Linklight plays Super Mario Galaxy but it is on the PC! Using the power of emulation, specifically the Dolphin emulator. Thanks to an incredible HD 4K texture pack I was able to give this game a breath of fresh air. They really reached for the stars with this one.

This looks SO COOL, Mario Galaxy was THE childhood for 2000’s kids, and seeing the difference between the two, the game aged very well!

whats crazy is that the base visuals STILL look amazing. Definitely one of nintendo's best games visually. The fact that it's taken nintendo this long to make a new mario game with more unique visuals (mario wonder) is really a testament to how great this game has aged. I really hope nintendo gives smg1/2 a proper rerelease/remaster for the switch outside of the 3d all stars bundle.

idk if this is weird, but i played this game as a 10 year old and ever since then ive had dreams about the observatory. it was just a staple to my childhood, and just playing this game in general. always so nice to see this gameplay every so often.
Love how much enjoyment your getting from seeing this classic game look like this. It really is a beautiful game that in 4k with 4k textures looks great by todays standards. This game to me is what i think of when you think platformer.

the queen bee's fur just seems like a layered texture with increased alpha radius as it expands outward, could be wrong but thats what it looks like
i'm not one to get all surprised and blown away by graphics, but MAN does this game look so much better with the HD texture pack and custom resolutions within the emulator's settings.
i could never go back and replay this game on my original wii system ever again because of this.
I'd love to see a comparison to the Switch's 3d all stars version of Super Mario Galaxy (spoiler alert it looks nicer than the Switch version, the switch version lacks anti aliasing which can be fixed with the mcable or mclassic, or a TV's inbuilt processing)

Try rendering at 1440p or 4k even if you only have a 1080p screne, I call it brute force anti-aliasing.

I like that 3D worlds champions Road has remixed music from Mario Galaxy Gusty Garden Galaxy. Also, Tall Trunk Galaxy and 3D worlds plessie theme is a remixed version Mario 64s slide theme.

that "curving line effect" that you experienced is called moiré effect/pattern
which I believe can be fixed by increasing the anisotropic filtering

Yeah only difference is that this is 4k instead of 1080p native upscaling

You can notice some textures show grids. Which is fine but it definitely threw me off sometimes

My issue with Wii emulation is I can't figure out how to properly map Wii controls to a gamepad, outside of mapping each input to a specific movement, which is really awkward for sections where you're navigating with bubbles, gliding on a ray or rolling on a ball. Plus, with Dolphin (at least the one I'm using) I can't seem to work out how to assign controller mappings and graphical settings per game, unlike with emulators like PCSX2 and Duckstation.
I know some of you will be saying: "Just get a USB sensor bar and use actual Wii controls", well how do you expect me to do that on a portable device like a Steam Deck, especially when I'm on holiday and there's no TV to connect to, or room for said accessories?

No, Dolphin lets you bind whatever you want as the controls, can be a Switch Pro controller, can be XBox controller, can be the keyboard, the choice is yours
