Hi mate, I'm setting up midi guitar 2 with ableton, but I'm still having some trouble using it as a stand alone midi device. So as well as using guitar, I am also using my vocals through a microphone (sm7b) to make midi instrument sounds, and it works perfectly! This plug-in is sweet for it and I love being able to sing a synth. As a plug-in in ableton, everything works perfectly fine, but I can only record as audio via an audio track. To make midi tracks, I followed your video, have midiguitar2 open as a stand alone plugin and even went into the interface settings for it and set the output to my focusrite USB MIDI. I have virtual instruments set up and everything is ready to go, midiguitar2 has signal coming in, but I'm still not getting any midi signal in ableton from it. Please help, I feel like there has to be a step somewhere that I have missed. Could you give me step by step instructions on how to set it up with your DAW? Thank you and love the video. very informative.
Hi, I will do what I can to help. I know they have a video guide for ableton on thier website. I think with ableton you have to use as a plugin on your audio track with your guitar, then send that midi from that track to a midi track that has the vst you want to trigger on. I can not use it as a plugin inside pro tools so I have to use it like I have in this video. Within the pro tools midi options I have it set up as a midi input device, like I would with any midi triggering. I DI my guitar into my interfance, open pro tools. Create a insturment track with the vst i want to trigger, make sure the midi channel is on all/omni. Open midi guitar to outside of pro tools, set the input in MG to my interfaces input and the output to my interfaces audio output. I then record arm the instrument track within pro tools and when I play my guitar the vst on that track is triggered. I then fine tune my settings to stop double triggering
Thanks for the video. However, I need some help getting Origin playing MIDI notes to another track to trigger that track's VI. I assume that's what you were doing in the video. My DAW is PT2020 and I am using Blue Cat Axiom as my "wrapper" to run Origin's VST. Thanks in advance.
Sorry not sure exactly what you mean, I just followed the instructions supplied with the program. I'm not using blue cat or anything like. I have midi guitat set up as a midi input with PT same as you would a midi keyboard. I have midi guitar open outside of my door as a standalone programe and then record arm the insturment track I want to trigger with in pro tools, making sure that in my midi devices the midi input is Origin mdi guitar
Sorry, I don't know anything about fruity loops you'd have to contact their customer support. I had to add it as a midi input device to get it to work in pro tools
Can you give some tips on how to avoid spurious notes? So far I have noticed using a string damper and using thicker strings for extra tension helps but I still get lots of false notes.
Javier Aldan practicing with it, you have to adjust your playing style and play ina. Slightly un guitar like way sometimes. Playing with the settings mentioned in the video, different vsts will like different settings better so just because it’s with one vst, doesn’t mean it will be with the next one you use
I went to the website and clicked the download link. A setup installer was downloaded, I clicked icon and I chose a destination to download to. Then filled in the questions and clicked next. Now I have an download error notice and don't know what to do now.
Jose Herrera your best bet is going to be to contact their support, I can’t really offer any technical support like that apart from trying to download an reinstall after you’ve cleared all the files you originally downloaded
if someone on earth tried to use it with for actually record a vsti Guitar, with fast strumming, fast attack? You know, recording a progression chords like we usually do as a guitar player...
It always sounds so perfect with all these users on UA-cam. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but it sounds like dog to me. The sound bounces back and forth like a ping pong ball or I don't hear anything at all. And when I want to play a sound from my own hard drive, be it from Kontakt or BBC Spitfire or Opus, I hear ... nothing. The program would be a dream if it would work.
It takes a lot of time to dial in the settings. Also it's a simple thing but is something that took me a while to do, if you're trying to write melodies or lead parts. always change it to monophonic mode. You get such a better response and tracking also if you play in a guitary way with slides and stuff like that, it is less punishing with the bouncy notes. With some of it you do have to play your guitar in a very un guitar like way. Think about how a piano plays notes instead of a guitar.
The basic stand alone thing is free with annoying reminders where it interferes. The "Midi guitar rig" is $9 in app purchase, with no interruption (so you can still mic the guitar on another device) .... "MIDI output" to use in a DAW is $19 and "Audio Unti Hosting" is $9.99. So...$40 i think, not sure its a little confusing.
I have been playing with MG2 for a while. I like the concept, but I am really struggling to get this to track accurately. For some reason it just seems to have a mind of its own 90% of the time and just blurts out random high pitched notes which I didn't play. I have no idea how or why, but it just seems to track everything ot shouldn't, however doesn't track the things it should accurately either.
It definitely takes a lot of fine tuning, and you do have to watch your playing. I had a similar problem initially can’t quite remember how I fixed it but it was basically just tweaking my settings until it went away. I’ve found it works better with some guitars than others, and switching vst can mean you need to change settings in MG2. As each VST will respond slightly differently. Using the noise gate in MG2 is very useful and balancing that with tweaking other parameter. Without knowing your exact set up and how you’re using it I can’t offer much else.
@@acoombesmusic My setup is basically my guitar (encore blaster with hot rail bridge pickup) going into my interface and that goes into my macbook pro and into Logic pro where the dry signal is sent to a separate audio bus running the plugin version of MG2 (I've tried different setups, such as putting MG2 on my main audio track, but that made no difference). Mostly I am trying to get MG2 to trigger Spitfire Audio's BBC Symphony Orchestra, and basically my idea is to play some thrash/metal riffs with the orchestra accompanying them, so they sound fuller and darker. The cool thing with MG2 is that they have the transpose and harmonise options so I can make the same guitar play in the different ranges of the different instruments that the orchestra has to offer. Mostly it's Strings, Brass and Woodwinds and occasionally I also use a pipe organ from Spitfire Labs. Either way, everything I try it with has a very sloppy and and inaccurate triggering from MG2. I am kind of torn between getting the full version of this app or giving up on it and sticking exclusively to my Mel9, which tracks much better but oy offers the 9 sounds and bas pretty crappy brass sounds.
@@AnkothOfficial I’ve always had the best results not using MG2 in my daw but as a program that runs outside of my daw and is set up as a midi input device. I’ve used it with spitfire plugins and always got decent results. Sometimes noisy pickups or very high output ones are over sensitive with MG2 so you have to dial in your settings a bit different with the noise fate and sensitivity settings in MG2
