The fact that you went back to get bug spray and then continued your adventure is exactly why I’m subscribed. You’re a trooper and I throughly enjoy your vids. Lookin forward to some “grousey” walks soon too. Best of luck out there.
@@CascadeBackcountry just got home, awesome trip, caught my PB trout. The mosquitos were horrible! However many bites it takes to kill a man, I was THREE away. 🤣 (I had to one up you.)
You caught your PB trout!!??? I mean... you've done quite a bit of fishing. Musta been a nice trout. I gotta go to this lake! Glad the skeeters didn't end ya 😆
@@CascadeBackcountry yes! My best trout, not considering steelhead, although these high lake trout thought they were steelhead. I fished 9 lakes in 4 days, 25 miles total. It was a pretty awesome trip.
The flying murderers are the worst this year! Glad you had a good trip. That is the first time I have seen a spruce grouse doing his mating dance. So cool.
Mosquito Coils work pretty good!! I went camping last month, here in Idaho, and they, along with the heat were unbearable! Just got back from camping today, and the mozzies were gone........just a lot of flies and wasps!! Caught a fish on a Cleo.....it came out, flew towards me and stuck in my arm. All good fun......great vdeo!!!!!
Heat plus mosquitos... that's a rough combo. The frickin fish hook flew back and stuck in your arm!? Wtf! Haha I had to go the ER when I was a kid cuz I got a hook in my thumb. I feel your pain
Super serious, "you literally can't be outside." 😂😂😂 Been there man, glassing and mosquitos is tough! I started bringing a Ben's bug net jacket which is infused with "insect shield" which ai think is just permethrin, and it works pretty well! The face part actually unzips and you can unzip it some to glass out of, althought the zipper functionality doesnt work perfectly for glassing. Permethrin on your clothes and picardin on skin helps alot too but also not perfect. I am going to try a thermacell backpacker next week during opening weekend bear after seeing how thick they still are while scouting this weekend.
I was serious.. outside was a no go haha I may have to look into one of those head nets. I really don't like stuff over my face for some reason though. I have a thermacell. The problem is thqt it doesn't work at high elevation. Good luck out there man!
I have seen places up here in Alaska that, with a fire, thermacell, and 100 percent DEET, still didn't stop or even slow down the mosquitoes. I feel your pain.
I just got back from three days in Henry M Jackson Wilderness. The bugs were the worst I've ever seen. Rain, sun, and even wind didn't seem to faze them. Fortunately I had a mosquito net stashed away in my pack.
Interesting - we ran into each other on your trip near there with the snow. We may have just missed each other on this trip. I was thankful that I had treated my clothes with Permethrin spray. I had a mosquito head net and managed to keep from losing too much blood to those things. If you've never tried the Permethrin spray, I'd give it a try. I even treat the mesh door on my tent.
I wonder how many people have survived harsh winter conditions only to succumb to the mosquitoes in the spring/summer. I think they can break a man mentally. 😂 Cool video man
@@Longtrailside the thermacell runs off a gas canister. There's not enough pressure (or something like that) at high elevation. I googled it once when my thermacell didn't turn on at like 7,500 ft

@@user-no2ei6dp2q never again! I actually just got home from a trip a few miles from where this video was shot and only 2 weeks later... I didn't need to use bug spray at all. wtf haha
It’s insane how visible those mosquitoes are as you’re in pain yelling and slapping. Even at a distance away from the camera when you’re glassing out that hill side those mosquitos are even coming up to the frame. Trying to get some blood from your viewers or something

Dang.. those mosquitoes looked thick. Little pains in the ass they are. Pretty cool seeing some Moose.
Thanks for the video
They almost took me out, permanently! haha My first moose encounter in thqt area. Been waiting for that to happen for years. Thanks for watchin!

What was rocking on the game camera?
Rocking? Walking? In the last shot?
@@CascadeBackcountry haha! Better phrased question, what triggered the camera to record?
Mosquitoes, deer flies, horseflies, they're terrible this year
Just curious, what mosquito repellent did you use that worked for this trip? I struggle to find mosquito repellent that is actually effective.
Deet
Deet works great but it can mess up your gear. I tend to use picaridin as it works pretty well and doesn't melt any of my stuff 😁
@CascadeBackcountry Roger that, I don't like using deet, but it works and I'm a bug magnet, must be all the beer and garlic I consume, LMAO
What was that grouse doing?
Partying? I think he did it all for the nookie
Dude! Get a thermacell
