The ice worms are one of the coolest creatures in the game.
Literally :D
Are some
I’m personally a fan of the Shadow Leviathan but Ice worms are still cool
They sure made my brother’s blood run “cold”
Sorry I had to 😂
I sea what you did there
pun intended?
I find it interesting that they seem to form cemeteries the way elephants do, dying at a specific spot and all. Perhaps the Ice Worms are more social than we think!
Yeah fair point! :) We don't really know much about their social life.
I’ve actually come up with a theory that the ice worms are far more intelligent than one would believe. I was watching their kill animations and they’re extremely cruel and impractical like they’re playing with their food before they go for the kill. At first I thought they maybe kill for sport but what I’ve seen of their kill animations for the snow stalkers they don’t go nearly to the lengths they do to robin. Maybe they know about alterras activity and their mining in the glacial basin. All that vibration would be sure to confuse something that hunts using vibration. The theory suggests that they can tell when somethings a human and when it’s a native creature and that the ice worms want to put on a show and intimidate the humans to make them leave. They roar when they can sense the humans to either lure them in to investigate if they don’t know or to push them away if they do. When in the basin they’ll begin to stalk the human making appearances that would rise tension but not do much in the way of actually hurting them. Then at the end they strike killing violently and dramatically. If the human was traveling in a group this would be sure to scare the humans leading to them wanting to leave forever. Either that or continued work would lead to the ice worm killing all the humans. At the end of the day considering all alterra operations in their territory have ceased we know they were successful…

Thats what she said
I freaking love the Ice Worm's design. It's so cool and unique, it also is extremely terrifying on seeing it for the first time.
Absolutely :) Looks amazing!
@@TheLastBacon Yay. 😄
After the first time I encountered this beast, it just became a nuisance. Constantly knocking me off of my hoverbike, but never threatening my life.
Yeah I do wish they posed a bit more danger :)
Yeah I felt the same until I brought my prawn suit into the area. This thing one shot it. That's how you know it's bad.
I think if it posed more of a threat it would be even more annoying. Imagine a beast you can’t kill, and almost one shots? Unfair if you ask me.
"What to do if you ever come face to face with an ice worm." Ignore it entirely and proceed to run in a straight line to your destination.
Solid strategy - I second that :)

I'm surprised no one has mentioned how Ice Worms are essentially the same as Sandworms from Dune, just with, you know, ice instead of sand
True! :) A bit smaller thankfully!
Bacon, you absolutely feed my curiousity and compelling interest in my love for this game and in every ounce and square inch of lore/information there is regarding it. Thank you so much my guy
Thank YOU for enjoying the content :)
In my opinion, apart from the Frozen Leviathan, the Ice Worm is the best looking leviathan in Below Zero
Also, can we get Ventgarden or Al-An lore?
Frozen leviathan lore already exists

I absolutely love the video game lore series! Thank you for another ''part''
Thank you very kindly :)
I love the animation with the snow stalkers. The first time I saw it I was standing on a high ledge and witnessed this monstrosity toss another predator up in the air and swallow it whole like someone popping candy into their mouth. Absolutely terrified me.
It is super cool yeah :) Also terrifying for sure.
i love how the chellicorate was meant to replace the reaper, but instead the ice worm did it better
Not sure if it replaced the reaper :) But it is certainly very cool!
Great video as always, Bacon! One thing that greatly interests me is the relationship snow stalkers and regular stalkers. Some stalkers from the crater could have swam to Sector Zero, but this is highly unlikely. Really makes you think about how it's possible that certain creatures look so similar to the ones in the crater. Creatures such as the arctic peeper, boomerang, crashfish, bladderfish, hoopfish, and spinefish confuse me since the distance between the crater and Sector Zero is most likely thousands of miles (or 3 weeks drifting on a decomposing reaper leviathan if you want to get specific.) It also makes you think about which area harbored life first. It ALSO makes you think about how many little pockets of life there are on the barren wet rock named 4546B.
I think they probably shared an ancestor at some point in the distant past :)
Bacon. Your narrations are getting more and more sophisticated. I love it.
Really glad you think so! :)
Yay new video! Exited for this one, as ice worms are my favorite leviathans next to reapers ^^
Really hope you like the vid then! :)
iceworms also can launch your prawn up when they try to apear behind you while you run away, making them come up under you to be closer (or something I didn't stop or turn around to check, but they lifted me on jump hight without damage lol)
Must've been quite epic! :)
it can destroy the prawn suit in 4 hits
These videos are so relaxing and nice to listen to. Keep it up, Bacon!
Super glad you think so :)
Unless that things horn is devoid of a single ounce of water outside of the water being poured in to its ducts and unless its horn has a reinforced segment connecting it the the body alkali metals would heat it up at the expense of a pretty sizable explosion that would probably tear that beast apart.
It's just space magic :D Don't even worry about it!
Yes, new Lore Video!!! I love them. It feels like a mini documentation and it's great!
Thank you kindly :) Super glad you like it!
I love how you do a short story to set up the leviathan
Thank you :) I figured it makes the opening more interesting!
@@TheLastBacon it definitely does!
Oh I have missed your lore vids so much! Thank you for another episode 😊 also, they are getting better all the time
Welcome back :) Really glad you enjoyed the vid!
It does share a similar jaw and segmented structure with the Chelicerate, but it’s also entirely possible it’s not closely related to any known species. Or it could be a relative of the Sand Shark as both like to hunt by burrowing and jumping out at prey.
Yeah it actually shares features with many creatures :)
I think the Thumper is actually meant to fuction as a safe spot basically making your movements unnoticeable because of it which is why in the radius of the thumper you are safe from attacks altough Ice Worms don't really care about that sometimes and still attack you so it's rather confusing.
Also I found that using the prawn suit is the safest way around the arctic spires. With the jump jet module and grapling arm you can quickly leave an area it's about to attack and even if it does hit it only does like 15-20% damage which can be immediately repaired practically making you invincible to them.
The snowfox is just kind of useless in the Arctic Spires considering the Ice Worms like to throw you off of it every time they attack, do quite a lot of damage to it and sometimes prevent you from getting back on multiple times.
Prawn Suit all the way by far the easiest way to maneuver the Arctic Spires.
That could certainly make sense if you used a bunch of thumpers :)
I never used the snowfox except to get the achievement.
By far one of the coolest leviathans ever made by the subnautica team!
Definitely one of the more unique ones! :)
The intro actually gave me goose bumps. Nicely done!

If you play on console and your on the biome, sometimes you’ll notice your controller shake. Please pay attention to it. It means an ice worm is near by and when in that biome that is the worst thing that can happen. From experience it can be terrifying. It’s even worse when trying to get that organ. 💀
Oh that's a handy detail! :)
Yep, it’s because the ice worm burrowing beneath you shakes the ground and you feel it through the controller (which I thought was a nice addition)
@@soapfacesyeah it’s helpful. but the first time I happened to me I was so confused then 3 seconds later he popped out and I just slowly walked away
Ice worms are great but honestly nothing captures my heart like the squidshark
Squidsharks are undeniably awesome for sure :)
I really like them, it's such a cool idea and design but I wish they were made a bit better. They tend to be buggy and have a weird hitbox. Ice worms also are more of a trap + a jumpscare rather than a creature, it is quite annoying when it attacks you so often
Yeah they are definitely a cool concept :) Just wish they appeared in more areas.
The Ice Worm is a fascinating creature indeed! I wish we knew more about it though. Imagine having a big burrowing creature like that as an ally.

Hey love your vids, and I have an idea for another one: you should rate all the subnautica vehicles (subs, Neptune, and all the spaceships you see over the course of the two games)
Thank you! :) And that sounds like fun!
Amazing content :D keep up the good work
Thank you kindly :)
The iceworm is clearly related to the Sandshark. Its clear why: Segmented armor with little below, amushes from below, burrows throughout the ground and has those same weird legs.
Certainly possible yep :)
Imagine a "Subnautica: Below Zero Void Lore" video. Even though, it's probably the same as the first Subnautica's void.
Perhaps I'll make one :)
@@TheLastBacon That would be cool, tbh. I don't know that much about the void, except a "void-zombie" version of the Chelicerate.
Fun fact: there may be a sea creature twice the size as this thing that it shares direct DNA with.
In real life, rollie pollies, also known as pill bugs, (i think) have a deep sea equivalent, that is at least 3 times it's size, probably more.
(They are directly genetically related.)
And yes, the deep sea version also rolls into a ball.
This worm being related to the underwater leviathan known as the, "reaper" isn't quite as far fetched as some may have originally thought. Myself included.
Well that's a terrifying thought! :O
only armadillidium genus isopods roll into balls.
Remorhaz: who are you.....

One of the coolest yet deadliest creatures on the frozen wasteland! Is suck that you CAN NOT killed this beast because the Ice Worm are immune to all of your attacks.

I think he already did that
I do already have that vid yep :)
Fucking Ice Worm Leviathan. I saw it kill a Snowstalker. It was one of the most horrifying things I've seen. Also, the Ice Worm is just fucking cool. That sleek design.
Yeah they’re both awesome and terrifying :)
Fun fact: the ice worm is the apex predator in sector 0. Not only is it the biggest alive creature that is carnivorous it is also only hunted by other ice worms.
Yep true! :)
Yay I smart
Subnautica will one day be known as the only game series where you are chased around by dangerous man eating noodles on land and underwater😅
Haha that is quite specific :)
Makes you wonder, what kind of creature is responsible for those dead ice worms.
Yeah I wonder :) Maybe just old age!
@@TheLastBacon frozen leviathan?
I just started Below Zero recently so it'll be interesting encountering these guys for the first time. Rn though I'm still getting established, collecting resources and so on. Game glitched out on me badly yesterday and I ended up falling through the world because things weren't loading in properly, and I just. kept falling. Last save was over twenty minutes prior but I just gave up and shut the entire game off, I'll return to it later :') But yea can't wait to explore the rest of the world and finally live out the Tremors movies but in video game form
Haha yeah it does feel like out of the Tremor movies :) And sorry about that lost progress, that sucks!
@@TheLastBacon It's alright, I pretty much just lost out on getting the blueprint for windows, the high capacity O2 tank, and the rebreather, so I think I'll be able to go find them again pretty easily. I was just more annoyed by the glitch, lol
Amazing. Ps. Love the videos and thanks for commenting to me on the real civil engineers videos!

Yeah the weather certainly makes it more difficult :)

Yay thank you :)
Me: Realizing that the ice worm was probably following me while I was exploring the glaciers. 😱
If you heard the rumbling it might have been :)
@@TheLastBacon And now I'm wigged out. It was definitely stalking me at least once. I was like "What is that noise? There's earthquakes in this game?" Then I kept hearing rumbling, the sound of rocks falling. It didn't roar until I was in an ice cave. I was on foot too. I got saved from being eaten by being my normal, greedy self and climbing a ladder to find loot.
i think i know the most curel thing to do in below zero.. pack a swimming locker full of baby pengwins then use propulsion gun to launch it into space
The pengling space program :D
Funny thing, I played subnautica’s demo when it was probably released (played by youtubers) I only had a trial demo thing on my Xbox, and I thought the reason why everything existed was a monster was because the Aurora crash was radiating the ocean
oh how wrong I was
That would certainly be an interesting premise :) Like the radiation mutating creatures.
subnautica 3: the abyss within
Main idea.:
Another space ship got attacked by one of those non identified alien canons , the Odysseus , falling apppart crash into the deep and dark ocean below
The ship separating in 2 during the Entering of the stratosphere .
The world being even more big than subnautica 2 ( below zero ) and way more hostile ,adding some of subnautica 1 and 2 ,mashing all up
Having as well some parts of lands from 1 and 2 we could visit or see from far .
The abyss within ,under ,below zero meters ,there is a darkness to explore
Adding more deep water life forms ,more bases of aliens etc ,and adding the famous "giant squid " what would be called Nautilus , being somewhere all the way into the dark sand graveyard valley ,full of dead fishes and other living organism .
As well adding a bit of no man sky into the game could make it legendary ,making also the map bigger for ps4 and pc could be something cool as well .
Here is one of my ideas ,I have been wTching few of your vids and it gaved me ideas .
For anyone who see the comment ,comment below what kind of monster you want to see in the abyssal dephts
Honestly I would love a Subnautica game that takes place in the deeper parts of the ocean :)
thank you also you said it was related to shadow and burrower and the reaper is related to all hostile leviathans in the original subnautica with the sea emperor and gargantuan
Yep, certainly true :)
@@TheLastBacon you dare contradict those statements unless they have a common tiny ancestor rockgrub imagine
imagine if you could use the ice worm's skeletons as a habitat decoration
like marguerit's reaper skeleton
That would be so epic :)
I honestly feel like the ice worms are very close relatives to crab snakes and possibly evolved from. The crab snake or adapted to the environment
Oh yeah, good point :)
Maybe it was the Ice Worms to destroy the alterra facilities while Alterra wasnt on the planet
Maybe - they definitely have the capability to do so :)
This leviathan is really fun in theory, but in game I felt disappointed. It is roughly 60-70% done IMO.
Most leviathans in this version of the game basically follow that theme. Plus it feels weird that 2 of the biggest leviathans exist in areas with very little fauna. Which adds onto the unfinished feeling this game has to me overall.
It would have been interesting if there were snow stalkers and pengwings that learned to adapt to the ice worms in that area in large numbers. For example, maybe they walk really slow, or have feet that have adapted to quietly walk on snow.
Maybe snow stalkers know not to run at you. Instead they slowly approach you and claw you instead of tackle. They actually do more damage since they are trying to be precise and to the point. It would add to the overall threat level of the area.
On top of that they could have added caves with underwater passages and schools of fish to give as food sources to the snow stalkers and pengwings. Make it so the iceworms will pop out of those too with just their head and do some kind of custom animation if you get caught.
Whenever an ice worm bursts from the ground it basically just knocks me off the snowfox, does easily repairable damage to the snowfox, then I continue on my way.
I rarely take physical damage or feel threatened. When I get knocked off the snowfox I should have a sense of panic, but honestly I don't even fear the frost worms on foot. I don't feel comfortable being outside a vehicle while near any other leviathan from either game.
Yeah I definitely agree that the ice worm areas feel a little underdeveloped :)
Yay! New TLB video!! Love your videos!!!!
Yay :D Thank you!
So one thing I've always said is that there's no way the Leviathans could live in ecological dead zones just because of the amount of sustenance it takes to support a creature of that size, I find it more likely that a lot of the Leviathans in the void actually eat each other and other, larger creatures, like whales and the whales eat micro organisms to support the ecosystem, it would be similar to how in some areas of the world where the water gets extremely deep, its a predatorial warzone, and I think that point stands for the ice worm as well, the amount of energy it would expel moving from one location to another would be far more than the amount of energy eating one snow stalker would likely provide, it seems more likely there's some other ecosystem under the ice that it actually hunts in, and, similar to the cobra, it hunts Snow Stalkers for sport. Just a theory because these giant creatures with no viable sustenance have always bothered me lol.
You could be onto something :) Otherwise I can’t imagine the snowstalker population sustaining a bunch of worms.
@@TheLastBacon Yeah its an issue I had with the Dune sandworms too.
@@dweebie dune sandworms are mainly filter feeders, its in the books.
@@selectidiot that doesn't change the fact that its totally impossible for them to get enough food doing that, the only reason wales can do that efficiently is because they live in the water where they aren't as affected by gravity, the sandworms live tunneling in sand, probably the least energy and mass efficient way of surviving.
Good video, good channel, keep it up
Thank you kindly :)
I think the Ice worm is a relative of the ancient skeletal remain (not the THETA one or the Gargantuan one)
I could definitely see that yeah :)
