Thank you
thanks alot.

Thanks a lot
When you shred the zote soap let it sit out for two days then crumble it with your hands to make a power. Two days of drying the shredded zote.
joan barbe
joan barber cool
Thank you
They actually sell the zote soap in flakes. I think its only the white one though not the pink. Either way both smell so fresh and clean. Im actually going to attempt to make my own laundry soap today. Wish me luck. :-)
Hey, did you make it??? , hw does it turned out, plzz reply , coz if its wrks , thn i will try it too!!,
Hi! I use a similar recipe and I wanted to add a little tip for you. I don't grate my soap. I wouldn't mind doing it, but I feel like it would end up being heavier and wouldn't disperse as evenly or dissolve quickly. I use the blade on my food processor to chop it, after I've cut it into larger cubes, then pulse it. I take my time so that the soap doesn't melt from the heat. Let it cool as needed, Then I add some of the washing soda in to continue grinding it up. after the washing soda is added, it grinds down to almost the same size as the powder. I have a large food processor and I have to do it in batches so I have room to add the WS, but it takes no time and I don't have to grate the soap or worry about it not dissolving quickly in the washer. I also spread it out in a trash back to allow it to cool for a few minutes while I'm gathering the rest of my supplies. It's worked well for me! Hope this helps!
My recipe I just made
1 box of borax
1 box of washing soda
1 box of baking soda
4 bars of fels naptha laundry soap bars which I shredded I used those because thats, what was available, but they gave a nice citrus scent.
And 1 container of the downy unstoppables crystals in fresh scent and 1 container of downy unstoppables fresh protect febreeze scent odor eliminator. It smells so good.
Is the baking soda optional?
Cost????
I made mine with
3 bars grated (and pulsed) .97 each
1 box 20 mule team borax $4.47
1 box arm & hammer super washing suds $4.12
2 3 lb oxi clean (Dollar general brand) $4.00 each
2 cups baking soda .82
2 Arm & Hammer clean Scentations in wash scent booster- odor blaster $3.97 each
Total before taxes 28.26
For almost 600 loads of laundry .... WELL WORTH IT!
Does this keep black cloths from loosing their colour? This recipe looks so amazing and wonderful
Thnx for this. I make my own. Its nice to see how other make theirs. I also had to add another crystals because it wasn’t fragrant enough for me.
I use a similar recipe to what you have here. Only I make mine in tabs. As this video is a couple of years old, I am not certain if you will read this or not. However, I wanted to give you a suggestion as to what I do for my Zote soap. I do use a food processor, and mine (like you said yours does) has the larger holes. However, I also have my bottom blade in at the same time that I am shredding the soap. This causes the soap to end up as a fine granule. I think it mixes better that way and is so much quicker and easier that way. Now I also use Fels Naptha in my recipe, and I shred them together. Thus I am uncertain if the two together may actual be causing it to granulate, but certainly worth trying.
Thanks for the advice! I actually haven't made a new batch in awhile, because we have moved a few times. But I definitely miss it! I will try this out in my next batch soon :-)
Love ❤ your recipe I'm going to make it.
The zote soap is from mexico my family members use that soap for baby 👶 laundry detergent and is good for allergies to.
Hope 🙏 your son is much better by now.
Yadira Ortiz Thank you! And my son is better :-)
when you make your soap mix it all up in a trash bag so much easier to mix
I have found that if you grate the Zote ahead of time and leave it spread out to dry, it will "break" even smaller very easy. I put it in a ziploc bag after it has dried out and shake it around. It makes it more of a powdery consistency.
Finely powdered soap may counterproductive because you want water softeners to dissolve and disperse completely before soap does.
Thanks for posting this. I will most certainly try this, in the next couple of days.
Most definitely I m going to try
Please mention the name n quantity of the products. .Thank you in advance
This homemade recipe is amazing. We’re a ranching family so our clothes to get extremely dirty and this stuff works amazingly! I do laundry about 3 times a week and it still lasts most of a year.
It delivers only a penny’s weight of soap per load.
my mom actually makes her own laundry soap just like this! it's so much fun! and plus it saves you lots of money.😁
And it smells wonderful!!! Thanks for watching!
Same recipe?
Hey my name is Trevor, and I was wondering how all the powders dissolve in the washer can I use cold water or do I have to use warm or hot water?, I do make the home made liquid laundry detergent and I dissolve everything first, but I was wondering about the powders dissolve in the washing machine
New sub😊 I make my own laundry detergent too. A tip someone gave was to freeze the zote before you grate it and that it shreds without sticking into the tiny pieces. Unfortunately I had already done my soap and yep that wasn't the best part of the recipe. But I still have a couple months leftover so mine will have lasted almost a year too. Another point someone made was that the original formula always had just washing soda not baking soda and they have seen the craze all over UA-cam of mixing both in. They said while baking soda is a great cleaner on its own, you should pick one or the other to put in. So to make a long story longer 😂 I'm making mine this next time with only baking soda and see after a few weeks how it goes. I can always add washing soda later if I don't feel I get the same clean results.
How many people are washing for that it lasted almost a year??
mk17rmb household of 2 adults and 3 pets. But I don’t use that anymore. My skin is very sensitive and it did eventually start to affect me and caused itching. I had to change to the sensitive skin laundry detergent and wool dryer balls because even the dryer sheets were bothering me.
I use the same recipe for making soap and have found if you open the packages for the Zote soap and let them dry for a day or so it's much easier to shred :)
Thanks! I will give that a try for sure next time!
I shred the soap first and let it dry out for two days and then put it in the processor and it doesn't over heat or get stuck in blades, comes out to a fine consistency without chunks
Did you find that Purex crystals do not irritate your son's skin? Just wondering, what makes it less irritating, as I am looking for that too.
what kind of purex crystals do you use.
I really like it and you gave me a good idea.
I found ZOTE flakes in Wal-Mart.
Valencia Whitlow I use the flakes too!!❤️
Thanks! Great news. I hate grating. Amazon sells grating gloves!
Wow nevet looked
Less than the bar soap & more expensive though.
Great job! Hope your son is doing better.
Thank you for the tips.
I've been looking for an HE safe "recipe" lol is this one? and are you still using it?
is it safe to use for baby clothes
The first time I made this detergent I copied a recipe from YT. It was 2c borax 2c washing soda and 1 c baking soda for every 2 bars of Zote soap. It was not the best for my skin. Today I followed a recipe by Arm& hammer site, using 2c washing soda 1/2c baking soda 1 bar soap. Thanks for sharing
Just an FYI - The Purex Crystals are not softeners - they are only fragrance beads.
SNAP Vegan
Wrong. Contains sodium silicate. Used as a coagulant in water treatment.
But you could still pour that into the machine later.
You are just too darned cute! I love your energy, very calming and comfortable, it is. You are absolutely made for the camera; did you miss your calling? lol Also, this is the BEST rec
Thank you for such awesome compliments! I haven't made a video in awhile and I truly miss making them. Your kind words encourage me create one again! Thanks for your support!
Interesting... I love saving $. Does this soap make dark clothes fade?
So you used two bars of Zote and a box of each. I found the blue Zote on eBay but it smells so good. I will do it with the blue and pink.
great video. thanks
Thank you for watching!
just subbed,love this;)thx so much!
Thank you!
I have done this recipe and it really messed up my husband black t shirts. It whitens whatever u put it on.
If u r going to use this recipe I suggest putting it into the water before u add ur clothes and letting it dissolve.
Borax is 1/10 as soluble as washing soda. It’s not needed.
Coming from someone who had severe allergic reactions (randomly when I was in high school) I would schedule an appointment with an allergist immeditely to get a for sure answer. I was allergic to common household dust, grass, and fish. And diagnosed with angioadema (spelled wrong lol) and it didn't start affecting me until I was lder.
Hello! Thank you for the suggestions! My son is a senior in high school now and hasn't had any reactions since then. I, on the other hand just had an allergic reaction to Gain detergent...I haven't been able to make this soap in awhile. I seem to be having reactions to a lot of the products that I have used all my life. I feel like I'm more sensitive to everything since turning 40 :-(
Cut the soap into pieces and put in your food processor
Do you put the detergent directly on the clothes or in the dispenser?
I would put the soap in the tub and start the water before putting in the clothes
Do u use one bar of soap or two ?
Thanks for sharing
Thank's.

Hi Teri me too
Sorry so late... but I’ll email you rn!!
@filofaxygirl
U changed your UA-cam name???
Do you still use homemade laundry soap? If so, have you had problems with fading?
I haven't been using the homemade soap, so I can't say if I have noticed fading. I can say that I miss my homemade soap and as soon as I am done with this Tide, I am making another batch :-)
Safe for dark clothes?
which is the disinfectant
Does this soap melt in a clump if it gets hot? I do not have a laundry room and our washer and dryer are in our garage wanted to know if it would melt. I live in California and summer time gets hot.
Kat Ato Actually, I'm not sure. The Zote soap is pretty soft, and may melt in the heat. I will have to put some in my garage and get back to you! (I'm in California too)
FiloFaxyGirl
Thanks! I really want to make my own but need to figure out the storing situation.
eat.run.plan.repeat .p
do you use a liquid fabric after? or does this alone make your clothes soft?
I just use this :-)
RECIPE:
1 cup of hair conditioner
1-1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar
3 cups of hot water
Mix together vinegar and conditioner in a bowl. Slowly add hot water into conditioner and vinegar mixture until mixed well, and store in a covered container.
Add 1/4 cup per load.

i have tried this and even added essential oils but my clothes smell like vinegar, no matter what variation!! i want clothes to smell good not like stinky vinegar eew lol.
That soap is interesting. Actually looks pretty when done! Do you know if it's ok to use in High Efficiency Washers? I hope your son feels better soon. TFS! :)
Yes, it is safe. I have an HE washer, which is why I like to use the smaller side of the cheese grater. You can even add a little water to it, to help it dissolve and flow faster. And my son is doing much better, thank you!
I'm using an old washer and was worried about when the washer would go down and if I upgrade. Is this safe in a new washer?
Honestly, I don't know if all the ingredients are safe for newer washers. :-(
Yes, everything says HE in the packages. You just have to only use one to two table spoons.
On the packages I meant.
Sorry to hear your son having allergic reaction. When I was little I wound up getting hives from powder from avon. I broke out all over the place so to this day I try to stay away from any type of powder. I buy purex when it's 1.99 on sale and I normally but like 4 bottles at a time when it's at that price so I try to stock up on the stuff. I'm a coupon shopper and I watch my prices. When I was a girl scout many many years ago I was a penpal. I no longer write letters but am still in contact with some penpals through facebook and e-mail. I'd love to start writing again. I live in NJ. Thanks for telling me walmart was the place to go to get the soap. Will try to venture and do this one day.
Thank goodness the hives are starting to go away, but I am going to have him tested when he is all better. He is 14, so this is something I would have expected to encounter at a younger age. And that is great to know about the Purex! I will also email you about the Penpal writing!
You don't show the ingredients you are using, except grating the zone soap and I saw borax and the crystals!
skip to 5:47 if you want to actually see how it's done
And you only need a table spoon of it for normal loads. Large loads use two table spoons. Your cap looks about 4 or 5 tablespoons. But of course use what you want. Just a thought. Lol
There are three lines on the cap. The first one measures 1tbl spoon and so on.
joan barber I am wondering if the extra Purex Crystals would mean adding a bit more detergent to each load 🤔
does anyone know if this fades color clothes? I like the recipe but powder detergent fade dark colors...but I notice it contains oxyclean rt? so have anyone had problems with clothes fading on dark colors?
I want to know that too ....
I want to know that too ....
I use this all the time and haven't noticed fading. I switch between fels naptha and Zote.
I have been using this for a couple of years now and I haven't noticed any fading in our clothing.
Did you have any problems with the Borax damaging your clothes? Thank you for sharing.
I haven't had any problems with it damaging my clothes, but I haven't used it more than about two batches at a time. Then I forget to make a new batch and have to grab a store brand. I will say that I miss this soap! I am actually going to finish up the brand I have and then go back to this. My clothes come out so much softer and smell so much better!
Heard oxy clean is not good can bleach dark colors 🤷
Best recipe. Thanks, I have everything except the containers and the crystals. I can't wait to try. Thank you so very much.
Do you use fabric sheets afterwards when you dry your clothes?
There are horrible chemicals in bounce and other fabric softeners. Make your own instead that is better for you and the environment.
RECIPE:
1 cup of hair conditioner
1-1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar
3 cups of hot water
Mix together vinegar and conditioner in a bowl. Slowly add hot water into conditioner and vinegar mixture until mixed well, and store in a covered container.
Add 1/4 cup per load.
What is the recipe for the laundry detergent? would you please give the measurements?
See link in description.
If you want your shit clean, add a tablespoon or so of tri-sodium phosphate to each load. You can even use this by itself, though it doesn't have a fragrance. Try it. It used to be in both washing machine and dish washer detergents, and it works magnificently. You can buy it at the hardware store in the paint section for dirt cheap. Don't believe me? Just try it.
+Backstabbio Hi What is this product sold as? Is it just sold as Tri-Sodium Phosphate at the hardware store?
+Srineeth Jayanthi Its near paint products, here is what they sell at the Home Depot m.homedepot.com/p/SAVOGRAN-1-lb-Box-TSP-Heavy-Duty-Cleaner-10621/202935861

Can I replace the bórax? If you know, please let me know
Diana Rodriguez I'm not sure...I'm sorry :-(
you don't have to add it and the detergent still works
I notice it is not sudsy, is this the way it is ?
Deborah Goodar yes u don't need bubbles to get ur cloths clean

Can you make this without the Borax?
Honestly, I'm not sure. This is a recipe that I found on the internet that I enjoyed using very much. I'm not sure what each ingredient does, and how it will affect it if it's omitted.
Sorry I couldn't help more!

She’s clueless. Mindlessly repeating online recipe. Figures...it’s YT.
butterbeliever.com/homemade-laundry-detergent-soap-diy/
Can i use something other then borax?
you do not have to add borax. the Arm and Hammer washing soda is a laundry booster.
Borax is natural and a great cleaner. Why would you not use it?
Oh Cecilia. .neither Fels Naptha nor Zote is reccomended for HE Washers. I wish it was, but it will eventually clog up the draining pipe and may stick to the pipe that drains the water. Read on back of the Package of Shaved Fels Naptha on the back it will tell its NOT RECCOMENDED for HE washers. I'll stick with my Tide or Gain in HE only
Both bars say HE Washer on them.
So few questions: Would you consider this a natural laundry detergent? Is it good for kids who have sensitive skin?
Hello, I don't think I would consider this a natural detergent. It's just more of a homemade one. I used to love making it because it smelled so good and I didn't have to use very much of it to get my clothes clean and fresh. I felt like they came out very soft too. My son had an allergic reaction to something...we still don't know what caused it and he's 18 now, so I thought it might have been the detergent at the time. This was safe for the both of us to use, but I know everyone's body can react differently. I would love to say that I still make this detergent, but time and space have been limited for me. And I haven't found a detergent that I love as much to this day :-(

It’s worthless.

Why don’t you just shred some into the washer when your gonna wash ??? Everyone does this method,, wouldn’t it be easy just to shred some in there ? Does someone know
BE A LOT OF TROUBLE TO DO IT EACH LOAD....
Is that ok to for dark color cloths ???
I did not have any trouble with dark colors fading. Honestly, I have moved a few times recently and haven't had time to make a new batch. I have been using store brands and i really miss my homemade soap. It just made my clothes so much softer and they smelled so pretty!
+FiloFaxyGirl thank you for reply 😊I m going laundry now .....thanks dear
I make mine with basically all the same ingredients. I shred my soap and then mix it with the washing soda. I then put it through my food processor. Afterward I add and mix the remaining ingredients. Once they are all added and mixed well I put them through my food processor again. I end up having laundry detergent that is very fine and much like the detergents in the store. This helps me be a little more relaxed about it possibly clogging my machine in the future. I just spoke with a woman at a store who told me her friend's washing machine was ruined and they blamed it on her homemade laundry detergent. They said it clogged her machine. I will also do a good cleaning in my machine on a regular basis, monthly or so to prevent clogging
Great advice!

purex crystals is not a softener...its a fragrance pellet
It's a fabric softener also. Says on the bottle.

The way this product is described on the packaging is misleading. Purex crystals are not primarily a fabric softener, rather they are a scent booster and in fact, the words "fabric softener" have been removed from the new packaging and replaced with "laundry enhancer" which is much more accurate.

Is borax really necessary? I hear would be harmful for kids if use too much too often. Any thought on borax?
I wish I could tell you, but I am not sure. Sorry, but thank you for watching!
Borax is not toxic. Boric Acid, however IS toxic. Borax is as toxic as salt and is naturally found like table salt.
crunchybetty.com/getting-to-the-bottom-of-borax-is-it-safe-or-not
Botax is boron and other natural minerals. You can even mix it in water and drink it for your health. I wouldn't think it would be too harsh.
artificial ingrediants... ugh... still looking for natural laundry detergent.
Hey. you can just use baking soda, the washing soda and fels naptha laundry soap bars
just use pure Castille soap bars, baking soda, washing soda and essential oils for fragrance.

IVELISSE HARRINGTON, M.S. ,or even use Vinegar with the favourite essential oils in the fabric softeners dispenser

Oxyclean decomposes in water. Hydrogen peroxide that it releases decomposes to yield oxygen and water. Sorry, you won’t have any bleaching activity.
Your understanding of chemistry is atrocious.

Jeez...if you going to do a "recipe" - try bloody listing the ingredients and their respective amounts. You expect me to listen to you for nothing?!?!
Two different water softeners? No explanation why. Note that baking soda is not effective as a water softener. Omit it.
Washing mostly with salty water. This is not a detergent. The only surfactant is bar soap. Only 0.09 oz of soap per load. Little more than the weight of a dime!
Will deposit soap scum. Rinse with vinegar.
