    I hope people realize the opportunity here. Having come from the Roland G-707 G 700 days up to the GK3 / GR-55, AXON 100/Triple Play etc this is a major giant leap in accessibility (financial) and convenience on top of tracking improvements and all without hexaphonic pickups!!! I'm more than glad to have purchased MG to encourage development and reward such dedication to making this possible. I thank you and congratulate you, developers, for this achievement! Very cool times in guitar midi!!! Buy it now!

      Thank you. All in good time! I remodeled my studio the other day. Mostly a new Studio desk so that I can get my Kawai VPC 1 out of the way. But another thing: I just watched a four-part series on Norwegian jazz. About "fire store" (Andersen, Christensen, Garbarek och Rypdal) , and also Karin Krog and onward. This was REALLY good. I guess you have seen it already, but it just came out on Swedish Television, so I binged it in a day: www.nrk.no/presse/programomtaler/ny-nrk-serie-om-det-norske-jazzeventyret-1.16766604

      @@lofileif That's really cool. I haven't seen it. Maybe I'll have to give it a look. Very good jazz musicians. Karin Krogh too, even though I have a childhood memory of her singing the most manicly upbeat and shrill and terrible version of the jazz standard "When you smile" in a show on NRK. It was horrid. I guess I must have been about eight years old at the time, but that experience stuck with me so bad that it's just during the last ten years I have been able to listen to her without having it destroyed by at the same time hearing that one in my head. ;-) Today I wonder if she might have been on speed at that time, or something. Congratulations on your remodeling and new studio desk. So now you have the Kawai in a keyboard drawer/retractable shelf, or something like that? 🙂

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  24 дні тому +1

      @@hjvarfjell Well, this series was well made and guided me through a richer Norwegian Jazz scene than I would have dared hope for. Karin and her connection to John Surman, Nils-Petter Molvaer, Eivind Aarset, and the George Russell story. Most interesting. Never mind your previous "bad experience" ( you can skip the first chapter if you must, but I found it all very educational). And yes I have the keyboard on a desk that neatly tucks away, so I can start using my other controllers too finally. I have a Seaboard, and a Sensel Morph and a couple of other controllers that I haven't been able to find room for before.

    • @hjvarfjell
      @hjvarfjell 24 дні тому

      @@lofileif Oh, I think I'll manage listening to Karin these days. She's a very good singer and she's been working with several of other great jazz musicians. 😊 Did the series also cover Radka Toneff? She's one of my favorites, and we lost her way too early. Depression is a bitch. Oh, well. I was aware that you had the Seaboard. I've seen it in the background in a few of your videos. Too bad the Morph is discontinued. It looked interesting. Must be good to be able to have them out and use them for more extended periods of time, without having to clear them away every time.

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  24 дні тому +1

      @hjvarfjell It did indeed mention Radka. I knew of her work with Steve Dobrogosz but I never knew she was Norweigan.
      And yes, the Sensel Morph really brought some stuff to the table that was pretty unique. I love to split it into a three note plate and work with multiple fingers for the same tone initially, but to microtonally slide back and forth. It gives me another way of working with tension and release, other than harmonic vehicles that is.
      But there are a few others that can make similar things, like the Haken continuum. But in a completely different price range. 🫣

    Can't wait for this to fully release. Just discovered the world of MIDI guitar and realllllly want it to be better than it is. Tried a few Jamstiks and apparently they don't know how to manufacture a guitar, returned them all, then picked up a Fishman Tripleplay and I'm finding the software end of that disappointing (at least, as long as I can't find a way to compress the velocity range, which so far I haven't).

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  Місяць тому

      Yes, the MIDI guitar dynamics. I am not happy with that part either. But hopefully, those days are gone with MG3. I can use my favorite guitar an retain the full dynamic span for almost any virtual instrument or synth. Now it is just up to me to communicate this newfound knowledge to the rest of the world. 😬 I am hoping for a "word of mouth" movement to help spread the message. 🤗

    • @bosneb
      @bosneb Місяць тому

      @@sepic5407 Yeah, the one thing I liked on the Jamstik was I could just set the min velocity to like 50+. This really helped it pick up hammer on's and pull off's, and it just compressed the dynamic range between 50-127. On the Fishman, so far it just seems to have velocity gains, so I can just boost the input so it sees light playing as 50+, but then most of my playing is just blasting at the top end, everything coming in 127, almost nothing in between.

    In audio settings I am only given the option of single threading or multithreading , and your video chose auto-threading , which should I choose ? Many thanks and apologies if you've already answered this in the many comments
    My next step is ipad midiguitar 3 ( when it drops) for live playing in my band, using the wifi portable setup you showed previously , Irig HD2,midimitr, UHost , powerbank etc
    my ipad is new and doesn't have the 3.5mm audio out jack , do you have a recommended USBC-C hub to provide an audio out at the same time as the USB-C in?
    Kindest regards and thanks again!

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  14 днів тому +1

      Autothreading is a feature coming with the next version of the beta, so you’ll just have wait a little. Use single if it isn’t struggling. If you hear obvious crackling you can go to multithreading, but that might mean slightly more latency.
      I am not sure my previous setup for the iPad is going to be the best with MG3. I will most likely have to buy a new iPad (the one one I used for MG2 is way too old) and then I might be able to come with specific recommendations, but sure, I will most likely need some sort of USB hub to at least use both an audio interface and the Uhost. But let me get back on that when it is time? 🤝👍

    • @lofileif
      @lofileif  21 день тому

      Well, it depends a little on what DAW you are using, but generally you open MIDI Guitar 3 as an AUDIO Fx on an AUDIO track in your DAW, where the conversion to MIDI takes place. Then this is forwarded to a MIDI track either directly (if you are using a VST plugin) or by picking it up together with your other controllers (standard way for the AU version to work). • @lofileif

      Of course, you can use recorded input to trigger virtual instruments in or after MIDI Guitar 3. But then the traditional way is to record your guitar Audio on the same AUDIO track (in your DAW) that you open the MIDI Guitar 3 plugin on. MIDI Guitar 3 is an Audio effect that creates MIDI. getting that MIDI to a MIDI track looks a bit different for each DAW though. Basically I followed everything you said in the video, but no sound ever comes out (my sound card works fine). As an additional thing I have also tried assigning sounds from Native Instruments installed on my computer by first doing the Plug in Settings scan and then clicking on Instruments but nothing happens and no Native Instruments screen appears for me to choose sounds. Now, what does it say when you go into settings/Audio devices? Are you using the correct channel for your guitar? Is anything showing in the MIDI Guitar tracker interface (beams of colored light corresponding to your note triggering.)? Bitwig unfortunately doesn't work with MPE generated from an Audio track yet. As they say themselves:
      "The way MPE works in Bitwig Studio is that MPE from a midi controller gets translated to Bitwig’s per note expressions, and those are being recorded in clips and used to play the internal Bitwig instruments. When playing back recorded notes with note expressions to VSTs, it converts it back to Midi MPE before sending it to the VSTs.
      But if you generate MPE Midi within a device chain and then send it directly to our internal devices, there is no translation to the note expressions and the devices are currently not completely optimised to receive pure MPE Midi date instead of note expressions. This is something we might improve on in the future."
      This is sad since I like the basic setup a lot.
