The Ramones were one of the pioneers of punk in the 70's. Hearing this as a teenager blew my mind! Amber may recognize the "hey ho let's go" because it's played at lots of sporting events to rev up the crowd. Iggy Pop was another punk rocker with his band The Stooges.

    • @Reani71
      @Reani71 2 роки тому +19

Iggy was not just another punk rocker, he's more like the godfather of punk rock and his band The Stooges were punk rock even before people knew what it was called, today one would say that the music they made was proto-punk, starting in the late 60s and initiating the whole movement. Ramones were probably the first "real" punk rock band heavily influenced not only by the likes of The Stooges or New York Dolls but also the surf sound of the 60s.

I've been trying to get you two to review the Ramones for a while now! The Ramones were considered the true first punk band consisting of Joey Ramone(Jeff Hyman), Johnny Ramone(John Cummings), Dee Dee Ramone(Douglas Colvin), and Tommy Ramone(Thomas Erdelyi). There were more members as the lineup changed over the years like Marky Ramone(Mark Bell), CJ Ramone(Christopher Ward), Elvis Ramone(Clement Burke) and Richie Ramone(Richard Reinhardt).
They were known for playing very fast and very short songs and wearing leather jackets and Keds sneakers because they were huge fans of 50s music and styles and HATED the music that was popular during the 70s at the time, i.e. disco. They had some great iconic songs like "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker", "I Wanna Be Sedated", "I Just Want To Have Something to Do", "Rockaway Beach", "Pinhead", "She's The One", "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend", "I Want You Around", "Rock N' Roll High School", "Judy Is A Punk", "Pet Semetary", "Beat On The Brat", "Teenage Lobotomy", "R.A.M.O.N.E.S.", "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue", "Do You Remember Rock N' Roll Radio?", "I Can't Make It On Time", and "The KKK Took My Baby Away".

I think this song was also in the original National Lampoon's Vacation movie. Audrey put this song on her headphones in the car to drown out her parents.

The Ramones were the pioneers of punk, total legends that influenced everyone that came after them. Though they all adopted the name "Ramone" as a surname, they were not related. Their primary lineup consisted of Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, and Tommy. Among their other greats are "Rockaway Beach", "Rock 'n Roll High School", "I Wanna Be Sedated", and "I Don't Want To Grow Up". The recorded versions illustrate the true sound. Live versions should only be reactions once you know what the studio version sounds like. In terms of live shows, Ramones were almost a totally different band live than they were on recordings. Even though they played exactly like the records, the speed kind of masks the true pop geniuses that they were. Listening to the vocals, there's no way you can identify the studio sound from Joey unless you know the songs inside out.

  • @1967PONTIACGTO

Loved your reaction! The Ramones, from New York City, created what is now called punk rock. This song was song 1 on side 1 of the first Ramones album, released in April, 1976, and therefore is ground zero for punk rock. It has been used in a lot of movies.... most recently at the end of Spiderman Homecoming (at the end when Aunt May walks in as Peter is trying on his new Spiderman suite), but also National Lampoon Vacation and Jimmy Neutron.... but it is most famous from being used in Tony Hawk and from having the Hey Ho Let's Go part played at sports events. You may have recognized it more readily if you'd played the recorded version, but the live versions are great, too. The Ramones are often criticized for being one dimensional, but in fact there is a lot of variety in what they do. The songs are usually hard, fast and raw with funny lyrics. For another song like this, try "Chainsaw" from their first album. Their next most famous song is "I Wanna Be Sedated", which has a funny video. For other catchy Ramones songs try "Rockaway Beach" (which was used in a Scooby Doo cartoon), or "Beat on the Brat" which was used in the movie "Billy Madison", or "Sheena is a Punk Rocker'" which is in the Steven King movie Pet Sematary, or the song "Pet Sematary" from the same movie, or "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg" (which was used in the movie School of Rock). The Ramones never sold a lot of records because radio wouldn't play punk rock, but their music slowly has become more mainstream over time because the songs are so good that they get used in movies and game soundtracks, and they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility because of their influence on music.

I saw them at CBGB's in the East Village back in their explosive early days of the early 1980's. In fact, they were such a local phenomenon that there was this one bar that a lot of performers would go to where they could just chill out and chat with the locals, and not worry about being mobbed by fans.. I was in the bar one night and Joey Ramone was there, quietly drinking just down the bar from me. Suddenly, Ric Ocasek of the Cars came in with his gorgeous model wife Paulina Porizkova--he had a birthday cake to celebrate Joey's B day. We all joined in singing for the birthday boy, with me banging my glass mug with a spoon and there was cheering, kissing and back slapping afterwards. Good cake, too.

Ramones were the pioneers of punk rock. 'Blitzkrieg bop' was about what they did in NYC in the 70's - jumping w/ friends into a car and driving to see a live show at the bars & go crazy ... 😂 Ramones lyrics are very short & pointed w/ dark humor. The band members could barely play their instruments, but that didn't stop them from forming a band in 1974. Their inspiration to play music came from the Midwest band The Stooges, whose singer was Iggy Pop. They liked 60's rock n' roll, short & simple...they couldn't relate to long, psychedelic songs in the 70's by bands like Yes, Genesis and Led Zeppelin... so they played in that style of music.
The called the band The Ramones cos the 4 original members all took the last name 'Ramone' and dressed the same as a show of unity on stage... Jeff Hyman became Joey Ramone (vocals), Douglas Colvin was Dee Dee Ramone (bass), Tom Ederlyi was Tommy Ramone (drums), and John Cummings was Johnny Ramone (guitar)... The Ramones failed to reach commercial success in the USA, but in the UK, their music started a huge punk rock movement in the 70's which made it into Europe (and later, South America) ... The live version of 'Blitzkrieg bop' here was a bit more frantic than the studio version. In America, the Ramones would tour small clubs and bars, and inspired a generation of kids to form punk rock bands all over the country. They couldn't get commercial success in North America, even tho they were like Beatles popular in Brazil!
Tommy Ramone left in '78 and was replaced by drummer Marky Ramone (Marc Bell) ... Dee Dee Ramone quit in 1989 and replaced by bassist C.J. Ramone (Christopher Joseph Ward)... The Ramones opted to end their career in 1996 after a final tour.
Sadly, all 4 original members (Joey, Dee Dee, Johnny & Tommy Ramone) have passed away (R.I.P. 😪)

A hug from a subscriber from Brazil.. Rock in the early 70s was becoming almost classic, it was the history of progressive Rock and several bands "claimed" to be the best and played better and better, but young people began to dislike this precisely because Rock was different, it was freedom , it was to be against political correctness, it was to be rebellious, it was to fight against sameness, so in New York, in the neighborhood of Queens, the Forrest Hill group emerged, this group invented Punk Rock, Joey, Jhonny, Tommy and DeDee, the Ramones, songs Fast, simple lyrics and with three chords, Punk Rock showed young people that Rock can also be very simple and with the same attitude.
After this explosion of Punk Rock with the Ramones, the English entered the scene with The Clash and Sex Pistols among others.
    Ramones forever...

"I don't just want to dance. I want to jump up..." AMBER GETS IT!!! That's all you need to know!
This is pure American punk rock! The Ramones wanted to play fun pop music, the kind they grew up listening to in the 1950s and 60s. It was a reaction to a lot of the psychedelic and prog rock that was popular in the early 1970s. Fortunately, they only had the vaguest notion of how to play their instruments, thus creating punk rock. They are known for short, energetic songs. Their first concert, at CBGBs no less, ended after 15 minutes because they had played all their songs. Except for the 1-2-3-4 count they didn't stop between songs.
They tried and tried for years to get a top 40 hit but it never happened. All the members of the bandn (Joey, Marky, Johnny, Dee Dee, Tommy) used Ramone as their stage name. Since you are doing Christmas songs Joey Ramone, the lead singer, does a great version of Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).
You may have seen the sign "Gabba Gabba Hey" flash on the screen a couple of times. The Ramones were big fans of old cult movies, one of which was the 1932 Tod Browning classic "Freaks" which was about circus entertainers (go watch it, no description of mine can do it justice). The characters in the movie chant "Gooble, gobble, we accept her, we accept her, one of us, one of us!" which the band changed to ""Gabba gabba, we accept you, we accept you, one of us" in their song Pinhead. It was the Ramones' way of saying that everyone, weirdos and norms alike, were welcome in their world. The children's TV show "Yo Gabba Gabba!" gets its name from the Ramones.
Iggy Pop, with his band The Stooges, are generally credited with being one of the forefathers of punk along with fellow Detroit band the MC5.

The Ramones was the first true American Punk Rock band. Their first album came out in 1974, and although they did not have a lot of hit records, they were enormously influential to the British Punk Rock music scene in the mid-to-late-1970s. The band built their reputation over time by putting on hard-edged, frenetic Punk Rock concerts while on tour. According to Wikipedia, The Ramones performed over 2,200 concerts, and held their farewell concert in 1996 in Los Angeles. All of the original members of the group have passed away, while some replacement members of the group are still active in the music industry. The Ramones are inductees in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
In 1980, The Ramones released their 1980 album, "End Of The Century". It was produced by controversial music producer Phil Spector (who produced a lot of hit records in the early-1960s). One song/music video from that album that I would definitely recommend for the both of you to react to, is for the song, " Rock And Roll Radio". The music video got regular airplay on MTV during its first year in 1981, and into 1982.

J - Iggy Pop is an American singer/ songwriter - member of the 1967's proto-punk rock group "The Stooges" - also known as "the Grandfather of Punk Rock" by many. Personally, I truly believe that he was the main inspiration for Billy Idol's tough rocker image in the 80's, ten years later. A fantastic introductory song for first listeners to his unique style of rock is probably his most well-known song "Real Wild Child (Wild One)", which I believe both you and Amber will love to rock out in reaction to someday. Live version let's you better appreciate what I meant about his inspiration for Billy Idol's style somewhat "black leather jacketed "greaser-style", though he has had many "styles" (much like David Bowie) throughout his long career.
