Also falc dropped the BALL on sm64. With a fast enough dive recover, mario gets clean in BOB.
For all the reference he made to pannen's iconic video, he did not follow through with his research. Especially considering how big of a deal it was 1 month ago that someone finally actually did beat the game without the a button. (albeit, due to an emulation error on the wii version)

Think he specifically called out Mario 64 in the intro. It is possible, but it's a whole journey involving Tool Assistance and an advanced knowledge of the game's code and mechanics to cheese through a bunch of things.
SM64 is only beatable on the Wii Virtual Console edition, which is not allowed in the rules since it's emulation. It also requires TAS. Edit: to the people missing my point, I was talking about using emulation *for the sole reason of abusing a glitch that's caused by the emulator* would be against the rules of the video.

@@terablastno rules say something against emulation. He plays the NSO versions of NES/SNES games, which are emulated.
3d land was my favorite mario game growing up and still is to this day. I beat it 4 times to obtain all 4 starts and my autistic ass was so excited throughout the entire video to see it win. Amazing video and amazing work !

If I remember correctly, NSMBU is actually possible in the original, not the remake, because the WiiU remote uses 1 and 2 to run and jump. Justice for New Soup U

@@dorthko No actually, from my own personal experience (My wiiu battery is fully dead) I was able to play with a pro controller or Wii remote instead

In defense of both NSMB U and Mario 3D World, both were originally released on Wii U, whcih can utilize the Wii Remote- which would have alllowed them to progress, probably to the same level as NSMBW. Still a fantastic video, and i imagine you may not own a WII U lol.

Seeing 3D land made me happy in a way i never thought it would. That was the first mario game I ever played. I loved my 3DS. Damn I know I'm still young but I feel old.
10:25 The WiiU game version is possible without pressing A, because it works exactly the same way as New Super Mario Bros. Wii (A only is used to View Map and enter a bubble in multiplayer). 2 is used for jumping, entering levels, etc.
I think 3D World is also possible because of using Wii Motes.
@@Sonezan In 3D World at least one player has to use the Gamepad, for the touch controls. In that game, if you play single-player you use only the Gamepad. so I think it's a similar story for that game compared to the Switch version, but I'm not sure because I never played the WiiU version of 3DW

@@theomuammar3772actually, the player with the gamepad doesn't need to control a character, they can work as an assist. You can in fact play with just normal wii controller

It is possible to enter a level in Mario 64 without glitches, but it is very precise.
I believe you can also get some stars without glitches, but not complete the game.

You can get into bob-omb battlefield in SM64 without the A button with a dive recover. As a matter of fact, on the wii virtual console version of the game, you can beat the entire game without pressing A. On any other version you need to press A once in Bowser 2.

You can get into the Super Mario 64 BB painting. Do a dive and press B again and Mario does a somersault and gets enough air to get in.

sad to see SM64 eliminated so quickly when we now know it’s entirely possible to beat it with no A presses! requires a lot of tech, but it can be done. there’s also a couple other games where using alternate controllers or inputs works, like using a wiimote for the wii u remakes or i think ZL instead of A for world select in odyssey (he got screwed in odyssey as another commenter said by pressing B inside the odyssey and locking himself outside where only A lets you set sail again. if he’d just pressed ZL inside the odyssey it would’ve progressed)

In Super Mario 64 you can actually get in to bob-omb battlefield, you have to dive and and then press the b button again and you are gonna get in with correct timing

I know I’m late, but I just wanna say that New Soup U can be played on the Wii U with a regular wiimote, and can thus be completed without pressing A. Furthermore, where 3D land has the letter “A” appear 40 seconds in (when Mario reads Bowser’s letter), New Soup U lasts a whole 1 minute and 40 seconds before the “A” in “Acorn Plains” appears, making it the actual champion.

For the record, in NSMBW, there actually is a main usage for the A button in levels. In multiplayer mode, you can use the A button to enter a bubble if there is at least one other player not in a bubble
