So many of my gringo friends get turned off if you mention sardines, and/or anchovies. I just roll my eyes at their naïve responses. Go to Spain or Portugal and this type of food is commonplace. My dad will be 96 next week. Still spry and healthy. He and mom taught me how much flavor (glutamates) is added to so many dishes with these beautiful little fishes. So thankful for your channel. By the way, I made breaded and pan fried sardines from your video and they were sooo good. You’re a good man!!!
I absolutely love sardines, but the only way I've ever eaten sardines is directly from the tin, along with a side of saltines style crackers and a cold beer. This is seriously the only way I would ever eat sardines all of my life and I'm in my 70's. Yesterday, I made the above recipe. It was seriously good and I can't even imagine ever going back to my old way of eating sardines. If anyone seeing this recipe thinks of waiting until winter to try this, don't wait. Make this recipe using the freshest cucumber and most summer fresh tomato you can find. I used a sourdough baggette. It was soooo good!
Never thought to make sardines into a salad! Thanks for this and every other video you post. I’ve made a couple of your recipes and have enjoyed every one.
With Campari tomatoes on the Vine and I have some fresh basil, the bread is from an Italian cafe , I will use Ficcoccio.. and I will drizzle the olive oil from the sardines can .. WOW
I love sardines and try to eat them as often as possible because of their nutritional value. Never even thought to use them for a sandwich but this sounds seriously delicious!
I LOVE SARDINES, a Cuban family friend told me " wild caught , skinless, boneless IN OLIVE OIL"... " NON GMO "... I LOVE SARDINES ... AND I LOVE SPAIN ON A FORK ‼️❤❤❤❤ you are truly the BEST CHEF EVERYTHING DELICIOUS AND EASY TO PREPARE SO WE CAN ENJOY THE RESULTS , BRAVO AGAIN ‼️
Just made this recipe tonight. I did not have celery, so I used some red pepper. Add also some chopped black olives and chili pepper. I love it! Easy and health. Gracias Alberto, I am from Brazil! Saludos!
Albert: Delicious. I❤SARDINES in olive oil, and always have some in my pantry (like now). I will certianly make this one. Thanks again. (Fan from San Francisco, California.) *!!~
Hi Albert! Hope you are having a good Sunday! Nice sandwich! I cook with sardines sometimes too. Sardines are very tasty with mashed potatoes! When autumn is here for real, I am gonna cook soups. I would love to make sandwiches with the soups, so all your sandwich recipes are very inspirational! For now, the summer heat has been back, but I think it will get colder next week. Yippi!! Thank you for this tasty recipe! Have a good Sunday!! ❤❤❤
Try malupan! It is a Srilankan bun made by combining sardines, potatoes and spices. It's not very difficult to make and it's very delicious 😊 You may want to reduce the chillies recommended in the recipes online though cause it may be too spicy.
Love canned sardines - and of course you leave the bones in! Especially since you're already adding crunchy celery to the salad, the calcium-rich bones just add more crunch and texture. This looks so good, and so easy. (What do you use the drained sardine oil for?) Thanks, Albert!
OFF TOPIC... made 🐟 soup tonight 😋 followed recipe except switched pasta for potatoes, added one grated tomato as you do, couple shrimp and smidgen of frozen bay scallops and it was off the chart👍👍👍. Hopefully I'll be able to duplicate it, but man o man, it was delicious. Husband wanted seconds but only made 2 soup bowls. Not big on leftover fish. You are the best.❤❤❤
My grandfather used to eat sardine sandwiches. His recipe was a bit different though. Plain white bread, a thick slice of white onion, mayo, ketchup, and whole sardines straight from the can. It smelled even worse than it looked, but he loved eating it for some reason.
I will never forget a hilarious experience I had on the NYC subway long ago. On a VERY crowded subway car, all of a sudden a skinny young man in a suit and tie just opened up a can of sardines and started eating them with his fingers. The carful of people immediately started to moan and yell, pinching their noses. Some people just stared malevolently. The young man looked around, saw that the whole carload of people were hating on him, and he stood up. Very politely and solemnly, he said, in a loud voice "I can see that I have made a terrible mistake, and I sincerely apologize to everyone on this car." I'm happy to report that, after a brief, stunned silence, pretty much everyone on the car burst out laughing, and some even applauded!
That Sardine salad would be amazing served on a crostini as an appetizer too!
Absolutely! Much love :)
What a great new way to use sardines! When making these types of mayonnaise-based salads, I substitute half the mayo with greek yogurt.
Great idea. Gotta try it! Thanks.
Sounds great! Much love :)

Delicious and healthy! Great swap for mercury-laden tuna👍

Sardines are also one of the most eco-friendly fish you can eat. Good for you, good for the ocean, good for the planet -- what's not to love?
I eat sardines in water, with 1 cup cooked brown rice and use roasted seaweed squares to put about a tsp in each one. So good.
Never thought to make sardines into a salad!

Rocket would be better than tasteless iceberg..
