Blitzkrieg is actually "Lightning war" and it's describing the fast pace of the German army invading countries in WW2

Actually, 'Blitzkrieg' is a myth. The term was originally devised by western media to describe the speedy success of the German invasion of Poland in 1939. However, what they were describing was in fact just the same combined arms tactics that had been simultaneously developed by British and German forces during the final stages of WW 1, coupled with the overwhelming nature of the German forces involved in the campaign. The term was then co-opted by the military establishment in Britain and France in an attempt to explain away their shocking defeat in May/June 1940. That defeat had far more to do with incompetence and panic, particularly on the part of the French establishment, rather than as a result of anything novel the Germans introduced to the battlefield in that year. In fact, the Germans hardly used the term 'blitzkrieg' at all. They preferred to attribute these initial successes to 'National Socialist zeal'.

The Ramones were considered punk but they were basically doing straight ahead 50s/60s rock and roll at a Blitzkrieg speed (and often, volume).

@@V0liathon Not Really. The Ramones were openly fans of early rock and roll. Rock and Roll Radio was an ode to the genre and they covered several early rock and roll songs (California Sun, Surfin' Bird, Do You Wanna Dance). If you listen to the instrumentation of Blitzkrieg Bop at a slower speed (and imagine it more acoustic) it could almost be mistaken for a Beach Boys song. Not to take anything away from the Ramones, they were great.

Well, that's what Punk was originally. In a time when rock was 20 minute guitar solos, pyrotencnia and psychodelia, the Ramones brought back strip down, energetic, raw, fun and rebelliousness to rock n' roll again. The only difference is that they didn't have musical education, they played twice as fast and agressive and the lyrics had a lot of dark humour. That's pretty punk to me.

Blitzkrieg has nothing to do with formation, it's describes the strategy to attack fast and win the war before it becomes a greater conflict. Germans used it to prevent the static warfare that made the WW1 so brutal, long and exhausting. In the praxis it means to enclosure and destroy larger opposing troops before these become material battles and trench warfare.

you've hit on my favourite group (after the Beatles of course)..... this is the first song on the first side of the first Ramones album, released in April, 1976, which makes it Ground Zero for what is generally called punk rock... it is possible to argue endlessly about the roots of punk rock, and it didn't come out of nowhere (Velvet Underground, Stooges, New York Dolls), but this song and this album were the start of a whole new genre of music..the name of this song and the words are a spoof of dance songs like the "Lindy Hop"... the Ramones were rejecting both the soft country rock and the pretentious progressive rock of the mid 70's, and were trying to dial things back to the short, energetic, fun songs of the AM radio of the 1960's..very few of their songs are much over 2 minutes long, and most have a lot of dry NYC humour in the lyrics... the Ramones have lots and lots of great songs...they never got radio airplay, but you can't keep a good song down and their songs have become known because other people used them in video games (Tony Hawk) and movies/TV (National Lampoon Vacation, Jimmy Neutron, Billy Madison, Spiderman Homecoming, Spiderman Far From Home, Terminator Genisys, Pet Sematary, School of Rock).... and for all of this they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility despite not selling records .... next, I suggest you watch the official video for "I Wanna Be Sedated", which is their other well known song and a funny video... and then maybe try a song called "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg" which was used in School of Rock, or Pet Sematary which they wrote at the request of Stephen King who is a big fan, and is used in the closing credits of that movie (the Ramones song Sheena is a Punk Rocker is also in the movie... the truck driver is listening to it when something bad happens)

Ramones were formed NYC in 1975... this 1976 song started their career. They established the punk rock genre that sprouted worldwide.
Ramones attitude was basically to get up onstage & play with no skills 😂 That's why all their songs r short & simple...
Unfortunately, all 4 original members passed away (R.I.P😪) They carried on until their breakup in 1996 after 20 years. They literally had no hits their entire career, but built a huge fanbase that adored them.
    Other Ramones classics:
'I wanna be sedated' ... 'Havana affair' ... 'We want the airwaves'... 'Judy is a punk'... 'The KKK took my baby away'... 'Rock n roll high school'

I recently discovered your channel and I really dig it! You can absolutely see how much you two love music in general through your videos. Another thing I love about your videos and I hate that it's a thing that I would even notice, but I think it's awesome that you too are being so open-minded with music. I've had black friends that would listen to things outside of their cultural approved genres and they would get clowned by their black peers, getting called things like Uncle Tom and being accused of trying to be white. You guys look a lot younger than me, but I'll tell you that in the '80s and earlier, black people listen to whatever they wanted and nobody thought anything of it and it was just how it was. Somewhere along the way in the late 90s, it became socially acceptable for people in your community to only listen to hip hop and R&B and things like that and it's a real shame because there's so much good music out there! So I want to say that I LOVE how open-minded and into music in general you two are! Very proud to subscribe to you guys. Please keep making more videos, because your vids put a smile on my face 😊

One of the greatest rock & roll bands of all time.
They came out during the Disco era and were totally stiff armed by the industry & radio. They werent the prettiest group of guys compared to the "Saturday Night Fever" crowd & in a time when Censorship was relevant having songs like "Blitzkrieg Bop" "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue" "Beat on the Brat" wasnt going to get you radio play back then, tho it's pretty normal having an outrageous song title like that these days. They were ahead of their time & were totally snubbed. Their popularity exploded only after their retirement in 1996, 20 years after their first album . First ballot Hall of Famers in 2002. Lead singer Joey Ramone passed away in 2001, before their acceptance into the Hall of Fame.

I don't know about the composition, lol. The beginnings of punk rock right here. Just young punks forming a garage band and playing three chord songs. We loved punk in the day because everyone was sick of corporate arena rock and this brought us back to the original zeitgeist of rock and roll, just straight up middle-finger rebellion. Some of the later punk got political and had a message and a social conscious (ie. The Clash). This is just bottled up energy. Saw them on their 'final tour,' in 1994. Wasn't actually their final tour, lol

I am impressed BJ knew something about the German Blitzkrieg type of warfare they unleashed at the start of WWII. It was a real innovation in modern warfare, where they used motorized infantry and armor, supported by the Luftwaffe air units to pierce the allies defenses and encircle them along with disrupting communications and supply lines. It is a big part why they won so often in the first 3 years. They got theirs by invading Russia and the USA entering the war. Thanks for taking a shot at all kinds of Rock, if you have not done War Pigs by Black Sabbath, do the original audio only and not the fan made video which has nothing to do with the song and only distracts from a classic, anti war tune and relevant to this day. Enjoy! 🎸

this song is only 4 simple chords on the guitar: G, C, D, and A. it was used to push the punk ethos that anyone could make music, and that you didn’t need years of training to be a good/popular musician.

also regarding the military message, this song came out just 20 years after WW2 ended, so it was quite fresh in people’s minds. add to that the contemporary conflict of the 70s, the Vietnam War, which had ended less than 1 yr before this came out, and you’ve got the makings of pop culture magic.
