Yessss I’m so glad to see you test this cause I’ve been thinking about it for my 10ii
They r definitely worth it! 👍
Do it my boy is running it on his 10 2 it's rad super quiet
Keep in mind that timing belts don't need to be tight. you'll be surprised at how loose they can be and still work perfectly.
I tried it loose, it skipped way too easily.
I love how quiet that is. I’d love one quiet rig for when I go hiking in state parks. Otherwise I like the motor noise. Helps you know how much power you’re putting into it.
I love how quite it is also!! Love being able to hear the tires chew on the rocks!! Get demo on the belt drive system
I'm still waiting for mine in the post . I want to set it up with the Fusion for super quiet driving on a SCX10.2
I have belt drives on both my rigs. I can tell you I run them a lot looser than you have it in this video. The belt does eat more battery, but running it looser helps. Also high speed runs heat up the belt.
I'd like to see how it'll run on your gen 8 with an axe combo, just to see how much more quiet it'll be.
Im running one of these on my ifs swapped sandscorcher bodied capra (built for speed) and it works excellent, very quiet, geared perfect for a quicker rig, and also seems to help absorb shock and prevent broken parts.
I also think you have the belt pretty tight. Loosen it up a little bit. You can also get the different sized pulleys to get it closer to the original ratio.
literally just installed mine on my Mav scout, the scout is so dang low geared stock anyway so it wasn;t too bad on it. I have a huge whine coming from the huge spur gear of the scout, and now that i put the belt on, its so dang quiet which i like. Torque seems to still be there so it wasn;t so bad on my rig, i actually really like how quiet it is.. You are right, it does gear it up a bit more due to the smaller size of the belt "spur"
great vid though dude! (2 years later, still getting responses hahah)
Interesting on a crawler, super quiet 💪🏾💯
Belts are 1 step forward and 2 steps back for crawlers. You get a quieter setup but at the expenses of efficiency, durability and compatibility. It was also interesting how it reacted on your bench testing. You could see the chassis torque twisting back and forth much more for some reason.
Great test, very much appreciated. I love a quiet truck and was very curious how much quieter it'd be, and it sounds great.
Also those clutch gearboxes being quite unpopular in comparison to planetary front mounted and all those divorced transmission types, well they have one major advantage of being able to run a belt.
I put 1 of these on my umg10 6x6. It was beyond quiet! 👍
U can hear everything EXCEPT for the spur/pinion gear noise.
Thanks for testing. Its awesome how quite ist is.
I'd never seen a belt drive like that on an RC. I wonder what the best use for it would be. Great video!
WE used to race belt drives on the g1 optima mids, & on the dominators back in the mid 80's.
One of my friends has a Vanquish rig, with an Axe 2300KV in it and runs this set up. The original set up used a metal spur and pinion and the noise off of it was excessive when trailing at speed. Plenty of motor and with it's portals it was already very low geared and could have done with being geared up a little like this seems to do.
I installed one on my redcat gen 7 with scx10ii axles and traxxas vxl3s brushed system 21t motor i found that the belt has to be loose on the pully (pinion) gear i go in mud and water it works flawlessly for me i love it
Unbelievable torque it seems! Great silent video!
You should try the quiet revolver v2 esc with this set-up, curious how even more quiet it would be !!!
Another great video, this belt drive system performs very well.
what are the orange bands on pullies for? Got out of crawling for a minute never seen that before.
That’s the DSM integrated recovery kit, it’s like a bungee cord winch. Works really good.
You should try the MechaPlus belt drive, gives you a lot more reduction.
Great job on producing Awesome video's and information for the enthusiasts! Would be interesting to figure out what the difference in motor turns or KV would be required to compensate for the change from the gears to belt/pulley ratio. Do you think a 27t to 35t would be enough, or would it be more extreme like a 55t?
Thanks for demoing this for us I was wondering about it
Looking for this belt a system. Is there replacement belts available
I bought the same belt kit for mine. I'm running 3s battery, 40 turn 4wd motor, and the stock motor gear "spur gear?". And mine is closer to 10lbs
Something about that super light that just does it for me.
Hello. I put this kit on my axial and it is too weak now, the engine is 55t but it warms up quickly, the battery runs out quickly.
To keep it lightweight maybe a 3BROS G12 servo
A test on the gen 8 would be fantastic since it’s such a loud truck
I've always heard those called Gilmer belt drive pullies
Wow, haven’t seen a belt drive set up like that used since we ran Hyperdrives on our 1:10 buggies in the late 80s. Does this company not offer different size pulleys
Not that I know of.
@@ExocagedRC you can get different sizes of pulleys. Idk this particular company though. If you were to get this back to the original gearing it would actually perform better with the belt I'd bet. They're so much more smoother.
It's actually nice to see someone else that's been n2 this mess AS long as I have! 👍
Hi nice video big question Wich kit do you install? The 3.2mm.or the 5.0mm? Please let me know and again I like you videos 🤙
The 3.2mm is for a standard 540/550 motor shaft. 5mm would be for the large shaft like a 1/8 scale motor.
Are you installl it with clutch?
I wonder if that would work on a redcats gen 7 pro/sports
It’s definitely whisper quite! I wonder if that would take the high pitch noise out of one of your others? It’s definitely cool. At first I thought it was like a cvt drive. But it’s very cool none the less.
I am building an element with all brassed out axles with the Axe 2100 kv setup I wonder how the belt setup would work
Don’t do it.
I am still working on what pinion to go with on this
I will be running a Hot racing 87t 48p spur I have never ran a brushless motor before on my crawlers so I don’t know how to adjust for this 2100kv I hope to get a little speed when I need it but still be able to do a good crawl
Can you please measure the outside diameter of that spur gear? Thanks!
It’s long gone. Sorry.
What are those orange things running horizontally to the frame??
That’s the DSM OFFROAD integrated recovery kit
2.2 fling king on the bomber!!! That would be awesome!!
If it were geared a bit different I believe it would be really nice on the trail. Maybe a puller pro or something like that.
Can definitely see more torque twist in the chassis when you had it on the bench. Sounds nice though.
This belt drive I found to small ..but the othere one on the market that bolts to the slipper clutch is alot bigger and better gearing
My thoughts on it but im new to this hobby anyway i think its better because the gears wont chip and brake the teath
I could see this being good for a basher more than crawler it seems like it would be good as an overload clutch
Is there a link you can share for a gen8 carbon chassis?
Did yours eat up battery like crazy? That's why I quit running mine
Great information 👍
What motor you use bro?🙏
Holmes puller 400 13t
great info, like the look of the truck
Am i missing something? Where's the link for the belt system?
Do you really want one of these?
Really interesting and valuable !!
I agree with your conclusions and add these:
- belt is more exposed to moisture and degrade
- add stress to spur and pinion axle
- a bit of elastic may give more traction (I compare to motor bike where chain is really better than direct drive shaft with cardan joint
Super quiet. I like it.
What 2.2 tires would you recommend for a gen8 for a crawler course where tires get muddy. Thanks !
Swampers or deepwoods
Don't like belt drive, but it breaks down, like a real truck, hopefully 🤔 you can use revolver V2 it's more sound of silence, and competition wise too.🤨🧙👍🏗️☕
i have to real honest ive have the same kit on my stock injora rc buggy with 2s for 2 weeks . 1/10 Electric Touring Car have been using them for years no problem . so if the belt is to tight then motor will get hot . its cogged so it needs al most zero tension . even my gas power oval car is belt drive
I almost grabbed one with my order when I seen heat in the reviews I said NOPE lol.
Sounds good for a trail truck
this would be amazing for my Crapra.... so much gear noise... Why does it need all metal gears when my erevo 2.0 vxl does just fine with over 3000 watts on my tpperformance motor on plastic gears? Heck, I grenaded one of it's huge diffs without damaging the plastic spur gear.
I took mine back off. Geared to high. Definitely quieter
Belt drive
pros: quiet and smooth
cons:not suitable crawling in water
I'm not a fan of these at all
These things kill motor bushings in no time at all (most brushed motors), even my 3d printer came with a similar setup for the extruder, i quickly replaced it with herringbone gears.
Man it's night and day as far as sound but I don't care about sound id keep the gears
Dang, that the 5:1 I'm running was low. Haha. However, I know I'll get some hate for this, but I love a two speed transmission. Lol. You can gear extra low then. Have to rewind now because I've been typing and not watching.
Traxxas has the best 2-speed out there. 1st is tight and low. 2nd is awesome. LoL
@@ExocagedRC who doesn't like 'em tight. 😉
So quite! Ribbed belts need hardly any tension at all , us should be able to move the it’s own thickness with hardly a any effort , like half an oz.
I do like the noise reduction. Might be worth it just for videos. 👍🏽🐒🇺🇸
Drive pulley and driven pulley
Wheres the link to Belt Drive? don't see it
You want one of these?
The sound of silence
Quite but seems it will cause more trouble than what it's worth.
What’s the bungee for
To make people ask questions.
@@Blueknight1960
It’s your winch right.
I seen another similar used as winch.
I may do the same if it works good as winch rope
@@rcsendandblast1579 Honestly, I have no idea what the bungee is for. I was just being a smartass.
mmmmm...maybe in terms of performances gears are better but it was sooooo gorgeous to watch how a belt works...definetly much more realistic amd challenging❤️❤️❤️luv that!!!!ty
I’ve been wondering how that works
For as great as it worked and god it was quiet dont they sell the correct size belt pinion you could purchase so you can use it properly
Superlite is now Superquiet
Lower turn motor woodwork
With a belt it would be a pulley
I think he should’ve done more research on belt drives before he made this video…. I’ve been running them for years and.. the lack of information said here is real!! I would tell what all is wrong with this video but don’t have time. Anyway love all your other videos and watch you regularly but this video needs work.
This belt drive was horrible.
@@ExocagedRC in most set ups I will agree with you most of the time it’s a personal preference I have it on my scxiii with the hobby wing axe and it is super smooth. It took me almost 5 months it get it setup right but I won’t put it on anything else.
@@ExocagedRC also I had a belt drive on an hobby wing motor for almost 2 years and motor bearings where fine when I took it off.
@@benjaminsunderland2336 hey man, i have the fusion, looking to get this belt drive, how would you set it up?
Belt drive?..... Noooooooooooo!!
🤦
Yep it's bulletproof! As long as u use the cover!
The belt drive is overrated. I have one for the Xmaxx and it's just trash to me...
There's THE reason. It's on a traxxas. Gotta have something good to begin with. 😁
Rc ASMR lol
It’s a whole lot quitter!!
Only a 500 mah? I run a 8000😂
13:43 I love that. Do you love me? 😍💋 💝💖❤️
The vid is only 12:48 😂🤣 do you love me?
