4 transmission?
Lol.
@@BadLuckGarage how much u think I can get for a rebuild 700r4? Less than 1000 miles
Just depends on your area and who wants it.
What if ima use a 4l60e transmission and 4l80e flex plate????? Is that possible
I have a 2005 2wd transmission and I was wondering if I can use that 05 transmission to my 97
No
I'm running a TH400 with 4l60 plate.
How do set up kick down cable t350 to 5.3
Hello have a 6.0L with a th350. tranny went lost 2 gears put in another th350, it started makin noise. apart again i see the flexplates been drilled for converter holes and its flat not dished. Also no spacer and it needed one thats why it blew up maybe. anyway, found the correct dished flexplate with proper 3 holes and got the spacer for the converter pilot. but now the flexplate ring gear is just slightly colidding with my starter housing. starter needs to be quarter inch longer. Any ideas?
what about a 2008 6.0 gmc XL !

LSX INNOVATIONS. I've already done several videos on engine mounts brother, And thats who I always recommend.
so the 700R4 torque converter bolts up to the 4l80 flex plate just fine? Thanks
No
4l80e flexplate works with a 700r4 also? You stopped saying 700r4 when you were saying that and i thought a 4l60e was the same as a 700r4
@@BadLuckGarage so if i go ahead and use a 4l80e flex plate i can just get a aftermarket 700r4 torque converter to match the holes
That fit is called sweat fit, they heat the gear up and make it expand and it s shrinks on to the flip wheel, , kool thank , thanks praise Jesus grace Christ amen 🙏 BigAl California.
this video is a little older but my question is, will a stock th350 converter not fit the flex plate properly? is that the reason you have to upgrade?
Most stock th350 converters will have a 10.75” pattern.
Does this work with a stock converter also? I see he has an aftermarket in the video that has 2 sets of holes in it... just confirming. Thanks
Yes, depending on the bolt pattern of the stock converter as explained in the video. If you don’t understand how to measure your converters bolt circle, there’s a link in the video description to a video explaining how to measure it.
@@BadLuckGarage copy that, thank you sir!

Glad you got it worked out brother. Yea you had me totally confused. 🤣
I put a lm7 in my Chevelle and had Brendan from lt1 swap delete vats and emissions ect. I've ran it a few times had clogged 2 hole injectors and had a set of 4 hole injectors laying around so I put those in and finally got body on and several things done to where I can drive it but bank 2 is running rich and oxygen sensors aren't switching bank 2 is stuck lean I used a tanks inc setup with Corvette style fuel filter/ regulator and thought that I might need to put it back to a return style system and also cleaned MAF (which is mounted Infront of throttle body) do you have any advice on bank 2 rich condition short term fuel trim is around 50?

will the 700r4 work with the 4180e flex plate
