    I loved these when they were new, styling aged very well.
    When they were new I never understood why these werent wildy popular.
    This example is, well, let me just say, you are lucky and I am jealous.

      It was mostly because of Chrysler's poor financial shape at the time. Quality control was also an issue, and also GM had a two year head start on their hugely successful downsized big cars.

    Very nice example of Chrysler R body cars made from 1979-81. I still love the New Yorker C bodies from 75-78.

      And my favorite is the 1969-71 New Yorkers. The simple and clean lines of that era have aged super well. In contrast the more squared off, slab look of the 70s, while newer, are dated looking. But yes, any Chrysler was always a step up from other cars on the road at the time.

    I like the extetior and interior colors as well as the wire wheels. I noticed these are the same wire wheels that was on the Chrysler Cordoba and the LeBaron for the 1979 models!

    This might be the most elegant car ecer made by man. Me and my dad were dedicated to buying a rust free classic car and this model happened to be the perfect find. Ours is a 79 new yorker 5th avenue edition, also with the 360 with a 2 barrel carb. Someday, I'd like to change it to a stock 4 barrel that was optional for it back in 79. Brings the hp to almost 200 which is very solid for a car that's actually pretty light for 70s cars.

      But isn't there a concern from the Lean Burn computer system? 1977-1979 models have issues but haven't any complain on the 79-81 vs the 77-78 previous generation.

      I had a 1979 Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue with the no cost option 318 2 barrel carb. Super super rare to find one with the no cost more fuel efficient motor. Bought it from the original owner in SE PA. Nicest car i ever owned.

      I heard good reviews and bad ones as well. My Father factory ordered a 1980 Fifth Avenue. It never fell apart on him. The only issues were starter motors; it seems once a year; a rebuilt starter was installed. Perhaps if he had a new starter installed, the problem would be gone!

    • @ayryz1
      @ayryz1 Рік тому +1

      @@markross9781 My 1980 New Yorker had that same issue! It's starter also sounded like a "washtub full of marbles" as one car magazine stated in a review! After the second time, I replaced it with a new starter from a 1977 Cordoba and never had a n issue again.

    When he said people bought them and then threw them away he's not exaggerating. I think the last time I saw one that was mint was around 1985-1988. If I saw one in 1989 on the road it was typically in junk condition ready for the crusher at any moment.

      Yep, really. The later units were far better and more reliable than the first type and made the spark pugs last 50,000 miles with no issues. I've owned 6 Chryslers with "Lean Burn" and only the 1976 and early 1977 gave me any troubles. Those were replaced with later current factory units from the dealer and never gave any more issues.

      @@ayryz1I thought that early 80s Chrysler imperials had that system and it was very problematic. They recalled them and put carburetors on.

    • @martinliehs2513
      @martinliehs2513 Рік тому +1

      @@antiangelofmusic You are confusing the "Electronic Spark Control" with "Electronic Fuel Injection". The EFI was exclusive to the Imperial, but apparently was so problematic that Chrysler offered a carburetor conversion kit as a remedy. As I understand it, that conversion involved replacing the entire fuel system (including the gas tank) and the instrument cluster.

    This car was definately repainted. The Chrysler emblem on the front driver's headlight door is incorrect. In 1979 the Chrysler emblem was in block lettering. That emblem is from an earlier 1970's Chrysler full size but not correct for this year car. It's a real shame that someone put an aftermarket radio in that car. The original Chrysler radio would make the car perfect.

  • @ayryz1

    Like a Cadillac? Absolutely not! I've owned both from 1979 and the Chrysler was quite a bit better driving car. The seats were also more comfortable and it easily out-handled the Cadillac. It wasn't built to as high quality standards as the Cadillac but still very good for the day. The A/C was also superior in the Chrysler, Much colder and more effective faster and more adjustable controls. The 1980 Chrysler I also owned handled even better, it had the Open Road handling package.
