Shaggy Manes at 3:38 it appears. Nicely done, now I don't feel too bad for driving 100 miles and walking 8 to only kill one woodcock! So thanks for that, haha. Super windy in Michigan last weekend, makes for skittish grouse. My poor dog kept pointing to where they had been shortly before they flushed wild on us.
Those motorcycle tracks at 6:15 are from me and a friend riding up there recently! Also fyi we also were riding up fs road 36 off glacier creek road a couple days ago and saw lots of grouse higher up.
Oh no way! That's crazy haha well stop and say hi if ya ever see me wandering around in the mountains. FS road 36.. is that heliotrope ridge road? I think there's a mountain there literally called Grouse Mountain!
@@CascadeBackcountry I agree with you about the frying and hot sauce lol. But you said you also season the flour breading as well, so I’m sure that was good too.
This is the weekly channel I look forward to the most. Thank you. P.S. At least you didn't get skunked! 3rd Annual buffalo wing challenge was a success.
When I asked them what they were doing, they said they were live streaming to UA-cam! I asked if I could put them in my video and they seemed stoked about it. Very random encounter!
I heard from a little birdie hqha that the Capitol State Forest is decent for grouse. Just remember, your airgun has to be .22 caliber. Good luck out there!
@@CascadeBackcountry yeah I specifically stepped down to a .25 for that purpose, as I understand it has to be .22-.25 with an FPS of at least 600. Thanks for the hint, I have done some hiking up there but have never hunted.
Backcountry Rave??? So strange. Ya never know what your going to find, they should have been wearing there Bigfoot costumes. That was fun, Im gonna have to go out for a hunt soon. Keep up the good videos!
I lived in Oregon most of my life and done alot of grouse hunting! Probably one of the most challenging birds to hunt! If they dont think you see them they will freeze and you will walk right passed them until you almost step on them! Then they take flight with such furry and noise it freaks you out so much it hard to regain your composure to aim and they're Gone! Their favorite escape technique is to fly down hill if the can and burie themselves in a thick fir or cedar tree and freeze until you go away! Good luck! The most I have ever taken in one hunt is three. One other thing, they love black elderberry in the fall .
Yeah I agree with everything you said haha If ya walk too fast they'll just sit still in the bushes until you're on top of em then give ya a heart attack! Awesome bird to hunt for sure!
I’m in snohomish county and trying to get into grouse hunting. Do you just go and find any random Forrest roads? I have found a couple gated roads near darrington. Should I just start waking them?
It’s strange , we had a really wet spring , which I heard is always bad for gamebird hatches but PNW grouse I’m not sure.. wet springs are the norm , or at least used to be. Sometimes I wonder if some hens occasionally get two broods , an early one and then a later one…. like you say sometimes I see super small chicks in October that I think might be a second hatch. Idk for sure though
@@BilboSandbaggins just the decommissioned roads, good mix of alders and conifers, tons of roads and grouse around Darrington, Sauk, Suiattle, Segelson...
@@guaporeturns9472 I think so, I've seen two different stages of young birds, some with 4 inch tails and some with 2 inch tails, little bumblebees, lol
Awesome! I am going to try that if and when I get a grouse this year. I have been out 2x so far but skunked both times. Like you I have flushed a few but did not seen them. Had a grouse flush about 20 feet from my head but couldn't get the shot off in time because of the trees. Anxious to get back out there. Thanks for the video.
got it done this week. got one ruffed grouse but should have gotten 3 but things happen. thanks for the inspiration. fried the grouse up buffalo style very tasty. no rabbit but added a chicken thigh. @@CascadeBackcountry
It warms my heart to see our precious native species like the Western Forest DJ in such abundance
Ahahaaahahaahhhahaha!!!!!! I pulled up there intending to cook thqt grouse and there was a full blown rave happening!
Those wings and legs looked amazing!
Man, not gonna lie, they were REALLY good!

Thanks! Can't wait to do it again!
I’m glad I found your channel. I love to hunt grouse so your channel is a welcome find. Subscribed. Thanks - from Hells Canyon, Frank

Lol great video bud! Looked delicious!
It was freakin delicious!
Those shaggy manes go good with grouse
I almost took em!
100%
Strong work my friend!
Thank you!
When you cut to the dudes with the speakers, it was like hmm this is taking an unexpected turn!
Yeah I felt the same way haha Definitely wasn't expecting to find a full blown rave in the mountains. It was pretty cool tho!
Looks delicious!!
Give it a try! I think probably anything is good if you fry it and put hot sauce on it haha

Wow, that's awesome to hear! Thank you!! Yeah I look forward to the buffalo grouse wings... they're frickin delicious!
I have not seen too many rabbits this year, but the Ruffed Grouse has been everywhere. I'm going to have to try Frank's with some grouse.
Yeah not a bad year for the grouse so far! Definitely try the Frank's. Good stuff. Thanks for watchin!
Cool harvest, looked tastey. I bet those other guys brought their own shrooms. Lol.🍄 🎶
Yeah I bet they did haha!
Wow.. that looked really good. Thanks for the video.
Who were the guys spinning? That was random.
It was really good. I have no idea who they were but they were killing it! Haha Thanks for watching!
Can’t wait for those dudes to find themselves on UA-cam

@@CascadeBackcountry how deep in the backcountry were you???
That looks soooo good. I’d probably use some Stubbs BBQ in lieu of Franks Red Hot
That'd be great!
Man I so want to hunt for Grouse with my airgun in W. Washington but have no clue where to begin in and around Olympia.

Are you going deer hunting this Saturday?
I went for the high hunt and I'll probably go out again Monday or something!
Nice work on the multi species hunt. Whole bottle of Frank’s red hot, whole container of personal wipes 🧻 👍
If there were a toilet in the woods, I woulda destroyed it!
I missed a couple of birds on saturday. Got a bird on sunday morning. Never did see any rabbit.
One is better than none! Good to be out seeing birds tho. Whenever I see rabbits, it's always on accident haha
I feel your struggle … was a GREAT early season struggle my way. They’re starting to show themselves how however. Great video
Tricky birds! They're definitely popping out with the slightly cooler weather. Thanks for watchin!
What county in Washington you spend most of your time? We have tuns of birds up here in Klickitat you should give it a look
Oh man, I am about as from there as you can get in WA! Haha. I'm in the forest northwest corner
If you want "Buffalo Wings", use Franks Red Hot Buffalo sauce.
Very detail oriented I see haha this is what they had at the store where I live so this is what we had. Thanks for watchin!
Great channel , what choke and shit were you using for this vid ?
Thanks! Shotgun is a CZ Upland Ultralight over under. Improved cylinder choke top. Modified bottom. I think I was using #7 shot. Something like that
@@CascadeBackcountry that's awesome man thank you
Tons of young birds this year, must have had a great hatch, North Snohomish Co, passed on 10+ birds so far, really young and small
Agreed! We're only a few counties apart so I imagine bird numbers are similar

A whole bottle of Frank’s? Get outta town!!
Go big and then go home... I always say 🤣
Frank’s Red Hot lady is in! You should take her on you next catch and cook. Those tasty bites looked legit!
Haha hella tasty bites!
Nice
Thanks!
If you're not shooting grouse in 4k, are you even living? As always, great video.
Haha I only shoot things in 4k! Thanks!
What's in your seasoned flour?
This one was just salt, pepper and garlic cuz the Frank's redhot needed to shine haha
