Went to Colombia for 11 days last summer including Medellin and had an amazing experience. Traveled the country via bus to a few different smaller towns and not once did I feel unsafe. Granted I didn’t go to the *most dangerous* neighborhoods of Medellin, but explored some of the non-touristy ones. Actually felt people were generally more honest than in the US. Great country, super hospitable people.
He took a nice ride with nice people. They took good care of him. What you see as crazy is the everyday life that little girl navigates. It’s okay to be brave. It’s okay to allow some risk to live a full life. If this video is crazy to you you should get out and have an adventure

Everyone loving Barney being a great tour guide and person, but I can't get over what a wonderful dad he seems to be. The memories his daughter has/will have of riding with him on his motorcycle, him letting her drive it and control the throttle, watching him be a generally beloved and respected person in his community, always working, being kind to strangers, are irreplaceable. Wow that's pretty amazing, i've been living in these neighbors (specially manrique) in my entire life and it's nice to see vloggers like you filming these streets and showing the bright side of it in spite of how dangerous it might be and most people specially foreigners would chicken out to trust a stranger to guide you all these places like Manrique Guadalupe, Santo Domingo, Granizal, etc. It was fun and hilarious when you also filmed being on a motorcycle as a passanger with Barney while his little girl (around 5yo) was riding faster and faster, that's nuts! hahaha. When i watched this, i immediately fell in love with your content and started to look up to it, it's really hard to find videos such as this one on youtube which makes your content even more authentic and valuable. Bro I've been to Santo Domingo like 4 times as a gringo with other gringo friends, didn't feel dangerous. It's a small area to walk around with some bars and families, best on a Sunday.
The Paisas are some of the very best people in the entire world! I am returning in 4 days for 5 weeks. I am so happy to be able to make another trip. I think that it will be my 11th time coming to Medellin. Thank you David, for showing us how to assimilate in Colombia.
Also he has a kind heart and wish him the best of life has to offer him. He has a bright future ahead of him. He’s a family man. And that’s a man worth helping out. I would visit him twice a year bring food and clothing too help him out. And if I could I would bless him with a small amount of kindness from the heart.
I love this video. Talk about the beauty of humanity. Dude was looking for the truth, expecting bad stuff and came across an incredibly generous and kind man. I love Colombia.
Been watching you for years David (and I am not just an armchair viewer, I travelled from Australia to explore Bogota in July 2023) and this is your best video yet. Congrats 🎉
This is amazing to see. My family is from Mexico and i go every once in a while but to see Colombia like this was something else. Its more of a city structure yet its on beautiful mountains and its filled with life all around you there. People just living life, hanging out and in the moment. I'd definitely love to visit there one day although I'd prefer to make a friend from out there to guide me since i know how it is going around areas that could be dangerous. Always best to have someone super familiar with the surroundings. Thanks for the video and hopefully you and barney could stay in touch and make more videos for us. Appreciate it.

That risk you took on the motorcycle was completely unnecessary but this video is the best answer to the question about safety in Medellín. Santo Domingo is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city but nice people everywhere shows the essentials of this culture.
WOW!!! That is by far the most amazing content I've seen after following you for almost 3 years now.. ... That's all I can say especially because I know the neighbourhood of Manrique. I hope his detailing business goes good for him. He has got a lot of heart you can tell and the community seems to like him as well.
This is some great adventure you went on. They had some good scooter skill.
He is a tour guy
This is not the first time he's done this he's a natural tour guy for his country ❤
It's not skill, Barney lost his kidney in an accident. It's that life is cheap in these places (not only the slums in Columbia but many places you will see people ride scooters like living isn't important)
@@MarkJohnson-us4sh Yeah, I know that. They live for the day and plans dont mean jackshit to most of the people in similar slum areas. Brazil has many people with similar mindsets.

This was insane and exhilarating at the same time. Santi has the makings of a boss. A little crazy but intelligent and skilled. Glad it all worked out ok🙏🏼
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love how much this reflects Colombia. The people are kind and welcoming especially to tourists. I know so many Colombians wish to change the view foreigners have of their country. It is safe. You will experience beautiful people, culture, and the best food you’ve had in your life.
This video popped up randomly on my feed, and I am so glad I watched it. Thanks for sharing with the world.
Yes it's cool
Santi was so amazing!!!!! That was so nice of him to take care of you in his neighborhood!
That's probably the most genuine and original content I've seen. Also it's by far Davids best content I've seen. This video captivated me and had me watching til the end. Cheers!!
1st time watching this channel. I was absolutely captivated from the very start. Looks beautiful there. Great views. A very different lifestyle from here in Australia where I live.
Ok that was not what I expected when I clicked on the video. It was insane to watch. I was white knuckling the whole time that little girl was overtaking that bus! The roller coaster hills on the motorcycle, the unexpected interactions with people. It was truly authentic. Great video!
The hospitality that bro Barney shows is awesome the world needs more Barneys . Sending love from Hawaii to you and Barney and both your families.
@@dizzy6277 when?
@@wilsonsanchez5997 My mistake. I realized I interpreted something wrong last time I watched and forgot to erase the comment. Thanks for reminding me.
Man. I felt that nervousness with you on the bike.
This was an awesome video. Showing how genuine and friendly the people are.
Reality of it. U can tell they dont want him around. They are being nice so he can leave. Its dangerous for a gringo to be there
What a legend, Santi has that main character vibes! I loved it!
For a hairy barrio, everyone seems super cool.
Barney was a champ, n such a beautiful family, the views were amazing! thanks for the tour!!
Dude, you could not get any more real than this. It’s like an adventure. This video was awesome.
barney is the nicest bloke ive never met, just puts you at ease every time he speaks
Did you really meet Barney????
This content is great David because its real life Medellin of every day Colombians people. Unscripted and authentic content like this gives the viewer a real life like experience. Thank you for your commitment to show and represent Colombia in a real way.
As someone said here, dude is an angel in a human form .. u can tell how much love he has for humanity just by helping a random stranger and treating him like family, the way he loves his daughter and enforces her self-confidence on the motorcycle, all in that chaos of a trafic he manages to keep both of u safe and make u happy. You can tell this peoples not only they have a bright fire in themselves, but they also know to tame it and have their own dreams to achieve.
I also like how serious stuff got when his wife apperead :)) Such an educated and kind human, it warmed my heart and gave me a little more faith in humanity, thank u for sharing !
Great country, super hospitable people.
travel by bus to rio hacha 15 yrs ago and in December por bus a santa marta. beautiful country and nice people. mostly happy in life easy to laugh.
brother, you crazy! I agonized watching the whole time Barney's little girl was driving.
Glad all safe. Great Show!!! Luv from Canada
He took a nice ride with nice people. They took good care of him. What you see as crazy is the everyday life that little girl navigates. It’s okay to be brave. It’s okay to allow some risk to live a full life. If this video is crazy to you you should get out and have an adventure
That was a fun ride! I love the father daughter bond they have and its crazy how much they trust each other
Especially the bus scene must be fun...
26:00 it is so amazing how the world is so different in so many different places. David does a good job of showing his emotions and taking it all in. Fun video!
The danger of the barrio is no match for the perilous motorcycle ride David managed to find.
True!
Indeed! That bike ride with 5 y.o. steering and no helmets made me nervous. And dad telling her to go faster. She's going to be a terror on two wheels by the time she's old enough to ride alone!😁
@@sailincat2822 Dios no bendiga so everything feel ok . By the way I'm from Manrique too .. Nice video Gracias amigo David . Enjoy Medellín , you know we enjoy to live there jajaja chiste paisa 🤗
💯💯💯
Medellin looks lovely! Way to show off your city:)
WOW! That is the cleanest city I have ever seen. I respect people who love and take care of their communities..
This was an amazing video , so unexpected but beautiful interaction with the local, and that young man is good hearted guy you can tell he didn't want to leave you alone for your safety....there is good people everywhere.
One of the best, down-to-earth, real experience videos I've seen in awhile. Makes me wish I knew Spanish so I could experience similar things!
Love the motorbike footage too. Reminds me of my 2 years living in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The world is filled with very kind-hearted and genuinely nice people. So glad you stumbled upon Santi.
Stay safe out there and keep on filming and sharing this amazing perspective of yours with the rest of the world.
What beautiful soul interactions with Santi/Barney! This is the love and magic of life and to see his beautiful daughter and wife, the joy between them all. The fun his daughter had driving and her just brilliant smile made my week! What blessings this journey and video turned out to be! Fun memories being made on camera👏🤙🙏🌅💙
Barney is an absolute legend. Such a good person. I wish him all the best and hope his life is filled with the positivity he puts out there in the world.
No tragic ending thank God. The little girl was a champ🥳
Uff
That little girl driving reminds me of me and my late dad. When i was little he would let me sit on his lap and drive the car. It made me so happy:D
I don't know if UA-cam has awards but you are up for one with this. Motorcycle ride and the views. Great content.
Happy you enjoyed it!
This video is a golden moment of human interaction. Watched every second and loved it. Very unexpected. Kudos for the bravery in going where they tell you not to.
Wow I just visited Medellin from the safety of my wingback chair here in rainy old England, you’ve made a well travelled 77 year old Englishman very happy !! Thank you so much, Santa Domingo looks like a very vibrant community & Barney as you say, is a legend, a lovely open spirited young man with a lovely family & a mind to make his mark in the world to provide a good life for them…
I feel enriched, thank you again 😊🍻👍
Englishman here but a bit younger (32) and had to pleasure to spend 9 months in beautiful Medellin in 2022, incredible city and wonderful communities. It's even more incredible in person, you aren't too old to visit there!
Barney seems like such a genuine and friendly human being. The people there are even friendlier than they are here in Texas.
Barneys such a cool guy, definitely deserves his popularity & that beautiful family!
You did a great job of capturing how steep the hills/mountains are there. Most of the folks seem very nice. Beautiful country, really..Fascinating video, Sir! Well done! ,👏
Amazing Video David. I did a zoom consultation with you in December of 2022 and moved to Medellin July of 2023. Your videos definitely inspired me to make the move and it was a great decision. Loving my new life here. Thank you for your videos, inspiration and insight into this beautiful city.
Barney is creating a strong and fearless daughter! Absolutely love that! What a great dad! He seems like a loyal friend too!
Thank you for filming such a respectful, knowledgeable video. People everywhere are just living their lives and finding joy in the everyday.
No risk, no reward! Great video and it’s refreshing to see the buena gente de Medellin. Puro Corazon.
Well said!
He looks just like them, though, so he blends in well!
Has a white UA-camr ventured there yet?!
@@ntwalipat2Bald and Bankrupt was there, not that deep though... In an other hood somewhere though...
This was one of the more interesting videos I’ve seen. Anywhere.
I have been in some Brazilian favelas, but not Colombian. This guy managed his bike extremely well. Good guy, offering you everything in his home. Very cool.
Barney's daughter's face beaming with a smile @25:24 is the sweetest thing I have seen in a long while. I hope they live long lives full of good health and no worries, people like Barney are a rare find.
David when I visited Medellin last year I got off the Santo Domingo stop and over walked to the outlook where the video ended. That was as far as I was comfortable exploring, however the energy I felt there was one of a kind and I was so curious to see more. I have been searching for videos of the neighborhood ever since. Needless to say, you have provided the full perspective on the neighborhood - this content is legendary! Thank you
This was the best UA-cam video I’ve seen in a long time. From beginning to end ♥️
Great video. Shows how many Colombians truly are.
I walked around that neighborhood alone on my first trip to Colombia in 2014. It changed my perspective on life. People were so poor but so happy.
different things to worry about at that level
Watching that little girl's smile on the bike . . . priceless!
Ese video era leyenda, Colombia es tan peligrosa como tú la haces. La gente normal, como Barney y su familia, son la verdadera gente de Colombia 🙏👍
barney was an OG, he really makes the best of his life... and i love that.. his smile was so effectious.. he deserves to come to the states and make his business.. he is such a beautiful soul more people need to know barney.
Well he’s better off left there in Colombia. wtf is he gonna do here? Where? NYC? 😂 he has a better chance there. Support him there from usa
What does the states offer him? Let him be happy :)
You act like it's everybody's dream to go to USA, a lot of people are happy with what they got
@@princeofrance it is most peoples dream... i know people who have been deported and still want to come back... soo
Santi guy is a kind heart. You hardly meet such people in this world we currently live in. Wish him the best in his endeviours. He makes me feel like flying to Colombia.
Plenty of good and kind hearted people in the world. It's just not what we're shown through media
I have a feeling this might just be the video that goes viral and puts you over the top. I commend your bravery for staying on that bike. I ride motorcycles, but even that was WAY too much for me. May God bless little Salome & keep her safe while she keeps winning.
The part where the daughter was driving by herself made me smile even though it's just so goddamn dangerous 😂
Keep your amazing job!
Santiago is an angel in disguise you find the kindest people in the poorest places everyone whos friends with him can be proud and his wife must be so blessed hes such a charismatic and cute guy 🙂
That was a rush! In a place I would probably never see in my life. Beautiful people , incredible ride! Thanks for sharing David and Santi! Many blessings to you and Barneys family. ❤🙏🏻🇨🇦
I’m from Medellin used to lived 29 years !!! I’m now 54! What this gringos doing right now for suscriptors is insane !! in my times going to Santo Domingo was a suicidal misión I’m from Manrique!! Medallo es una chimba!!!
people will do anything for a bit of attention!
Bro I've been to Santo Domingo like 4 times as a gringo with other gringo friends, didn't feel dangerous. It's a small area to walk around with some bars and families, best on a Sunday.
Barney's such a chill dude. He made this a very special experience and saved you from some potential trouble.
This was so wholesome ❤️ my family is Hispanic and it’s beautiful to see the hospitality that is implemented in our culture!
Great video it shows there are good people in Columbia . Bad things happen every where.
Thank you for speaking the language and respecting people and showing that people are just people everywhere!
What great man Barney is, a real credit to his family and country. Wishing him all the luck possible 👍
Love how he said…”I don’t want you walk down there” what a genuine soul
i smiled through the video. thank you, david and also santi!
Been watching you for years David (and I am not just an armchair viewer, I travelled from Australia to explore Bogota in July 2023) and this is your best video yet. Congrats 🎉
What an adventure.. So great to see people so friendly and respectful of each other
I would love to hire Barney as a tour guide, we are planning a trip this January. Seems like a great guy. I wish him the best!
Oh Wow! The first time I watched one of your videos and I just happened to get the one with Santi and his beautiful family.
What an absolutely incredible human being he is. He was so proud to take you to his home and offer you food. The ride was crazy but he was determined to show you a good time and keep you safe. I can't get over what a great soul Santi is. He deserves nothing but the best and I really hope we get to see him again soon. I just made a contribution on PP. Great video, I'll watch more for sure. Thank You! Santi (or Barney) YOU'RE THE BEST!
Best video I've seen in a LONG time. So real and embodied the true feeling of the adventure and exploring you did. Felt like we were actually there walking and riding with you and Barney. Amazing work bro 🙌
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I smiled this entire video. I'm praying blessings rain down on you and Barney both. ❤❤❤
That risk you took on the motorcycle was completely unnecessary but this video is the best answer to the question about safety in Medellín. Santo Domingo is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city but nice people everywhere shows the essentials of this culture.
The only way you will grow is by taking risks.
Barely a risk
WOW!!! That is by far the most amazing content I've seen after following you for almost 3 years now.. ... That's all I can say especially because I know the neighbourhood of Manrique. All the respect for your new friend BUT all I could do was laugh out loud when he said it was safe. But as we say life happens and you survived it... .. Suerte a todos!!
Thank you! 🙏🏼
that ride on the motocycle was just something you don't see, what an experience
Great video it kept me engaged the whole time. My parents are from Colombia so I enjoy watching bc I’ve never been. Thank you
