LOL! When you said you were going to read Simon R Green in my head I’m saying, “NOOOOOO!” Then you DNFed and I was sorry I had not been able to save you. Bad books are time you can never get back so it’s great that you didn’t keep struggling through it. I wasn’t that clever with the book of his that I tried. I have thought about Green Glass House. Now it’s on my list. Thanks!
you at the beginning of this blog is me talking to relatives & friends not in the south every winter. I think they've forgotten that I, too, have lived in a winter hellscape and I now intentionally live places where a couple inches of snow is an ephemeral, special event I don't have to put up with daily.
I'm loving this dispersion of vlogs in between the more chatty videos as I think the mid-point check-ins are some of the best parts of book reviews. Good stuff
Great vlog. As an Alaskan I won't speak of snow but of the fact you have the original Yesterday and Today album with the original butcher cover on it!!?!
My snow days here in Arkansas was spent waiting by the phone while my daughter had her baby. She’s here though so my first grandbaby was born this afternoon so not really reading for a few days. 😎🦩
I loved this video! We've had two heavy snowfalls here where I live (mountains of New Mexico) in the last couple of weeks, and I also read Shiver and Rock Paper Scissors, both of which I'd been saving for the snow I knew was coming early in the year. I was very pleased with having super atmospheric reads to match the cozy, chilly weather, and I think I'll have to make sure I save a couple of chilly thrillers for every winter from now on, lol. I definitely added a couple of these titles for future winter TBRs. I'm really enjoying all these vlogging videos! Btw, I also often struggle with dual timelines, especially at the beginning of the story. Usually one of the timelines makes me impatient, lol.
The kitties are just wonderful. Sweet and salty, as they should be 😂. It's nice to see you having down time and enjoying books. It definitely is my favorite thing to do!❤
I can't wait to get to Shiver and No Exit. I've been eye-balling them for a while now. And with your endorsement, they've definitely moved up in my TBR. ❄️
"Snuggling and Fighting" -- Yes that's that's the definition of Family ! It was nice to visit your Snowy Day. Happy to see your Cats; they add to the charm of your vlog. Cheers.
I read Greenglass House a few years ago and don't remember much about it other than it reminded me of The Westing Game. The Clare Fergusson mystery series is one of my favorites--very angsty.
If you want I am happy to ship the snow from Canada … 😅😅😅 Glad someone likes snow ❄️- loving the sweaters. And to be honest the road and outdoor shots (with the music) look lovely
I am in Georgia native born so I know what you mean by the snow. We actually got 3 inches in Homer. It was also the first time of snow for the cat and dog so we got a good chuckle watching them react to it. It was a treat but it is nice that it doesn’t hang on to long.
Well now I'm interested in No Exit when I wasn't really before and Greenglass House sounds like one that might be fun to read w/ my tween. Hope you do a part 2 as I'm always up for snowy set books
I really liked Raven Black. I would say it has the isolation trope in a way because it is set on a small island, but they can definitely come and go. The tv adaptation, Shetland, is probably my favourite show of all time!
I read Six Wakes by Mur Lafferty recently and it’s a SF true closed circle mystery and I had a lot of fun with it! Would recommend it if you end up having another one of these videos!
Love your vlogs! I found Greenglass House took me longer to read than expected, too, but still liked it and loved the cozy/snowy vibes. I was on the fence about No Exit but you've convinced me to give it a go. Adding to BOTM Feb cart right now 🥶
Oooo, I'm so excited for you to pick up In the Bleak Midwinter at some point! I'd give it 5/5 for snowy atmosphere FOR SURE (though I'm Californian, what do I know?)
I love the snowy vibes and I am sitting here in New Hampshire where all of our snow has unseasonably melted after a lackluster showing last week, so this vlog provided me with the vibes I am missing ❄️
Western Washington is the same for lack of snow prep. We get a couple inches and we just shut down. I love it! Also the info dumpy introduction the lady gave in your DNF was so funny. I might know some people who introduce themselves like that is real life 😂
Snow + cats + books = 🥰 I was surprised by Greenglass House--started out feeling a bit "meh" (and honestly a bit confused about what the book actually is?) but ended up really enjoying it. I'm hoping to check out the next in the series soon.
Always get so excited when I see you've uploaded. Also...your sweater game is once again immaculate. I wanted to ask you a question and I wasn't sure where the best platform would be to ask so I guess I'll just put it here: I know you have certain editions of books that you collect and love. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on the Chiltern classics editions? I think they're beautiful but I wish they did more of them...
I collect some of the Chiltern editions, and they come out with new titles every year. I don't know if you were hoping for a specific title or author they don't already have, but if you are I'd keep an eye on their upcoming releases.
re: your snow disclaimer, I'm sitting here in California going "5 inches of snow!! wow!!" 😂 LOL that bit you read in the Simon Green book has to be one of the worst examples of awkward character introductions I've ever heard!!! I'm picturing a nametag that's like 'hi, my name is Bitter Ex-Wife, please ask me about my entire backstory and I will explain it you!' I read Greenglass House around Christmas of 2019 and really enjoyed it! yes, the family and adoption themes were lovely. I also don't love treasure hunt type mysteries, but I enjoyed the characters and vibes so much it didn't bother me too much. And I was surprised at how some of the big character things turned out! loved this - I'm sitting here with my candle burning and this was such a wonderful cozy video to watch 🥰
Very jelly for the snow/rain....sunny 🌞 here, but inspired to read a snowy book...going to start The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearce..been on my tbr for awhile.
Ahhh I missed this. So funny: I loved the past timeline in Shiver haha. And yeah the CW got me. I mention them in my GR review and YT review b/c I personally found them icky. I do wonder if I'd had a warning, re: how Shiver unfolded pacing wise b/c I wonder if I would have liked it more! I'm glad I warned you haha. Also... both my adult thrillers are going to be dual timeline :P
Snowy book recommendations The Hunting Party Snow by John Banville Snow by Orhan Pamuk Isolation recommendations The Guest List The Shetland series by Ann Cleeves Only Ever Yours by Louise O’Neill
As someone who rarely seasonally reads I respect your dedication to snow in this vlog. If your looking for more atmospheric middle grade I'd recommend the Small Spaces series by Katherine Arden. It definitely gets a 5/5 scary rating from me because Arden writes fantastic middle grade horror and each book in the series focuses on a specific season which is fun
Loving the cozy vibes in the this vlog! I want a snow day too...Also cannot believe you are watching Mormon Stories in the background. I'm a long time fan and semi-in and semi-out Mormon! Crazy!
Great video The Greenglass House is on my TBR as well. If you have never read Smillas Sense of Snow by Peter Hoeg you may enjoy it on a snowy day as well. It is one of my all time favorites by a Danish writer with a compelling mystery set in Greenland and Copenhagen.
Kitties! I don't get snow at all, but it's unusually cold this year and we're also getting rain frequently, so it's just gloomy. I'm also reading a snowy book, Dead Voices by Katherine Arden (middle grade horror, ski lodge). Arden is a fave writer especially for atmospheric winter scenes and I've waited a long time to read this book. Greenglass house is also in my middle grade tbr, the summary gave me Gravity Falls vibes? but there are many other books before it. The snow at your place looks so pretty. Is it weird that what you said about No exit reminded me of a Batman (2.0) whump/ hurt-comfort fanfic...
In Canada, we call what you have on a lopi sweater. Are they called that where you are? (I'm not sure where that is). Ah, you just mentioned Tennessee.
I think you will love the book called why she wrote by Lauren burke and Hannah k. Chapman it's a graphic novel about inspiration, and influence behind the difference female classic authors from the 18th ,19th and 20th centuries
Lovely snowy video.Amazed you have a TV.When do you have time to watch it?!Talking of Ann Cleeve....She's extremely popular here in the UK with TV adaptions."Raven Black" is the first of her Shetland novels and the BBC has done several TV adaptions.ITV has done many of her Vera novels and recently did "The Long Call" about a gay detective returning to his deeply religious mother living in a devout remote commune.I haven't read any of her books but guess they are all rather somber from the adaptions.Cozy ....No!
Mara (in Tennessee): We got snow! Mara (from the future): Little disclaimer before the comments start... Me (from Minnesota) slowly backing off my soap box. I love a good snow day for reading. Thanks for the vid.
I was hoping to love Shiver and it was my first read of the year. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. I thought the characters did read like real people but that they were insufferable and dull. Because they seemed realistic, I found myself getting annoyed with them for continuing to hang out together and being so awful and boring.
Ishmael is #notlikeotherguys.❄️
and yet somehow, is exactly like other guys
I give this vlog 5/5 for snowiness & 5/5 for coziness ☺️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Yes!!
I totally agree with you on the dual time line. That is a hurdle I have to get over when I choose a book to read.

Absolutely love your kitties names! My kitty Charlie is 17 yrs old and is a total snuggle bug.
What a GREAT idea for old albums! Love it!

Watching your vlog on a snowy day with my cat.
Excellent, cozy, snowy vlog. Yay!
Yay, thank you!
I’m eastern Canadian. I’ve got months of the white. Bring on cozy mysteries and epic fantasies. 😆
As a fellow tennessean I know exactly when this was filmed, I too remember the 70 degree tornado snow
Great vlog. As an Alaskan I won't speak of snow but of the fact you have the original Yesterday and Today album with the original butcher cover on it!!?!
Greetings from Scotland🏴!
I love books set in Alaska - all that snow! ❄❄❄❄❄
It's an 1980s reprint, so not the holy grail, but I love the cover design so it's a fav!
In the House of BooksLikeWhoa, we love Isolated Close Circle Mysteries + Snow Themes 😂
I loved this snowy, cozy vlog!
My snow days here in Arkansas was spent waiting by the phone while my daughter had her baby. She’s here though so my first grandbaby was born this afternoon so not really reading for a few days. 😎🦩
Awe! Congratulations.
Congrats!
I'm so glad you finally read exit!!!

In a world of ‘The Dark Side of the Road’, be ‘No Exit’.
Love 💖💖💖 your sweater and it looks just like the nice kitty 🐈🐈🐈 behind. Have a great new year 🎉🎉🎉
This made me think of the movie Werewolves Within. If you like campy comedy/horror and feel up for another isolated snowy setting I'd recommend it!

I've been really enjoying doing it recently!

“No exit” and “Greenlight house” for me. Loved the snowy views and the kitties 💓
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for cosy snowy vibes on this vlog, thanks!
I need to pick up no exit while it’s still cold outside
It's the perfect time of year for it 100%

Loved this vlog, very cozy, and I appreciated the book reviews! I enjoyed "A Solitude of Wolverines" you might want to still pick it up this winter:)❄

‘Palatial Pad’ sounds like Royalty’s version of a spare house.
I used to be that person who could finish a Dan Brown Tome in 8-9 hours. My Record Speed Reading was 7 hours. I want that person back.
Have you seen Werewolves Within? It popped into my head while you going over your stack of books... Thinking you might enjoy it. 😊

Totally fair! I actually found them less insufferable than most thrillers so I probably rolled with it more than is reasonable :D
