Also falc dropped the BALL on sm64. With a fast enough dive recover, mario gets clean in BOB.
For all the reference he made to pannen's iconic video, he did not follow through with his research. Especially considering how big of a deal it was 1 month ago that someone finally actually did beat the game without the a button. (albeit, due to an emulation error on the wii version)

"You can press B to jump!" for most games, but in NSBU at 10:27 you eliminated it because A was still a jump button.... but BOTH control schemes had a 'backup' jump button. The default controlls have X for jump, and the secondary controls have B for jump. Why was NSBU eliminated? You should have been able to complete the entire game only pressing X/B for jump.
The GBA versions of Yoshi's Island all use R to throw eggs, but A becomes jump.... except on the Wii U Virtual Console, where you can, just like NSBU, use either A or X to jump.
I 100% believe that more games should have made it through, because many of them let you use alternatives to the A button.

Think he specifically called out Mario 64 in the intro. It is possible, but it's a whole journey involving Tool Assistance and an advanced knowledge of the game's code and mechanics to cheese through a bunch of things.
SM64 no A-press is only beatable on the Wii Virtual Console edition by using **a glitch** caused by the emulator.
Using emulation isn't against the rules, but using emulation *for the sole reason of abusing a glitch that's caused by the emulator* obviously isn't within the rules.

3d land was my favorite mario game growing up and still is to this day. I beat it 4 times to obtain all 4 starts and my autistic ass was so excited throughout the entire video to see it win. Amazing video and amazing work !

I think 3D World is also possible because of using Wii Motes.
@@Sonezan In 3D World at least one player has to use the Gamepad, for the touch controls. In that game, if you play single-player you use only the Gamepad. so I think it's a similar story for that game compared to the Switch version, but I'm not sure because I never played the WiiU version of 3DW

@@theomuammar3772actually, the player with the gamepad doesn't need to control a character, they can work as an assist. You can in fact play with just normal wii controller

In defense of both NSMB U and Mario 3D World, both were originally released on Wii U, whcih can utilize the Wii Remote- which would have alllowed them to progress, probably to the same level as NSMBW. Still a fantastic video, and i imagine you may not own a WII U lol.

Seeing 3D land made me happy in a way i never thought it would. That was the first mario game I ever played. I loved my 3DS. Damn I know I'm still young but I feel old.
If I remember correctly, NSMBU is actually possible in the original, not the remake, because the WiiU remote uses 1 and 2 to run and jump. Justice for New Soup U
NSLU would also apply in this case as well. Good eye sport :)

Lots of people mentioning that you could use sideways Wii remotes in NSMBU and 3D World, but to add onto that...
The optimal way to play NSMBWii is with a Wii Remote + Nunchuck, which makes A the primary button. So since NSMBWii has a control method that includes A, then NSMBU & 3D World inlcuding a method that includes 2 instead should be recognized.

You can get into bob-omb battlefield in SM64 without the A button with a dive recover. As a matter of fact, on the wii virtual console version of the game, you can beat the entire game without pressing A. On any other version you need to press A once in Bowser 2.
I know I’m late, but I just wanna say that New Soup U can be played on the Wii U with a regular wiimote, and can thus be completed without pressing A. Furthermore, where 3D land has the letter “A” appear 40 seconds in (when Mario reads Bowser’s letter), New Soup U lasts a whole 1 minute and 40 seconds before the “A” in “Acorn Plains” appears, making it the actual champion.

In NSMB Wii, A also helps you go in a bubble, but only for multiplayer. The idea behind this mechanic is that when another player dies, they get in a bubble, where they can't be harmed, but another player must pop it. If all players go in a bubble, die, or both, you return to the map. My brother and I would abuse this mechanic by just having one of us go somewhere, and the other would go in a bubble.

You can get into the Super Mario 64 BB painting. Do a dive and press B again and Mario does a somersault and gets enough air to get in.

For the record, in NSMBW, there actually is a main usage for the A button in levels. In multiplayer mode, you can use the A button to enter a bubble if there is at least one other player not in a bubble

Technically nsmbU survives round 1 as you had the controls set to control 2 before hand cause by default it’s control 1
