I just absolutely loved this episode. It’s crazy to me when I listen to someone who is Irish and how much it speaks to the Irish within myself. I grew up in Arizona in a predominantly Mexican area and though I am also Latino on my dad’s side, I always felt something was missing. The more as an adult I have interacted with Irish culture, the more I feel seen and I come to better understand myself. They say that DNA can store memories and man, it feels real to me. There is just so much of a sense I get from myself that can just remember what it is to be Irish and when I listen to a podcast like this it just re-enforces that what I feel is true and that some of my quirks are literally from the other side of my genetics. ❤
I love all the guests in one way or another but I really love when a comedian's brain is at work. Tommy at his resting state is locked in. I bet it is torture at times but homie just sat for an hour an said some very profound shit off the dome while also being fairly hopeful at the baseline. Good episode.
"Who says truth can be boiled down to a sentence?" I love that. Reminds me of this Ram Dass quote that changed the way I see the world forever. He said "You don't communicate your words, you communicate your being". Your concsiousness bleeds through the words. Food for thought.
I really do appreciate the time and energy that goes into creating and capturing these interviews. Incredible episode. The Irish Synergy is emanating through my screen. #4TheAlgo
You can’t fight off the shackles….yeah. At a personal and cultural level, I totally relate to that as an Iranian. Coming back to Iran give been surprised how psychologically painful it has been as there are reminders everywhere of what could have been vs what is. I regret coming back but I can’t easily leave cause coincidentally of the trauma itself (my personal mental health)
The Vatican had a deep effect on me, actually much of the historic sights all across Italy and Europe had a deep and lasting affect on my world view. I am mostly not ‘religious’, however I’ve found community at different difficult times in my life thru a Christian church. I always had questions about the stories, never understood the cognitive dissonance. That being said, I do think faith can be a powerful tool. Looking back on my travels, I think the realization of how old our stories are, how many people have come and gone-so few leaving their mark on our world… all of that suffering. Also, all of the beauty. The history and art and stories… it’s a bit overwhelming. Weirdly, I am more comfortable sitting on a beach contemplating grains of sand in our universe. Maybe that’s beyond humanity? Hmmm…🤦🏽♀️
I love this conversation. I have a thought about comedians getting worse as they get more popular. Metallica's first 5 albums are all amazing. If they stopped there no one would ever say they got worse. They continued to evolve and to be honest it's not as good as it was. It's still better than 75% of other music but it 50% as good as they were. That's still a great career. I think if a huge comedian is the GOAT and makes a bunch of good specials and a landmark sketch show and then doesn't produce at their own elite level anymore does that mean they've gotten worse or that their average has just corrected to a more natural state? Can anyone name any of the last 6 Rolling Stones Albums? I don't think it's crowd size as much as, even the best, find their average whether its up and down or if the front half of the career is heavily weighted. I saw Carlin's last tour... He was the GOAT for a long time.
Listening to the guilt section where Irish people are supposedly the great victims of all time with generational trauma even down to the banking (cause banks don’t run shit for everyone, just the Irish apparently) and then he goes to say another group acts persecuted lol
That even though he could at times ne be like Zeus-almighty, Athena-sage wisdom, Poseidon- earthquake or stormy, he's still a parent and still has to pretend that he didn't just walk in on his son masturbating and still has to wipe the shite off their arse when they're a baby.
Have to say as an American born daughter of South American immigrants … all this translates to that continent as well; Colonialism and what survives that is free 🥲
Tommy is a national treasure. Great to see him getting well deserved exposure in the States

Tommy Tiernan has been one of the best Irish comedians for 30+ years. Good to see him do some podcasts in the US.
Let’s be honest, the bar in Ireland is pretty low
@@mageeknailmahs669left the immersion on 🤣🤣🤣🤣😐🔫

He's so right about those night thoughts. Great show.
Such a beautiful conversation.
Thanks for another one Neal.
That was amazing. Felt like what therapy may feel like with a really smart, grounded person.
Really great episode. Tommy is funny and thoughtful. Finally, Garry Shandling may have been an actual angel on earth.
Another great therapy session Neil.
Thanks 😂
What a feckin' good way to think about the meaning of life
Tommy is an awesome human. ❤

Don't know this dude but I love comics and I love the Irish. Gonna support this mug!
Shame is usually put on you. Possibly from parents or peers. Also, connected to mental health.
Does he also play the put upon dad from Derry Girls?
Ah he does aye
"At some point, you have to surrender to the way you're wired and go with the flow of it." I love me some clowns y'all!

Quite a thinker and interesting takes....
I was only just thinking he’d be the perfect guest! Delighted!
_"Flare on,"_ indeed.
Can anyone share a link to the Gary Shandling set they were referring to?
Neil finally rocking men’s eyewear! 👓 thank you that makes it easier to recommend your podcast

Wow neal Brennan is realy winning me over by not saying anything
It’s the early gang
What did you mean when you said he was like a Greek God of a parent.
