      They stopped being sold in Sweden around 2002. They were sold again recently but no one bought it so they stopped again. I’ve only seen a handful in my life. My dad had an estate version of the 2.2 Camry automatic in this colour .
    Never broke, never failed, it just ran and ran.
    He got bored, traded it in, had various cars and one day in hebden bridge it was parked up on a street, looking better than ever.
    We talked to the guy who bought it from the trade in garage, he had it 9 years since my dad traded it.
    He said a wheel barrow of money would not buy it back from him.
    Never forget the regret my dad had for letting it go.
    Out of all the cars he had, that was his legend.
    Had he still been here, I would have bought him this.
    Thanks for bringing back fond memories.

    Here in Qatar, this model of Camry was everywhere in the 2000s and every Camry since the has become the saloon car of choice (although these days, they get a decent run for their money from Kia with the K5 (formerly the Optima) and the Hyundai Sonata). These 3 cars are the weapons of choice of taxi drivers which tells you a lot about reliability and durability. The Camry in particular was ubiquitous. As a point of interest, in the Middle East, we got a V6 version called the Toyota Aurion which was built by Toyota in Australia in right hand drive and also in parts of Asia in left hand drive for sale here. Ostensibly a Camry with the V6 engine, it was sold as a more luxurious option over the Camry. Nerdy fact for today.

    • @qlus
      @qlus 7 днів тому

      so is the aurion like an avalon is the US?

    • @Gaulty62
      @Gaulty62 7 днів тому +2

      @@qlus no - the Aurion had the exactly same body as the Camry just more luxuriously equipped. The Avalon was a completely different car - much bigger than the Camry/Aurion. The Avalon is still sold here in Qatar although not a big seller - the locals prefer to splash the cash on Lexus models.

    • @IntriguingInternet
      @IntriguingInternet 7 днів тому +2

      @@qlus The Aurion made for the Australian market has the 2GR-FE engine which I believe some US Avalons have. The Camry in Aus stopped using V6 engines whereas the Aurion took over with the 2GR. They use the same shell as the gen 6 / 40 series camry but with different front and back ends. They have sport models with stiffer suspension etc. I own a TRD Aurion which is a limited run (~620 made) model which has different suspension still, larger wheels, bigger brakes, unique body kit and a supercharger which was the most powerful (241 kw / 325hp) FWD car in it's time. The engine package is used in modern cars made by Lotus even today.

    A Camry 2,2 Sport is a great choice . It is unique to the UK and was developed by the British importer TGB . It was felt this model year was a bit bland and needed something more stylish to market and advertise as a halo model. There was also a price gap between the stock 2.2 GL and the top 3.0 V6 (auto only) model. , The interior was re-trimmed in the UK by Connolly leather and unique 17 in wheels were developed along with a unique front grille, ,and sport badge 0n the rear side window frame. Both Manual and autos were offered. Only a few hundred were made available for sale. They are very rare and I have only seen a couple on the road over the last few years. Anorak fact ex USA aged Camry's are very popular in West Africa for a second life as they are so dependable.

    I ran one of these for a couple of years. Drove all the way up to Aberdeen (from London) to purchase it. On the way back the car that we used to drive up to Aberdeen broke down and was AA'd back. All piled into the Camry which was on 145k. It felt like a new car and everything worked. I drove that car down to Greece and back a few times. Never did it miss a beat. I eventually sold it in Greece for a lot more than I bought it for. It sat on 197k when I sold it and still everything worked. Wonderful machines.

    What a hugely appealing car. I have always had a soft spot for Camrys after parents had an immaculate 1986 2.0GLi in white with a mad blue velour interior and a wicked green digital dash. It was faultless even when my dad sold to a guy at his work when he moved abroad to work for a few years. And having lived in the States for a few years as a kid in the late 80s, I saw them everywhere - especially the V6 version just like the one in the granny ad 😂 I know the profit wasn't great but you saved a real surviving modern classic there. Huge well done! I find cars like this vastly more interesting and appealing than anything from the mid-2010s onwards

As I mentioned more than once in your videos, these cars with maintenance just keep going, and that generation were designed and built with home maintenance in mind, all based on a typical American owner, doing 20k per year and expecting 10 years of zero defects. Your car should if the servicing is good be good for 300k without effort

    That's a car I would go for being an older bloke that I am. Toyota Camry totally bullet proof, and from the same family as the Lexus LS 400 series and on to more Lexus editions that came out later on and now. The Camry is one of those cars from the similar stable as Lexus, I have had 3 Lexus LS series cars and not one thing went wrong or broke with any of them, not a screw coming loose or anything! The Camry will be the same type of car and this is why its still going and will continue to go for another 20 years easy! That is my car! Love em!

    great video again Matt - I like the story that this car has been through a main dealer, the garage you bought it from and then yourself, and still somebody is going to get a really nice car for £2.5k that's serviced, MOT'd with no advisories looks good and should give them several years good value motoring - careful you're going to single handedly give the motor trade a good name!

    My Evora has at its heart a V6 Engine from Toyota Camry, it’s done 35.000 miles with absolutely no issues; 0.60 3.9 seconds with its Supercharger, but it’s the mid-range grunt and sound of supercharger under load is epic.

    All models of the Camry are hugely popular here in Oz. You can't kill them particularly the variants around the era of your new one, either 4 pot or V6. The estate version are great load carriers as well.

    That's an XV20 (4th Gen Camry) in the US
    They're a tough as nails workhorse even to this day, some say better quality than the later 6/7th gen Camry
    That 2.2 5S-FE 4 cylinder is bomb proof, as long as the oil pump seal doesn't blow out and jettison all the oil in seconds
    You could get these with a 3.0 V6 and a TRD supercharger kit back in the day 😂
    That keyfob is factory

    I worked in a Toyota dealership back in the 90's when this car was about to be launched. The Camry sport is 10 times better looking than any run of the mill regular Camry. It looks great with the side skirts. It's a shame it did not have the spoiler with it. I remember it being a lot of money for the market that Toyota were trying to get to buy the car. It was the same story for the 1990's Toyota Forerunner in England.

    I spent a lot of time in these during my time in the US in the early and mid 90's. Such a quiet and comfortable car. I had always wonder why the Camry wasn't visual in the UK, and now Matt, you have explained, I had no idea the price of a Camry, and I think you hit the nail on the head regarding 'Badge Snobs'. At that time it was a lot of car for a Toyota, and I would say the German brands were more desirable.

    I used to work with a guy in the US who owned a 100,000 mile-plus Camry. He never paid for any servicing, and refused to do anything other than oil changes. He did this for years and he thought I was mad for servicing my similar mileage BMW 528i. His Camry never had anything go wrong, and my BMW suffered several really high cost failures. Those Camrys were bomb-proof.

    My dad had an earlier generation 1987 Camry estate in the 90s. We loved it, really smart, super comfortable and utterly dependable, one of the best cars our family ever had without a doubt. Although the struts failed for the boot so we did have to prop it up with a piece of wood! I think he eventually sold it with almost 190,000 miles on the clock and still misses it now.

    Matt, with cars like the this, that's probably going to be bought by an enthusiast, it might be a good idea to ask your mechanic to take a few pictures of the underside as well, and add them to the listing. Especially this one having a rebuit suspension.

    I had an S reg one of these in grey metallic paint with grey leather interior. It handled really well. However, it wasn't a quick car. The acceleration was quite pedestrian. But it worked well and would happily cruise on motorways all day long. I sold it with 144K miles on it.

    Hired a couple of two-litre auto Camrys in Western Australia in 98 and 2000. They were brilliant, easy on fuel, good aircon and comfortable over long distances (WA IS A BIG state). Have never understood why they are so rare in the UK. But you may well be right about UK badge snobbery. I'm sure whoever buys this car will be getting a bargain even if it is quite old in absolute terms!

    I saw one of these in the same colourlast Weekend in Llandudno on a T-reg a 2.2 Sport and it was mint. Good cars Toyota good reliable petrol engines I own a 18 year old Avensis 1.8 VVTi petrol had it 6 years starts first time every time and passes every MOT I get about 36-40 mpg on a run and running it on E5 petrol no plans to get rid, its a keeper. Don't touch the Diesel engine cars not reliable the engines are not made by Toyota but BMW not a good engine why Toyota went this way I don't know it's a bad move for them. This is my first Toyota but my sixth Japanese car I had 5 Nissan's in the past, 3 Sunny's and 2 Primera's all good cars with no problems apart from letting them go for another one.
    £1500 for a Camry a lot of car for very little money, good video

    Another great vid pal. It’s crazy to think back in the late 90’s if you went for a more premium branded car that would rival this say a Mercedes c class for example I can guarantee 26 years and 150,000 miles later it would not be here to tell any story! It would have rusted away in front of your eyes some time ago!.

    That's an absolute belter. If the future owners look after it as well as the previous ones, it'll last forever. That engine is just never going to be stressed on public roads at sensible speeds, so all they ned to do is maintain it cosmetically and it will go on and on and on. The badge may not be premium, but the quality is far above almost everything the so-called premium brands have produced.

    I've had 2 of this generation Camry over the years in Australia. I think in Aus we have the V6 and a 2.4L 4 cylinder - but I could be wrong - and both of mine were the 4 cylinder variants and both were sadly plaqued with oil leaks that were expensive to fix - expensive for a low income earner at the time - but I will confess not much else went wrong with them. 1 was a sedan and 18 years old, which I disliked immensilly, but the other was a wagon and that was very practical. Good luck to the new owner.
