How much fun to be recognized by a fan and hero of yours. She's right, you're doing amazing and Katahdin will a lot to many, but it will mean so much more to someone who was medically forced off trail, had surgery and got right back out there. You're rocking it. Awesome job
Awesome that Dixie messaged you, I followed her for years now from her beginnings. Now I am following you! The way you seek out fun besides just hiking (don't get me wrong, hiking is fun but other events are part of the journey) reminds me of some of her activities also. Just finished watching her videos of the Florida trail.

I hope Dixie sees my comment. She is a great Alabama girl (War Eagle!) that got me interested in UA-cam after I retired and Covid shut the world down. Got me interested in following other hikers like you. I have followed you for quite awhile and have been looking forward to watching you hike the AT. Dixie if you are reading this you just proved to me all the time I spent watching most every video you have put out was worth the time. You are such a great person and inspiration to tons of others. Kelly you are certainly proving to be the same! Keep up the fight and enjoy every minute because it will end and then you will be looking for that next thing. Thanks to you both! When you went off trail for your surgery, went through recovery and was determined to get back on trail … the entire time I was rooting for you and it came to me that, if Dixie had a daughter, her name would be Kelly Hays.

When I hiked the Colorado Trail stoves were not allowed due to fire risk. I got used to not having to deal with the weight or trouble and now I rarely use a stove.
Dixie is the reason I've gone down the Appalachian Trail/backpacking rabbit hole...she's amazing and so are you! :)

Gumby appeared this week (lol) but I think based on Dixie's commentary, something needs to spawn off your journey - one of your tramily members needs to run an contest among the hikers. Glad you are having fun.
The ending is the travesty of cold soaking! I like their Sea Salt Caramel or Alphonso Mango the best :)

Morning Kelly! Huge thanks to Dixie for saying what all of us feel and know as FACT. You are a total bad ass all while staying beautifully humble, grounded and balanced. I totally dig those shoes. Have you looked to see if any online retailers stock them so can get them sent to you on trail? Adidas boost is an amazing cushion material, way better than the crap that Altra uses. If you don’t get to see a bear you will when you get to the zoo in NY 😂 I hope men didn’t fast forward thru the women’s hygiene stuff. IMHO learning about possible trail issues whether they are yours or someone else’s is important. I think it’s a great idea to send your stove home, especially in summer. If you ever need to heat something up for dinner you just borrow a stove or build a fire. If you have a tramily, the whole group can use one stove for the group even. Sharing is a pretty normal thing for backpacking in a crew. “I have to eat this jar of gelato so I can cold soak” 😂😂😂😂 yeah you do! I wish keto ice cream came in jars. damn you sugar filled jar of beautiful deliciousness…. Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well.

FYI - Your story also was picked up by Miyagi on the Trail a few weeks ago. I hear you on the Altras - I am tightly strung as well. After trying a bunch of options I have landed on Salmings which is a Swedish, primarily running shoe company that has distribution in Raleigh. Hope the Adidas work out long term, there is nothing worse than having shoes that 'don't work'.

Homemade Wanderlust, Jessica, Dixie is the very origin of me being a spectator of thru-hikers on UA-cam a few years ago. You all do it, so I don't have to. I might have learned how to retire as a successful homeless person from all of this.

Dixie is great .... You are a close second ..... The only two hikers I follow....
How are the ticks? Have you treated your clothing or do you put on bug spray daily? Ticks are my biggest concern about hiking the AT.
Try chaste vitex and raspberry. You can find it in pill form or tea it helps for polycystic and irregular periods etc ♥️♥️♥️

Wild woman apothecary female balance blend has chaste tree vitex, red clover red raspberry, nettle etc. and it's great, .....also oat mama fertility tea it's raspberry vanilla flavor!
Kelly, if you have a current or recent version of iOS on your phone, you can also upload your phone image and movie files *onto* an SD card. So, if you do run out of space on your phone there's always the option of getting more cards and dumping all your files onto them.
Must be rough having to eat all that gelato. :D
I tried the adidas high tops and unfortunately there is an inseams that hit right at my ankle bone. They were otherwise so comfortable but the damn inseam killed me. I ended up returning them and funnily enough, I’m trying out one of the altras. We’ll see how that goes. Fingers crossed. It’s so much trial an error to find a shoe that works for you.
I’ve seen her since I’ve seen you, but honestly girl I seen you first, and I feel the same about you as you do Dixie. One vlog, two vlogs, and I was hooked. I did exactly what you said, “I’ve got to do that!” Now admittedly you are much younger, and healthier than myself, but you inspired me to keep looking, and I seen a lot of people in way worse health than me, and then to find you pushed through after one of the same surgeries I’ve had. Well, I believe in signs, and God. I believe he was speaking this into my heart for the longest, and seeing you out there made it real for me. More than that I checked out your van, and yeah it’s a whole thing now. Give us 9 months, and we are hitting the AT, and the road. Your information about your gear has helped tremendously, and even though I went to REI like you said to try stuff on, I found it cheaper online, but they were great at helping answer any unanswered questions. Until next year we will be hiking locally (not far from the AT), and will be doing so fully geared up. I really don’t care how stupid I look fully geared on a 5-10 mile loop.
