    If I gotta work at 5 am on Monday, at least I get to watch Pete swatch while I’m working. QOR have been my fav watercolors for about 3 years now.

      I'm glad you enjoyed this! I have never enjoyed experimenting with a watercolor as much I have with these. I bought a few more since I recorded this and I don't really care if I pick the 14 for my palette I just want more. 😂

    You spoke to my soul when you said that sometimes just swatching and laying down colors is more fun than creating art. QoR were the first professional grade watercolors I ever tried, and they will always have a special place in my heart.

    I had to research what “staining” was because I am fairly new to watercolor. For those who are newbies like me, staining is referring to how easily it can be lifted. 1 is easy and 4 means the paper will be stained and lifting the color after the fact will not work as well. Thanks for prompting a quick lesson for me Pete! 😉 Also, I love the blues and greens in this set based on your swatches. Especially the turquoise and teal colors.

      Someone else had a similar question in a previous video so next week's video will have a full explanation of all the terms and when they are important to know based on application. Thank you for helping others here. 👍🏻 I'm crazy about these paints. They are quickly becoming one of my favorites.

    Another great video, and like godzandheros said, I had to watch it the minute I saw it was available (6:30AM my time). I’ve tried to avoid the sirene call of Qor. Now you’ve made that very hard to do.
    But here’s an idea: Qor makes a watercolor medium. Is it Aguazol? Can it be mixed into other watercolors to create the same effect?
    Also I’d love to see you do a color mixing video. You mentioned several ways you mix colors. It would be fun to see if colors can be made instead of bought.
    Lastly: I notice a lot of people on UA-cam make palettes based on brand. Is this to make it easier later to make videos showcasing a certain brand? When I make my palettes I never go by brand. I want to open a palette and use it, not have a bunch of open palettes on my desk. Why do you do go by brand?

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  8 місяців тому +2

      I only go by brand because of my OCD. I have an impulsive need to keep similar things together instead of separating them and having them in different places. When they aren't then I feel disorganized which stops me from being productive. I don't know why everyone else does it. Yes, you can buy their synthetic ox gall which will help other paints flow easier. I'm not sure why they sell both under the different names. Maybe the Aquazol can also be used as a binder for people who make their own paints and the ox gall is only the flowing medium. Glad you enjoyed the video. 🙂

    I love the PR206 too. It used to be known as madder brown Inn W&N. It's gorgeous. It is being replaced by the preylene pigment as it disappears. I've got a few extra tubes to keep me going. You can still find it among some other artists paint manufacturers, and I think DSmith still stock it for now.

    I don't think there is anyone else that does watercolor on UA-cam that I relate more to 😂 Thank you for being you, being honest and I love your dry humor. Okay, back to the video! Oh! I also want to say that people need to take personal responsibility. I feel like a lot of people these days would rather blame others for their actions. I love swatching videos. If the video makes me want to buy new watercolors, it's not the creators fault haha it's mine. People need to just learn not to spend money they don't have, then blame others. It drives me nuts 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

      Quin Burnt Orange is one of my favorites from QoR! Well, I love Quin Burnt Orange in general. I stocked up on the Daniel Smith and QoR ones. I also stocked up on the actual pigment since I do a lot of resin/epoxy work and a lot of dioramas. I love using it (mixed with a few other pigments) to mimic rusty things or New England Autumn leaves on my dioramas.

      I love all the earthy oranges. They make me think of fall and that's my favorite time of year. The indigo is definitely my favorite indigo out of every brand. I like that it's a little more of a neutral dark rather than a warm dark like Daniel Smith. 👍🏻

    I believe Qor are 5mls in sets and 11mls in openstock. For me quality watercolour paints is ease of painting, able to glaze, layer, to some extent ability to lift, and most importantly colour intensity and vibrancy. Lightfast testing is on a 8 on my important level cause i mostly use sketchbooks, my art is cartoony so do more glazing. Qor is expensive though 😊😅

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  8 місяців тому +1

      I believe you are correct about the sizes. That's what I've found as well. These are extremely vibrant but they aren't as transparent as some other brands so I find they are more of a challenge for glazing unless I really pay attention and only use the most transparent colors. 👍🏻

    Hey Pete,enjoyed the video as always. If you get one of those white dry sponges, I think it’s by Mr. Clean, it will take that staining off of your pallet. I put all of my paints together, White Nights, Daniel Smith, etc. But, in the pallet I do segregate by brand. I have a fairly large pallet, but I also have a small travel pallet. It has my favorites of all the brands but…in the pallet they are in arranged by brand. So far as my favorite it’s White Nights, Daniel Smith, Windsor & Newton..etc,….so far. LOL.

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  8 місяців тому

      Hi Denise! I think it's my OCD. If I don't put things that are the same together I feel disorganized and it makes me less productive. But I'm trying to make myself do this because I want to use what I enjoy. That causes a bigger problem because I need to group my colors in a certain way also so I can't keep the same brands together in my palette. It's ok, I'll be fine. 😂

I have exactly 25 qor colors and using full pans they fit perfectly in the Earth 6 set tin with space for a travel brush.... I have 1 more of those tins and they fit in my travel roll nicely so im going to use it for the 25 holy grail of all brands...i have way to many colors and i cant seem to narrow it down, lol. i do agree with you
    BUT
    cheap watercolor STAYS exactly where to put them, so the tendency is to associate holbein with cheap watercolor due to its lack of dispersion.
    Holbein has very fine particles which can be moved around with some effort.
    Botanical painters like that.
    each has its own uses.

      Hello! Thank you. I tend to stay away from "artist sets" because I'm so picky about my colors and I always wish they were different then they are. However, I really like this set. They are a really nice blend of colors. They don't even list an ultramarine turquoise on their site and I can't find it in open stock on any of the sites so I'm going to have to get this set just for one 5ml tube of that color. 😂 It looks beautiful. Experience is the best teacher. I have never used watercolor paint that reacts the way this brand does but it's been a great experience and I absolutely love them. I hope you enjoy them!

    OK, last comment I swear. But hey, algorithm, right? Anyway. When it was announced that PO48 was going to be discontinued, Daniel Smith went out and bought all of it. And when I say he went out anad bought all of it, I mean he literally went out and bought ALLLLLLLLLL of the PO48. So when you write to the brand and ask about PO48 they will tell you that have enough to continue making their paints that contain PO48 for decades to come. DECADES. I still stocked up. Cuz Daniel Smith isn't really known for oil paints, do they even make them? I think I have seen them on the usual websites, but I could just be remembering wrong? So I stocked up on Windsor and Newton's Quin Gold watercolor and M Graham's Quin Rust in oil, as well as Michael Harding's Quin Gold i(in oils obviously cuz they started making watercolors after PO48 was bought up).

    That wasn't my last comment. Sorry. I sound like a crazy stalker now. Synthetic organic chemistry is a thing. Something can be synthetic AND organic if it contains carbon atoms that are not naturally occurring. As in man made. Like vitamins fall into synthetic organic chemistry because they are man made instead of us getting them through food or sunlight. We can make things in a lab that also just occur or grow naturally/organically. Hence the fact that synthetic organic things can exist. I'm that weirdo artist that also has a science degree.

    • @IllustrationsByPete
      @IllustrationsByPete  6 місяців тому

      I see, but the thing I'm using is synthetic. Even though it can occur naturally, it didn't in this case. Seems like a marketing trick. "Synthetic organic hamburger", yum! 😂

    • @amypanddirtytoo1926
      @amypanddirtytoo1926 6 місяців тому

      @@IllustrationsByPete LOL. But that's because you have the wrong impression of what synthetic and organic mean. Organic does not mean that it grew in the wild, in nature. Organic just means it is a compound that contains carbon and hydrogen. Synthetic does not mean a fake substance that does not grow in nature, it just means man made. Ergo, a synthetic organic compound just means a substance that contains carbon and hydrogen that was man made. OH! You're gonna love this: they do make lab grown burger meat! Also lab grown chicken, lab grown human skin for grafts (that has been done since the 80s !) which is actually safer and less traumatic than taking skin off another part of your body, especially if that body is extensively burned already. And the tasty synthetic organic burger meat and chicken IS IN FACT FDA approved!
