  • Ah, Subnautica . . . this beautiful game sparked a sense within me that few others have managed to achieve. From the moment I set foot outside of that lifepod for the very first time, I was hooked. I often find myself wishing I could go back in time and experience that feeling of wondrous terror for the first time once again. That being said, I’ve learned a lot in the hundreds of hours since my first playthrough, and I wish to impart some of that knowledge onto you. So without further ado, here are 10 things I wish I had known during my first playthrough of Subnautica . . . enjoy!

    Trick I found for Stalker Teeth:
    Get five pieces of metal salvage and a gravity trap. Find a stalker and drop the salvage and the grav trap. The grav trap keeps the stalker and the salvage together and the stalker will be constantly dropping one piece of metal salvage to pick up a different piece. This produces a massive number of stalker teeth very quickly.

      I've got a really nice 55+ hour run going right now; where I'm just having a good time building cool bases and (carefully) exploring the map. It's kind of exciting knowing that all of my hard work can be instantly undone by a single unlucky Crashfish blast.

    This is a trick that is used in speed runs but is actually part of the cote game on purpose: if you hold shift (or equivalent) when crafting you can stay in the crafting menu and navigate it while your item is being made. Its not insanely useful, but if you're making a lot of stuff that is multi layered crafting it can be useful for speeding it along.

    A small note on the subject of power priority:
    I have made the experience that with a very large base and especially when using power transmitters, the order can unfortunately change after reloading the game.
    I think the game first loads what is immediately around the player and only then gradually loads objects further away.
    For me, the bio-generator in the base regularly became the first device and, for example, thermal generators or solar panels that were further away and connected via transmitters became secondary devices, which was very annoying.

    • @wjrneo2
      @wjrneo2 8 місяців тому +8

      Yes. Power prioritization is based on which power piece loads in first. So if bioreactor loads before solar panels, the bioreactor is #1.
      With all the updates to the game I wish the devs had given us the ability to set power priorities without having to resort to Mods. That said, power priority mod works great.

      I’d argue the best item for the bioreactor, by far, is the Reginald fish. Incidentally it’s also the best food item too. As soon you have access to alien containment, stuff it full of reginalds and you have unlimited food and power from the same source. Reginalds have the most power output of any item that only takes up 1 inventory slot, and also gives over 40 food per fish, the best option once you are out of nutrient blocks.
      Edit, Apparently Oculus is better for power, but having both types of fish in containment is excessive. Oculus is probably the better choice if you do not intend to eat fish anymore and just use plants, for instance.

I've never been afraid of the game's predators, several times I've come face to face with phantom leviathans etc, but I've never panicked. I even scanned all the leviathans in the game without any security measures and absurdly I only died twice in my first game. But anyway subnatica scared the shit out of me too with its creepy alien structures... I remember the first time I explored the alien cannon. I literally ran to the landing site and when I saw the alien cannon I TOTALLY panicked. With my heart pounding, I explored the structure with the fear that an alien would come out of a corner. And when I realized that that cannon was used to carry out the quarantine procedure and would surely have destroyed the ship that was supposed to save me well I promoted subnatica to my favorite game! no other game has ever made me feel such emotions. At that moment I thought that this was the culmination of subnatica, but I was wrong! The end of the game was able to be even more exciting, I dare say almost perfect! I literally loved the Sea imperator's "philosophical" observations... and well it was a unique emotion to hatch the eggs!

Using this trick I used the sea-moth to go down 900 meters into the lost river and used 3 of the highest capacity oxygen tanks and med kits to go the rest of the way to the primary containment facility. Something that I have noticed about the more aggresive creatures in this game is if you get into a fight with e.g a Stalker and you wound it enough that it tries to escape, if you don't kill it, it will swim towards your lifepod, now scale that up to the Reaper and after two or three such fights, you can have a Reaper swimming arround your lifepod in the supposed 'safe' starting area. This works with all predatory creatures in the game, so be warned about leaving gribblies to swim away from a fight.

    Another tip I would recommend is burst fire with the stasis rifle first, then charge shot. Uncharged shots freeze the targeted area for 6.5 seconds; fully charged shots freeze the targeted area for 30 seconds. Triple tapping a leviathan gives you a good chance to immobilize it long enough to charge a full shot, which then gives you plenty of time to get away. Makes handling everything from Reapers to Ghost leviathans a walk in the park.

    I've been playing subnautica for a very long time and i've got a few of my own tips to share.
    1. Leviathans can wander out of their natural spawn locations if you damage one enough to force it to flee or something like a floater moves it out of that area.
    2. Subnautica has really cool collision damage with vehicles that you can take advantage of to absolutely annihilate leviathans. The cyclops is your best weapon. You can easily kill a reaper by full speed ramming it with your cyclops around 5-8 times. I do recommend you use a shield upgrade to do this and only activate the shield at the last second before impact to save power. This might not be the safest way to defeat a reaper but its certainly the coolest. I have tested it on ghost leviathans and a sea dragon too and it just takes a few more rams. You'll wanna ram the creature you are targeting, this will cause it to flee a short distance. Then eventually it will aggro back onto you (make sure to go ahead slow while its aggroing back onto you to cool your engine down). Once it aggros you'll want to go to full speed and activate your shield and deactivate it while you collide. If you do this correctly you should only take a few hits and lose around 10% power.
    3. If you wanna harvest acid mushrooms or deep shrooms pick them up and knife them away from their cluster to avoid a chain reaction (the chain reaction has a chance of instantly killing you which can be very bad for hardcore runs).
    4. Power transmitters get more powerful the more there are in a chain. They start off with terrible range but as you place more this range increases more and more. Keep this in mind when building long power lines.
    5. Almost nothing respawns on PC subnautica meaning you can drive species extinct. Keep this in mind when using my cyclops ram strategy. I personally have killed all but 1 of the leviathans on my main hardcore save.
    6. Bases don't despawn. No matter what your base won't despawn even when you get far away from it. You can use this to your advantage by dropping items on foundations so they don't clip through the floor. This also makes building reaper cages completely viable since it wont just unload and let them clip through.
    7. Yes you can build a reaper cage and it isn't even that hard. All you need is loads of titanium and lithium and a bit of lead. You'll need to build a pretty big foundation (depending on how humane you want the living conditions of your reaper to be) and then you'll want to build a ring of corridors around it. After this build vertical connectors on the straight corridors. They should be at least 5 connectors high. Then put a ceiling of X corridors on it (probably the most expensive part ignoring the reinforcements you'll need.). Make sure to leave an opening for your pet to swim through (you'll need to build this pretty close to where they live) and once they are inside, finish the structure by closing that opening. Now you have a pet reaper! If all is well he shouldn't escape. But he'll be very very loud so you should probably not build your main base too close to it.
    8. If you just want to incapacitate a leviathan floaters are your best friend. Just fill your inventory with em and drop them all for the leviathan. If you are lucky they should all target the leviathan. If you are unlucky i'm sure the leviathan doesn't appreciate what you just did.
    9. There is green table coral on one of the safe shallows/kelp forest borders. This coral is mostly reserved for the lost river so its just a cool left over thing from development you can find.
    10. The bulb zone has been mostly untouched since it was first put into the game. You can find lots of strange things like safe shallows plants and kelp models you see nowhere else in game if you look hard enough. The Bulb zone geyser caves near lifepod 12 also have a lot to see in them and there are some sea crowns at the entrance that you can collect.

    Some nice tips, but most of them I knew about. Didn't know of the cooked fish at the bottom of the heat vents though. Also didn't know of the power priority. Some more of my own for the specific sections:
    Stalker Teeth = The more of the metal bits you give them, the faster they lose teeth. Just make sure to have them do the deed where you can easily spot the teeth. The teeth can blend into the terrain a lot of the time so you might find them in hard to see spots.
    After It Explodes = I always thought the blocked off entrance was the secret entrance. Because you often had to get the propulsion gun parts from inside the Aurora, to be able to exit from that route.
    Reapers = Some notes:
    -> The gas torpedoes are particularly useful against reapers, though collecting the gas nodules is a pain in the booty hole.
    -> Getting out fast and shooting them with a stasis rifle, and getting back in your sea moth can be a great way to escape.
    Reapers/Cyclops = Most of the time turning off the engine isn't sufficient. Because if you wandered into their "home" and they were patrolling on the far side and then spots you, they'll hang around you for quite some time... like I did this tactic once, and it took me 40 minutes of slow inching my way out and turning off the engine to avoid getting destroyed. However, there are some ways of handling reapers with the cyclops that you didn't mention. Namely:
    -> Going stealth mode with the engines to sneak away, but also try to get to the surface. Reapers are more inclined to stay down 300 meters or so, and thus it takes them longer to get to you if they do decide to go after you again.

    Thermal vents are also an excellent source of power for bases, particularly bases deep enough that solar just won't work anymore. Thermal generators are entirely passive, just like solar, and can be used to either entirely or at least significantly power a forward base. There's thermal vents down by the jellyshroom cave, for example, that can power a base down there where a lot of resources can be found.
    Small but efficient forward outposts can really help make normally hard to reach resources much easier to obtain.

    A tip i learned from building a giant habitat that spans almost half the world map and growing.
    You get the most real-estate out of the available materials by making everything out of glass that you can and making reinforcements out of titanium, lead, and lithium. Lithium is easily available in unlimited supply by following the crawler leviathans around and breaking up the rocks they stir up. If you are building a giant habitat, a good place for the reinforcements is in the virtical passage ways. Atm my habitat is around 1500m long by 600m wide by 300m tall yet still has a hull strength of around 300 by following this principle.

      Sticking most of it above water.

    • @gunengineering1338
      @gunengineering1338 8 місяців тому

      @brodriguez11000 there's no durability penalty for anything on the surface. It matters when doing a giant habitat but not as much as you might think. For building a giant habitat, i found the surface mostly useful for solar. ATM i am building my way down to the lava zone. So it will be pretty cool getting surface level solar power down there.
      My habitat is mostly various posts linked by long walk ways. One of the posts is on the surface along with parts of 3 of the walk ways. Everything else is under water. And hull strength is between 500 and 600. I could have it up to a thousand by now if i were willing to spend the resources on it. There would probably be around a 200 strength penalty if the surface sections were under water. As i said earlier. The best way to keep up in hull strength imo is by putting reinforcements on the vertical sections while using glass for all the walk ways.
      I am making a video of it for a friend. I will share it here too.

  • @lexslate2476
    @lexslate2476 8 місяців тому +1

    I always thought the entrance in to the Aurora that you suggest as an alternative was the main one, as it had a bunch of supply boxes one he way in, a scannable broken propulsion cannon, and a PDA hinting at what the cannon was for, plus an interactable console in the room on the right with the poster that makes your computer helper voice tell you that you need to get deeper in to the ship to get its black box data.
    That said, those are good tips. Here are some of mine:
    Scanning room picks up loads of stalker teeth, if you have one in range of a kelp forest. Thermal vents can't hurt you much if you have a reinforced dive suit, though that's hardly an early-game item. I put potted plants in the same room as my bioreactors, mostly lantern fruit as they require no replanting and they can hold a lot of usable fruits per plant.
    If Reapers are a concern, plant a scanner room with a couple solar panels on it near their turf and tell it to watch for them. If you install the scanner HUD chip thingy (i forget the exact name), then you'll be able to see exactly where they are at all times.
    I suggest building little bases wherever you might need them, each with plants on the inside for food and plants on an exterior growbed for other resources. A knife slash will get you plantable bits from most usable plants and some useless ones. Once you're immune to tiger plant spikes, consider putting an exterior growbed with a few of those near bases with hostile creatures nearby to keep the mean fish away. Once you have the resources, put a moonpool in so that you can recharge your seamoth.
    Build moonpools at multiple bases and use them as battery chargers. The resources you need to make a moonpool are much more attainable, especially in the early game, then the ones you need to make a power cell charger, so when your Cyclops needs juice, you can grab all of the cells that are below 100 charge and take them, with your seamoth, in to the moonpool. Just swap the battery in the mini-sub while it's docked. While you run around the base snacking on the plants and seeing if the scanners found anything interesting and making fish jerky with the salt from the water purifier, you just need to occasionally swap a cell.
    The vending machine and coffee maker work. Both require a powered base. Interact withe the coffee machine and it will go off, while the chip machine requires that you press the chip selection panel. Neither is an especially practical source of food or water. I use potted plants a lot for that. Even in the cyclops.
    Carry a stasis rifle. When in hostile territory, freezing a hostile fish in a time bubble is a great way to make it hold still for scanning, or so that you can get the hell away from it before it bites you. Or so that you can stab it repeatedly if you are feeling vindictive.

    • @furiousapplesack
      @furiousapplesack 8 місяців тому

      All that is good. Stasis rifle is a life-saver, so much so that just having it reduces some of the fear I have. Also, a single Bulbo tree is pretty much enough to get by on, in base or on the Cyclops. It has generally regrown by the time you are in dire straits in term of sustenance, gives a great balance of water/food and doesn't take up too much space.

    It seems in the last big update they made adjustments to the position of the boxes to make it much harder to jump over the barrier into the Aurora. Also seems like jumping from the ledge above near the fire area is harder now, so it seems they really want you to make the propulsion cannon to get in.
    I think it took me a few playthroughs to realize there are enough nickel chunks around to do your upgrades without needing to mine for them with the prawn suit, you just have to keep an eye out for them on the walls in the lost river areas. After you know the map really well it means you can get all the way to the power generation facility without ever building a prawn suit or cyclops, just a seamoth and seagluide will get you there. Of note regarding #6, Power Priority, keep in mind it also applies regarding the first power source connected when loading the game. Thermal generators that relay power back to your base from a distance will typically be disconnected from it when you first load your save, and then connect after a couple seconds. This causes the thermal generators to be considered as the last power source connected to your base, meaning you should probably always consider them to be the last power source the game will use unless your base is right next to the thermal vent.

      I feel your pain! Forgetting to refill my tanks when I hit a base, then I'm out far somewhere and oh low o2, swap tanks... O2 didn't go up, swap to 3rd tank... noooooo.... but you can see the fill level by the crescent color indicator even when not equipped. More than once I've been out a ways and glanced at my other tanks and ooooooooo no back to base back to base! I also tend to leave the tanks with a little o2 when swapping, in case I get in a pinch I can "juggle" my remaining tanks

    I've been playing for years and have never known there was an upper entrance on the aurora. I thought you had to have the propulsion canon.

    *Tip for the newbies: 2/3 of the Cyclops parts can be found near the Aurora rear engines, thank me later.

    The "alternate entrance" to the Aurora was the *only* entrance during much of early access, so it took me until about 6 months after the full release to even find out that there was another entrance that you were "supposed to use."

    Also suggest making the alien containment and getting Reginalds and Oculus. Reginalds are the best food option for fish and the Oculus is the best for the bio fuel.

      why? just put a planter with lanterns. they are far easier to find and make. take less space, and dont require any special room. as for bio fuel, just put a planter outside with mushrooms.
      they grow incredibly fast, give ALOT of power per shroom, are easier to stock, and again, do not need an alien containment and another large room.

    Like actually this was a great video and was greatly made
    Btw going with cyclops with the slowest engine might help with your life since it doesnt create much noice, ofcourse if ur attacked then turn it off

    Nice video.
    Another tip for mid/late game is to build a stasis rifle, you can kill all creatures with it (by stabbing/punching them while they're stuck) or even defend your self by creating a bubble around you.
    I'm currently killing all leaviathans, and the rifle became my best friend because, it can stop everything. It is even better with a íon battery

      It can be even found with ion battery already installed, but I'm not quite sure where. I just found it when I already built one (maybe Aurora or island habitats) but this one could be fired almost indefinitely!

    Question, in submatica, I currently just finished exploring the aurora, and the sunk to ocean bed life pod. Idk what to do next since I barely get any new radio messages. But I was planning to go to the underwater islands to get cyclops and my last prawn suit part. My questions that would be helpful if you answer are first, where are the fragment for the vehicle modifier bay thing (the one where you craft modules)? Second, I’m aware there are no leviathans and only the one snake thing in the underwater biome, but what depth module on my sea moth should I get to explore the biome safely? And third, where do I find the blueprints for module mk2 and 3 for sea moth? Thanks so much if you read this it helps a lot. Love your content❤

      You can find a databox for the vehicle upgrade console in a large square shaped wreck in the grassy plateaus. You only need a depth module make 1 to be able to explore most of the caves, and the other depth modules are made at the modification station, no blueprints required.

    I was able to drive the cylops around leviathans in the silent mode pretty much with no problem. As long as I didn‘t bump into them physically they didn‘t care.
    With the sea moth I was extremely aggressive against them. I git the shocker mod, charged it and drove right into the leviathans. Timed right the shock will damage them and stop their charge, so I killed a few with that tactic.
    Felt really good being a leviathan against those leviathans!

    #11 - Build scanner rooms. They can really help you find stalker teeth, copper, research data, or even track the reaper locations.
