I'm much more into classic rock, blues, never liked metal EXCEPT SOAD. Dunno why, I think it's their fusion of Armenian folk sounds and operatics, really strong melodies.
Also, I used to put 'Spiders' on in the school common room if I wanted to clear out the pop/hip hop crowd.

You can react to Chop suey, Aerials, Lonely day by System of a Down they're all awesome music I haven't listent to a lot of there music.
You can also react to Slipknot : The Devil in I, Psychosocial, Duality, Unsainted, people = shit, Wait and Bleed, Snuff, Killpop, Spit it out, Dead memories, Left Behind, Sulfur, Vermilion.
And maybe some Rammstein : Du Hast live in Paris, Sonne (live at Rock im Park 2017), ich tu dir weh (live from Madison Square Garden).

When listening to SOAD for the first time I find that having the lyrics pulled up while your listening to the song make for a better experience so you wouldn' have to worry about the captions "triggering" some people. I recommend Aerials next, it is a lot "Chiller" of a song with a fantastic message.

SOAD songs are often like that. Emotional roller-coaster. You could pretty much pick out any song of theirs and you'll find there is a huge range of interpretation to their lyrics. I don't think captions will help much to be honest, it's better to just sit back and enjoy the song first time listening. Then go back and look at the lyrics or listen a few more times yourself. SOAD lyrics, I think, are best to interpret yourself, take from it what you feel. Definitely love to see more SOAD reactions. Check out "Chop Suey" for sure, "Question" is another I love. So many powerful songs.

Lyric videos and don’t be afraid to re-react to the same song live. Some bands are actually better live then in the studio. However by reacting to lyric videos, it will allow you to understand the song. Then when reacting to the live version u can actually enjoy it along with the crowd.

    • @losxdescabezados
      @losxdescabezados Рік тому

I think it's always best to go with the studio or lyric video first so then if you decide to do a live version, you can understand what the song is supposed to sound like. Too many times, bands will noodle with a song and make it different than the studio version or change it entirely and, to a fan, this is great but as a first time listener, you won't know the deviations the band may be taking.

Its hard not to like System of a down even though their music is very experimental

  • @wolfgangengel4835
    @wolfgangengel4835 2 роки тому +10

You were talking about the variety in their music, and you are not wrong. System of a down combine many genres, this is not your average rockband. You sir wanted to start getting into coffee, and they gave you the fanciest experimental coffee with a splash of acid to start with. 😄 They are considered to be Alternative Metal. But that's more like a term for a metal band that doesn't fit categories. System of a down is Nu Metal, Thrash Metal, Speed Metal, Hardcore Punk, Alternative, Avantgarde, Progressive, Psychedelic and Art Rock. They also have folk influences, basicly middle eastern vibes. And yeah, no song is like the other, but what you always will recognize in 90 % of their songs are these extrem changes from smooth to heavy, slow to fast, and all kinds of rhythmic changes.
A song like BYOB for example switches from classic metal vibes to an almost R'N'B like chorus, to dance along in the club. What you don't find that much in their catalogue is a song that's just calm, or a song that's just heavy. What you will often find are songs that are sad, funny, angry, deep and silly at the same time. And yes, do it with captions if you like. Could tell a lot about their lyrics, but I feel this is getting too long at this point. 😄

Yooo you have to check out Avenged sevenfold please! I'd suggest starting with Shepherd of fire, buried alive or Maybe even start with So far away. Both so far away and buried alive are from their nightmare album dedicated to their dead drummer "James the REV". You might not enjoy them for the first time like me, but after listening to them more, and kind of just appreciate their talent, you learn to love them. hope to see you react to more rock and metal music!
P.S I love it when reaction channels get to read and understand the lyrics, so I suggest the lyric music videos or turn on captions.

Asked and answered I'm sure by quite a few others, but personally I couldn't care less if someone has captions on the video. There are some songs where the lyrics are so important, I'd just as soon people watched a lyric video (Rage Against the Machine for example). Getting more out of it is always a good thing, and SOAD's lyrics can be quite deep.

System of a down definitely has their own thing going for them...
But in terms of genres, they are usually boxed into Nü Metal, mostly because that was the big genre of the mid 90's and early 2000's, and they broke out on the scene in '98...
Here are some other really big and successful bands from this era, you might've heard of: *Korn, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, Coal chamber, Static X, early Incubus and early Deftones*
You might wanna give some of these a try and you'll definitely hear similarities

Ahh, I love system of a down. Great reaction as always. I will let the suggesting be up to other's, because there's just too many good SOAD songs, and all so very different.
However, if you want something truly special, how about trying some Ayreon? I'd suggest "The day that the world breaks down." Not the audio only version, mind you, but the one on Arjen's channel, which has some behind the scene information in it. Do yourself a favor and go in blind. I don't think I've seen a reactor say it was a bad song, ever. Or maybe they didn't release their video...
Ayreon, or more accurately, Arjen Anthony Lucassen, is in my top 5 five favorite artists of all time, so I'd appreciate a consideration. Trust me man, you won't be disappointed... it's a bit of a lengthy video, but it's very, very much worth the time.
Oh, and umm... I'm completely fine with captions. As a matter of fact, in some cases I prefer them.

Pretty long text ahead, sorry in advance😂
*Fun fact:* Serj Tankian (the lead singer) is an opera trained singer! He also has his own songs (separated from SOAD: 'sky is over' is one of my favorites!) The band members are Armenian and they do have some slower songs: Holy mountains, Aerials and I guess Hypnotize is also slower (compared to most of their songs at least)! All really good if you ask me!
I'm also a SOAD fan and I don't have a problem with the captions! When it comes to this kind of songs, most of the time it's hard to understand what they're saying.
On the other hand, (and this is another thing I love about SOAD) most of SOAD's songs are free to interpretation! *'Aerials'* is a good example I think. If you want to check more from this crazy band, I really recommend: Chop Suey, Aerials, B.Y.O.B (bring your own bombs), Question, Forest and if you like rap, you might enjoy the song *I-E-A-I-A-I-O* (fun fact: it spells idealization- just without the consonants)! I really like this one! :)
I hope you'll check more from this band! I know it's chaotic and the lyrics are abstract, but I still think it's an awesome band! :D

I personally wouldn't say anything in their discog is slow.... There are songs that are on the more mellow side like Soldier Side, and Question! But it's all still very much on the hard end of the rock genre.
Both Vocalists are mind bogglingly good solo, combine them, and what you've got is something unimaginably special. It's really hard to pin system of a down to any one genre. Toxicity is certainly somewhere between Hard Rock, and industrial metal, and that's the thing with every single one of their songs is they verge on different territory constantly.
This is going to sound stupid because it kind of is. System of a Down is very under appreciated in my opinion. Yeah they're fucking huge.... But my god do they deserve so much praise. The songs you will get suggested to react to are all straight fucking bangers for sure. But every single song in their discog is absolutely worth listning to. People here their big songs and then move on but seriously Listen to "she's like heroin", and tell me it is not one of the most unique songs you've ever heard, so unique, I used to fucking hate the song, but now it might actually be one of my favorite songs SOAD did, just because of how fucking bizzare it is.

  • @Mister_Sir_

SOAD is fairly lyric heavy too. Not a bad idea to at least have them pulled up on the side. As far as for song pace and their transitions they utilize that all the time.
The contrasting effect is that the heavy stuff feels heavier next to the soft. Think baseball maybe where your fast balls seem fastest when you throw in a change up in between.

I think for music/song reactions it's best to first react to it without captions, and then look up the lyrics for a 'lyrical breakdown' afterwards. In a youtube sense this would lengthen your videos (and it'd be best if it was one long video rather than 2 separate videos). Also on the other side, for songs that don't have music videos specifically, you can do reactions to songs that have official and/or fan made lyric videos.

Having the lyrics there is good, man. I think this tune is about attention deficit disorder or something. If I had a favorite band; it might be "System", or it might be "Tool", or it might be "Rage"... or it might be Tommy Emmanuel guitarist extraordinaire...
I'm going to strongly suggest that you listen to and react to some "Rage Against The Machine" man... I don't want to give it away by telling you what they're like... But I will say- that you in particular should check these guys out. You'll see what I mean.
    peace.

Dud...if you want to know what he is saying without captions just pick the lyrics and look at them when you pause the video to say something...this way you can concentrate on the video and the meaning of the song at the same time.
