Dropping the old blown 2.0 out. Showing my process on dropping it. If you have some tall heavy duty jack stands and an engine hoist you can easily do this!
Hey, great video! I see there's some pre-prep that you did that wasn't in the video. For instance, you disconnected the shifter stuff. It would be helpful to know a sequential checklist of the steps you did before the video. For instance: 1. drain coolant and oil. 2. discharge the A/C (or not). 3. Disconnect wires from (x) etc. TIA
Looking back on the video, yes I definitely could have done a better check list style for the video! You should have good luck checking out Miata.net for a full in depth write on how to drop the engine for sure. I kinda winged it and just recorded it hence my video being kinda sporadic😂
Oh snap! I almost missed this video! I had to dig in my subscribed videos 😋 but I’m here now! Freaking sick🤙 your gonna take this engine and put the white cars engine into this one?
Ive seen some people cut off that long stud, any harm in doing so? Also how do you get the engine back in? I was thinking of picking up a hydraulic table from harbor freight
No harm in cutting the stud a little shorter. I just decided not too. Check out one of my other videos on how I dropped the engine. Same way just in reverse. Used the dolly and a engine hoist. Pretty easy
Hi mate, I wonder if you can help me. I'm currently attempting an engine swap on my MX5 Mk3. I was wondering how you kept all the loom attached to the engine. I've been trying to unhook everything so I can leave the loom on the car and then connect up when I put the replacement engine in, but some of the places where the connectors are seem to be near on inaccessible. Did you just disconnect everything from the fusebox or some other method. I feel like I'm a bit stuck at the moment.
@@MitchelYardley Thanks for that. Another quick question, are all 8 bolts holding the powerplant frame the same big nuts, as I seem to have some that are slightly smaller in the pile of nuts I've got. I seem to have 4 of one type and 4 of a slightly smaller type.
Superb driveway skills. Very impressed!
Nice work as always. I learned to wedge a 2x4 between the diff and frame to keep it from rotating when the PPF is removed.

Cool video. I found you from Reddit. I hope things look up for you.

Yup this one has rod knock, so I’m throwing in my cammed 2.5 in 🤘🏻
How long did it take you to do the removal of the engine?
First time it took me about 4 hours. I can do it now in about 2.

Does anything need to be disconnected in the middle console or will the shifter drop out with the trans?
Center console needs to be removed and shifter does need to be removed, I guess unless the car was high enough up but it’s 3 10mm bolts to remove.
@@MitchelYardley cheers man
Would it be less sketchy by pulling off the front clip and rad support?
Not entirely sure you can do it that way
Only thing that sucks about this is that you cant roll the car around afterwards. Not ideal if your arnt doing everything in a day or two

The engine loom side stayed with the engine/trans. I didn’t connect anything in the fuse block panel side in the engine bay.

All 8 should be the same nuts.
