Im a white woman. I taught in this community, I love this community. I developed lasting relationships that I still maintain today. The community and parents looked out for and loved me. I left after losing too many students to a BS shootings. I taught there for 5 years. I have seen many of my students rise above their circumstances, so many over the years, some are pharmacists, lawyers, policemen, a few doctors, and business owners. I wanted to stay but my heart was broken. I left teaching for 3 years after my youngest student was killed. I’m back teaching because it broke my heart not to be. God Bless❤️

For all the people talking about Columbia is a joke, go there and say it. Its gotten a little better actually. But its serious. The hood that they were showing is actually called Bethel Bishop. The Colony sits right in front of it. Another bad spot. Now go back to the late 80.s and early 90's. Columbia had hoods like Fairfield Arms, Hendley Holmes, Saxon Holmes, Gonzales Gardens and Roosevelt Village. These were the most dangerous hoods in Columbia. Many of you maybe a little too young to remember those hoods. They eventually had to be torn down due to excessive crime rates like drugs, robberies and murder. Trust me, Columbia is much nicer now that these hoods no longer exist. Look up the stats. Columbia used to rank top 10 or 20 (per capita) in everything bad.. That's definitely nothing to be proud of. I"ve been to Brooklyn, Houston, Baltimore, D.C, L.A, Miami, St. Louis just to name a few cities. All of them are good and bad in some ways. But I never had any problems. Respect people and they will respect you. If you know how to carry yourself, you'll be alright in any city for the most part. But go to any city tripping with a chip on your shoulder thinking you run something, and you gonna get dealt with for sure. There are good parts and bad parts of every city. Good people and bad. Every person from the hood is not a drug dealer, killer, gang member or welfare recipient. Some are actually good people. So for all these people talking about somebody elses hood is a joke, there are gangsters, hustlers, killers and drug dealers in EVERY hood. In the idle words of Willie D of the Geto Boys..."Your hood aint no harder than mines MF". So shout out to everyone from every hood in America and beyond. All of us need to be a part of the solution instead of the problem.. Teach your kids better than the way we were taught. Then maybe we all can brag about the POSITIVE things about the hood and not about whose hood is harder. Peace
I just went there and said that 🙄
Don’t you love how this is video is put on by a state news outlet... inspirational lol. I used to deliver water to this neighborhood a few years back and there’s good people everywhere. Tough situations, but diamonds are made from pressure. The best way to improve a situation isn’t to glamorize the bad things but lift up positivity and that in turn will change the outlook.

Rest in peace Octavia found dead killed by own baby father a true angle
Why the hell to even have / raise kids.
One of the largest & devastating problems is the absence of self pride. It starts with the young ladies not respecting themselves enough to NOT have these innocent babies with these oft unemployed, uneducated, & unmotivated guys. In addition, the guys do not respect themselves enough to NOT impregnate this woman here, that woman there , etc. It is rather disheartening to see this transpire generation after generation & no one seems to care enough to be part of the solution by curtailing this wayward and self/community -defeating behavior. I believe if these young men & women would step up to destroy the generational curse by staying in school & actually studying intensely 📖, refrain from haphazardly bringing children into situations where both mom and dad are ill equipped(emotionally, mentally, & FINANCIALLY ) to support & nuture the offspring , that can help to steer the misguided vessel of chaos, crime, poverty , domestic violence & abandonment that continues to plague the community , into the right direction. It’s the common sense decisions that can make or break the foundation of a community.
Good spot to plant a seed or 2 then lol.
