For anyone unfamiliar with The Tommy Tiernan Show, the unique twist is that neither Tommy nor the audience knows who the guest will be until they walk on stage. This makes the interviews completely improvised, leading to spontaneous and often deeply authentic conversations. It’s a refreshing take on the typical chat show format!
It was a brilliant and insightful interview into Petes life years ago and now. He still struggles with opening up about certain things but when it comes to his kids I get it. Really liked this interview.
This man is a Brilliant tragic genius of Music, Poetry , Art and prose !!!! This guy only needs an acoustic guitar and belt out bangers and savers every day!!! This song was brilliant…. Etc ( Salome, Flags of Old regime, hired gun , etc ) and many others !!! Thanks 22 for good one!! 👍🏽
thing is though, i know a few heroin addicts who quit heoin and quite quickly became alcoholics. Dan Treacy from the Television Personalities , who I a actually formed a weird friendship with, he even featured on our album was a huge heroin addict and quit and became a massive alcoholic, so it's really not just like having a packet of crisps. Dan is pretty much brain dead now due to an booze induced incidednt. I would be worried at the amount he's probably drinking because it really is so easy to replace one addiction with another. I quit drinking a few years ago and then got addicted to benzos and sleeping pills without really realising it was happening. II have a feeling he hasn't knocked the heroin on the head completely to be honest, he's lost weight since he was really really fat a couple of years ago and there always seemed to be a direct Correlation between his weight and how clean he was. I dunno, maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. He's certainly very coherant here, but I dunno how clean he is to be honest. Tommy Tiernan is a really cool guy though.
He's diabetic. So he's either losing the weight due to diabetes or is on one of the weightloss GLP shots or metformin which were actually made for diabetes. However, I agree that he's not off the hard stuff. There's some rumors echoing of him smoking the "pipe" on tour which I assume is crack, but he's def off the heroine. That being said, he's been with his current wife for ten years so not sure how much she actually had to do with him getting clean. If anything she accepted him that way for almost a decade and therefore enabled it. I think addicts get clean when it's their time and lock down had a lot to do with it.
Quick aside: singing Tennyson poems to my Cretan mates and N reckons we could make more money from the local clergy than the kids made singing Christmas carols last month.
I found this interview to be frustrating and boring. Peter is a pot of gold if you get him started on his favourite writers and poets. Just tonight, I’ve read the Happy Prince and the Selfish Giant introduced to me by reading old Doherty interviews. These are brilliant and uplifting stories by Oscar Wilde. He’s so much more than an addict. Get him talking about his romantic ideas and the great writers and he can enrich your life. I was listening to early Stevie Wonder after Peter referenced them in an interview - absolutely magical albums. No more boring therapy sessions please. Save it for behind closed doors. Have him open up his big heart, don’t drag him down. So serious and boring. Peter is a light hearted clown and a deep romantic.
Yeah, you’re right. I said many times about pat Kenny’s interview that it makes clear the media obsession with the destructive nature of people. It also points out though that people, for the most part, don’t know how to deal with the creative aspect. With Pete or …mostly anyone else. I really like it when he discusses song writing, literature or his take on things …and the slower and more introspective, the better it is. Years ago I wanted him to write a ‘Dog Man Star’ …today he might be capable of something like Wally page’s ‘smoke and strong whiskey’? I like it when he falls backwards through both. He can.
HARD AGREE. We miss the ragtag romantic that led people toward literary indulgences and wild words. I remember he said about Kate Moss - I love her bones - and that stuck with me forever. He doesn't talk that way about love anymore, it's now more companionship.
Great interview, I've been skipping past some of the recent ones as they were getting a bit boring pleased I saw it on here 👍 If you ever want to interview me (self proclaimed biggest libs superfan 😂) I can show you the biggest Libertines/Peter memorabilia collection whilst also justify collecting it all to my wife 👍🤣
Tiernan over complicates his questions as a means to sound profound, deep and smart. I don't think it adds to the interviewee's experience. "What do you owe your talent?" Is an odd question and is not immediately understood (by me anyway) and Doherty's response at least in the edit has no relation to the question posed. No hate, just my opinion. Peace and love.
About the absent father question: he started to say "ye...", but thought better of it. I personally believe that was his honest answer and he realised it didnt sound good so changed his answer. Possibly a selfish narcissist rather than the sensitive, empathetic creative he is thought it be

It was a brilliant interview. It's just good to see how far he has come along with his addiction battles and how his wife and kid keep him grounded.
He needs this drama as the music is forgettable in fact anything past 2000 is
Mate, have you listened to his appearance on Radio 4s Young Again with Kirsty Young? Thats a real therapy session, Great listen!
Will give it a blast!
it was so good, his best interview in a long time IMO
lol love your commentary, hope you get peter someday on
That’s a really good song

This was a great interview but also check out the one he gave the BBC show Young Again. Really brilliant.
Love the fact Pete & Shane were pals.

Maybe you'll be able to interview Peter at some point :) I know you've got something brewing.

It’s good the humming bits
He needs to take Mark Renton’s advice about getting addicted to healthy things.
Irvine Welsh was actually the guest on after Doherty in this episode and he talked about exactly that.
Tommy Robinson I thought the title was his reaction! Lol
Princess Puffer, Desolation Row and Victorian Britain - that’s the British army for you. Or Dickens.
Shovelling the bricks is a better phrase than the Dylan line.
I actually nicked that from Doherty when he talked about being kicked out the libertines for top of the pops lol

Very well said.

What, you don’t like listening to long hair bloc party guy talk every day ??? 😂🤮😴
@libertard6101 🤣 I meant Peter's boring interviews 😝
Song sounds like back from the dead yes about to w rite that. Shaken and with drawn session s .

Yeah on reflection the thing about the 3 year old is v odd. Suppose it's a tall order with zero prep

he's both and its situational I think
Genuine question. Did anyone else think "Are you dying?" was a terrible question?
“The woods decay, the woods decay and fall
The vapours weep their burthen to the ground…cruel immortality,” Tennyson.
