Its always nice when the most CRISPY man alive posts a video. And its even better when you're in a car with nothing to do. And its EVEN BETTER when its a CRISPY lore video.
Something pretty weird happened to me when I first encountered one of these. I was returning to my seatruck, but then I accidentally removed one of my modules instead of getting back in. Then, the chelicerate tried to attack me, so I entered the back module of the seatruck and somehow, it put both of the modules back on the seatruck and didn’t even damage anything. I think of him as a friend now.
So if it’s name is any indication, the chelicerate is an arthropod. Therefore, that thing is basically a big strange underwater crustacean. Or big swimmy crab of death.
I remember my first encounter with one of these deadly shrimp boys. I was making my way back from the huge shipwreck near Magurites base, making my way up the slope towards the purple steam vents. I heard a blood curdling scream and just kinda froze not wanting to look back but I tried to just keep going forward. Next thing I know I'm spun a full 180° and I see 4 mandibles just clamping down on my seatruck. My heart quite literally jumped into my mouth and I let out a huge Yelp. I've absolutely loved and hated these creature's ever since. Definitely one of the creepiest I've come across.
the funniest part was you driving around the scaly platypuses in the sea truck. I put "The only thing they fear is you"(.mp3) in my game files and I blast it in the sea truck while ramming them and they honestly die in one slam from a full speed sea truck lol.
My personal theory for the void chelicerate is that they suffer a mutation in the petuitary gland (or their version of it) and the hormone that is normally released to stop growth is never activated, causing uncontrolled. Due to their increased size and the tighter space of Sector Zero, these chelicerates move to the open space of the void. Collisions with terran could be the cause of some of their scars. This could be why there are so few as, the ones we see are the largest they can get before their muscles can't keep up with their growth. It also explains the less damage as their muscles are weaker.

as an entomologist who also studies many other arthropods I got really excited when I saw this thing was called a chelicerate. but it doesn't even seen to have chelicerae (the body part that you have to have to be classified as a chelicerate). infact, the game describes it as having mandibles, which would make it a mandibulate. it's also seperated into four, which I don't think I've ever seen any real chelicerate have more than two chelicera. so the chelicerate leviathan isn't even a real chelicerate, it's a mandibulate
So I made a video on my channel about how to find the phase gate at the ending location but some comments were asking why the teleporter room was not there or there was a barrier in front of the door I said maybe because it was a old save file that was made ages before 1.0 was released? Do you know?
The Chelicerate scares me as much as the reaper, I think it's because its mandibles make it look like a beak and a giant friendly shrimp, but once you see its mouth open, it doesn't look so friendly anymore.
I still think the Reapers are far more intimidating, because you *know* just by their appearance that they're a big threat to you. And on top of that, there's far more of them in their game than there are Chelicerates in Below Zero. *And* unlike Below Zero with the Chelicerate, it is next to impossible to not encounter a Reaper Leviathan at least once, especially considering that they patrol around the Aurora, which is an area you are forced to explore if you wish to beat the game. Plus, the Reaper is just far scarier, especially given the roars they make, and the fact that the biomes they live in make it rather difficult to locate them in the first place.
@@TheLastBacon nope. During the beta, I damaged the hotel trying to kill them. I later turned them into an observing attraction while still a bit of the hotel is unfinished
my theory (that I heard somewhere, I don't remember) about why the void chelicerate has a weaker attack is because the void is cold and dead, making it hard for the chelicerate to find food. this gives them that pale look to them (almost the same color as the red variant's underbelly). the lack of food maybe corrodes their skin tone, giving them that moldy-looking appearance. but hey, who knows?
I went into this game being dead inside, and unaffected by leviathan jumpscares. At this point, when I get grabbed by a leviathan, I’m just like, ‘Mate, can you not? I just go this thing painted…’

GREAT JOB on the story telling!
Really glad you enjoyed! :)
Its always nice when the most CRISPY man alive posts a video. And its even better when you're in a car with nothing to do. And its EVEN BETTER when its a CRISPY lore video.
Yay big thanks to the crispiest commenter :)
Huh that is quite weird for sure :)
finaly a lore from the chelicerate
Yep! The time has come :)
Yay! Subnautica, Below Zero lore! Exited for this one :)
Really hope you enjoy! :)
@@TheLastBacon It was great. Loving your content
So if it’s name is any indication, the chelicerate is an arthropod. Therefore, that thing is basically a big strange underwater crustacean. Or big swimmy crab of death.
I suppose so yeah :)
Yes finally a new lore video my favorite series
Yay really hope you enjoy :)
You are one of my most fav youtubers😁😁😁
Thank you very kindly :)
Finally, some leviathan lore!
Really hope you enjoy :)
squidsharkss next plssss
edit: i like the scp like intro very coool
Really glad you enjoyed! :)
Haha love that as a first encounter :) Those mandibles are definitely their best feature!
the funniest part was you driving around the scaly platypuses in the sea truck. I put "The only thing they fear is you"(.mp3) in my game files and I blast it in the sea truck while ramming them and they honestly die in one slam from a full speed sea truck lol.
Haha love that approach :D
ah a fine lore video to add to my collection of my favorite videos
Yay thank you kindly :)
Oh I really like that theory :D
Yeah this guy was really well designed, super alien looking!
Btw Bacon do you have any clue when the gargantuan leviathan mod will be finished?
They sure are! :) And unfortunately I'm not sure about the mod...you should join the dev's discord to learn more.
@@TheLastBacon Do you happen to have a link to the discord? Im not able to find it on their youtube channel nor am i able to find it on any reddit threads.....
"And one very angry shrimp" at the very beginning of the video killed me dude 😭
Haha you can't say it doesn't kinda resemble a shrimp :D
I WAS DEPRIVED OF SUBNAUTICA LORE. THANK YOU SO MUCH
This should help! :)
@@TheLastBacon It indeed helped me
Man im so excited for bz, i played it through on ps4 but i just went straight for story objectives i never even got sidetracked a little, i never even went to the void, i dont know anything about this game. I also played with weather off for extra fps. Now im buyin it on pc and man am i so excited to take my time and obviously play with the weather enables too lol, awesome vid btw! I love the lore vids keep em coming if u can
Awesome! Enjoy :)
As much as I love your gameplay videos, I’m glad to see another one of these videos :)
Really glad you enjoyed! :)
No matter how hard you try, you can’t get below zero to be as scary or scarier than the first game. You just can’t.
Yeah it really isn't as scary as the 1st one :)
it always felt so cheap how they re-used something that'd been around for awhile as the big void deterrent creature.
Yeah I was hoping for a new void creature :)
lets go finally you did a lore vid thx so mush love u
Yay really hope you like it :)
@@TheLastBacon i defently did like it
Seeing these things breach the surface, idk but it puts into perspective their massive size better than anything else
Yeah, especially when you see them next to the player or a vehicle :)
as an entomologist who also studies many other arthropods I got really excited when I saw this thing was called a chelicerate. but it doesn't even seen to have chelicerae (the body part that you have to have to be classified as a chelicerate). infact, the game describes it as having mandibles, which would make it a mandibulate. it's also seperated into four, which I don't think I've ever seen any real chelicerate have more than two chelicera. so the chelicerate leviathan isn't even a real chelicerate, it's a mandibulate
Ah interesting! :) Thank you for the scientific insight!
I remember seeing this thing from a distance. I was so curious.
Then it’s fucking face opened up.
I screamed so goddamn loud
I bet that wasn't a pleasant surprise :)
Thelastbacon has been awaken and finally posted 🙏 😦
Very accurate :)
So I made a video on my channel about how to find the phase gate at the ending location but some comments were asking why the teleporter room was not there or there was a barrier in front of the door I said maybe because it was a old save file that was made ages before 1.0 was released? Do you know?
I haven't actually seen the ending for myself yet! :)
Ok :)
The Chelicerate scares me as much as the reaper, I think it's because its mandibles make it look like a beak and a giant friendly shrimp, but once you see its mouth open, it doesn't look so friendly anymore.
Yeah the mandibles are definitely freaky :)
You should cover the Lilypaddler, Squidshark, or Rock Puncher next, they're some of the most cool non-leviathan creatures in Below Zero
Sounds like a good idea :)
Yay, more lore! Below zero lore, even better.
Yay! Hope you enjoy :)
YES!!!!! YEEEEEESSSS!!! TE SUBNAUTICA BELOW ZERO LORE IS COMIIIIIINGGG!! LOVE YA TLB!!!
Yay thank you! :)
Dude these things are more terrifying then reapers. They are so hard to hear sometimes and are absolutely amazing in details.
They are certainly creepy looking :)
I was waiting for this for so long
Hope you enjoy! :)
new mod adding the feature of eating the shrimp is coming soon
Haha I'd love that :)
I built an entire hotel base in the void. Please call the Void Exterminator
That must be epic to behold :)
@@TheLastBacon nope. During the beta, I damaged the hotel trying to kill them. I later turned them into an observing attraction while still a bit of the hotel is unfinished
Oh that opening was really atmospheric!
Yay really glad you think so! :)
The entry story was amazing. Make some more like that if you can
Really glad you liked it :)
Her:I hate this cold water
The game:*literally gives you heat when you enter the water*
I guess she didn't equip the warm suit :)
Will you even redo the lore videos that you did before the full release if anything has changed. Also love these videos.
I probably should yep :)
When I saw one, I named it Mr Tickles so I could use humor to stop me from crapping myself
Haha lovely choice of name :)
my theory (that I heard somewhere, I don't remember) about why the void chelicerate has a weaker attack is because the void is cold and dead, making it hard for the chelicerate to find food. this gives them that pale look to them (almost the same color as the red variant's underbelly). the lack of food maybe corrodes their skin tone, giving them that moldy-looking appearance. but hey, who knows?
You could be right :) Who knows what they even eat out there...
I went into this game being dead inside, and unaffected by leviathan jumpscares. At this point, when I get grabbed by a leviathan, I’m just like, ‘Mate, can you not? I just go this thing painted…’
Did the original game get you to that point? :)
The chelicherate is chill he usually be chilling
They do be chilling :)
